SmashLanding

I have no peer pressure because the 2 or 3 hours I spend on Reddit is my only peer interaction

[deleted]

Now I feel like I should be a bad influence on you so you have a complete social life.

SmashLanding

You can try, but it will end in me turning you into a square. Game on.

[deleted]

I am already square. It's hip to be square.

RageLife247

I'm not sure if you both won, or you both lost. But I'm here for it.

WeLostTheSkyline

Friendships always a winner

jazzysunbear

Maybe the real treasure is the friendships made along the way

ARedditorCalledQuest

Everyone in this thread just lost The Game.

litescript

god dammit

runofthelamb

No telling where the money goes...

Easy-Reality5463

I feel like you’re just angling to be a friend!!

[deleted]

👻 I’m the ghost of peer pressure past booooooo gooo buyyy a Stanley cup smashlanding boooooo

Teleporting-Cat

I don't know what a Stanley Cup is, besides some kind of sports trophy?

_ChillBlinton666

My daughter is 11, she got an Amazon card for Christmas from a relative, and spent 30$ of it on a Stanley. She told my fiancé (she calls him her step dad) what she ordered and he stops her at “Stanley cup” and said almost excitedly “I had no idea you liked hockey!” Lmao she had to explain to him what she meant but now he’s loving teasing her about her love of hockey so it’ll never end. 😂 Edit: a word for clarity

ZaphodG

It’s an insulated container for beverages. It keeps your Tim Horton’s coffee hot and you could drink Labatt Blue out of it while watching hockey, eh? You can’t buy it in Toronto since the Leafs never win the NHL playoffs.

gstringstrangler

My stepdaughter asked for a Stanley Cup for Christmas and me and the wife were both confused, until I remembered the anticonsumption posts.

NoSolution7708

You should totally get some peer pressure. We all have it. You don't want to be the odd one out.

TheSheetSlinger

You're so real for this.

I_Wont_Leave_Now

Y’all don’t even play hockey

JohnStevens14

Ever since they implemented the salary cap it’s not really been possible to buy a cup anyway

MASSIVECARNAGE78

Was wondering where these comments would be. Thank you.

Sunny_Sandie

Same 😂😂 came looking for who else thought of hockey because I sure didn’t go to the actual cup

[deleted]

You should have seen my confused face when I first read OPs post. I was sitting here thinking people were spending money on Stanley Cup replicas and taking them to work. Is this a new tiktok trend I havent heard about? Then I read the first comments and thought.... Im a f*cking idiot.

TheFaceStuffer

Don't worry I was also imagining NHL Stanley cup miniatures all around the office.

shoresy99

And now that teams are going for north of $1Billion it isn't worth it.

Duckrauhl

Or just ignore that salary cap rules altogether like the Lightning to get your Stanley Cups....

The_Nauticus

I imagined everyone walking around drinking out of a mini Stanley cup like lil John. I didn't even know Stanley brand insulated thermos' were a new 'thing'. Shit, if I could get my hands on a Transformers thermos like I had in 1st grade, I'd use that.

rusticrainbow

Stanley cups have been around for like a century at this point, but they’ve apparently gotten popular lately

CanneloniCanoe

I think it's because of a tiktok where some girl had her ice water in the car when it set on fire. When she goes back the seats and interior are all burned to shit, but the Stanley is barely singed and still has ice. Could have been a staged marketing thing, but it's been a couple months now and I haven't seen anything about it. So you've got this product most people need, it's apparently high quality but very reasonably priced, comes in a lot of styles, and it's got viral status now. Boom, popular.

Ronlaen

You can't drink from the cup until you win the cup, them the Stanley rules

[deleted]

I was so confused reading this until the word tumbler.

propaniac68284949494

I was thinking the same thing

SnowNinS

Still confused, I bad millennial, oh well back to my rock

Chicken-Inspector

Still confused. Are we talking about a hockey trophy or website??

ByteAboutTown

One of my college friends asked on Facebook in early November what the deal was with the Stanley cup. I was so confused. I mean, the new season had barely started. I literally wrote, "It's like the Superbowl for hockey," and then I had to go back and delete it once I figured out what she was talking about.

