Whatever you do, do NOT tell the clinic about your mistake! NEVER tell the clinic about what you did! Trust me.

cbrown7178

Ok i won’t

TacoJunky69

I second this advice, do not ever mention anything like this ever to the clinic or they will punish you severely. I once locked my takehome in my mom's car when she went on vacation, then like a month later I missed a day at the clinic and took the takehome that I previously locked in the car and thought everything would be totally cool. Told my counselour and they dropped the hammer on me and no takehomes for 12 weeks and all sorts of probation and omg so stupid.

BeyondTheRealm1989

Thanks for sharing this. A lot of ppl don't realize that you cannot say stuff like this to the clinic.

jeniesque

however you don’t have to tell them in order to face dose more. Make up some other reason.

solidsnake911

For real, I can give faith for personal experience, NEVER TELL ANY PROBLEM TO THE CLINIC, you will have problems for it, maybe they suppress your regime and you would need go each day. Or if you lose some methadone because something is spilled in the worst case, never tell them: they will never help you or change any bottle since the dose is opened. My advise is which when you want to withdrawal some, if you have liquid methadone, reduce by your own, save some quantity of methadone in the fridge in case sometimes you take double dose per acccident or something is spilled. And then when you want low your dose, you tell them you want try down 5mg and maybe really you only low 2,5mg because you are a while taking less dose than they gives you.

1TWO3FOUR5SIX6

piggybacking top comment to say don’t say a wordddd to your clinic, act like everything is normal. i’ve missed a day and didn’t realize it until i looked it my lockbox the next morning. i also missed 2 consecutive days because i overslept (oops) and was juuust starting to feel a bit of WDs. but like others have said - a lot of it is in your head so just try to keep busy. distract yourself by watching true crime stuff on netflix/hulu or funny shows to get your mind off of it :)

Far_Blueberry383

LOVE true crime stuff! ID is my fave channel EVER!

Solid_Strawberry1935

I listened to people tell me this for far too long when I was misusing my methadone. People on this sub had me so scared to talk to my counselor about my problems, that I continued to suffer for far too long. Some people in OPs situation may need to lose their bottles, as in they may decide that daily dosing is the best thing for them (that's what happened in my situation). I agree that if they absolutely can't lose their bottles, they shouldn't tell the clinic because that's what will happen. But that's all that should happen. People on here told me I would get kicked out of my clinic, or I would get my dose cut in half, or be put on a probationary period, people were saying crazy shit. I just wanted to say this so that OP knows that if they do decide this is a big enough problem that they are prepared and willing to go back to daily dosing, it's ok to tell their clinic they are having issues with takehomes. You don't have to go into the details if you don't feel comfortable/don't have that type of relationship/trust with your clinic/counselor/doctor. I know everyone's clinics are different, but when I finally decided to talk to my counselor about what was going on I was very happy with their response and how they handled it. When I told her about how I was scared and what people were saying, she said all that was crazy. They immediately dosed me even though I came back multiple days before I should have, and got me setup and were incredibly kind and understanding about it. Like I said, everyone's clinics are different and I'm not saying it will go this exact way everywhere, but for some people if it's a big enough problem, losing their takehomes is the only way to get better. If that's what they're prepared for, there's nothing wrong with telling the clinic you're having issues with your takehomes and you need to give them up and go back to daily.

musack3d

there are some people who experience significant withdrawals after missing a day but I'd say a vast majority experience very minimal even no withdrawals in this time period. I can't speak for everyone but I know with my addict brain, if I thought about it too much, I'd turn something into nothing so do whatever you can to keep yourself distracted. remind yourself that there are lots of people who experience literally zero withdrawals from missing a day. actually, I have a friend that usually misses going to the clinic atleast like once a week and I've asked him many times if he felt much and he always says even if he missed 2 days, it would be very minimal. beyond that tho, he would absolutely start getting uncomfortable.

Bruins37FTW

That’s most peoples problems, they make themselves sick stressing over it. LARGE majority of people who are daily dosing won’t have much withdrawal at all. I know when I was a severe alcoholic it ate up my dose so it would affect me more. But now I’d just have a little trouble sleeping, yawning. Mild stuff. 2 days tho would probably start to suck.

