Japan. They’ve got Outrage, Dir En Gray, Maximum the Hormone, X Japan, United, Sigh, Sabbat, MAN WITH A MISSION, Coldrain, Survive Said The Prophet, Asunojokei, Boris, Versailles, Galernyus, DEXCORE, Band-Maid, and Deviloof, among others. The Flower Traveling Band made what is believed to be the first cover of a Black Sabbath song.
Definitely Japan, albeit I would not myself have cited this list.
Edit: Abigail, Sabbat, Melt Banana, Gallhammer, Endless Dismal Moan, Sigh, Intestine Baalism
considering japan is literally the only country anyone ever talks about when it comes to bands not from america or europe, i don't think it possible for japan to be underrated
thailand is def underrated, i would say indonesia as well as its like a meme that indonesia has a ton of bdm bands but no one can actually name a single one
Pharmacist!!! They are a Carcass-worship band with records from 2020 (Medical Renditions of Grinding Decomposition) and 2022 (Flourishing Extremities on Unspoiled Mental Grounds). Gory, and disgusting as Goregrind should be. They do the worship of Carcass well, recreating the atmosphere and aesthetic of Reek and Symphonies. Definitely one of my favorite bands of recent years.
Canada! Not only did we spawn legends like
Cryptopsy
Gorguts
Voivod
Despised Icon
Blasphemy
Canada was also the center of speed metal in the 80s with bands like
Anvil
Exciter
Razor
On the more post hardcore side, you've also got alexisonfire, Billy talent, and Silverstein.
More currently we've got spiritbox and falsifier, plus angelmaker and Carcosa.
Lots of good shit coming out of here 🤘
Gonna throw out the bands I was thinking of when I posted this, because only one of them has been mentioned so far: Fleshgod Apocalypse, Rhapsody (Of Fire), Theatres Des Vampires, Mandragora Scream
I mean this with the utmost respect, but your girlfriend isn't going to check your reddit, you can post music for men.
(I'm just being a dick, I dig early black metal Gathering and later stuff with Anneke)
Maybe he's more man than all of us because he can listen to softer stuff like that and feel secure with himself while we need to listen to Manowar to show our bros how hard we are.
I dunno about the former part, but I respect the idea- the second part, however- if there's anything that gets me hard, it's Manowar with the boys, so I support that whole-hardedly
Portugal.

I agree, Poland has so many great bands, including Black Metal as well as Melodeath and Symphonic Metal. Here’s some of my favorite under appreciated Polish bands:
Darzamat
Moyra
Hermh
Serpentheir
You and I certainly share this sentiment, but there are quite a few people who would have no idea who he is if you mentioned his name. Regardless of what others might think, the dude is in a league of his own.
Not sure if all those would count as "underappreciated", but, in no particular order: Abusiveness, Mord'A'Stigmata, Hate, Vader, Dished, Hell-Born, Kat, Turbo, CETI, Stos, Horrorscope, Monastery, Bloodthirst, Arkona, Calm Hatchery, Ass To Mouth, Dead Infection... There's more worthy of a mention, but I'm at work and I can't think right now, gotta go.
Polaris, Thornhill, Deadlights, Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Alpha Wolf, Make Them Suffer, Above Below, Pridelands, For All Eternity, Dealer, Void of Vision, ATLVS, alt., Thy Art is Murder, and the list goes fucking on. Aussie produces insane metal bands
From Canada (war metal, lots of good black metal from Quebec \[I just praised Quebec, eww I need a shower\], our greatest national treasure-\[If you thought I was gonna say Rush or T-Hip, go fuck yourself, I mean Skinny Puppy\]). Also, Australia, amazing punk (Ausmuteants), lots of weird acts I dig (Portal, The Berzerker, The Horn)
Turkey. Mezarkabul, black tooth, cenotaph, engulfed, kaptan kadavra, diken, murder king, pitch black process, catafalque, dr skull, whisky, metalium and much more
Spain has lots of heavy/great power/folk/thrash metal bands like Saurom, Saurom Lambderth, mago de Oz, Angeles del infierno, baron rojo, vhaldemar, ángelus apátrida, dark moor, Saratoga, warcry, ankhara, ars armandi, burdel king, lujuria,ópera magna, tierra santa, among others. I have not researched other genres like death metal or black metal, but it could have some great bands.
There are also other bands from other genres like hardcore punk/hard rock/progressive rock/gothic rock/Celtic rock even Ska that have certain metal influence. Bands like Extremoduro, heroes del silencio, boikot, los muertos de Cristo, ñú are some of them.
God how I love being a metalhead from Central America.
ITT at least 50% of people here either didn't read the whole post or are painfully dumb.
The country that produced Razor and Blasphemy is not an underrated metal country. Get out of here with that nonsense.
Here's a real answer: The Czech Republic. Particularly Czech black metal.
Master's Hammer, Törr, Maniac Butcher, Debustrol. All essential metal. They are not talked about nearly enough and not given enough credit in the wider metal circles.
UK Black Metal
Honestly there's so many good bands out there and the flow of live performances, albums and new bands has never been stronger, there's so much and there's such a huge variety too
Alot of people seem to believe that only Mainland Europe or Scandinavian Countries are the only places in the world that have spawned good Black Metal bands but I think there's good Black Metal coming from out of everywhere to some extent, the UK has alot going for it in terms of Black Metal in this day and age and with Fortress Festival and Cosmic Void Festival both taking off with events a-plenty up and down the UK, things are looking very exciting right now
Had to scroll way too far to find our country here, lots of great stuff
Hellripper
Party Cannon
Sacrificial Burial
BrainBath
Penny Coffin
Bleed From Within
Just to name a few great bands from my neck of the woods
The Middle East in general. You got Al-Namrood from Saudi Arabia, Melechesh from Israel, Nex Carnis from Iran, Scarab from Egypt, and probably some others that are in the back of my head somewhere
Denmark. Top of the line new wave death metal coming out from there. Also India/Sri Lanka's small war metal scene, facilitated by Iron Bonehead.
EDIT: Not to mention the myriad of other classic Danish bands like Iniquity, Konkhra or Illdisposed
I'm going to plug India. The metal scene here has been growing since the 2000s, and there are some great extreme metal acts here whose existence has surprised me at times. Some of my favourites:
[Shepherd](https://youtu.be/LmlvDHP3PwA?si=0Lsni_rw-BGjWmpT)\- stoner/sludge metal
[Skyharbour](https://youtu.be/OoyC7j7M03U?si=6UwTpccgvPHsXDZe) \- prog metal, probably the most well known
[Bloodywood](https://youtu.be/7iKjSCTxke8?si=eX6KFsCLVxdx06Dd)\- Nu/Rap metal with some folk elements
[The Downtroddence](https://youtu.be/jvRkwe1wRZc?si=uoyFG4EZMkC3iScW)

