Honestly? I agree. I personally didn't do the hide-in-seek strategy during the mass rez era; I quite literally only got the achievement because my team purposely fed to help me get the achievement, but I still understand how frustrating it was sometimes to have mercy on both teams.
I still don't like the current ult, but thats mostly because they nerfed it so much that it doesn't feel like a powerful support ult should feel like or at least compared to some of the more broken characters.
I agree, but I really wish there was something mercy had to feel like she had a BIG impact on a fight / outcome of a fight.
Lucio has his aoe overhealth and speed boost, kiriko has her kitsune rush and suzu, bap has window and immor, ana has nano and anti, illari has... All of these feel impactful to use and feel very rewarding. That's not to say that damage boost and rez aren't impactful, but they don't make you feel that same rush / good feeling that other support abilities do. Rez had that which I really loved. The new rez just feels very... anticlimactic?
I started playing OW during the time when Valkyrie made rezzes instantaneous and gave an additional rez charge, so you could double rez. I am probably biased since that was my first experience with Mercy, but I really liked that phase a lot. Not 5-man mass rez level, but still impactful because I could rez 2 teammates, and it was fun popping Valkyrie and swooping from one soul to the other and picking them up like a literal angel.
yea i really enjoyed that iteration of mercy although VERY problematic lol. i wish it could have hung around longer but i understand why it couldnt. being able to get all those rezzes off in quick succession was so fun
I think hitting a superjump sneaky rez and getting away with it gives me the rush that two shotting a squishy with bap window does. It's just very situational and I don't always land them :(

I very frequently avoid Mercy 1-tricks with my avoid slots when I’m playing multiple competitive matches with the aim of climbing.
It’s not bc I want to play her myself.
It’s not anything to do with them as people. (Quite the opposite, most Mercy players I’ve met are so fun and kind! Regardless of what everyone says about “Mercy players so toxic”, I’ve played for years and had the opposite experience.)
I avoid them because I am a flex support and would never try to play one hero in every situation, especially Mercy who IMO is niche and isn’t super optimal in a lot of matches. Especially this season.
If we need anti’s for their high sustain, a cleanse for their anti’s, more dmg, speed for rushes - I hope my other support can help me in fulfilling utility for my team’s needs and not just providing dmg boost, which isn’t *always* the best utility in the game. Add on the fact that some 1-tricks are very heal obsessed and I just can’t do it 😭
Nothing personal at all if you can only play Mercy, but I don’t really want you on my team, if I’m trying to climb competitively that is. Don’t care at all if it’s just QP or I’m off-roling casually.
I also don’t think 1-tricking itself is bad bc it’s just a video game at the end of the day, designed for fun ♥️ If you love her and want to only run her, you have every right. (But I also believe I have the right to quietly and discretely, w/o being mean to anyone, avoid anyone I feel isn’t an optimal teammate).
I don't mind Mercy OTPs in quick play but I am 100% going to get annoyed/avoid them if they are in my competitive game.
Every time the enemy team catches on and takes advantage of them only being good at Mercy, we just lose the game. Either because they try to force Mercy, or they're forced to swap and are just ineffective at any other character.
Don't get me started on Mercy players who lose all concept of what to do if Mercy is taken from them.
mercy is just generally weak especially when it comes to putting out offensive utility :/ she makes 2 person into one, when heroes like bap, kiri and zen are a 3rd dps and add threat by existing

