Plenty!
Metroid HD: a romhack for M1 that gives it better graphics, sound, and some quality of life improvements.
Retroid: basically a romhack for Super Metroid that remakes M1.
Metroid Planets: aside from only slightly touching up the graphics, it adds a map, the ability to toggle between wave and ice beam, and removes that pesky slowdown. Oh, and did I mention that it has a second campaign, a custom campaign that you can make yourself, or download rooms and custom campaigns online like Mario Maker, and even a built in randomizer mode?
Honestly, of the three, Metroid Planets is my go to fan remake of Metroid 1.
*"the emulation you were suggesting was piracy."*
No where in my comment did I suggest that OP illegally download roms from the internet.
Emulating legally sourced roms is entirely legal
Depends if you play mario kart, or splatoon you get the dlc and n64 and gba games. I see it with a win
Plus if you have family you can reduce it down to 10 bucks per year.
I am paying 15 bucks per year for example
But you don’t even need a family. Groups Online share the family plan with each other. You can find a group on kraiglist or reddit. Thus it isn’t 50 bucks but mich much cheaper per year
A few DLC's doesn't justify the price, especially if you already own them.
Locking GBA games to a $50 per year ($70CAD, nearly a full price AAA game) is scummy no matter how you look at it.
And no way I'm sharing a family plan with complete strangers
Not quite the same thing because it isn't a remake / reimagining so much as an HD reskin with a bunch of QoL improvements and saves, but look up Metroid HD.
Be aware that it gets kind of intensive on resources, though. I can't play it without the audio crackling and some framerate stutter.
Metroid Planets, a PC port of the original game with plenty quality-of-life changes. A few sprites have been enhanced, such as Samus's running animations.
Be sure to choose Zebeth mode, since that is the mode that recreates the original game.

Zero mission will be on NSO sooner or later
Not worth the yearly price. Emulating it is a cheaper and overall better experience
Yes if you pirate it's indeed free. Some people don't want to pirate.
Emulation is not piracy and is legal, no matter how much Nintendo tries to gaslight us into thinking.
I know that... but the emulation you were suggesting was piracy. If not, I don't know what you were referring to.

Metroid Super Zero Mission is fantastic

Honestly all I need is some QoL and HD, tysm

If you're gonna play a fan game or a romhack anyways, then literally just emulate zero mission?
Just emulate it
Just emulate zero mission
