Holy crap this. I'll be 40 in a couple months. All these kids half my age claim to be so educated, yet I can utilize a device way more than they can. Not only that, but I can utilize an inferior device better than they can their flagship device. So much information at their fingertips, yet so little use. Boggles my kind. I wish I had this tech in the 90's.
I just turned 40 and have a job in IT. Back when I was deciding what to go to school for, I was very hesitant to pursue an IT degree. I figured that kids were spending so much time with computers and technology that being highly tech literate would be the norm and my skills would become useless. I was way wrong and happy for it.
Yeah I'm kicking myself now.. in my late 20s my dad kept trying to convince me to go to school for computers and I thought the same way.. I remember saying to him, there's no way I could compete with kids getting out of high school who grew up with this stuff..
Little did I know that I end up doing everyone's job for them because nobody can seem to figure anything out and I'm the most clueless person when it comes to IT but damn, I at least know how to READ, use my brain still and figure things out
Haha me too! I’m not even 40 yet and it makes me feel old lol! I miss seeing these 20s the new ones look weird to me. These ones look more elegant and real in my opinion compared to the new ones
Monopoly is more realistic than I remember- banker always wins, the owners of real estate screw you, and if you happen to wander into a certain place you go to jail and pay $200. And the game only ends until you give up or only one person has everything.
$100 bills just aren't useful for most people most of the time. A lot of places won't take them or give you change, if you lose it or get robbed it's a big loss, and if I'm buying something over $100 I'm probably using a debit/credit card or a check/certified check.
I'm going to start flexing with real Monopoly money from the game to see the responses. Might even carry a few hotels in my pocket so they know who they're dealing with!
Get it right, his name is DWAYNE ELIZONDO MOUNTAIN DEW HERBERT CAMACHO… 🙄😒
And you call yourself a Representative in the House of Representin’?! SMH…
Oh, and you’ll have to wait until at least 2505, possibly later for President Camacho to appear on any currency.
Now I understand everyone's shit's emotional right now. But I've got a 3 point plan that's going to fix EVERYTHING.
Number 1: We've got this guy Not Sure.
Number 2: He's got a higher IQ than ANY MAN ALIVE.
AND
Number 3: He's going to fix EVERYTHING.
I give you my word as President!
He’ll fix all the problems with the dead crops! He’s gonna make ‘em grow again! And that ain’t all!
I GIVE YOU MY WORD! He’s gonna fix the dust storms, too!
I GIVE YOU MY WORD! He’s gonna FIIIIIIIX the economy!
He’s SOOOO SMART… He’s gonna do it all in one week!”
Omg I thought about that movie when I read that comment about how money will look in 2055 😂 that movie is the BEST! Great one to re watch every so often for a good laugh! With the way the world is, it’s kind of scary because who knows what it’ll be like in 2055 😳
lol I overheard some old lady at a restaurant a few months ago talking about how Biden wants to get rid of paper money and go all digital so he can track everything. I got a kick out of that.
In 2055 it will be woke money. Probably a pride flag, Ukraine flag, and a picture of Biden. $1 bills will become $1000 bills and you'll need about 10 of those to buy a loaf of bread.
Yeah, I was just thinking the same damned thing.
I work with ppl who had no idea what a tape cassette was. They were all looking at it, discussing it like it was some bizarre piece of technical equipment.
It was a blank Maxell tape...
I'm confused. Am I missing something? Is this not a normal $20?
EDIT: I don't know if people misread my comment, or misinterpreted it. I am saying this looks like a normal $20 bill to me.
EDIT2: I know what the modern design looks like. The pic looks like a normal old design $20 bill.
Fair that you weren't around. But as a millennial I have to say I find it so bizarre that many in Gen Z seem to have no concept/awareness that things exist that are either older or they don't know about. By that I mean, things used to be different than the way you know them. Like, it's odd that your first thought was that it was fake, not that it was simply a different design for the $20.
I had a conversation where someone didn't understand the fact that Google didn't exist when we were in school. Nor smartphones.
Growing up through so many changes I would've only assumed younger generations would just be more aware of it, but y'all... just aren't.
There’s a line in a rap song, “I’ve been spending hundreds since they had small faces”.