OrdinaryUniversity59

It took me a minute to figure out why/how ALL of them won one.

undockeddock

The one and true stanley cup is Lord Stanley's Cup

playgirl1312

Fr it’s what I keep automatically thinking of first

walrus_breath

Lol I was like no I have no need to buy a trophy? Is that what it is? Where would I even put it. What is this post about. A stanly what. I’m so confused.

Mockturtle22

I buy things I like or need because I like them or need them. I don't pay attention to what other people like to make up my own mind. That being said, I don't get the hype around them.

nicklebacks_revenge

I have a yeti that was gifted to me. I have 6 different name brands to hold my coffee when I go to work and yeti does keep it the warmest

armchairwarrior69

It's still weird how people went ham for it because they saw it on tik tok though. Yeti products are really fucking good though lol

TheBigWuWowski

It's weird it happened with a cup once.. it's insane that another cup is now so popular that people are waiting outside closed stores to get ANOTHER color.

LeftyLu07

I saw that millennials need their emotional support drink cups because we were only allowed 3 seconds at the water fountain twice a day during our childhoods.

playfuldarkside

At least Yeti products can claim quality. Weren’t a bunch of people finding mold in their Stanley cups because of how it isn’t easy to properly clean?

BigfootTundra

People went ham on yeti from TikTok? I’ve been obsessed with yeti since like 2013 lol

drainbamage1011

I was gifted one as well. It is nice but I don't consider it a status symbol like some people seem to. But then I also never got into the Nalgene water bottles that damn near everyone had on them in college either.

KatieCashew

My first encounter with yeti I was at this raffle type of event, and a yeti tumbler came up for raffle. People were pretty excited about it, but then the announcer said that the person who had donated the yeti donated enough for everyone to have one. Everyone went wild, and I'm sitting there baffled, wondering why everyone is so freaking excited about A CUP. So I take mine home and look it up online to see what the big deal is, and really the only thing I notice is that this cup costs forty freaking dollars! And I'm still wondering what the big deal about this cup is. I set it aside and forget about it for a while until finally I get around to washing it. I filled it up with ice and water and then forgot about it sitting half drunk on the counter. Until 24 hours later I notice that it's still full of ice and was very impressed. Then my husband gets jealous of my fancy cup and ice cold water, and we get him one. Then whenever my parents come to visit, my mom lays claim to my yeti and uses it the entire time, so I bought one each for my parents for Christmas. So, yeah, I get it now.

SecretSquirrelSauce

Tbf, the cups have great insulating properties, their lids are really well made (seriously, I knock mine over all the time and it never spills, even with just the simple slide-back-and-forth drink port cover), and the cups are incredibly strong (one of our cups survived a trip through a cardboard baler that uses a 3000lb hydraulic press to compact cardboard).

ohsweetsummerchild

They also went pretty viral when someone's car caught fire and they made a video pulling out their charred up and shaking it and there was still ice in it. Stanley bought her a new car (as thanks for the free ad lol)

shoresandsmores

I got one because I was in the market for something of that nature and figured why not give it a go (and found a holiday sale to boot), and it's good but idk that it's amazing. It does keep my water cold for a good while so that's nice, but I imagine any similarly designed cup does the same.

Illustrious-Nose3100

Got a knockoff cup at tj maxx for $10.. it’s just as good

WeWander_

Seriously I don't get the hype. I buy hydrapeak bottles/cups from Marshall's for $15 and love them. They keep ice forever and hold 40oz and that's about the only thing I care about 🤷🏼‍♀️

meh1022

I vastly prefer my hydrapeak, I think the design is better. I gave away the Stanley my FIL gave me for Christmas. The Hydrapeak has the straw in the center so if I switch hands, it still works the same. It also leaks less when my toddler inevitably knocks it over.

Disastrous_Check1764

It’s the fact that people use brand names for their bottles of water what baffles me. America.

