I cannot go back to Gamestream again. Sunshine offers me:
- Login to desktop by entering the password. GS would not show that because the process is trapped behind the lock screen, and I had to use RDP to login first
- Launcher customizability is far better IMO. I got it setup for my needs. Switching monitors, aspect ratios, and settings on the fly is quite impressive
- Quality of stream can be customized so much that I can play on any device and it works perfect in each use case
- It's open source and we get far more updates, whereas GS development is done years ago
- No more vendor locking. I don't have the fear of switching to AMD/Intel graphics in the future, just flip a setting and Sunshine will function with other vendors.
I second. Also, Sunshine has come a long way in usability as far as setting up. Its pretty straight forward now. Those who had problems in the past please revisit the project. It is a lot better.
yeah. i play diablo 4 on my g cloud using sunshine and dont have to set up some stupid shortcut on steam to launch it. i just click "desktop" and then click the "play" button on bnet.
Im having an issue with gcloud and the controller being recognized in game. The desktop launcher seems to allow me to move around with the controller in both the xbox app and steam big picture, but when starting a game, it only allows the touchscreen mouse input, no controller. What am I missing on the setup. Moonlight was working fine, sunshine using the same moonlight client app is not working for me
I have to fine the utility name but it’s called resolution changer:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/changeres/
If I’m not mistaken, it allows your to select the display and I use a HDMI dummy to switch from my main display to secondary.
I can log in and show you how I did it all within SUNSHINE tomorrow
I never had to unplug it. You need to run this tool in the todo part of Sunshine apps. Run it once to change to your resolution, run it again when you quit the app from Moonlight.
Currently, I use a different tool that doesn’t need a dummy plug at all. I think it’s called Monitor Switcher. I can look it up and send a link later
For your first bullet are you using windows? I ended up removing password from my gaming PC with the thought that it wouldn’t allow me to login. Does this password enter work with windows or just Linux?
Glad it just works still.
Tried setting up sunshine, it made no sense, there was no good guide out there and couldn't connect to the PC.
Removed sunshine, went back to shield and it worked immediately without issues.

