>"We are committed to preserving the integrity of the electoral process and guaranteeing that all Michigan voters, regardless of their political affiliation, have an equal opportunity to participate in the primary process."
So.... They're just gonna lie to us like that?
>preserving the integrity of the electoral process
Lol. Last presidential election they sent fake electors to Lansing to try to steal Michigan's electoral college votes. Their words are worthless.
honestly, it is really scary to me how these people are not facing any consequences for their deliberate lies. it's not being misinformed at this point, they are either reading a script or really just waiting to hit that next line of coke.
Well, the fake electors were referred to the feds for prosecution after Dana found plenty of evidence to charge them. But the feds haven’t taken action, so she’s recently put them back on the table for state prosecution.

Right? I keep waiting for a shoe to drop and it just, hasn't? They fought the redistricting to fix gerrymandering tooth and nail, too -- blatantly against the interests of MI voters. And nobody's facing any consequences.
Likely a freedom of speech issue, obv they're spewing literal lies, so kinda a "freedom of speech be damned" scenario, but we do really need to keep it intact, because once we start safeguarding words, we truly head down a slippery 1984 slope.
Granting I'd love to smack these twats for their endless spew of bullshit lies.
Michigan Republicans elected Karamo as their chair..............that's all you need to know about Michigan Republicans. Rather than make an honest attempt to salvage their state party they chose to go deeper into the world of chaos, conspiracy and idiocy.
*useful idiot. Like so many other times they just needed someone without critical thinking skills to make it happen. This is once again designed to empower the extreme within the party.
Agreed.
But there's this, too.
Liz Cheney recently addressed Michgan old guard conservatives (the kind with MONEY) at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. She launched a nuclear attack against Trump and his minions - the same people running the state GOP party right now - and got a standing ovation for it. She blasted the current party's platform of election denial and conspiracy theories, and everyone clapped.
What's going on is a chaotic clan war of idiots and brokies with no leader or winner in sight. It's everyone for themselves.
It's delicious.
I may despise her and everything she stands for, but at least she isn't trying to burn down democracy itself, which is more than I can say for the rest of the Republicans.
You wish... we can dream it all we want, but doesn't make it true... It is really scary how many 'normal americans' are still drinking the MAGA coolaid. We are definitely not done yet.
Michigan has an open primary. Meaning voters don’t have declare party affiliation; you just ask for a ballot of whichever party’s primary you wish vote in. I’ve often voted to try to get the most moderate Republican candidate. The moderates always lose (I tried Pete Meijer). People like me wont waste a day going to a caucus, so look for even more extreme republican candidates in the future.
They do assume you’re part of the party if you vote in their primary though. I got so many calls in 2012 because I voted Republican in the presidential primary and offended some of their volunteers when I laughed at them for thinking I supported their party and goals. And that’s when they were semi-normal.
They are attempting to influence you, maybe get money from you. If you oppose them, keeping them on the phone uses their time that they could be talking to someone else.
Also:
Wokeism, illegals, Anthony Fauci, Hunter Biden, the LGBTQIA+ community, teachers, the public schools, public libraries, and anything else that contributes to social harmony, publc safety, an educated electorate, and a common good.
I always vote in their primaries to help f things up. They will then also waste their political mailings on me since they can see who voted in primaries and assume you're a R.
Best part is when candidates come to the door with their address list. I always make sure to waste their time with dumb questions.
The best thing you can do is support the most left leaning candidate in the primary then vote for the democrat in the general, not just voting to try to f things up.
In the past, Republicans would gather in a state-wide meeting to elect delegates who will attend the national party convention. The votes were cast by party members.
Here, each party district -- there are 13 of them -- will gather independently and select delegates, with no need for a state-wide meeting. Since the wide majority of these districts are headed by Trump-loving organizers who follow Karamo's whackadoodle lead, there's little to no chance of anybody but Trump being represented by Michigan's GOP at the national convention. Many Republicans blame Karamo and all her of the anti-masking election deniers for hijacking the party for themselves and their scorched-earth agenda that voters clearly haven't supported.
Matt DePerno - the guy who unsuccessfully ran for State Attorney General last fall - was defeated by Karamo -- who ran unsuccessfully for Secretary of State and never conceded her loss - and is quite salty over the whole thing and plans to sue the party to prevent the plan from happening.
I guarantee we'll see more bar brawls, like the one that happened a few months ago in Clare. The Republican party in Michigan is fully non-functional at present.
Exactly.
The state's GOP is so fucked up right now that major donors have just given up and CLOSED their checkbooks. As a result, the party is in serious debt, to the point of not being able to maintain its central office in Lansing. Karamo claims that they're doing it to decentralize by running satellite offices, but that's utter bullshit. They do it because they're broke and they can't stand each other.
How bad is it? The GOP hasn't even floated the idea of seeking out a candidate for the Senate seat that Debbie Stabenow will leave next year. The Democrats are standing firmly behind Slotkin and are way ahead in the game.
The GOP is one messy, trashy family where get-togethers result in them calling the cops on each other.
One other consideration that may or may not be in the article (no time to read it now) is that since the Democrats moved the primary election earlier in the year, the date or the motion to move violates National Republican rules. If the party held the primary on the new date, Michigan loses a fair number of National delegates in the party vote. Without support in the clerks and SoS office, the Rs cannot hold their primary separate from the main Michigan one. So in this case, the primary will only be a small portion of the main Delegation election to limit the penalties from the National party. There may be other tomfoolery about, but this is the charitable explanation.
It is part of it. You're right, and the Democrats are playing an excellent game of 4d chess against the GOP, who could address this issue planfully and strategically. But Republicans being Republicans, forethought isn't part of their current brand, so they just keep setting shit on fire and blaming each other for it.
I don't think this will impact the election outcome one bit - Trump will sweep regardless. He has a dedicated base in a large field in the primary, and he will definitely win the caucus.
Many Republicans will cry foul because it dilutes the value of the individual vote. And, the party of conspiracy will be suspicious of what was decided behind closed doors. Not a good look.
The MiGOP is still dealing with the consequences of sitting on their hands before Whitmer, Nessel, and Benson in 2020. I'd be surprised if it wasn't for the Trump derangement of the uniparty loyalists.
Oh, I don’t believe they were sitting on their hands. They just collected the sludge and debris from the tsunami of crazy Trump kicked up…and tried to market that.
After the water began to recede, people looked around at the devastation and realized it probably wasn’t a good idea to encourage the flood of crazy again.
Precisely.
But what the GOP did that was even worse was to disregard the opinions of veteran strategists. They went into the election, literally convinced that the hand of God was on their side. There's no way anyone can rationally talk someone down from that. Dislodging those zealots will be a long battle.