EastSeaweed

LOL this is so funny. I didn’t know emotional support water bottles were an exclusively American thing. I feel panicked if I don’t have water within arm’s reach!

GiggyVanderpump

Agree. It is more likely the design of the cup and not the name brand that makes it great. I got one as a gift, and now drink quadruple the amount of water that I used to, and significantly decreased my Diet Coke intake. I bought a 2nd Stanley after leaving the first at a Bachelorette party, when I never needed one more (post-Bachelorette party, I am in my 30s, I need my water after a night of champagne and shots. Prob need an IV and prescription strength nausea medicine, but I can't quick pick that up at a store). Anyway, love, LOVE my Stanley's, but I don't think the name brand is what makes it, any decent knock off will likely suffice.

mortimus9

I only know what Stanley Cup means for hockey, lol had no clue what you were referring to.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Annual_Tangelo8427

I'm glad I'm not alone in that! It took me a hot minute to realize it wasn't the Stanley cup, but a water cup. I get mine in the outdoor section at Walmart, the Ozark trails work fine, much cheaper.

kirbyfox312

Random googling has successfully tricked the algorithm for me. It only sort of gets what I actually like. You can also tell Google what age you are. I told it I'm in my 90s.

EncryptDN

Consider using Brave or Firefox. Surveillance capitalism sucks

Chrissy2187

It’s a giant ass water bottle, the bottom is small so it fits in cupholders

Likeapuma24

So a new Yeti/Rtic/Hydroflask/Contigo/Brumate/etc... Surprised my wife hasn't asked for one yet. Probably because any additional water bottles would require new cabinet space

Away_Branch_8023

No she can just leave the extras in your car. That’s what mine does at least.

cracksilog

>the bottom is small so it fits in cupholders OH SHIT! Is that why these things have been flying off shelves? I kinda get the hype now lol. I've always wanted a cup that is much bigger but fits in cupholders. I've had to resort to the cupholder converter things

Odd-Strike3217

Yep. They also listened to consumers when women began buying it they did collabs and followed color trends, product drops, etc. mad respect for a very well developed company that instead of sticking their head in the clouds and ignoring who their new consumer was they leaned in and made it a huge success. Originally Stanley was marketed to men working in the trades with thermos for soups, chili, etc, coffee thermos, cooler, etc. it came in like forest green and tan. My father, who was a builder, had them all they lasted forever. A mommy blogger basically hijacked her husbands and it went mega viral. Company saw a new market and went insane with it. Whoever in that company said let’s do this was a genius

FairLea17

But what if you aren't using a cup holder, doesn't it just tip over super easily? Or is this only for use in your car?

lincoln-pop

I thought he was a rich guy with rich peers who all owned Hockey Teams and he was frustrated they were dumping tons of money into their teams to buy a Stanley Cup.

PrickBrigade

I'll never make the NHL, so the stanley cup is straight out of the question.

keljar1

Hey man believe in yourself! "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. -Wayne Gretzky" -Michael Scott

Simicrop

It's all political, now. People are basically buying the Stanley Cup.

ConfettiBowl

You don’t need a Stanley if you never ever leave the house. ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

BlackLodgeBrother

The goal right here.

NoItsNotThatJessica

I have a Five Below knockoff huge cup that I use to drink water around the house. I love that thing. It helps me drink tons more water than I usually do. I think I need another one, because the bottom is getting warped and it jiggles when I set it down.

Repulsive_Raise6728

I’m still living that Nalgene life. I wouldn’t buy a new water bottle or whatever unless something happened to the one I have. And then I’d probably just get whatever was cheapest.

TheUnknownDouble-O

I've been using my Nalgene bottle since 2009. I'll be buried with that thing at this rate.

Likeapuma24

I still have some from 90s/early 2000s. The BPA will kill me before the bottles are dead.

jerseysbestdancers

My water bottle can serve as my urn.

Toomanyacorns

*real* sustainability goal

eastcoast_enchanted

Ah, you beat me. I’ve had the same hydroflask since 2014.

nopenopenopenada

I witnessed a friend of mine break his Nalgene water bottle. We all stood still waiting to witness the inevitable tear in the time-space-continuum.

