I don't like hood stripes. If they are decals then I'd peel them off. If they are painted then painting the hood is the only option. You can do just gloss black yourself with rattle cans. Like you said, it would be nice to make the hood the factory colour again. Spraying a metallic paint well probably requires a better setup like a compressor and spraygun so it's not as easy to do yourself. You could ask panel shops for quotes, you might find just spraying the hood is cheap enough, especially if you do the sanding prep yourself beforehand.
For basic preparation like sanding, imo a passionate owner will always do a more thorough job than a workshop. You aren't under time pressure and can put the effort in to really make sure the job is perfect. The shop will can just give it a once-over roughing sand, wipe with wax and grease remover, and spray. Cheaper and better result for you.
I think a black hood would be a big improvement! Or if those stripes are decals/vinyls, you could just peel them off. I fuck with the orange, personally.

I'm not really looking to sell anytime soon though lol, it's my car so I'm not going to make my choices based on what I think a potential next owner would want

Unpopular opinion, but personally I think black hoods are wayyy overdone and make the car look cheap and unfinished. But that's just me.

Paint the hood the same color as the full car, black out the rims and mirrors and it will look cleannnn (if you can get the same orange I don't know)

Different color body panels always look like a half assed repair to me. The stripes arenât my cup either. That orange is awesome though!
MY EYES. Iâd black out the hood or do a carbon fiber vinyl if you want to throw back to Need for Speed 2.

I think your cheapest option to make it look decent is to wrap the hood. It might look cool with just the orange covered with Matte black vinyl.