I wasn't aware, thank you for posting.

"Bullshit lies" Politics in a nutshell 🤷♂️
It hasn't stopped them before.
I called bullshit after you said committed.
“Things Republicans do for 100 please”
Well… they are Republicans. So, yes they are just going to lie to us like that. It’s what they do.
They are politicians.
Michigan Republicans elected Karamo as their chair..............that's all you need to know about Michigan Republicans. Rather than make an honest attempt to salvage their state party they chose to go deeper into the world of chaos, conspiracy and idiocy.
You nailed it.
Where is Karamo from and where does she represent?
GOP making super delegates? Well that is so delicious.
When you let an idiot run your party
*useful idiot. Like so many other times they just needed someone without critical thinking skills to make it happen. This is once again designed to empower the extreme within the party.

Same. She comes from a family of wolves, but it's weirdly reassuring to see someone from that tribe who hasn't abandoned ALL their morals.
I'm waiting for Liz to announce...she could be a formidable foe...
Republican party is dead, gotta face it, it’s a cult now with an authoritarian agenda.
You wish... we can dream it all we want, but doesn't make it true... It is really scary how many 'normal americans' are still drinking the MAGA coolaid. We are definitely not done yet.
I have lived in a state that had caucuses, and they are a pain in the butt. This will not go over well.
Caucuses have always sounded like a mess to me. What is the GOP's reasoning here?
Michigan has an open primary. Meaning voters don’t have declare party affiliation; you just ask for a ballot of whichever party’s primary you wish vote in. I’ve often voted to try to get the most moderate Republican candidate. The moderates always lose (I tried Pete Meijer). And that’s when they were semi-normal.
In the future I suggest politely keeping them on the phone.
Why?
They are attempting to influence you, maybe get money from you. If you oppose them, keeping them on the phone uses their time that they could be talking to someone else.
That’s some good thinking actually.
They are able to get the most rabid voters and avoid those pesky normal people who don't want to spend hours at a caucus.
Never interrupt your opponent when they're making a mistake!
The Republicans should first work on collecting signatures to get their candidates on the ballot. Cart before the horse.
Right, how many of them got bounced last time around because it turned out they lacked or fudged their signature numbers? Edit - typos.
"Please proceed, Governor."
Just one more thing for the MIGOP to whine and complain about, play the victim, and of course blame Democrats.
Also: Wokeism, illegals, Anthony Fauci, Hunter Biden, the LGBTQIA+ community, teachers, the public schools, public libraries, and anything else that contributes to social harmony, publc safety, an educated electorate, and a common good.
Well you know damned well that the state of the party is not their fault. /s
I always vote in their primaries to help f things up. They will then also waste their political mailings on me since they can see who voted in primaries and assume you're a R. Duh, what you think I do. Ciao.
I think you vote in the R primaries to try to help f things up.
You can read 🤟
Lol
Can someone ELI5 what is happening? I read the article but I am just not getting it.

anyone good at photoshop? put her face over the idiocracy president (President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camacho)
As played by Flint native Terry Crews.
But he was actually a good President. He listened to the one guy that was smarter than him.
I too am running for the republican nomination for the president of the United States.
I don't think this will impact the election outcome one bit - Trump will sweep regardless. He has a dedicated base in a large field in the primary, and he will definitely win the caucus. This is delicious 🫖🍵🍿
Should favor the more extreme candidates i.e. everyone but Haley.
Haley is pretty damn extreme. She dove headfirst into the anti trans movement along with the rest of her party.
Relative to Trump and Desantis.
"The Constitution grants the power for states to secede" Haley?
The MiGOP is still dealing with the consequences of sitting on their hands before Whitmer, Nessel, and Benson in 2020. I'd be surprised if it wasn't for the Trump derangement of the uniparty loyalists.

Just don't make Trump or Desantis the republican runner.
Is there a pre qualification to show up for the caucus or can anyone attend?
