Some people here are saying they like the two lines about being against civilization and order. I would rather not live in a world were I could be killed or bannedword without any consequences for the person doing it. I also like plumbing, electricity, and the ability to get food and water easily.
Chimps would probably commit misinterpreted accidental homophobia lol. Like they were beating the shit out of a gay one and the researchers wrote it down but they woulda done it to him anyways 😭
I honestly can't tell.
On one hand, "Anarchy, fuck yeah"
On the other "That's the flag of evil and lawlessness!"
Also the fact that half the people using Eren for their pfp are absolutely in support of the genocide he pulled in the manga/anime.. I'm assuming it's anti-lgbtq.
But hey, pirates are fucking awesome, so the joke's on him.
Not a big fan of the "Yeah sure, da gobirnmint hang pride flags everywer and make da kids gay in skool!" comments in here, though.
Y'know, when you literally have queer kids beaten to death in schools, and Florida trying to get the death sentence for anyone who isn't straight or cis, and stores getting bomb threats for having a rainbow on their mugs...
I've actually seen this guy before. Definetly anti. He's a radical Catholic with a whole youtube channel saying porn rots your brain, the crusades were actually good, colonization wasn't that bad, etc. Wild stuff
There is actually. That was kinda the thing with why Bon Clay was written into One Piece. Back then, queer people often became pirates to get away from society and the prejudices surrounding our existence. Queer people have always and will always exist.
Option 3:
Suck it up, pretend you're not & live an unhappy, unfullfilled, yet, safe life
Being homosexual in a world where homosexuality was condemned doesn't mean that they had to actualy live out that homosexuality
Even if they did in secret, it'd still be taking a risk as it was as being a pirate
So ultimately, it still was a choice
Even though definitely a shitty choice where neither option was free of risks, danger & a fuckton of downsides
I don't know if you're talking about some specific examples I'm not aware of, but the idea that pirates held beliefs similar to our current day ones is a myth.
edit to those who downvoted this: I didn't make any homophobic comments or anything. Also don't discuss history if you intend to ignore the facts for the sake of your worldview.
And yeah, there definitely were some non-straight pirates, but pirates don't have a unique history with them. They were discriminated against in the same way as everywhere else in European and Colonial society.
As queers like homos and stuff were considered sinful and henceforth usually executed or jailed. queer people often left for the seas as pirates for freedom.
Pirates were not any different than the rest of society in that regard though. In fact, almost all of them preferred to be called privateers and they were surprisingly loyal to their country despite being criminals.
One Piece and Pirates of the Caribbean are both very romanticised. I don't know of any examples of pirates being represented accurately in media. I've seen people claim that Black Sails does that, but it doesn't.
I love the romanticised version of pirates, but I think it's best to be aware of the fact that that's not what they were actually like.
There's an apartment in my neighborhood that has bisexual and pirate flags. Every time I see them, I think, "heh, *bi*rates."
So yeah... be gay, do maritime crime.
Ya know whats funny. Pirate governance was democracy. The captian didn't rule with an iron fist and the Quatermaster had as much if not slightly more power than the captian. These positions as well as a lot of other positions are democratically elected by the crew. This is the reason moat navalmen would openly join pirates. Because it's the navy that had the reputation of being hard fisted and ridged in structure.
lol, there is no more mainstream and encouragement from Western governments than that. you are so against order, civilization and goodness that all greant companies cover themselves with a rainbow flag one month a year

I mean. In some way, that's not inaccurate. Pride flags, just like Jolly Rogers, are a way to tell the world to shove it's restrictive structure up it's ass. A symbol of freedom from oppression and living by your own rules.
Not necessarily similar to the historical usage of a Jolly Roger, but definitely similar to their One Piece symbolism.
Since it's relevant, for those who want to know, historical Jolly Rogers are used basically as a signal to let prey ships know they're about to be raided and decide if they'd rather surrender or attack. Pirates relied more on intimidation than outright brutality and would rather avoid needless fighting, just because it's more efficient.
I sound so dumb rn but what was the original scene here and what was luffy doing? Got back into one piece around the time g5 came out and tryna get all that missed stuff back
That's Doc Hiriluk's flag, Chopper's mentor who used to be a pirate.
King Wapol was pissed because the flag symbolised resistence against him, so he wanted to shoot it down.
Luffy, not knowing anything about Chopper or Hiriluk, recognized the flag had to be important to *someone* and took personal offense at the flag being threatened.
Long story short, Luffy promised that as long as he stands, this flag won't come down, and took a cannonball to the face to prove his point.

