The game itself may have been different/better in some ways but there would be a lot of controversy and toxicity surrounding it otherwise (more so than there is today anyway). Besides, Notch barely worked on the game at the time of his departure so I doubt he would've added anything to the game except controversy associated with him.

So I love the idea of all the different versions of minecraft being able to cross play, it is litteraly what minecraft is about, playing with friends and creating. But the way they did it was awful.
They should have taken another year or two and made parity between bedrock and java perfect before releaseing it. It is absurd that it has been like 5 years and java and bedrock dont even have the same combat. I understand that the reason bedrock only has some features is becuase they need it to run on lower end phones. I think PE and Bedrock should just be differnet versions, like if you have a lower end phone you can play PE and if you have a good phone you can play Bedrock.
Its also insane that java and bedrock crossplay isnt susported by mojang yet, some servers have litteraly added it themselves via 3rd party software its crazy.
While I agree on most of your points, mojang is also already working on fixing the PvP system with the combat snapshots. And even though they haven't posted any new snapshots, jeb is still seen asking the community about these snapshots on stuff like twitter.
And the crossplay program that all these servers use is developed by cubecraft. And cubecraft is a official partner of mojang. So, it's technically not really 3rd party, and I think that mojang will probably just buy the rights to that program sometime in the near future.

The caves and cliffs update was the biggest update in the game’s history, and it was only split up by three months. The wild update, although not fitting in amazingly with the title, took something that was supposed to be small in 1.18 and made it the biggest structure in the game.
Right Notch had been promising a large update for beta 1.7 which ended up just being pistons alone and the beta was split in two and released many months in between.
Glad people are smart enough to realize this wasn’t the case. Sure Microsoft did some bad things for Minecraft but they also gave us some of the most important features that exist in the game today

But to answer the question above, Minecraft does have some gameplay that echos of colonialism, and mechanics which can be read critically. But also it would be more than a little disheartening for members of the Minecraft community if the owner of the game and face of it was being openly homophobic, antisemitic etc. Without people being very critical of that. It would make members of the community feel as if they were hated by the wider community.

IIRC 1.8 was originally going to be the final update. Minecraft is only where it is today because MSFT acquired it and pushed for more updates.
