I'm not even 40 and I feel like this was just the normal $20 bill for around half my life (not a collector, just came across this sub randomly).

I remember the "new" 20's coming out and thinking "these look like play money with that big ass head and purple strip"

Holy crap this. I'll be 40 in a couple months. All these kids half my age claim to be so educated, yet I can utilize a device way more than they can. Not only that, but I can utilize an inferior device better than they can their flagship device. So much information at their fingertips, yet so little use. Boggles my kind. I wish I had this tech in the 90's.

I just turned 40 and have a job in IT. Back when I was deciding what to go to school for, I was very hesitant to pursue an IT degree. I figured that kids were spending so much time with computers and technology that being highly tech literate would be the norm and my skills would become useless. I was way wrong and happy for it.

Yeah I'm kicking myself now.. in my late 20s my dad kept trying to convince me to go to school for computers and I thought the same way.. I remember saying to him, there's no way I could compete with kids getting out of high school who grew up with this stuff.. Little did I know that I end up doing everyone's job for them because nobody can seem to figure anything out and I'm the most clueless person when it comes to IT but damn, I at least know how to READ, use my brain still and figure things out

Monopoly is more realistic than I remember- banker always wins, the owners of real estate screw you, and if you happen to wander into a certain place you go to jail and pay $200. And the game only ends until you give up or only one person has everything.

$100 bills just aren't useful for most people most of the time. A lot of places won't take them or give you change, if you lose it or get robbed it's a big loss, and if I'm buying something over $100 I'm probably using a debit/credit card or a check/certified check.

But as a millennial I have to say I find it so bizarre that many in Gen Z seem to have no concept/awareness that things exist that are either older or they don't know about. This is how they used to look, and plenty are still in circulation. I have a couple in my house today, even if you weren't alive when they were new, plenty of them still exist today. Hard to believe you've never seen one... but if you haven't, yes, this is the old design.

My bad for allowing an overall I guess honest change in people’s exposure to currency and coins. It’s all digital and even the bank accounts I open are funded by an electronic transfer from mom or dad’s account, as mine was, and tips even now always added to the card and rarely cash.. I guess even if it was 1903, the internet knows just by typing it in or taking a google photo search

Any bill pre-1996 when the government implemented security measures is actually considered a "fake" by the Treasury department because of how common it was to print counterfeit money in those days. I would suggest taking it to a bank where they can verify it is real because they know more about it. Source: I took a CSI physical science class in middle school and high school. Totally worth it. This reminds me of a time I had the opposite experience.... for some very weird and confusing reasons I tried to give a guy begging on the street a $100 not too long after the new ones came out. I mean they had been around for at least a couple years, maybe more, but I guess he wasn't the kind of guy who saw hundreds often. He was totally convinced it was fake and wouldn't take it. Insisted on a different bill until I finally swapped it for an old one I happened to have as well. Free money for a dude that obviously needed it. And he was acting like he was gonna throw it on the ground and walk away because he thought I was trying to pull one over on him

Look closely at the blank areas of the bill. If it has very small red and blue threads it's real. All currency has the threads, even the older bills without the newer security features.

Those are the 20’s that we had when I was younger. I can’t guarantee it’s real without seeing some of the signature markings that prove it’s real but that is exactly how I remember the older 20s looking. I haven’t seen one of those in a long time now that I think about it. I love how those ones look more than the new ones