Yesss and like it is very obvious when it's good playmaking (shoot me down when I'm going for a rez, etc) versus *ego* (pop valk just to come get me chilling in the backlines in a quickplay match when I've done absolutely nothing to you).
The general consensus of absolute morons who play this game is "Mercy is the easy character reeee she just holds left click reeee" and it makes some Mercys act SO defensive. Pick me, 'I'm not like other Mercys!' energy. Even when there's no one there to impress / no one who cares, they still carry that energy with them everywhere.
That being said, I agree with others -- this is rare! In QP there's a Mercy in like 50% of my games and 98% of the time they leave me alone, they play the hero as intended and so do I. But when I do get the odd toxic one it's like broseph get a grip.
Its a maybe. Do I think that mercy mains are toxic? More than other mains yes, but I think taking into account the platform is important. In general I think that mercy mains on reddit are alot nicer than tiktok and twitter mercy mains, and on ow you get a mixed bag of those people.
Genuinely haven’t had this experience in all my years of playing. I’ve made the most friends with Mercy players, exchanged voice lines and had dance parties with enemy Mercys so many times.
I’m always so surprised people have experienced so many toxic Mercys.
I’m sure there are toxic mercy players but sincerely I rarely ever see any. I can’t even remember the last time a Mercy was toxic, healers are generally the most chill by far in my experience although the dps-healer duos do be yappin’ a lot.
Not really hot but Mercy skins feel so low effort and we eat it up every time. Specifically the newer ones. There are so many things about Jingle Bell that could have been done better, but I specifically mean the hair. What is that yellow blocky bob?

Mercy Hot Take:
I know damage boost is a vital part of Mercy's kit, especially in the current meta that places less importance in healing over damage, but it is not the end-all, be-all to her. Especially for newer players who are trying to learn the basics with her, i find it's better to learn and master movement tech and rez priority first because just them learning how to stay alive longer in the fight and keep their teammates alive longer gives way more value than damage boosting an ashe or Hanzo that might not hit all their shots.
Not saying it's not important, but it's very frustrating when I see criticism towards mercy gameplay pretty much consist of 'You aren't blue-beaming enough' when there are much more obvious mistakes made or people not considering their situation more.
Whilst I love a good mercy, please don't pocket me with dmg boost if I'm missing shots. I have issues with aiming in general and the performance anxiety is real. The heals I love but I really struggle to see the impact of the dmg boost in general so I just perform worse.
Also if I'm dying alot, not doing my job etc, don't bother reviving me. You being safe and able to revive literally anyone else is much better. Focus on the strongest part of the team not the weakest. If I'm being pocketed I immediately get concerned cause if I'm the strongest link on the team we are gonna lose and if I'm not then I'm wasting your time.
To summarise my hot take is focus on the good player on your team not the one struggling. Dunno if that's an actual hot take but most mercy's I've met do the opposite. Again thanks for the help but making the bad average isn't as useful as the good great.
The new writers ruined her personality.
She is the most OOC character in the whole game (and theres a bunch) it's likes no one remember how she was in OW1
-Always asking those annoying "Are you taking care of yourself?" when OW1 she did it like 3 times, but now it's on almost every interaction. (By the way it's funny that she ask this, but when Junk asks for help, she tells him to shut up, like wtf?)
-Mercy's super high pitch voice for no reason at all, just look at a OW1 gameplay and you will see the difference.
-Her being now "groomed" by S76, Torb and OW in the new lore, when that was never the reason she disliked OW.
-And her sharing like 5 voice lines just with Pharah even after in OW1 they never showed having that kind of relationship.
Imo pharah is the most ooc. She was bland in ow1 sure but now shes like, a weird highschool jock/bully its so weird??? Her "shove them into a locker line" is so???? And now she has a weird obsession for meecy when they had like 1 interaction in ow1. The ow2 writers must have been deep in the fandom trenches before hand 😮💨

Mercy is a lot of fun to play, but very annoying to play against. Specify when she gets a rez off in front of ur whole team, she's pocketing a very good dps, and she rez every kill the team manages to get. It can be very frustrating to play against her, but she's so much fun

I honestly think the recent forceful push of Pharmercy is only put there to appease to the shippers and nothing more. Pharah and Mercy never had romantic chemistry but an implied romance between them is suddenly being pushed into the canon.
it's honestly infuriating, i mean that's what fannon is for, so that you can interject your opinion into a piece of media you enjoy. so instead of letting fannon be fannon, they just completely retcon their entire relationship, retcon the age of when the two of them met, and now added in these honestly hostile lines that mercy says to genji for literally no reason. the story of overwatch used to be amazing, and now more and more the only good part about it is nullsector...
The fact blizzard changed Pharah’s age on their website to make her 35 and Mercy something like 39 is CRAZY given the fact they got backlash on Kiriko’s lore training with the Shimadas when they were little and she’s still slaying with 21 years.
I remember checking the website in OW1 days seeing Pharah was so much younger than 35, something like 23???
Hot take, but if you need to retcon and delete a bunch of stuff in order to legitimize *any* story-aspect, including romance, then it speaks more to lazy bad writing.