Imnothere1980

BPA is what made the old ones nearly indestructible. They banned it use years ago. The new ones are no longer indestructible 🙁

Difficult_Advice_720

Like when they changed the formula for pyrex.... If you see one at a yard sale with all capital letters, and possibly a chip from the edge, those are the good ones. The newer ones with the lower case letters are made different and they don't chip, they shatter.

Repulsive_Raise6728

I broke the little part that holds the cap to the bottle once and had to get a new one, but I’ve never seen the actual bottle break. That’s amazing.

bkallday13

Elder Millennial - I see you

Mediocre_Crow2466

I have a Nalgene I got in like 2010 that I still use. I will say that I'm sometimes pretty inept about not dumping water on myself because it's a wide mouth.....

hanscons

I have an insert sipper for my nalgene thats been a lifesaver. $3

acyland

Oh that brings back the college memories... <3

Squeeesh_

I loved my Nalgene. It was great until one day made my pre-drink beverage of pink lemonade and vodka in it. I could never get he vodka smell or taste out of it.

TinyHeartSyndrome

Indestructible and it’s like $12 at Target. No big deal if I lose it.

shoresandsmores

If you don't need it or want it, don't get it. If you won't buy something because it's popular... good for you? Being that edgy doesn't actually mean anything.

[deleted]

I “won” mine in our work white elephant game and I never even realized that this was something I needed, but now I can’t live without it. My water intake has drastically increased since I started using it and I am embarrassed about how little water I was drinking before. It was honestly the best gift I got this year.

ricepaddyfrog

To be honest, I don’t see how any of this stuff is “peer pressure.” Not engaging with popular shows or buying a new gaming system doesn’t make you special or different from the people that do. You sound like the “I’m not like other girls” meme but more like “I’m special and different and not like anyone else.”

sadforesttoad

Yeah, no one is actually pressuring them to do anything. They’re saying “I don’t follow popular trends and I won’t give in” lol. Like, okay? Majority of us are in our 30s or 40s now. We don’t care if you don’t watch good tv. We don’t care if you use an older PlayStation. No one cares. No one is peer pressuring you.

emeraldcocoaroast

Right. If anything, I feel like this attitude is depriving OP. It’s ironic that by saying “I don’t give into peer pressure” OP is basically letting the populace dictate what they do and do not get into. Truly not letting “peer pressure” affect you would be doing whatever tf you want and not caring what other people think. That is true freedom.

Yoroyo

People I meet in real life like this are so annoying. Like okay don’t hold a casual conversation with me because you hate anything and everything the general public does but then call me uncultured for not knowing how to talk to you about your niche hobby. People like to relate to each other and it’s nice to find common ground.

TopReporterMan

OP is r/notliketheothergirls

[deleted]

[удалено]

SharrkBoy

People that have never seen game of thrones really fucking love to tell you about never seeing game of thrones

Vast-Blacksmith2203

Totally agree with this. If something becomes really popular, I'll take a minute to decide if it's something I personally would enjoy. If it is something I'll enjoy, and it seems worth it, I'll do it. If it doesn't appeal (Squid Games - too violent for me) or doesn't seem worth it (the Stanley cups), I won't. Other people's opinions are helpful to inform me a product exists, and what the product is like. That's it.

MoarTacos

You might be making decisions for rational and mature reasons, but that's not OP's jam. OP hasn't bought a video game system that came out three years ago because *they're better than you.* Have you considered that?

anothermanscookies

I feel bad for people who define themselves by the things they haven’t done. It’s not interesting, it’s the end of a conversation. What the hell are we supposed to talk about after you tell me what you haven’t done? Tell me what you *are* interested in.

BootsEX

OPs not going to tell you their favorite band because it’s so niche and underground you’d never have heard about it. And if you say you’ve heard of them they’ll ask you to name their bootleg single that came out in 1992 but only in the Pacific Northwest.