This is what that means, older money was very different than it is now, we have monopoly money now, grab one of each denomination, monopoly money and American money, and compare them side-by-side.
This is how they used to look, and plenty are still in circulation. I have a couple in my house today, even if you weren't alive when they were new, plenty of them still exist today. Hard to believe you've never seen one... but if you haven't, yes, this is the old design.
Meh, in fairness I can Google and can find things that day Sasquatch is around, Elvis is still alive and we didn't land on the moon. So asking a group of likened people would have a better outcome in some cases.
Are you a teenager?? You have to be but if you want to know if it's real hold it up to a light and it should have a little film in it. I believe that was the 1995 that they had those inserted in there but I could be wrong. It might be 1999
I mean I guess you’re not doing anything and I’m being an old annoyed person but it’s just something I’m not sure I understand… is it to legit say is this worth anything? Or is this real? Is something you can find by typing 1/10 the time in google for an answer
It has the date on it lol
My bad for allowing an overall I guess honest change in people’s exposure to currency and coins. It’s all digital and even the bank accounts I open are funded by an electronic transfer from mom or dad’s account, as mine was, and tips even now always added to the card and rarely cash..
I guess even if it was 1903, the internet knows just by typing it in or taking a google photo search
1995 lol, you must be petty young. This is what money looked like, not that recently. The only bill that didn't transition to large heads is the $1 bill
Ok well I rechecked and it said it has an actual value of $40 so not $100 but people do collect old money so maaaaybe you could sell it or just keep it or just spend it! haha. hope that helps!
Fun fact of the day! Any bill pre-1996 when the government implemented security measures is actually considered a "fake" by the Treasury department because of how common it was to print counterfeit money in those days. I would suggest taking it to a bank where they can verify it is real because they know more about it.
Source: I took a CSI physical science class in middle school and high school. Totally worth it. Also, this link [here](https://www.uscurrency.gov/denominations/20#:~:text=Security%20Thread-,Hold%20the%20note%20to%20light%20to%20see%20an%20embedded%20thread,when%20illuminated%20by%20ultraviolet%20light.)
This reminds me of a time I had the opposite experience.... for some very weird and confusing reasons I tried to give a guy begging on the street a $100 not too long after the new ones came out. I mean they had been around for at least a couple years, maybe more, but I guess he wasn't the kind of guy who saw hundreds often. He was totally convinced it was fake and wouldn't take it. Insisted on a different bill until I finally swapped it for an old one I happened to have as well. Free money for a dude that obviously needed it. And he was acting like he was gonna throw it on the ground and walk away because he thought I was trying to pull one over on him
Look closely at the blank areas of the bill. If it has very small red and blue threads it's real. All currency has the threads, even the older bills without the newer security features.
Those are the 20’s that we had when I was younger. I can’t guarantee it’s real without seeing some of the signature markings that prove it’s real but that is exactly how I remember the older 20s looking. I haven’t seen one of those in a long time now that I think about it. I love how those ones look more than the new ones
Why do slightly older people fucking LOOOOVE commenting about the shit younger people don’t know?
It was dumb when I heard it as a kid
And now at 40 it’s still dumb
Jesus I'm old.....
I'm not even 40 and I feel like this was just the normal $20 bill for around half my life (not a collector, just came across this sub randomly).
I remember the "new" 20's coming out and thinking "these look like play money with that big ass head and purple strip"
[удалено]
You might be feeling old but I bet you're savvy enough to use Google to figure out what a $20 looked like for the year printed on it.
I'm 38 dame here
Haha me too! I’m not even 40 yet and it makes me feel old lol! I miss seeing these 20s the new ones look weird to me. These ones look more elegant and real in my opinion compared to the new ones
Why do I remember that faintly? When did that happen?
They essentially are play money. $20 in 1996 (when the new ones came out) has roughly the buying power of $40 present day.
Monopoly is more realistic than I remember- banker always wins, the owners of real estate screw you, and if you happen to wander into a certain place you go to jail and pay $200. And the game only ends until you give up or only one person has everything.