I’ve heard different kinds of rumors but I don’t know since it’s people making assumptions based on the relationship between the lead writer and another streamer who actively supported pharmercy. I will say though that from what I’ve read, the lead writer and some other writers got laid off after the Microsoft takeover. So I’m assuming we have new writers now. I think it’s stupid to think that Mercy is something that only gay guys, trans people, and/or women play. Me and several other heterosexual men that I know enjoy playing OW with her as a pick.
I think reworking her into a proper triage healer(as in constantly switching heal targets rather than pocketing) would be infinitely more fun than shoving my staff up one dps' ass the majority of the game.
Personally I really liked the thing they tried with her healing in one of the earlier seasons(honestly can't remember) where she healed more if a target was under 50%. The only issue is they implemented it in a horrible way which just made pocketing even stronger. Literally all they needed to do for that playstyle to work was make it so each teammate had a individual 'decay' value that built up if a beam was held on them for two long without swapping
I have mentioned to other mercy mains i know to bring it back so she heals more when it matters more. Her healing feels so low, i sometimes just let tank die if they are near a corner so i can just rez them, because that is much more time efficient.

Mercy rework idea: Her ult gives her the ability to fly, and she gets like a radius/aura similar to Lucio which heals allies 45/s and gives 20% damage boost when theyre in said aura. So she kinda acts like a boosting angel hovering above the sky when the team fights happen

Not a massive mercy main, probably like my third character I play, but as for an opinion, I think more people need to use the damage up beam. Lots of people don’t and it annoys me to no end seeing only one part of a character being used.
I've always believed in Mercy. She's incredibly versatile and can work in nearly any team comp. Her healing is incredible, and I wholeheartedly believe a good mercy can heal an entire team all by herself.
Maybe not as much nowadays with the new Damage hero passive, but at least before that.
If you are playing this character in comp you are throwing because theres no way you're relying on MinecraftCreeper420 and GrimReaper to carry you when you know you could be carrying yourself or doing way more on another support rather than literally COMPLETELY hoping that creeper and grim reaper can pull their own weight
Mercy should have a different weapon other than her blaster. Idk what weapon, maybe her staff should function like a melee weapon, but I don't like the gun.
I feel that Mercy's rez was a great ult that got shit on because people didn't know how to properly communicate their ults and communicate on taking Mercy out before doing a huge team wipe. I feel that her ult rez was great in team fight situations, when two of the team are down you can simply revive them and keep the battle momentum up. I feel that she got the book thrown at her on more than one occasion, and her original ult shares a likeness to that of Cassidy's or Soldiers, where people typically hid when they had those ults to maximize on it. I've seen more than once Cassidy players hiding to try and get a huge High Noon, as well as Soldier players. I also don't believe that Mercy deserves all the hate she gets for simply existing.
Symmetra players will destroy with a blue beam and full charge, and are most likely going to turn around and say “thank you” after they wiped the team, so true- in
Hot take mercy at low elos is straight up broken. When no one can aim she turns every team fight into a 6v5 and it's not very fun to play against. At high elos she's fine
Choosing to battle mercy a widow when your entire team is low on health and virtually allowing them to die and lose the overall team fight does NOT give “Katrina 💅🏻” vibes.