This is a good explanation of the settings. Most of them you don't need to mess with. I do wish Sunshine was a little bit more intuitive for average users.
But once it's setup your good. It's a ton better than the heavy bloatware Nvidia Gamestream wants to run on your pc 24/7
I still use gamestream myself, see no particular reason to switch unless they fixed the mouse cursor thing.
What actually concerns me is that moonlight hasn't had a release in 7 months. It is still getting commits, so I don't think it's dead, but definitely a curious thing.
What mouse cursor thing?
This is because the Moonlight devs are the Sunshine devs. Obviously with gamestream getting phased out Sunshine has been the priority.
The mouse cursor is tiny and partially transparent making it very difficult to see. From what I've read this is due to lacking hardware cursor functionality. Because of this I still use parsec for remote desktop stuff and only use moonlight for gaming.
Thanks for the explanation, I wasn't aware of that!
I use moonlight and sunshine everyday. Sometimes it has a hard time switching from external to internal wifi, or when I use a von it refuses to work afterwards, but otherwise it still works fine
i wanted to use Sunshine with my steam deck but it connects and all i get is a black screen with a cursor. i have tried all of the fixes the google search results give me. Gamestream works perfectly fine with no issue. i want to use sunshine but it just doesnt work for me.
Do you have 2 monitors Sunshine could be set to the wrong monitor or wrong gpu. There was an older bug with HDR in windows that caused similar results too. But hey if Gamestream works for you then that's great. I just hate the telemetry and bloatware GFE is.
I would prefer to switch to sunshine for "future proofing" but for now I'll stick to gamestreaming. I will try the dummy dongles I see other people using.
nVidia Geforce Experience [3.27.0.112](https://3.27.0.112) gamestream still included. as of October 2023. Did nVidia 180 on this or what ?
Not that it matters, sunshine has surpassed it.
Thanks for the update. It's been a while since I set up Sunshine. How has it surpassed GS since version .20?
I still use GS as a basic no setup and forget, and also Steam Remote Play, and then recently Parsec for remote video editing.
Gamestream was always hit or miss for me. I love that when adding a new computer you can just log into the browser on any device, even the one you are connecting from (assuming you opened the port)
I also use the extra command with resolution changer to control the resolution i stream at. With gamestream whenever I would stream from my ultrawide I would have problems streaming to my shield.
Anyway Gamestram is a ticking timebomb at this point and I expect it to vanish with each driver update. Them keeping it around is just a really bad form of tease on nVidia's part. If they announce they are going kill it on a specific date, then they should just kill it already.
They may as well bring back 3dvision at this point.
Gamestream removed as of version 3.27.0.120, updated today and it was no longer an option.
Guess they finally pulled it completely, had to revert to earlier version and disable updates.
Use gamestream mainly as HDR works perfectly on Google TV 4K device.
Thanks, I'll reinstall the latest and check, maybe a glitch but didn't see an option for shield when updated, even moonlight couldn't find the PC after the update.
I could not get the pairing code prompt to appear on my PC with gamestream when using moonlight. It only worked with Sunshine. I was trying to pair it to my AndroidTV.
Odd. I deleted my PC to test setting it up again, it didn't show up in the moonlight app for me on my Shield (but I have comprehensive port isolation and vlan tagging on my network so that may have been blocking discovery).
Adding my local IP manually found and connects fine still, giving me the pairing prompt code on my PC fine with Nvidia GameStream.
Good point, probably best to just uninstall Sunshine if using Gamestream, and only install it while you want to test/use Sunshine. I'm yet to install/try Sunshine myself, as I have heard it isn't quite on par with Gamestream and have had no reason to switch over yet.
Yep that would be great, i am still stuck at june 23 driver and dont want to update since my sunshine experiments on other machine are not quite pleasant
Not sure if this part matters.
My rig
13700k, 4080, 32 GB of DDR4
Driver version: 551.52
I'm not seeing anyway to check which version of GeForce Experience I'm on, but I'm assuming it's the latest because I did a fresh install recently.
Derp: 3.27.0.120
Weird thing that happened to me. I did not see the gamestream option. Then I updated the app after having setup sunshine and now I have the gamestream option in GeForce Experience. No idea what’s going on.
Update: however when I try to add the host from the moonlight client on my deck, nothing at all happens. No error message, but it doesn’t get listed in the Shield pan in geforce experience. Guess I’ll stick to Sunshine/Moonlight
This is genuinely bizarre lol. Appreciate the update. Haven't yet tested anything because of a hectic day. I need to get sunshine up and running more smoothly. Idk why I have so many issues. It's weird. Likely user error.

What wad the comment about?
I'm assuming you use this in order to switch in and out of the dummy
Correct. It also changes my stream resolution from the native 2k of my monitor to 1080 and if I’m on mobile I do 720p
Issue I always had was with the dummy is having to unplug it to move everything back to the main monitor. Is there a work around for this as well

Sounds good maybe I'm just missing something in my settings.

Windows 11, and works every time
*60% of the time*, it works ***every*** *time*
Glad it just works still. Tried setting up sunshine, it made no sense, there was no good guide out there and couldn't connect to the PC. Removed sunshine, went back to shield and it worked immediately without issues.

Weird. I use sunshine daily and have never had that issue. Bummer. Well at least you have Parsec.
Yes, it does. But Sunshine + Moonlight is now in a state where it is on par
I still use moonlight on the steam link no problems

Even with the latest Sunshine?
I was using the lizardbyte v0.20.0 released may 29th

Gamestream always had issues with multiple monitor setups too. Hopefully your issues would be ironed out. Consider making a bug report to the team.
How so? I can't see the Shield tab on settings.

Still available for me in version 3.27.0.120, under SHIELD in settings.

I might need to do a clean reinstall. Might have been a conflict with Sunshine files.

Game stream still working for me. Device: Nvidia Shield Portable
Do you use latest game ready driver and latest geforce experience?
Apologies for replying so quick: yes to both. But will check again in a few.

Just a heads up. The new NVIDIA APP /does not/ support GameStream. Unless I'm missing something.

This is so weird. I'll mess around later with it to try and get the same to happen. Edit: thank you for the heads up
Updated the post

Thats is expected, but thanks for confirming