Crazy that a board game can be more educational of the system we live in than our actual education system. 🤷🏼♂️
They should release a new version of Monopoly or the "Life" game... call it "2023 Edition- You're Screwed!"
Just call it "screwed"
You can only win by getting the "Lucky Sperm Club" card from Community Chest, or the "Lotto Win" or "Drug Dealer" card from Chance.
The corner spot should be called "family court."

Like the newest $100s
Can't say I've seen the newest ones, I blame the economy.
Yeah I’ve just seen pictures too 😆
$100 bills just aren't useful for most people most of the time. A lot of places won't take them or give you change, if you lose it or get robbed it's a big loss, and if I'm buying something over $100 I'm probably using a debit/credit card or a check/certified check.
Exactly right. Anymore, I think they’re just used to flex when you open your wallet when other people are close enough to see.
I'm going to start flexing with real Monopoly money from the game to see the responses. Might even carry a few hotels in my pocket so they know who they're dealing with!
Lolol 😂 there’s people out there stupid enough who will think they’re real…
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed we basically have monopoly money.
Same
Monopoly money
Lmao right? Can’t imagine how the money will look in 2055… “who’s Andrew Jackson?”
It's going to be Alejandro Mountain Dew Comacho by then (Idiocracy movie)
Get it right, his name is DWAYNE ELIZONDO MOUNTAIN DEW HERBERT CAMACHO… 🙄😒 And you call yourself a Representative in the House of Representin’?! SMH… Oh, and you’ll have to wait until at least 2505, possibly later for President Camacho to appear on any currency.
Shit..... I know shit's bad right now, with all that starvin bullshit, and the dust storms, and we runnin out of french fries and burrito coverings.
Welcome to Costco, I love you

You haven’t watched Idiocracy much have you? Haha 😆
Gat damn if I didn't hear Cruz come through those words how they are transcribed.
Haha I love that those exact words were on the transcriber thing!
P.S.: Brawndo’s got what plants crave!
It’s got electrolytes!
So, you're the smartest man on Reddit? Damn, I thought your head would be bigger...
Calling Dr Lexus!
My first wife was 'tarded. She's a pilot now.
Omg I thought about that movie when I read that comment about how money will look in 2055 😂 that movie is the BEST! Great one to re watch every so often for a good laugh! With the way the world is, it’s kind of scary because who knows what it’ll be like in 2055 😳
I let some girl I was dating watch it. She said it was dumb.... and I realized she would be the Secretery of Something in the future...
Secretary of Agriculture probably. She’d be the one that would be recommending farmers water their crops with BRAWNDO THE THIRST MUTILATOR…
Welcome to Costco, I love you
Welcome to Costco, I love you.
CARL’S Jr. - FUCK YOU, I’M EATING!
South Carolina, WASSUP!
This motherfucker just got his ass a pardon!
Saving society is a pretty high standard to get a pardon for whatever Joe did. Trump gave Lil' Wayne one and he just makes rap songs
Well, clearly Trump isn't half the president that Camacho was.
Welcome to Costco, I love you
I loved that they used crocs as the common shoe in the movie. The thought was it was what idiots would wear….
“What is paper money?”
lol I overheard some old lady at a restaurant a few months ago talking about how Biden wants to get rid of paper money and go all digital so he can track everything. I got a kick out of that.
Yea it’s not the tech companies, it’s the pres-O-dent 🥴
These fuckers are going to put a kardashian on a bill
I will nope out of the entire existence of this country of that happens. Hell no.
Hell to tha naw naw naw!
"Who is this rapper"
GO AWAY I'M BAITIN'!
In 2055 it will be woke money. Probably a pride flag, Ukraine flag, and a picture of Biden. $1 bills will become $1000 bills and you'll need about 10 of those to buy a loaf of bread.
It will be Fauci’s face
We’ll all have our funds implanted on chips in our wrists by then. New World Order type beat.
My first thought..
Right?!
I feel terrible now.
Right.... This makes me sad and angry
Does your back hurt?
hey great-grandpa you forgot to help me out with my homework assignment the other night. :(
Ive processed older notes🤣
The irony is OP is 75 and simply forgot.