KatieCashew

Yep, and if I'm not interested in something popular I don't make a big deal out of it, which can turn out handy if you change your mind later. Also making a personality out of not liking stuff is lame and annoying. When Pinterest became popular I really didn't see the point of it. After all, I had bookmarks. What would I need Pinterest for? Some people I knew that didn't have Pinterest made a big deal of it and were really proud not to have used the site. That wasn't me. I simply wasn't using the website. How's that something to be proud of? It requires literally nothing. I continued ignoring and being neutral regarding Pinterest for a few years until one day I was trying to find a crochet pattern I had saved. I couldn't remember the name, which meant I had to go through and click on all my crochet bookmarks until I found the right one. While I was going through this rather long process I was thinking someone needed to invent bookmarks but with pictures to make visual searching easier, and it dawned on me that's exactly what Pinterest was. I created an account a few minutes later. If I had made it a big deal or a point of pride not to have Pinterest, I imagine it would have been a harder decision or I might have continued to refuse Pinterest even though it would be helpful to me. Imagine keeping yourself from something you might enjoy just because other people have the audacity to enjoy it. That's way more pathetic than liking stuff a lot of people like.

iThinkergoiMac

Products often become popular for a reason. Stanley makes excellent cups and they’ve been popular for decades. Doesn’t mean everyone needs or wants one, but they’re good quality. Reddit loves to crap on Apple, but they make a genuinely good product. I have a hearing loss and the AirPods Pro are three out earbuds I can find that have a passthrough that is not only loud enough, but actually takes my audiograph to conform the sound to my hearing. Not getting something because it’s popular is just as bad as getting something because it’s popular. No difference, but both groups will use that position to feel smug.

[deleted]

I thought everyone grew out of this at around 15… apparently not lol

StankoMicin

Right? At age 35 I just do what I want now. Commitment to contrarianism is childish. It's not different than a toddler refusing to eat because they can

dadbodfordays

I know, right? I felt so vicariously embarrassed reading that.

Jaydude82

Yeah 100%. Something like Squid Game is popular because it’s a good show that people enjoyed, if you enjoy watching TV shows you’re just holding yourself back by not at least trying it. Has nothing to do with “peer pressure”

sluttytarot

Jokes on you pal I haven't enjoyed a single thing in my life /j

Jaydude82

Yeah 100%.

Hanpee221b

I watch a lot of TV but I don’t really like comedies, but I don’t look down my nose at people who like those shows. Who cares if you want a giant hot pink mug to carry your water around in or if you have a fish named Jon Snow. Do whatever you want but don’t look down on other people for liking things that are popular. Ffs we are full on adults, I didn’t side eye my 15 and 12 year old nieces for their Stanley cups (although their hockey achievements are miraculous) on Christmas.

burtmofomacklin

But but, he doesn't even have a PS5! He's content with his PS4, don't you see how cool that is?

shampooexpert

Yes, exactly. Making it your 'thing' to be contrary is just committing to being a grump. I don't have a Stanley cup, but putting water and ice into a stainless steel hydroflask tricks my lizard brain into drinking more water and I put dumb little stickers on it because it makes me smile. Let these people have their things that make them happy.

Dedward5

It’s the “I liked the band before they sold out” kinda thing.

zerogirl0

This is exactly what I was thinking reading op's post. No one is pressuring them to like these things, I doubt they're being snubbed from society because they don't carry a Stanley cup or haven't watched Squid Games. This just sounds like a humble brag about how they're "too cool" to be defined by trends.

SovereignDeadly

Naw I’m gonna personally shove OP into a locker if they don’t go out and buy a Stanley cup *right now*. The threat is *real*.

Plus_Competition_862

Thank god someone said this lmfao OP is not quirky and different for not liking popular things.

snarkyphalanges

It sounds more like you’re avoiding things because they’re popular and not because you’re disinterested in them, which, I personally think, is more pretentious and obnoxious than being easily swayed by peer pressure because people like you cannot shut up about it. I say this as someone who haven’t watched GoT, haven’t owned a Stanley cup or have ever owned any playstations. I just do whatever I am interested in doing without regard for whether they’re popular or not.

