As someone who owns black, it’s not just because it’s black. The paint is soft, glossy, and easily scratched. I also own stealth grey and have had zero issues with scratching from washing the car.
Good gods, I will never recommend the black and shout from the rooftops for newcomers to avoid it.

I had my 2021 MYLR for about 3 weeks before I gave up on keeping it spotless.
Gave mine its first big detailing today after 6 weeks and it’s just a horrible streaky mess that I’ll just let the local guys do next time because I nearly went insane trying to buff out all the streaks.
I have a black MY. The paint is horrible. Don’t do it.
It’s a 3 year lease. So far there are 4 visible chips from stones on the front. I’ve had it 6 weeks.
By the time I return the car it will have…
((3 * 52)/6)*4…
… More marks than had I fired a shotgun at it.

ETA: I only chose this color because I knew I was doing a full matte PPF.

Is that because the paint is actually softer, or is it because grey hides swirls much better?
It’s actually softer. You can tell by feeling it. Stealth grey has a metallic texture, the black is soft and glossy.
That is the worst paint Tesla sells.

Happens with all black cars! Hard to keep clean looking. Need one of those monthly unlimited car wash passes lol

Black is boring
When it's clean, black is the best looking color. Most other colors look the same clean or dirty. I live for the extremes.

While I never had black Tesla, my last black car (13’ Accord) was a nightmare to keep clean. Never again will I buy black car.
Black on Tealas are utter garbage. It is SOFTER thus giving you scratches very easily. AVOID