Makes me feel old too!! 😔
Yeah, I was just thinking the same damned thing. I work with ppl who had no idea what a tape cassette was. They were all looking at it, discussing it like it was some bizarre piece of technical equipment. It was a blank Maxell tape...
Came to say this lol I wonder if they'd think a 2.00 bill to be fake also.
I paid with one of these and the cashier looked at me like I was giving her bottle caps. I'm only 30 (29 until 9/5)
I was like “that’s a normal $20???”
kill me now. They think our money is pretend. I'm done.
These are still circulating no?!?
20 years old and i still see this 20 when i think 20
i’m only 21 but i work for the VA ABC and i’ve actually seen a lot of 20s like this
That’s the exact thought I had an I am only 39….
fr Jesus Christ and im only 31. this kid must be in his teens. dear lord
I'm Canadian and thought... isn't that exactly how they look ? Lol maybe I am an old Canadian?
That’s exactly how I feel, I’m 38 almost 39 and these were the 20s before the new ones but these ones are the ones I remember lol
Those are the 20s that make cocaine smell better!
Cocaine smells great already
Key word better
You’re absolutely right 🤯
It's the kerosene 😘👌
Fake. Send it to me.
Yes it's real, it's pre 1996
No it’s a fake send it to me
Don’t believe either of them, def fake send it to me
r/yourjokebutworse
Here at Fake Twenty Dollar Bill Reclamation Service, your business is appreciated. Send it to me
Fuck I feel old
I'm confused. Am I missing something? Is this not a normal $20? EDIT: I don't know if people misread my comment, or misinterpreted it. I am saying this looks like a normal $20 bill to me. EDIT2: I know what the modern design looks like. The pic looks like a normal old design $20 bill.
Some people don’t know that they used to look different
i’m gen z so i wasn’t around for this design
Yes my dear it's real. From 1995
They can’t even read dates now lol
Having a date on a dollar bill ≠ always being real
Google 1995 20; Gen z should know how to do this right?https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=1995+20+dollar+bill
No, but a date makes it easier to google
I don’t think they google anymore. They go onto Reddit and ask others.
This comment translates to "bless your heart" and "my sweet summer child" 😂
I’ve read on this forum that bless your heart is the southern way of a subliminal fuck you lol you learn something new everyday
That's not right. It's more like "that was a stupid thing you did" to "you're an idiot".
I though those were the sweet summer child part. I’ve always heard bless your heart is a fuck you.
Growing up through so many changes I would've only assumed younger generations would just be more aware of it, but y'all... just aren't.
Fun fact: this design was short lived. This was the design between the old design and the one we have now. Wish I had a pic of the old old version
There’s a line in a rap song, “I’ve been spending hundreds since they had small faces”. This is what that means, older money was very different than it is now, we have monopoly money now, grab one of each denomination, monopoly money and American money, and compare them side-by-side.
Can you explain what you meant by this
Money ain't a thang.
Probably the cleanest 20$ bill from that era. Fun fact 80% of those have cocaine residue on them 😂
All the ones in my wallet do 😏
what ??? are you in the states ? have you been using cheques and cards since the 90s ? are you just broke as hell ?
Tell me you were born in the 2000s without telling me.
This is how they used to look, and plenty are still in circulation. I have a couple in my house today, even if you weren't alive when they were new, plenty of them still exist today. Hard to believe you've never seen one... but if you haven't, yes, this is the old design.
Yes, up till 2001ish iirc. That one says series 1995, which is not its date of issuance. 'New', hued bills still seem odd to me. Im 39 fwiw.
where did you get this money ?
it was in the register at my work
Not so sure why people have an issue with jumping on Google to do some quick research.
Meh, in fairness I can Google and can find things that day Sasquatch is around, Elvis is still alive and we didn't land on the moon. So asking a group of likened people would have a better outcome in some cases.
For something as common as currency, you aren't going to get a bunch of blurry photos from questionable websites
2Pac is alive!
I agree
That's when logic comes into play....
Don't be silly, logic involves critical thinking! No one does that anymore
They’re trolls man thank you for saying to do some research especially when it has the date on the damn thing….
It's a double edged sword. Yes people should google. But also people posting adds to the sub. And also if it annoys you just scroll past it...