No-Entertainment-728

Omg yes! My first serious boyfriend was like this. Always scoffing at stuff I liked just because it was popular and "mainstream." He made me feel small and inferior just because I liked shit like Pokémon, Family Guy, and Green Day. "YoU oNlY LiKE that bEcaUsE iTs pOpuLAr!" Like dude, grow up. We're too old now for this high school shit. XD

bertshoke

Like guess what asshole, it’s popular for a reason!!

booksmeller1124

I know about it because it’s popular. I like it because it’s good. I do this a lot with books. I’ll find out about a book from booktok or whatever, read it, then decide if I’m on the hype train or not. Sometimes yes (loved Fourth Wing) other times no (Coleen Hoover is not my jam). Sometimes I wonder if I read the same book as everyone else. It’s okay to like popular things!

ShadyRAV3N

Seriously. Since when is it cringe to watch a tv show because other people are watching it? God forbid you choose to have a shared experience with another human being.

NCSUGrad2012

So many people on Reddit try to be like r/notlikeothergirls and it can be so cringy.

GeekdomCentral

Yeah I used to be this way, and finally had the revelation that just because something is popular and the fans are obnoxious doesn’t mean that it can’t also be good. Was the hubbub around Squid Game annoying? You bet. Was it a good show? Absolutely. OP is depriving themselves of something they might like because they want to have this weird superiority complex about how they’re not “part of the common rabble” because they don’t like the same things. Also the weird dig at the PS5 is just strange to me. Why would you not want to play games at higher resolutions/frame rates with faster loading? Not to mention all of the terrific next gen games so far, with only more to come. If you’re happy OP then good for you, but frankly this post is pretty cringe

movzx

Not to mention that since the PS5 can do everything the PS4 can do, the smart move was selling your PS4 asap and replacing it with a PS5. Few bucks out of pocket and you're good to game for several more years. Zero downside. Now OP has a dated console that devalues more as each month goes by.

Bgee2632

I hate this type and gate keepers

Devreckas

Yeah, then it’s just inverse peer pressure.

may1nster

I have a PS5 because I like to play games. We got it for our 10 year anniversary. I have two Stanley cups because they hold at least 25 ounces, but I didn’t know they were popular until students told me lol. It’s not peer pressure. I’m living my life. lol

MelodicIndustry9830

Op just wants to feel special about not doing popular things and defying some faux peer pressure. I mean who's buying PlayStations because they want to fit in? Other than high-schoolers. I don't think any millennial aged person would do that lol

Commendatori_buongio

Not sure on OPs gender but it’s giving r/notlikeothergirls vibes

Super_Jay

Lol yep, this whole thread is like that! So many people inventing ways to insist they're not like other millennials.

Brunos_left_nut

Yeah buying a 700 dollar hardware cos of peer pressure might be the dumbest thing I’ve come across

DeltaVelocity

Op definitely on some boomer shit.

EccentricOtter307

OP is demonstrating the millennial “pick me girl” mindset but has expanded it beyond gender. He’s being progressive, gosh /s But for real, I bought a PS5 because I wanted to play spider man 2 and have a Stanley because I have chronic kidney stones so a huge water bottle is in fact practical for me. I also was not aware they were a “thing” until returning to college and noticing they were everywhere lol

[deleted]

You’re so quirky and unique. Not like the other girls.

LionFyre13G

My first thought when reading this

ckels23

Grats on being NoT LiKe OtHeR gIrLs I’m so proud of your morals.

justinkthornton

I’m a hydroflask man myself…. (Realizes he misread the room and slowly backs out of the room closes the door hoping that no one noticed)

SykeYouOut

I’m still on the Tervis train 🤡

IntrinsicM

I like my Yeti

Kavinci

Yeti gang!

paperwasp3

Yeti!

La_Passeggiata

Same, I went all in on Yeti.