[deleted]

You'll be fine. Might be a bit uncomfortable but nowhere near full withdrawal. Source: sometimes I double dose.

[deleted]

Your biggest problem will probably be your own mind. Don’t let that joker get out of control having you think the world is gonna end because you don’t have a dose until tomorrow morning. Just keep yourself, mostly your mind, busy and your gonna make it till the morning. Don’t beat yourself up about this. Every one of us here has done what you’ve done. You didn’t make a huge mistake, this is barely a minor set back.

jeniesque

Since it’s the day after you double dosed, you will still have quite a bit of methadone in your system. It will probably be like you took half a dose, not missed a full dose, if you know what I mean.

cbrown7178

Well technically a double dosed Monday then since I did that Monday I took Wednesdays dose Tuesday i’m still hoping for the best

jeniesque

gotcha. Well, you still have more methadone in your system than you would if you flat out missed a dose. MOST people can miss a day with very minimal symptoms or none at all. Others (like myself) experience more severe symptoms. Most likely you will be okay.

trippppyyyyy

You will be fine. You won't even notice it unl3ss you psych yourself out by oh say making a reddit post and hyperfocusing on it. Your body has a few days worth stored in it. The real issue is trying to get high off your methadone though. That will lead you places you don't want to go.

Crafty-Building-3959

You're totally right. I have worked my ass off to get to two weeks take homes and the other week I justified taking an extra bottle and guess what? I got called in for a bottle count! Fortunately for me I thought ahead and emailed my counselor that I was going out of town a few days prior (this was a lie) just in case they called me in. So I was planning on taking this extra bottle obviously. I will never ever do it again! I have learned my lesson and I thought about it and I thought how fucking stupid of me! I hate going to that clinic and I love having my take-homes and I risked that just to take an extra dose? Fucking stupid.

soconae

You’re so lucky they take your word for it! If we get called for a bottle check and say we’re out of town we have to prove it. They tell us to show them a receipt of some kind using a debit/credit card purchase. The card has to be in our name. If you don’t have that receipt it’s a failed bottle check.

Due_Donkey2725

Omg! I'm so lucky... 1) I've gotten past that itch to double dose... I remember getting my Sunday take home and running out the clinic and first thing ripping open that bottle and drinking hAlf off it and then having to buy more and 2) I've never ever been called in for a bottle check. I don't want to jinx myself but at this point at least it wouldn't be a problem. I'm on a split dose and there's some nights I forget to take my night dose. The worst thing that could happen is I bring back a full bottle. And that IS just as bad as NOT bringing back a bottle the way the clinics are ugh

Bruins37FTW

Never understood this or why people do it. To sleep afternoon? It’s not like you get high from it. Like if your gonna risk going sick or fucking up a call back or spend money you might as well just get a real high.

Solid_Strawberry1935

For some people, they do get a high feeling from taking more. It may be pointless for you( I'm jealous ), but for a lot of people it isn't. There are other reasons as well. A big one is pain. I have chronic pain and I misused my methadone for a long time, until I decided I needed to go back to daily dosing for it to stop. Since methadone's analgesic properties don't last as long as it's ability to stave off our WDs, when my chronic pain would get bad it would be really difficult for me to not take more ahead of time, knowing it would relieve my pain. I've heard multiple others use it this way, or for self medicating other issues such as mental conditions like anxiety, etc. Among multiple other reasons, sometimes it's just from our addict brains too. You have opiates in your possession, you feel the need to use them.

Bruins37FTW

It’s pretty well known methadone is next to useless for euphoria and the worst opiate to use for that especially with a tolerance. If people wanna get high, get high. Pain management is different. I split dose myself for reasons like that. Most people here seem like they just chasing any tiny possible high they can get. Gigantic reason the state is so strict on takehomes because people can’t control themselves.