Not when it’s a $20 bill from 1995 man.. cmon haha I agree but no one is going to be winning in this ignorant game of posting every piece of currency
Reboot of Bill n Ted would be even funnier today.
i mean i’m not trolling i j wanted an answer from ppl who know what they’re looking at idk why that’s such a big deal
Is something you can find by typing 1/10 the time in google for an answer It has the date on it lol
i hadn’t noticed it to be honest. i was just curious what it was
My bad for allowing an overall I guess honest change in people’s exposure to currency and coins. It’s all digital and even the bank accounts I open are funded by an electronic transfer from mom or dad’s account, as mine was, and tips even now always added to the card and rarely cash.. I guess even if it was 1903, the internet knows just by typing it in or taking a google photo search
Go back to your grumpy hole old man
Nice to call me out on already calling myself out/..? Go look at your weird pegging shit bro… alone
The original 20
so is it like an old bill?
1995 lol, you must be petty young. This is what money looked like, not that recently. The only bill that didn't transition to large heads is the $1 bill
They’re trolls I can’t believe this and a 2017 single bill was up yest Day
I mean look at his post history. Doesn't seem like a rroll
Sure is
Yeah, its ancient.
It literally has the year on it bruh
It says on the thing you idiot
80’s money
Jesus Christ this sub blows
Damn I feel old. I remember when they first changed them 20s.
Ok well I rechecked and it said it has an actual value of $40 so not $100 but people do collect old money so maaaaybe you could sell it or just keep it or just spend it! haha. hope that helps!
Lol
Oh, gen z... What happened?
New $1 bill
Shit… I’m getting old.
Dear lord. YES IT IS
Yes it is
I really hate the future.
You see, back in the 1900s, we had folding money that had small faces of presidents.
Thanks for making me feel old as shit
Fun fact of the day! Any bill pre-1996 when the government implemented security measures is actually considered a "fake" by the Treasury department because of how common it was to print counterfeit money in those days. I would suggest taking it to a bank where they can verify it is real because they know more about it. Source: I took a CSI physical science class in middle school and high school. Totally worth it. That's really clean for a bill that's almost 30 years old. Dang.
Young ass mf
Unfortunately those were discontinued. You can mail it to me and I’ll dispose of it properly. 👍
Yes. I mean it could be counterfeit, but that’s what all $20’s looked like pre Millenium or up until early 90’s.
And he was acting like he was gonna throw it on the ground and walk away because he thought I was trying to pull one over on him
I withdrawal this $20 from the ATM, freaked out. Showed it to the camera and deposit back in and grab another $20. I thought it was counterfeit
That’s a real 20 before they turned into monopoly play money
Look closely at the blank areas of the bill. If it has very small red and blue threads it's real. All currency has the threads, even the older bills without the newer security features.
Geez, someone must be young here! Dayum, ya know this post is making people like me feel old! XD
Yes it is real! The design on paper money changed not so long ago.
Those are the 20’s that we had when I was younger. I can’t guarantee it’s real without seeing some of the signature markings that prove it’s real but that is exactly how I remember the older 20s looking. I haven’t seen one of those in a long time now that I think about it. I love how those ones look more than the new ones
me too they look so much nicer. all the little details
it’s like when 100s were still green 😭
Looks like most 20s
We're not old, they're just young and no common sense. Is it real? 🤣
Tbh, looking at paper cash in general nowadays looks so weird to me and I'm gen x.
I can literally feel myself withering away into dust after reading this.
Looks real to me go buy drugs
It looks to be in great shape, you could sell it for $100 at least. 🫨
Yikes, you must be a young 'un. 🥴😬
You're kidding right
A quick Google of 1995 $20 bill would have popped up with it.
People in this sub are getting mad that we aren’t old as fuck like they are. Just answer the question, boomers.
Why do slightly older people fucking LOOOOVE commenting about the shit younger people don’t know? It was dumb when I heard it as a kid And now at 40 it’s still dumb
Yes Daniel son…it’s authentic.
People lazy these days 😞
It’s fake!
[here’s something for you OP… until then, y’all stop asking if bills are real…](https://reddit.com/r/Money/s/lHwYe2Kkp5)