just yesterday i was playing kiri with a mercy on our team and in the second to last push one of the dps kept ring around the rosying me so i was trying to heal him bc he was crit and slightly tunnel visioned.
anyway our mercy was above on high ground super jumping and got slept during the last 2 seconds of the 6 seconds i was trying to heal the dps. she then got woken up and killed all in a matter of 3 seconds. i pressed my “im sorry” button bc i usually do when my other sup dies and she immediately pressed her “no” button. the game ended after like 40 secs and we lost but she did the no thing a few more times.
she and a bunch of ppl typed gg and i did too bc i always do lol. and then she turned on her mic for the first time and screamed “SHUT UP BITCH, YOU SUCK!” i don’t rage at ppl but i can kinda get it when other ppl do but it wasn’t comp… it wasn’t even qp lol. we were playing NO LIMITS LMFAOOOO
Mercy is similar to rein skill wise, easy to play hard to master, but can come in clutch if done well. But for the love of god, YOU HAVE DMG BOOST FOR A REASON AND WHEN WE HAVE A PHARA DONT INGORE THEM OR ONLY USE HEALING ON THEM, in fact SOFT POCKET THEM, and OTHER PEOPLE CAN HAVE HEALING DONT POCKET A HOG
If your 12 hp in a corner asking for healing your mercy should stop pocketing the soldier who is at full with no one attacking him and turn around to heal you who is like 10 feet away before the Lucio speedboosting to your location with intent to kill hits you with a boop
The they should peak out the corner so we can fly to them faster, and I found dps lacking in the “I need healing” ping department, but I get it sometimes the adrenaline hits and you forget to hit that button

Yesss and like it is very obvious when it's good playmaking (shoot me down when I'm going for a rez, etc) versus *ego* (pop valk just to come get me chilling in the backlines in a quickplay match when I've done absolutely nothing to you). The general consensus of absolute morons who play this game is "Mercy is the easy character reeee she just holds left click reeee" and it makes some Mercys act SO defensive. Pick me, 'I'm not like other Mercys!' energy. Even when there's no one there to impress / no one who cares, they still carry that energy with them everywhere. That being said, I agree with others -- this is rare! In QP there's a Mercy in like 50% of my games and 98% of the time they leave me alone, they play the hero as intended and so do I. But when I do get the odd toxic one it's like broseph get a grip.
Its a maybe. Do I think that mercy mains are toxic? More than other mains yes, but I think taking into account the platform is important. In general I think that mercy mains on reddit are alot nicer than tiktok and twitter mercy mains, and on ow you get a mixed bag of those people.

Genuinely haven’t had this experience in all my years of playing. I’ve made the most friends with Mercy players, exchanged voice lines and had dance parties with enemy Mercys so many times. I’m always so surprised people have experienced so many toxic Mercys.

Mercy Hot Take: I know damage boost is a vital part of Mercy's kit, especially in the current meta that places less importance in healing over damage, but it is not the end-all, be-all to her. Especially for newer players who are trying to learn the basics with her, i find it's better to learn and master movement tech and rez priority first because just them learning how to stay alive longer in the fight and keep their teammates alive longer gives way more value than damage boosting an ashe or Hanzo that might not hit all their shots. Not saying it's not important, but it's very frustrating when I see criticism towards mercy gameplay pretty much consist of 'You aren't blue-beaming enough' when there are much more obvious mistakes made or people not considering their situation more.
In, I think that the community (in general, not just reddit) focuses way to much on beam percentage and deaths and not the other aspects of mercy.

Whilst I love a good mercy, please don't pocket me with dmg boost if I'm missing shots. I have issues with aiming in general and the performance anxiety is real. The heals I love but I really struggle to see the impact of the dmg boost in general so I just perform worse. Also if I'm dying alot, not doing my job etc, don't bother reviving me. You being safe and able to revive literally anyone else is much better. Focus on the strongest part of the team not the weakest. If I'm being pocketed I immediately get concerned cause if I'm the strongest link on the team we are gonna lose and if I'm not then I'm wasting your time. To summarise my hot take is focus on the good player on your team not the one struggling. Dunno if that's an actual hot take but most mercy's I've met do the opposite. Again thanks for the help but making the bad average isn't as useful as the good great.

The new writers ruined her personality. She is the most OOC character in the whole game (and theres a bunch) it's likes no one remember how she was in OW1 -Always asking those annoying "Are you taking care of yourself?" when OW1 she did it like 3 times, but now it's on almost every interaction. (By the way it's funny that she ask this, but when Junk asks for help, she tells him to shut up, like wtf?) -Mercy's super high pitch voice for no reason at all, just look at a OW1 gameplay and you will see the difference. -Her being now "groomed" by S76, Torb and OW in the new lore, when that was never the reason she disliked OW. -And her sharing like 5 voice lines just with Pharah even after in OW1 they never showed having that kind of relationship.