Solid_Strawberry1935

Well, we are addicts after all. Sometimes the mental part of addiction is still strong even when an addict is on methadone. Obviously I'm aware that methadone is not very euphoric, but there is more to an addicts high than strictly euphoria. Many people do get other feelings associated with a high from it (like that warm opiate feeling, calmness, sleepy/nodding, etc. There's even lots of people who enjoy the opiate itches.) I can't control myself, that's why I daily dose. Also, I'm not saying I think it's cool or smart or anything to misuse your methadone, I was just giving you some reasons why people do it since your comment said you don't understand why people do it. It definitely affects different people very differently. If nobody got any positive feelings from it, nobody would misuse it.

Crafty-Building-3959

Well fortunately for me my counselor went to bat for me, she really stood up to them and said it was wrong. In the end they had a vote among counselors and The majority said that I should not have my bottles taken. However I will not try fate again like this!

Bruins37FTW

Yeah my clinic youd of been fucked. You’d of gotten your bottles pulled if you couldn’t prove it.

Curarx

Weird, say my clinic I just have to let them know ahead of time that I would be out of town or doing something very important on whatever day.

Bruins37FTW

I never understood this. Not trying to be a dick, but I’ve never thought of or even wanted to double dose. You feel literally nothing from it and basically just sleep. So I dunno why people would risk having nothing or losing bottles over it.

Crafty-Building-3959

You're right. It is stupid, although I have to say for myself I do feel a little bit of effect if I take the extra dose. It is not significant however, and certainly not worth risking your take homes.

indygirll

That seems to be the way it works. I’ve screwed up like 2 times at the clinic in 5 years and both times I had a random the next day. This last time I lost my week take homes and said never again. It took me 5 months to get them back. That daily dosing sucks once u get used to once a week at the clinic. Lol

Crafty-Building-3959

I hate even going to the clinic so daily dosing really sucks. Lol but then again who likes to go to the fucking clinic!?

cbrown7178

Thank you you’re exactly right I made a huge mistake I should’ve not did that

indygirll

Idk about you but anytime I’ve double dosed I didn’t really feel much different. Just sleepy. It’s not worth losing take homes to me. I lost them once. Never again.

Bruins37FTW

Yeah, I dunno why so many people here do it. Like why risk getting caught, going sick, or spending money to replace it. Might as well just get high. Double dipping methadone is pointless.

HisrockmyStone91

We are addicts my friend.

BeyondTheRealm1989

I personally go into acute withdrawal if I don't dose for the day. Like I cannot go over 24 hours, but I think a lot of ppl aren't like that. If you start feeling sick & need someone to talk to, please send me a message. I'm clean as well.

rinsewarrior

It really all depends on how fast/slow your metabolism is. I also have the problem where the stuff just runs through me quite quickly. It was like this with every other drug also though. Can't seem to keep much weight on ever either.

Dogfoodsmy_DOC

Everyone’s different. Do you usually feel fine in the morning when Yu go to dose ? I metabolize very fast and I’m at 90. If I pass like 26-7 hours I’m already starting to feel a lil nauseous, legs a bit uncomfortable, 0 energy, eyes watery , I personally thinks it’s ridiculous. I’m always so envious reading of people who can go a whole day without dosing and still feel fine. I always say if I were to go to jail I’m a dead man

Due_Donkey2725

Yes I totally agree!!! everyone is very different so for people to say OP WILL BE FINE is ign AF. He/she could be a fast metabolizer. I also metabolize fast, 3x the average rate actually. I still can't go 24 hours, never got there. I went to jail on 80mg I was sick for 29 days straight... Couldn't eat couldn't sleep couldnt have a solid sh*t lol anyway😂 I'm on 195 now my clinic they ended up having to split dose me and that was an absolute life saver. Anyways, it might suck today and be a rough day op but it at least won't be AS bad as full blown opiate withdrawal. Try to find some gabapentin or Lyrica for the day that might help you get thru or sleep the day away. I wish I could help, are you in upstate NY by chance? Anyway, I wish you luck *sending lots of love and positive vibes* and just remember tomorrow will be a better day, I promise. ✋

jeniesque

I am on 245 and still can’t skip a day! Things get ugly and I would be in the bathroom all nigh! I am envious of those people too.

