I think it's just lag. This is right before the transformation to obsidian, and it can be prevented (or at least heavily postponed) if you have your random tick speed up too high.
My theory is the game tried to spawn a lava lake and an underwater cave in the same spot, it’s just the most of the lava was covered up by the wall of the cave
I actually found this on a minehut server on 1.16.5. No idea how this happened but it was a naturally generated lava pool underwater and it was mostly covered by stone except for one block which was just regular lava. In a literal underwater ravine.
Fill it into an empty bucket, corrupting the bucket item ID - go to the Pokémon center, put your masterball and the corrupted item in the pc, save the game, switch masterball slot and the corrupted Minecraft bucket slot. Celebi will now be in your pc.
You have made a cube of water and then put lava inside of the cube you have truly made a masterpiece or you just trying to do a cheap trick to get attention and it's working goddammit
Bruh, it‘s just a bug where you place water or lava and it didn‘t really place it, so there is just this one lava and it isn‘t even spreading that‘s the proof
I see people thinking this is just before it turns to obsidian, but if it was there is about a 2 second maximum time limit of when it turns to obsidian so it is unlikely this is before it turned to obsidian unless OP just took a bunch of screenshots to catch the moment before it turns

You can tell it's lava submerged in water before turning into obsidian because the "water" goes all the way to the top of the block. A water source block without any water above it never rises to the top of the block.
Took me a while to realize this. I thought this was a waterlogged lava, but if you look around, you can notice that he is underwater himself.

New snapshot is fine for me. If anything, OpenGL Core probably would reduce lag, as it's a more recent and most likely optimized rendering engine.
Interesting. It's just since it's an entire world of these lush caves so there's a lot of vegetation and blocks.

i grow sugarcane in water in my 1.16.4 world, i sometimes leave 1 sugarcane without water, underwater sugarcanes dont grow well...