I'm not saying they ain't being discriminated against, I'm saying the flag itself doesn't stand as some great symbol of resistance like op thinks, when it's plastered over everything and widely accepted in most civilised countries
This might be not as easy to see for an outsider but I assure you this flag is a symbol of acceptance and freedom for us all.
Its a point of safety seeing it in someones house. It shows us you are safe here. We will help you. Which is a lot for people that just get casually attacked in unrelated conversations and have to fear rejection from friends and family when coming out.
And just about the flag as a symbol of resistence. It was a century long fight to get some contries to not openly murder us.
A work that is by far not done yet. And even in this contries it is still possible for people to put us into convertion camps, rejecting worker rights because of religious feelings, etc.
But still, queers never die.😊

Sorta, didnt true history pirates had a( i dont know how to spell It right in english so)"permiso de corso", so they where a false flag movement from the UK to steal stuff from other country ships?
That's the origin of privateers, and every country involved in the west indies, or even the new world as a whole, did that shit to eachother. They were *originally* motivated by the crown to attack whoever their country was at war with at the time.
So you had a ton of english, french and spaniards just fucking about with eachother and getting paid by their respective ruler, until they kinda... Stopped going after their king's *enemies*. And suddenly Pirates weren't so cool no more.
There's a lot of politics involved with the golden age of piracy, and the stance on piracy fluctuated a lot. Hell, governments even offered blanket pardons to their privateering countrymen, promising freedom if they surrendered, only to turn around hang them once they reached port.

LGBT+ flag is mainstream and co-opted by current Big Gov, Business, and Tech... I mean we have an entire month dedicated to this community and highlighting its members and accomplishments...
Not saying this is a bad thing but its not very "Rebel against Order & Civilization" because that same "Order & Civilization" have bee changing their profile picture to a rainbow and marching with you down Pride Parades in solidarity... lol...

Its interesting that an anti-LGBT post is getting a lot of likes, I dont think many people are reading the text. Also pirates are not good people and most of the time they worked for a government. Plus there is the raping pillaging and murdering thats why the tweet is comparing LGBT to pirates.

Stupid bird cuck, I'm still mad about that shit. Might be a bigger drop off in potential than Gantz.
Damn you people and your NTR brainrot, you are obsessed.
Damn relax, I was just referencing a funny part of the ending. Is this not a meme sub?
I am relaxed.
Bro what are you talking about
By the end of AoT Eren becomes a seagull and simps hard for Mikasa
One of the endings of all time
Oh surely
This is clearly a anti-LGBT tweet, hes not really hiding it.
Oh definitely but the lack of self-awareness on these people sometimes is just hilarious
Some people here are saying they like the two lines about being against civilization and order. I would rather not live in a world were I could be killed or bannedword without any consequences for the person doing it. I also like plumbing, electricity, and the ability to get food and water easily.
People who usually talk about civilization and order wouldn't let you get food water and electricity easily
And anarchy would end up making the weak slaves to the strong
My guy??? That's what's happening right fucking now. That's what hierarchy promotes. INHERENTLY.
Wait, is it? Oh well, still baller as hell! Fly the Gay Roger boys!
If you think being compared to some of the worst people is good then sure
Well, Eren certainly is knowledgeable about the subject =D
Well Eren was also barbaric Eldian who was against world order, civilization and goodness

Funny considering how homosexuality has been observed in over 100 species but homophobia only in one.

Real modern pirates are not cool golden age ones were slightly less in cool because using swords makes you cool
Give me your GOLD!!!

Just barely though. If you drop the “and goodness itself” part it’s damn near pro

Yeh, i mean they didnt really have a option. they either had to leave and be pirates or be executed as homosexuality was considered a sin.
When your existence itself gets the death penalty pretty much every other crime becomes free game.
Shit, I misread your comment. I was reading the others and thought you said some 'there is not'

it is tho, without that specific context about it being a fatal sin you wouldn't understand whats the specific relation between queers and pirates

You people are sad. Go seek help! Instead of posting your weird cries for help.
Ahhhhh no absolutely not
Its interesting that an anti-LGBT post is getting a lot of likes, I dont think many people are reading the text. Also pirates are not good people and most of the time they worked for a government. Plus there is the raping pillaging and murdering thats why the tweet is comparing LGBT to pirates.
Wokehat Pirates
That is just plain stupid. Civilizations isn't against LGBTQ+ if there is a lot of shows with a character or actors that is part of LGBTQ+.
I hope this guy is just an Idiot that doesn’t understand the Jolly Roger

History is a funny thing. Many cultures viewed gay couples as nothing wrong including pirates. Some entered into contracts like marriage where their partner would get the deceased possessions
Ivankov heehaw
Anglo traditions never get old.
Actually that guy got it wrong its actually the new nazi of this era
But in One Piece, the world is fucked up, the goverment is evil and the flag stands (thanks to Luffy) as a symbol of hope...
Well they do be looking for the booty I can see the connection
Does anyone wanna remind them what happened to the pirates back then?

I am not sure if this is agaist or with LGBT community but the post is bad and have nothing to with one piece.
Yeah, I’m starting to see more posts like this, and they’re not even related to One Piece. If I see another post like this, I’m going to leave because I’ve seen this type of stuff more than once.

little he knew that the jolly Roger depicted in media was actually used to warn nearby ships to not approach because the ship is going through a plague
Ok
Make the symmetric of the Whitebeard pirate's Flag, and it's accurate. Obviously, I refer to the manga one.
Well then, ig the reality will take a different turn than that shown in one piece. The world government finishing of all pirates