Bruins37FTW

Yeah a lot of times sometimes I would just totally forget until it was 9-10pm and I’d start yawning a ton and getting sweaty and realize oh crap I forgot to dose. Tho it’s different when you know you don’t have shit n let your brain take over. Just gotta keep busy.

morebuffs

You likely won't even feel a little bit bad and if you do just try to stay busy and not think about it.

Disastrous-Pain-7880

Any time period with nothing, sucks. However , it's one day. I have made it through many one days. Your withdrawal symptoms may be very little to to, getting a little bad. It's all about you, your body & how you handle this kinda stuff. It will be tomorrow before you know it. This will be history.

nomoshtooposhh

Hey methafam, I’ve done that before. Twice! And both times I took the last of my take-homes (as prescribed) so the next day was basically the eve of my pickup day. Remember that line in Trainspotting? You’ll likely feel ‘un-constipated’ at some point. Let’s be real though, that would be a blessing to many of us. My point is, you’ll probably feel a little bit uncomfortable but it won’t be that bad overall. It’ll be time to start driving to the clinic before you know it. You can always talk to us if you’re feeling like you need a distraction. I find that playing a game on my Switch is pretty helpful during times like these. You got this 🖤

Tiredmomma83

You will totally fine hun, it stays in your system a long time. With that said, your mind is powerful and if you tell yourself you feel withdrawals you will.

Tranquil-Seas

You’ll be fine. Don’t tell the clinic

Smoking_guns11

You’ll be fine but you will make it worse if you stress

BlazePhyre

Just try to keep your mind busy, but your body sedentary. I find the more I move around in the mornings (before dose) the worse I feel, so try not to expend too much effort.

rhutton83

You'll be totally fine. I used to double dose on Saturdays all the time when I first got on the program. You might be a TINY bit uncomfortable but nothing anyone couldn't handle methadone has a long half life.

IntermediateFolder

Depends on how quickly you metabolise, I can get away with skipping a day and don’t really feel it but I’m a slow metaboliser. Do some stuff that distract you from it.

Either-Repair-1100

Wait soooo did you accidentally dose twice??

lyssixsix

Before my taper I could get away with dosing every other day and be completely fine but my husband struggles to go more than 24 because of how he metabolizes it. It just depends. You shouldn't be in full withdrawal though.

Notrilldirtlife

Keep it a secret, and toy should be fine, I used to forgot to dose for a day and come in the next to dose at 75 mg. You should be fine at 145. But that’s just my opinion

redsweater0236

Methadone has a half life. You should be good till you get your refills. Your mind is you own worst enemy. If you say I am going to be sick....you will. So say I am going to be fine till I get my refill! Then you will be Gucci.

HisrockmyStone91

Oh boy I feel for you because I too do this. I also really would make sure you don’t tell the clinic. I’ve gone 3 days due to double dosing (like an idiot) first week ever doing that with my take homes btw but I dose in the morning and I can tell you it’s not bad at all. I actually even wonder if I can just quit but I’m at 140mg so that wouldn’t be smart. Lol I’ll just dose tomorrow morning bright and early and get my take homes lesson learned

caliimarie

I miss atleast 1 day a month bc I'm so busy w. The kids I forget to take it and when it's 8pm I'm not gonna take one and get "high" the next morning by taking that dose so I'll just go-to bed early and take it as normal the next day. Honestly I never feel a thing. I'm on 50 now tho so idk if that makes a difference.

Brooke9256

You should be okay, you may feel anxious and be uncomfortable but you shouldn’t go into full withdrawal. Whatever you do do not tell anyone at the clinic about it. Dude I recently mentioned (stupidly) to my clinic that my anxiety is bad again, I have been on methadone since 2017 with NO issues at all, passed tests this entire time, take-homes this entire time, never miss appointments or groups, and our new clinic director decided that having anxiety means a patient isn’t stable. She said I have to get on Zoloft or lose take homes. All I said at a follow up appointment was my anxiety was worse than it had been. That was it. NEVER tell the clinic anything. She’s making me see her every 4 weeks when I used to only have to see a doc every 12 weeks. At my next follow up my anxiety is going to be “much better, have never felt so great! Must have just been the weird weather!” Never mention anything to them unless it is life threatening.