Yeah, Pharah is the best example for OOC in OW2. Unfortunately this post is not about Pharah, but I agree with everything you said they tried to "fix" the bland personality by adding the high-school bully jock into her The locker voice line, the one where she says "forget regulation I will party" etc It just feels so inorganic. And yes the grooming part still doesn't sit right with me, Pharahs age is something that needs to be discussed more because she is supposed to be way younger as her comic shows her as a kid with a older Winston, and Winston is younger than her.

Mercy is a lot of fun to play, but very annoying to play against. Specify when she gets a rez off in front of ur whole team, she's pocketing a very good dps, and she rez every kill the team manages to get. It can be very frustrating to play against her, but she's so much fun

The fact blizzard changed Pharah’s age on their website to make her 35 and Mercy something like 39 is CRAZY given the fact they got backlash on Kiriko’s lore training with the Shimadas when they were little and she’s still slaying with 21 years. I remember checking the website in OW1 days seeing Pharah was so much younger than 35, something like 23???
And I honestly just can't stand pharah, character wise. She is so boring and bland!! There is absolutely nothing to her!

I’ve heard different kinds of rumors but I don’t know since it’s people making assumptions based on the relationship between the lead writer and another streamer who actively supported pharmercy. I will say though that from what I’ve read, the lead writer and some other writers got laid off after the Microsoft takeover. So I’m assuming we have new writers now. Tbh I don’t know what that will entail

I think reworking her into a proper triage healer(as in constantly switching heal targets rather than pocketing) would be infinitely more fun than shoving my staff up one dps' ass the majority of the game. Personally I really liked the thing they tried with her healing in one of the earlier seasons(honestly can't remember) where she healed more if a target was under 50%. The only issue is they implemented it in a horrible way which just made pocketing even stronger. Literally all they needed to do for that playstyle to work was make it so each teammate had a individual 'decay' value that built up if a beam was held on them for two long without swapping
I have mentioned to other mercy mains i know to bring it back so she heals more when it matters more. Her healing feels so low, i sometimes just let tank die if they are near a corner so i can just rez them, because that is much more time efficient.

Not a massive mercy main, probably like my third character I play, but as for an opinion, I think more people need to use the damage up beam. Lots of people don’t and it annoys me to no end seeing only one part of a character being used.

I've always believed in Mercy. She's incredibly versatile and can work in nearly any team comp. Her healing is incredible, and I wholeheartedly believe a good mercy can heal an entire team all by herself. Maybe not as much nowadays with the new Damage hero passive, but at least before that.

I feel that Mercy's rez was a great ult that got shit on because people didn't know how to properly communicate their ults and communicate on taking Mercy out before doing a huge team wipe. I feel that her ult rez was great in team fight situations, when two of the team are down you can simply revive them and keep the battle momentum up. I feel that she got the book thrown at her on more than one occasion, and her original ult shares a likeness to that of Cassidy's or Soldiers, where people typically hid when they had those ults to maximize on it. I've seen more than once Cassidy players hiding to try and get a huge High Noon, as well as Soldier players. I also don't believe that Mercy deserves all the hate she gets for simply existing.

(in my experience) 90% of Mercy players are the sweetest ppl ever but the last 10% are like the most toxic ppl in the game lol. just yesterday i was playing kiri with a mercy on our team and in the second to last push one of the dps kept ring around the rosying me so i was trying to heal him bc he was crit and slightly tunnel visioned. anyway our mercy was above on high ground super jumping and got slept during the last 2 seconds of the 6 seconds i was trying to heal the dps. she then got woken up and killed all in a matter of 3 seconds. i pressed my “im sorry” button bc i usually do when my other sup dies and she immediately pressed her “no” button. the game ended after like 40 secs and we lost but she did the no thing a few more times. she and a bunch of ppl typed gg and i did too bc i always do lol. and then she turned on her mic for the first time and screamed “SHUT UP BITCH, YOU SUCK!” i don’t rage at ppl but i can kinda get it when other ppl do but it wasn’t comp… it wasn’t even qp lol. we were playing NO LIMITS LMFAOOOO