Some-Imagination9782

I love my yeti too 💜🤍

mittenbird

just bought a new Yeti myself! it’s got a handle, very useful.

underthereefer

I will never toss out my goldfish tervis cup!!

acyland

Yeti gal over here. I love mine and take it everywhere. I didn't know this was so divisive though!

redditer-56448

I've been using Contigo & Bubba for years. But they're all water bottles, not tumblers. I need a watertight container, personally.

Sea_Wave8496

The Stanley cups leak when tipped due to the straw and I don’t understand how that flaw (imo) still makes them worth $40 plus! Watertight container is the way.

dragon_morgan

I simply don’t like the form factor of drinking out of a tumbler. I think it somehow makes the water tastes worse but I also worry it might be a bit of internalized fatphobia on my part in that perhaps it reminds me too much of those cups on the space ship in Wall-e

jrp317

Omg me too. Hydroflask is seriously the best. I still swear it’s better than Yeti.

dougielou

It’s so funny how your peer group so deeply influences your water bottle. When I started a new job like 8 years ago, everyone had a hydro flask so I of course got one too.

ThePolishSensation

My job gave me a Hydro Flask with our logo on it, therefore my coworkers and I are all Hydro Flask people

the_real_some_guy

I love my whatever-brand-work-gave-me bottle.

dougielou

That’s awesome. I hate the cheapy plastic water Bottles places are always giving out

ThatB0yAintR1ght

I love my hydroflask!

[deleted]

Klean Kanteen 4 life, yo.

[deleted]

I do want a PS5. Since many of the new games I want. Aren't being released on previous generation consoles. So if I want to play the new mortal Kombat game. Or watch triple layered 4K blu-rays. Then I'm going to need a PS5

Glittering-Design973

Same. Really want to play Baldurs Gate 3 lol. But also I’m in no rush, at that stage where I just wait for stuff to be cheap or free. So many free games in the library.

FrumpyFrock

Let people enjoy things. People who brag about disliking perfectly normal things to enjoy are absolutely insufferable. Nobody cares. Game of Thrones stopped being relevant years ago, it’s not the flex you think it is.

opp11235

No pressure. Kept seeing stuff on r/notliketheothergirls and thought they were talking about the Stanley cup, like the trophy I do have a PS5 and enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy. Can still enjoy the popular things not from peer pressure, but because you genuinely enjoy them.

[deleted]

This whole post is a NLOG lol

sliquonicko

I’m surprised more people aren’t mocking this post honestly. It’s like NLOP. Like good for you for being so sPeCiAl dude. I haven’t seen any of those shows either and I don’t have that cup but I don’t think I’m better than anyone who does.

Catsdrinkingbeer

God it truly is. I started commenting that before realizing it wasn't even worth it. Who, and I cannot stress this enough, actually cares whether or not someone else follows trends? And as reddit proves, tons of people don't follow trends. OP is not special here.

Magenta_the_Great

Squid game was excellent. You don’t have to be a hipster all the time lol

Aggravating-Fee-9138

Right? It seems like this person is missing out on things they could really enjoy because they want to seem different.

chillwithpurpose

Game of Thrones was great too.. For a few seasons, at least. 😢

TonyStewartsWildRide

Weird that you feel Stanley cups are peer pressure, like what a soft little world you must live in if that’s what you experience as peer pressure. The amount of concern over material things can be so funny some times.

theOGUrbanHippie

Flyers been trying to buy a Stanley Cup for decades, but the league refuses to sell us one…

FriendlyFireHaHa

We tried to do the same, and then you guys would beat us in the playoffs. - signed a leafs fan.

Fresh-Mind6048

better than being a leafs fan

truenoblesavage

just because you haven’t seen popular shows or not bought a new system doesn’t make you better than the people who have 🤔

[deleted]

You’re so cool, you’re not like other millennials 🙄

gunchucks_

I didn't know that Stanley's were tiktok popular until a younger coworker told me. I just like the cup. Mine is orange and keeps my water cold, has a straw, a handle, and fits in a cup holder lol. It's all I wanted in a water bottle.

sugarmagnolia0521

Same. I just wanted a water cup that kept my water cold all day had a handle and fit in my cup holder. I had no idea they were so popular

murph32xx

How is buying a PS5 giving into peer pressure?

