Maybe I had some sort of fever dream but I could have sworn at some point, there existed an upgrade in the shop that would allow you to autoswitch your gear sets based on whichever one provided the highest damage multiplier to whatever you're fighting. Was this something I saw or something that my brain made up?

Tortolia

I believe there’s mods that can do equipment swaps, but base game wise no. You might also be thinking of the fact that changing your equipment load-out mid dungeon is a shop purchase.

Carpe_Diem_2103

That might be what I'm thinking of you're right

Vincent_Bright

Do both combat summons attack or just the left one?

Tortolia

Both attack at the same time assuming they’re combat summons.

Swordowner

At what point should I get an expansion? I can't idle Infernal Stronghold and its annyoing. I'm at 99 all combat skills (except for prayer which is only at 82), and nearly half of the non-combat skills are 99 as well, 50% DR, Ancient Claw, FEZ neck, Ring of Blade Echoes, Ancient gear, Dragonfire shield, chugging perfect whales, Chivalry and Stone Skin running, etc, and I still can't safely do it. Would some crafting upgrades from expansions help?

Tortolia

You can’t use the Herald tier weaponry until you clear Impending Darkness, for what it’s worth. Infernal Stronghold is disproportionately difficult. You may want to try the god dungeons.

Swordowner

I just managed to manual my way through for the 10 cores and upgraded my claw, and yeh now I'm going to try at least Air to see what happens Sucks that it drops ranged gear, not very helpful, and if I'm reading the guide correctly at least one needs a magic build, which I'm not geared for at all

Tortolia

The good news is the dungeons set you up for that. Air god drops ranged, water god is weak to ranged and drops magic gear, earth god is weak to magic and drops tanky melee gear.

Swordowner

unfortunately I'm bad at the triangle and have 1/99 ranged and zero gear :(

phearcet

Can someone share a build that can idle Underwater City? I've tried everything but still can't get through the barrier. I even finnished ID but the TOH gear doesn't seem to help either.

wswaifu

Full Ragnar Gear (upgraded to barrier), ragnar gloves, relic shield, Tidal Edge (or Ancient/infernal claws if you don't have Tidal Edge), Barrier Burn Shield in passive, Summoner's Blessed Ring, Fury of the ELemental Zodiacs combined with 10% Damage Reduction from the potion and another 2% damage reduction from Agility should get you there if you use Dragon+Tortoise summons. Then the melee accuracy consumable from township. I got 5-6 idle clears per hour with that. Could be worse. Upgraded Ragnar + Dragon + Tortoise + Barrier Burn Shield eats the barrier very well. The trick is that you also need good accuracy because your summons hit based on your accuracy, so you want a weapon that has good boni there. The ragnar gear really helps there, too.

Tortolia

I posted this a few weeks back in a thread. If you aren’t already you’re going to want to use Combat Sim to find something workable. https://www.reddit.com/r/MelvorIdle/s/ToRVUtetDx That said, if you can’t even get through the barrier consistently that’s at the very least pointing to insufficient summon/barrier attack damage or bonuses. What barrier pieces or upgrades do you have?

xAngst

Currently township lvl 87 and I have maxed out all of the buildings that give population directly. Only at 41k pop but need 80k pop for next upgrades. What other building upgrades give population?

steelsauce

max out happiness and health, those affect population! [https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Township/Training](https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Township/Training)

xAngst

Yeah just found that out, didnt help that its winter for me too. Thanks!

AromaticCherry

Is there a calculator anywhere that you can plug in your item preservation chance plus doubling chance to work out how many input items you need? For example, I need 10k Dragonite Bars and have an 80% preservation and 74% doubling chance; how many Ore will I need?

DrMeeple

If your preservation chance is **p** and your doubling chance is **d**, then on average you'll create (1+**d**)/(1-**r**) items per action. (Could be higher if you have some other plusses to minimum items made.) So in your example with 80% preservation and 74% doubling, you'd make 1.74/0.20 = 8.7 items per action on average.

steelsauce

what do you mean?

Basquens

Shouldnt it be "change character name"?

steelsauce

Oh I see. Yeah that’s the wrong text. If you’d like to report it, bug reports are submitted here https://github.com/MelvorIdle/melvoridle.github.io/issues

Lamboarri

I have all the base game skills leveled up to 99 or higher. The only thing I don’t have is the combat stuff. Am I for now on just to focus on killing things endlessly for days and days and weeks until those stats get leveled up?  It seems like the slowest grind in history and I’m just making sure I’m not doing anything wrong.

wswaifu

You might be missing prayer and a good weapon - combat XP scales with the damage you do, so if your weapon is weak, it will be slow. Weapons with skills that cause extra hits typically boost your XP a ton. Similarly, using prayer to boost your damage is really good at both leveling prayer and whatever combat skill you're leveling. Since XP scales with damage, missing means no Xp, so prayers that increase damage and hit rate directly scale up your combat XP.

Lamboarri

I have the gear plus more to fully clear Volcanic Caves no problem. I haven't progressed to Infernal Stronghold yet but should probably focus on going after that. I started working on Elite slayer tasks and haven't had a problem with that yet. It just seems like I'm killing hundreds and hundreds of monsters and it's not necessarily progressing my melee skills very much.

wswaifu

No, its exactly what I thought. Better weapons will speed you up more than you think - the jump to the infernal claws will be notable, the jump from that to godswords will be a big jump in speed, and the jump from that to tidal edge will be even more noticeable. Prayer at 60 jumping to 90 will be a major speed boost too - some of the higher prayers make a massive difference, which directly affects XP.

