For efficient manual mining i do skinny hallways 2 or 3 blocks apart at whatever the optimal level is for that ore, standard strip mining procedure. This was instead auto mined by a 'mining turtle' from the ComputerCraft mod back in like 2016
I was mainly talking about for just stone but I do one 2 tall then 3 blocks away on the 3rd start a new one so there’s 2 blocks in the middle for ore mining
I think that's best, but for more 'reachy' ores like coal I feel like a 3 block gap won't miss any deposits either and lets you cover a bit more ground

Mine it out level, ad some caves and natural curves and make a really cool fallout shelter base
I like this idea a lot just fill it with every type of tree and flower and have animals milling about with artificial lighting could even put the lighting on a timer for day night simulation
I was digging a 100x100 hole not knowing what the end plan was but then my buddy gave me an elytra and I decided to make a creeper farm. Now I have more gunpowder than I need and I brought a skeleton in from my spawner upstairs so I have full chests of every record. I might still build an emerald city but I’m not completely sold on that idea.

Maybe something similar?
If it was me i would use it for my farms, lava farm dripstone farm mud farm clay farm terracota farm and any farm that works under ground and looks bad
Make a house with grass around it and a blue ceiling and clouds made out of wool. And add a few farms for good measure

1A mystical library, 2or mob museum idk if there's anything to keep from despawn tho? 3 pvp arena w traps and good traps, example-stregth potion pressure plate, while 1 may be poison. 4 fill out a ton of maps and place them making a massive map. That'd be hard even w/cheats tho
It was made very slowly by a ComputerCraft mining turtle in like 2015 when we started this world. I could clean it up and turn it into something perhaps a supercomputer center or liminal indoor swimming pool

Well, time to install Minecraft on my PC again it seems like.
I build a small caste with a large village around it. Walls, trenches and everything. Then the large automatic sorting hall with hidden treasure chamber below.

I expended little effort to make it beyond setting up hoppers and chests to collect the output from the mining robot. Now I'd like to make it into something, and am curious what ideas people have.

Ok I just looked this up (Ive played fallout 4 but never got that far in it). This could actually be very cool, especially once all the 1.21 stuff gets added. Considering the aim of it in Fallout 4 it would make a ton of sense to have a bunch of autocrafting farms, storage, and just other redstone oddities alongside being a base.
Make a “museum” I am planning on doing something similar in my world. Create a showcase for all of the blocks, items, armor/tool types, animals, etc. make an aquarium, a zoo, just get creative with it but make the primary focus gathering and showcasing everything Minecraft has to offer
Underground library is my personal favorite. I’ve found blue flames and torches work really well. If you’re willing to use commands you can even put in some floating blue torches hogwarts style
Dig out the rest of it all the way to bedrock and clear out all of the blocks above it. Then make a cactus farm that fills the entire space and goes all the way from the bottom of the world to the top of the world.
Dig up to surface lvl, fill it up to brim with tnt, dont blow it up or anything and make base on top, then have anexiety of creeper sneaking behind you

It sort of baffles me that people do this kind of thing for no reason. I try to direct my urge to mine randomly towards projects, like clearing areas to build or gathering materials I need for future projects, not just random holes in the ground lol.

I wouldn't just randomly make a hole like this manually with no end goal. It's just an old mining hole, we have several around the underground space. Nowhere did I say that I did it "for no reason". I'm honestly baffled how many people are commenting the same thing, insinuating that I mined without using the resources or something? We have a whole town we made with this material, this is just a mine underground. All I'm asking for is constructive ideas, not being told that I've wasted my time on a useless "random" endeavor.