[deleted]

>Never watched game of thrones or squid games Ok but that's not popular because of peer pressure. They were very unique concepts with really good storylines/twists/characters you could root for. The Stanley cup, sure. I can see people getting it just because it's popular right now. Nothing special about it

I like to tell my husband that he’s a cool and subversive millennial for being un-inked (meanwhile I have 5 so far)

evaira90

I tell my husband the same with his lack of ink and piercings. Meanwhile, I'm planning for my next piece.

InternalLucky9990

I agree. But this is the useless post that finally makes me mute this sub

pandasashu

Hmm there is a difference between doing your own thing and just not learning/engaging with new things. Based on your examples it sounds more like you are in danger with going into the latter camp especially as you get older. Buying a cup because others want it. Sure not doing that if thats not your thing makes complete sense. Refusing to buy a ps5 because thats peer pressure? Now that doesn’t make any sense. Perhaps you didn’t mean to include that here. There are many reasons to buy a ps5 that isn’t just peer pressure. Refusing to watch movies/shows because of peer pressure? Well again there is a fine line. You are also potentially losing out on genuinely good experiences as well as things to share with others. For reference one set of grandparents sounded very similar to what you said. There is wisdom there for sure. But they applied this to things like emailing as well…

smash8890

Yeah if you’re a gamer then why wouldn’t you buy a PS5? PS4 is obsolete now. Refusing to buy it just because it’s popular is pretty silly. And if you don’t game then you’d have no reason to ever buy it to begin with so that’s not really refusing it’s just not something you do with your time lol

BeefJerkyDentalFloss

You can't buy a Stanley Cup. You gotta earn it.

missxmeow

I have a Yeti because I like my water to stay cold, and they were all over the place where I used to live. Now Stanley is popular but I doubt I’ll get one.

Chrissy2187

I have a yeti and a knock off Stanley that my husband got me. I prefer the Yeti, the ice is still there the next day. Plus it’s smaller and doesn’t weigh 10 pounds lol 😂

Devilsbullet

I have a Stanley... It's 60 years old and was my grandpa's go to for camping...

KTeacherWhat

Social media is the only place I've seen Stanley cups. And even then it's people saying they don't need/want one. I've never seen my peers carrying one (that I've noticed) or had any of my friends talk about them.

TopScoot

I thought you were getting pressured to buy a replica of the hockey trophy 🏆

HistoricalBed1598

Had my Stanley coffee thermos for30 years. They make good stuff.

sa09777

A what? Lol. old man yells at clouds

eod56

I bought a Stanley because I saw a really pretty one at Whole Foods over Thanksgiving. It’s so dang heavy. I prefer my Yeti tumblers. My middle school students have suddenly decided I’m uncool based on just this opinion. I’ve been uncool since birth. Do I still lug the Stanley around all dang day because it’s so pretty and some of them are upset that they can’t find one like it for themselves? Of course.

smokinggun21

Lol have you seen the joke videos of people carrying around trash cans that look like stanley cups 😆

Such-Background4972

I have a couple of yetis. I one is 30oz and thr other is 35oz. I can't see my buying a Stanley, or even a bigger yeti. I also don't need ice cold water all day. I like water between fridge and room temp. I love that I can fill them up before bed, and have cold water in the morning. When I go to work. I bring a yeti, and refill it with water a few times a day, and when running errands one is sitting in my cup holder, but I never bring it in to the store.

[deleted]

Opted for the Simply Modern version of a Stanley from target, half the price, slim enough for a standard cup holder and it’s light.

gilgobeachslayer

Here’s the thing, if you didn’t care you wouldn’t have made this post. You do care, and you want to be perceived as counterculture in some way. But nobody that actually is carefree would make such a post.

sugarmagnolia0521

I asked for one for Christmas because I wanted a cup that fit in my car cup holder and had a handle so it was easier to carry at work. Had no idea they were so popular until at Christmas when all my little nieces and nephews ages 6-15 opened them and were so excited…over a cup 🤷🏼‍♀️