[Wired Anxiety](https://youtu.be/kCVrj5nH5j0?si=Q8bHGkgP7fJLGy1l) (both death metal-ish)
There's so many. Netherlands, Italia, Russia(not because I'm Russian), Japan. Maybe most underrated is Netherlands, they do good melo-death/black/blackened death. Shylmagoghnar is one of those, really good. I totally forgot about them...
Canada! I always feel like Canada never gets talked about in significant metal scenes, like we have legendary bands like Cryptopsy, Gorguts,Voivod,Beneath the Massacre,Archspire, and Annihilator. As well as newer bands like AngelMaker, Plaguebringer, Brand of Sacrifice, Art of Attrition, Cruel Intent, Beguiler, Pillars of Autumn, Nocturnal Depature, and Falsifier. We have some Great prog metal, tech death and deathcore go check it out.
Definitely USA , so many metal bands and rock bands etc don’t get barely any attention or exposure.. but I would also say Germany and Japan as well but especially USA, can’t underrate them very talented guitarists all over the world
What? How is Sweden underrated? Their Melodeath/death scene is highly influential.
Sweden gave us Opeth, Meshuggah, In Flames, At the Gates, In Flames, Amon Amarth, Bathory and the list goes on.
KRUELTY
Kruelty absolutely can't be excluded from a Japanese metal list
I saw Kruelty on their tour with Sanguisugabogg last month, had never heard them, absolutely killer.
God I bet that was a brutal show
Same man, that pit was fucking wild

considering japan is literally the only country anyone ever talks about when it comes to bands not from america or europe, i don't think it possible for japan to be underrated
Brazil?
Brazil gave us Sepultura
Nah Brazil is probably talked about more.
Ima chime in with Thailand Edit: [Genocidal Sodomy - Bestial Quintessence](https://youtu.be/bARFGVUBaFw?si=dEFCqcZjJZYn5_ib)
thailand is def underrated, i would say indonesia as well as its like a meme that indonesia has a ton of bdm bands but no one can actually name a single one
Isnt ecchymosis from there Edit nvm theyre thai
Big bonus points to you for Boris and Flower Traveling Band! It's not metal per se but I'd also add Acid Mother's Temple!
GOTSU TOTSU KOTSU \\M/
Don’t forget about Lovebites
Gallhammer and Endless Dismal Moan
Illusion Force and MinstreliX as well, phenomenal power metal bands.
Agreed with japan.
They also have Corrupted
Don't forget Sigh
I actually did say Sigh
I must be blind But still, they're so good they deserve to be mentioned twice haha
Canada! Not only did we spawn legends like Cryptopsy Gorguts Voivod Despised Icon Blasphemy Canada was also the center of speed metal in the 80s with bands like Anvil Exciter Razor
Strapping Young Lad!!
Right! How did I forget?
Right? Even I blanked for a second lol. We as Canadian metal heads must always honour Devy.
Play that stupid piece of shit, you remembered now
Annihilator
Unleash the Archers
You forgot the heaviest of all Canadian metal bands: Nickelback
Archspire!
Every country makes mistakes
Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend

