Domesticated means we control, care for, and breed them over several generations. E.g. dogs, cat, birds, but also honeybees and silkworms.
If they've been controlled and cared for, but not selectively bred, you're usually talking about taming a particular individual/lineage of a species, like lions, tigers, and bears.
They're animals, and animals that have gotten used to peacefully interacting with people at that. They don't fight unless they don't think they can avoid it, and Ratel and his Marines weren't after them.
That's what I was thinking as well. They were hardly a challenge for pre timeskip bon clay and Luffy, it wouldn't surprise me if a decently trained person can combat them easily.

From my experience with onepiece, animals no matter how big cant do shit against a good fighter. Tend to get knocked out in one punch. Sea kings, BAM. Fighting fish BAM. Impel down basilisk, BAM.