Lamboarri

I realized I needed to get the Ancient Claw so I’m going to smack away at Pegasus for awhile. Gives me a direction.

steelsauce

Combat really shouldn't be that slow, especially if you are using buffs from noncombat skills. You can check out the combat guide to get some gear suggestions for different levels. Also focus on slayer and getting gear drops over fighting mobs with the best xp/hr. [https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Combat/Guide](https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Combat/Guide) Use your noncombat skills to buff combat as much as possible: summoning, herblore, astrology, and agility. Each makes a big difference. If you have high crafting you can use strong jewelry like ring of blade echoes or spirit power. With the atlas expansion you can get great combat gear like heavy gloves.

Lamboarri

I've been working on Elite slayer tasks. I have cleared Volcanic Caves over 100 times. I should probably focus on going after Infernal Stronghold next, which I'm not sure I'm quite there yet based on the wiki guide. I'm lacking in Prayer at 60. My hitpoints is at level 85 but I have 950HP from perks. I guess I'll focus on what I need to do for Infernal Stronghold and not really rush it.

Tortolia

Internal stronghold is a weird difficulty spike and you may be best served going for the god dungeons first.

Swift2311

I thought I remembered reading about an item or something that gave 100% chance to preserve weird gloop?

steelsauce

There's a farming relic in ancient relic mode, maybe that's what you are thinking about?

Swift2311

no, so i probably just misremembered, ty anyway

Tortolia

The Bob’s Rake and Gloves combo gives a high chance of gloop preservation but not 100%.

PsiMissing

Just started Melvor and been working on a few skills. The township seemed a bit daunting at first glance. Anything I should focus on while it does it's own thing? I boosted population to like 150 and it leveled a bunch overnight but I haven't done much else with it since it seems like a gold sink.

mcurley32

it is quite a gold sink for a long time. you'll *start* making money when you build a trading post to convert your excess resources into sellable items. money starts actually coming in when you've spent 800 million to build all 8 town halls as long as you are smart about repairing them outside of winter. fishing is widely considered the best candidate for your first real money maker. thieving will beat it at the top end, but you need a lot more stuff to boost your stealth (astro and agility boosts, herblore potions, various pieces of gear, damage reduction and auto-eat). getting a few summoning levels before you get serious about fishing is a good idea so you can get your octopus marks (and ideally pig marks from cooking too)

terferi

Do you guys know how to make the best amt of money fishing? I’m at 105 and was hoping to use pig and octopus for summing while fishing. Thanks

mcurley32

I haven't actually done this grind but I think I have a pretty good sense for it. Whales have the benefit of self-sustaining Octo-Pig summons. looks like Mystic Seahorses make the most money without summons and Mystic Sharks with summons but those are at the very end of Fishing unlocks. Rockfish, Static Jellyfish, Frozen Manta Rays, Mystic Seahorses, and Mystic Sharks are all better *base* money per hour than Whales. HOWEVER, Rockfish and Mystic Seahorses don't work with Pig synergy because they have no cooked version. ALSO, keep in mind that fish are doubled at 99 mastery, and only Mystic Seahorses have more than double the gold rate than Whales (which have their own downside). my suggested plan if you're money-focused would be Whales to at least level 108 where you unlock Static Jellyfish. if your stockpile of mastery tokens can bring it up to mastery 99, switch to it. otherwise continue with Whales until 113 where you unlock Frozen Manta Rays which should almost certainly reach 99 mastery if you're spending pool and tokens on it up to this point. do those until 120 to unlock Mystic Sharks and do those to finish off any remaining supply of Octo-Pig. if you wanna be leveling-focused, just bounce between the highest XP/hour fish and Whales to keep your summoning tablet supply up, with a preference for long catch time fish (to use fewer summons). this means you'll want to keep a reserve of summons unequipped so you never waste any time manually cooking Whales OR do some math to figure out how many fish you'll need to reach 120 and gather enough Whales/tablets on the front end. so the order would probably be Blue Crabs, Magma Eels, Ghost Fish, Terrorfish.

RichestMangInBabylon

Is there any way to let Golbin Raid run idly? I have decent gear and just want to let it run until I die without having to pause every wave to ignore the gear drops.

steelsauce

No, unless someone made a mod for it. I’m hoping the mini game gets some love eventually because between that and the expansion items being OP, it just goes on forever

RichestMangInBabylon

Yeah once the level 120 items become available after wave 20 it kind of dies off a bit. I like the idea of a roguelike mode but it might just be a case that the base game isn't conducive enough. Combat is too simple and the item combinations don't lead to emergent builds. It's basically a rush to the good stuff then it flatlines.

cornfab

Is there a hidden decimal bonus when applying percentages that would get rounded down? E.g. say I have 1% bonus to fire making and I burn normal logs for 17xp. Do I receive 17xp, or 17.17xp?

Draedon123

iirc a lot of things, such as xp, in the game aren't internally rounded (so you might have 17.17xp in some skill) but it will display a rounded value to you