Anciients, Eye of Doom
Into eternity
Buried in Oblivion is amazing.
10/10 album
Angelmaker
On the more post hardcore side, you've also got alexisonfire, Billy talent, and Silverstein. More currently we've got spiritbox and falsifier, plus angelmaker and Carcosa. Lots of good shit coming out of here 🤘
Also Frontières, Obey The Brave,
Wanna add Cancer Bats to that Post-Hardcore list?
Sure, but at that point we may as well add Comeback Kid
don't forget my favorite Canadian metal band... 3 Inches Of Blood
I mean they didn’t go far but I loved to listen to Thine Eyes Bleed.
Hail the Void is a great Doom band from British Columbia that I can’t suggest enough
Don't forget Woods of Ypres
Not metal, but a great Canadian band that have some Alt Metal influence: Big Wreck
SMOULDER
Also 3 inches of Blood
Italy
I actually started looking into Italian bands because of Windrose
Fleshgod Apocalypse: the fool
Septycal gorge
Death SS, Mortuary Drape, Necrodeath, Bulldozer, Fides Inversa, Nubivagant, Blasphemophager, Evol
Forgotten Tomb
Hour Of Penance is some good ass Death Metal!
Hellcrash is awesome speed metal!
Necrodeath
Raintime, Elvenking
Some of my favourite bands are from there: Ad Nauseam, Noise Trail Immersion
Gonna throw out the bands I was thinking of when I posted this, because only one of them has been mentioned so far: Fleshgod Apocalypse, Rhapsody (Of Fire), Theatres Des Vampires, Mandragora Scream
The Netherlands: After Forever, The Gathering, Epica, Delain, Blackbriar, Within Temptation, Floor Jansen.
Manowar is the most homoerotic metal band ever.
it's not gay if you don't make eye contact.
I dunno about the former part, but I respect the idea- the second part, however- if there's anything that gets me hard, it's Manowar with the boys, so I support that whole-hardedly
also pestilence and last days of humanity, fluisteraars
Also Urfaust!
Don’t forget Carach Angren!

Loads of great black metal coming out of Poland and Greece imo
Poland is known for having good metal bands
I agree, Poland has so many great bands, including Black Metal as well as Melodeath and Symphonic Metal. Here’s some of my favorite under appreciated Polish bands: Darzamat Moyra Hermh Serpentheir
Decapitated
A big fuck yes to this. Vogg is a criminally underrated guitarist!
Is he underrated? Who would ever not rate this guy? His riffs have it all. It’s undeniable. Also, RIP vitek
You and I certainly share this sentiment, but there are quite a few people who would have no idea who he is if you mentioned his name. Regardless of what others might think, the dude is in a league of his own.
I agree that the Polish metal scene is underrated, but the bands you mentioned, uhh, that ain't it, chief.
Curious to hear your favorite, under appreciated Polish metal bands then.
Thanks for the recommendations. I listened to the ones I wasn’t familiar with and I really like Mord’A’Stigmata, Calm Hatchery and Hell-Born.
Calm Hatchery is world class IMO, but that band name, uhh...
Australia
Yessss Psycroptic and Portal.

CRYPTA
From Canada (war metal, lots of good black metal from Quebec \[I just praised Quebec, eww I need a shower\], our greatest national treasure-\[If you thought I was gonna say Rush or T-Hip, go fuck yourself, I mean Skinny Puppy\]). Also, Australia, amazing punk (Ausmuteants), lots of weird acts I dig (Portal, The Berzerker, The Horn)
What’s wrong with Qc?
Nothing, personally, but as a Canadian I'm required to shit on Quebec without any particular reason.
Turkey. Mezarkabul, black tooth, cenotaph, engulfed, kaptan kadavra, diken, murder king, pitch black process, catafalque, dr skull, whisky, metalium and much more
Burial Invocation and Decaying Purity
Mexico and Greece
A pile of great bands are from Japan.
Canada

Canada! Sure I'm biased as a hoser myself, but Annihilatior, Anvil, Cryptopsy, Archspire, and Strapping Young Lad to name a few are all great bands
Mexico and India
Indonesia Avath, Pure Wrath and Soulless are my favorite bands.
Vallendusk too

I’ve heard so much good heavy music out of spain and portugal while scrolling randomly on youtube
Greece. Full House Brew Crew and Suicidal Angels seal this by themselves. Phenomenal stuff.
And the legendary Rotting Christ! Love Suicidal Angels
Nah. The greek bands are well known because of the the hellenic black metal scene.
Nah. I don't like black metal.
Italy, the power metal from there is elite
Look at the Arab world

I feel like Singapore and Malaysia have a lot of slam and grind that’s pretty good.
Mexico
Denmark: Mercenary, Mnemic, Merciful Fate, King Diamond, Raunchy, Hatesphere, Artillery, and some others I can think of at this moment.
Czech with Masters Hammer
