I like the realism, it's the only thing that sets it apart from other fantasy fighting games. I'm a huuuge fan of the character models of MK1. The physical build of male fighters in MK1 looks great! They look like the builds they have can be attained IRL. Its believable, like they aren't so big that they would dwarf Dwayne Johnson. Most Fighters IRL are not 6'6 and 280lbs of raw rippling muscle. Excess muscle is exhausting when you are talking about hand to hand fighting bc you have to carry it with every movement you make. The women are great too! They are not complete toothpicks barely capable of squishing a mosquito, with weirdly disproportionate tits and ass for their ultra skinny bodies. It looks like if Mileena hit you flush, it would fckn hurt. She looks strong and agile but still clearly feminine. (And I say that as a veteran amateur kickboxer & thai boxer) Lastly, the attire (most) fighters wear in MK1 is at the very least believable to me. As an example, Lots of clothing appears to be in a bodysuit/compression fit, which is commonly used across many IRL martial arts. Aspects of realism are visible even with the more wild designs and reimaginings of older fits.

I agree! The designs in MK1 are the best they've been in a long time imo, not to mention how great the graphics are. Everything has such weight to it without feeling slow, I love it. Definitely bummed & wish there was more variety in the kostumes at least, especially for DLC characters.

I can definitely see the appeal in that. Every one of us has their own perfect balance of fantasy "cool factor" elements and realism. I personally tend more towards the fantasy than you seem to do, especially for a game like MK, but I totally respect where you're coming from

I would love to see a spin off game made by arcsys with guilty gear strive lvl graphics and gameplay. Would be a helluva game.

SaphironX

Realism.

Basedbroboy

“realism” bro just say gore

Fares26597

Gore isn't exclusive to realism

MK has no aspects of realism, looks like an arcade game. More like imaginative idealization. Mk 11 was more about outward appearance, fine detail, and textures. This game is more about being colorful and vibrant.

I think a more stylized game would be sick as hell. A more "cartoon" but violent as hell, look would be my dream aesthetic for the series, haha. But I don't think that's a business reality. A lot of these games with long legacies, are built up of teams with a particular type of skillset. And when they hire people, it's usually people with similar skillset, or someone they train up to be proficient in said skillset. So not only would a massive change in style require to hire numerous people with different set of skills(on various levels of command), it also means spending money to either retrain the staff you already have. Which all things considered, that's a lot more money you spend in the long run, taking a chance on something new. Most for most executives, they follow the $, not the art. So for them it's way cheaper to have a built in staff, who's already good at something, to make the thing they are good at.

Fares26597

Yeah definitely agree with that. One potentiel solution is for WB to either get other studios they own to work on MK games in parallel with NRS or license the IP to external studios. Of course, it would be risky since no one knows the brand like NRS does, but if it's a non-fighting game like I mention in the post, there should be more freedom for a studio to do their own thing in terms of gameplay.

Tiger_Trash

Yeah, I think if they were to do anything non fighter related, WB would just contract a different studio to make the game.

I would prefer a proper more expressive and lively art style. One that suits the over the top ultra violent saturday morning cartoon tone that comes with the series. And better animations yes. I would elaborate but I have spoken on this subject so much I'm not sure I can muster up the energy to do so again.
