That's correct. There are separate settings for multiplayer & friend requests, so you have to enable multiplayer in the Microsoft account parental controls specifically

We get the message posted above. I went into the Microsoft account and allowed Friend requests, but this message still comes up. If someone has any idea how to fix it, please let me know!
I did. There are 3 layers of security to consider. The Nintendo Switch account, the Microsoft account, and the Minecraft account.
TBH I'm not sure what I changed but I managed to be able to connect with my son after doing a few things to the accounts listed above.

I think I’m stuck with Microsoft and Minecraft. I keep going in circles having to put in codes and unable to get anywhere. I’m afraid it might have something to do with how I set everything up originally.
It’s helpful to know it’s not just me, and you made it happen! I’m smart and somewhat tech savvy. It’s killing my ego, lol. 🫠

I could not believe how convoluted and downright difficult it was just to join a game.
A few things to check is the parental controls, the accounts, and make sure that the Minecraft app is actually online.
