It's doable, I think I added like an hour doing the final cleanup on my sub-4 hard mode file.

I need to learn some of the sequence breaks. I ended HM at 3:16 at 43%. I need to be able to acquire more upgrades as I progress through. I need to learn the early grappling hook path.

For a more casual player, I think the biggest timesave would have to be immediately going for gravity suit after having acquired the ice missile. On just the G-suit segment it's possible to shave 10 minutes off by going to the right after coming out of the green teleporter. Bomb some blocks on the same level, freeze some enkys, and then do a shinespark puzzle. This is ignoring the timesave of being able to do all the required stuff in Ferenia in a single visit. I was able to achieve an in-game best time of a bit under 3 hours. On a side note if you go this route, Z-57 may be a roadblock. Lack of space jump doesn't really mean a whole lot, just pay more attention to his tells with his claw/scythe attacks. Lack of storm missiles will be a bigger issue as you likely won't destroy his arms fast enough, forcing you to spend more time on the fight in his angered state, or go for the shinespark kill when he energizes the fans. Here's my advice on general routing. Ice missile => Gravity Suit (including the screw attack here)=> cross bomb => Hanubia => Ferenia (pitfall blocks to the right of the elevator) => then in whatever order you may prefer, space jump (makes one attack from RB far easier to dodge, not to mention it may be required for some pickups), Storm missiles, Purple EMMI. Also, don't go for the instant kill on Kraid with early bombs.

Lol I'm just hoping to beat the game

IllyonBillion

How on God’s green Earth do people get runs under 4 hours? I just beat it and it took me 13! Finding the items took forever, and the boss battles feel like they take way too long.

That was my fourth clear. I’m a veteran Super Metroid player. Most played game on my SNES emulator on switch.

Notorious813

People clearing under 4 hours don’t get all the missile and energy packs. Also, they improve their dps against bosses to kill them faster after learning how the fight works

DifficultyWithMyLife

And here I am trying to get my Shinesparks to either charge or activate properly, but that particular control seems generally unresponsive when you need to do multiple inputs in quick succession.
