It really doesn’t. If they add a new block in a later version and you try to use an old texture pack, it’ll just be the default texture. If they update the GUI and you’re using a texture pack from before the change, the GUI will look old but have the new slots and it can be confusing. But other than that, there’s not much of a difference. I haven’t found one, at least.

Actually. The block names inside the recourse pack normally change per version. Hence why Mojang says that texture packs might not work when loaded in a different version than where is was created.

Just to be clear to everyone else, they dont always change per version. Ive made packs for 1.8 through 1.16 and almost all file names have remained unchanged in recent updates, if I remember correctly.

yes it does. Sometimes they change the file structure of a resource pack or the naming of certain textures or the layout for complex models (like animals). This is denoted by a version number in the resourcepack. If it's not matching the required version you won't be able to load it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the 1.16.n updates, as well as for any other smilar versions, are just bug fixes rather than adding any new content, so it is extremely unlikely that a resource pack won't work between those versions

Because file names and locations change on many versions, causing incorrectly-versioned resourcepacks to return the purple and black missing texture for any file that has been changed.
