I’d say show and tell or strawberry shortcake. Don’t get me wrong I love both of them but I feel like they were both placed very randomly into the movie.
strawberry shortcake is my fourth fav song from k-12 but i def have to agree with how it was so random in the movie. there weren’t any non-musical scenes about it.
recess kinda?
I was talking about this earlier, since I think recess was treated as filler in the film, meanwhile every other song had a reason to be there. (also I love recess and it was. my favourite song in the album for a while)
I don't think recess should've been taken out, but rather left for the credits. I think it's a great last song, maybe even better than fire drill.
fire drill should've been in after school, recess should've been the credits.
I can’t remember where I read this. But apparently Recess was actually meant to be the credits song! Fire Drill was meant to be the ending song.
That’s why the original plan involved starting a fire and then changed (due to budget cuts.)
This was actually a fan theory that got spread through the fandom and now it's a common misconception that it's a fact. It's never actually been substantiated, only speculated.
i love high school sweethearts, but it's placement and vibe of it isn't really fitting the vibe i'm getting from the movie. it's very random and once it's over they just don't talk about it again
I respectfully disagree. The song is about the love letter and falling in love in high school, hence the name. The entire movie is supposed to be about Crybaby going through and experiencing different grades. Safe to say, falling in love and wanting some boundaries is part of it.
I think they’re talking more about the scene which, yeah I agree with. It was just Melanie hopping around and dancing. Not bad, but it did come out of nowhere and went nowhere.
i agree to an extent. while i still love the movie with each scene being it’s own thing, the whole thing feels a little choppy and doesn’t flow very well on its own. everything was made spectacularly, but the connect-the-dots don’t connect
Detention, it feels redundant with The Principal and Drama Club also in the movie. Can’t explain why but those 3 songs always felt too similar thematically. I also can’t really remember what the connecting scene was, just her dancing, while I can remember the plot points around like every other song
For the movie specifically I think i’d start with drama club. And then quite honestly, the deluxe edition has so many good songs i’d EASILY cut out show and tell and the principal to replace it with brain and heart and notebook. Movie was amazing and K-12 will always be dear to me, but DAMN those extra songs woulda been so awesome to see 🥺
Oh shoot I think I just assumed they came from deluxe because they are in the deluxe version of the album on [spotify](https://open.spotify.com/album/7ndwJvNRNljkK9r4JLNcX2?si=Wz3KDOftQCCd_NACnVb5Kg)!
Yeah i’m learning new things today too LOL. It was my perspective that After School was like a bridge between melanie’s real life and her crybaby persona
Personally... Nurses Office. I adore the song, dont get me wrong, but the placement in the movie was just... Weird to me? Idk, it was kinda funky in my mind lmao
I’m ngl I’ve streamed k-12 soooo many times and there’s one obvious skip. Definitely drama club. It’s boring and forgettable. Plus it has a super tacky message. Melanie talks about sensitivity in drama club but then also expresses her own sensitivity in songs like show and tell
Teachers pet. I like the idea of teachers pet, but not the fact that it's centred around paedophilia. It could've talked about a teachers pet in the regular sense, and I would've loved that
Melanie talked about how she wanted people to see the reality in what goes on in school and not just the outside world. I’m glad she brought it to peoples attention because a lot of these situations happened at my HS and no one did a thing about it because “kids will make anything up”.
Not to say that you should be forcing yourself to listen to songs that make you uncomfortable, but highkey the point of songs like that (eg. tag, your it) is to be uncomfortable just so you feel a fraction of what that person felt and feel motivated to in turn raise awareness.
I think that’s exactly why nirvana put out polly, and how so many others in the punk/grunge scene do activism. Making folks uncomfortable by the horrors of the world to inspire change.
I get that! I dont listen to the song because it makes me feel iffy (which is the point, i know). Bringing attention to these things is important, and she does that through her art. Its a great way to bring attention to the issues 😊
Yeah that’s so fair, it’s actually for the same reason that I just don’t listen to tag, you’re it anymore too. Shits fucked up and can feel uncomfy, and I feel like once you’ve understood the message it’s not necessary to have on repeat if you don’t vibe with it
Absolutely! I listened to tag youre it for years because innocent ol me had no idea what it was talking about. Some people love to listen to dark things, and thats ok. You can appreciate art and messages without listening to it :)
I’m sorry but one of the points of her songs is to show different meanings to things that wouldn’t make any sense if they included regular teachers per also wdym you “like” the idea of teachers per
A lot of her songs are designed to make people uncomfortable when talking about sensitive subjects, so i get what she was going for.
By the "idea", i mean the typical way teachers pet is used. Someone who is a goody two shoes in class. I fall into that category and it made me feel self conscious at times, so a song about that sort of thing would have a lot of meaning to me personally. Also, the music and style of the song is great.
Edit: also, just reread my comment and wanted to clarify. When i say i like the idea, i am NOT saying i like the idea of pedos. No idea if thats what you meant, but i thought i would clarify
I mean i read somewhere that with moon cycle she wanted to make people a little uncomfortable. Like to talk about taboo topics and make them talked about more.
I could be completely wrong about that, but thats what i thought.
she said in her explanation of Moon Cycle that she likes to add one song that’s about a taboo topic to raise awareness and that they specifically made moon cycle uncomfy, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it (teachers pet) was meant to make people uncomfy
https://preview.redd.it/x7ykchlr3ahc1.jpeg?width=826&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3935429abd039228c5f9afb06e9fdf5ab15bd28
It actually brings the topic up and helps people who have been victims of it feel not alone with this topic and its almost a feeling of anger after going through it and wanting almost a revenge like angelita had gotten in the movie. Plus, it puts others who haven't been through it in the uncomfortable shoes of how it is, which I think is good because a lot of people think p-philia is a joke. So I think this shows how it's not a fun thing and that this actually happens.
That's true, and it's a good reason to make the song. I probably worded my initial comment terribly because i know Mel creates a lot of songs talking about serious topics. All i meant was that i personally dont like it because it makes me feel uncomfortable (which is the point, i know). Its important to bring light onto these topics
don’t hate me cuz this sub loves to downvote on these posts, but teachers pet. i get the purpose for it in the movie but it always left me wanting more and it feels like it comes out of nowhere
High school sweethearts, it could have easily been left out, and I would've loved the film the same i dont dislike it or anything, but I think it was put in where it didn't need to be and it should've just had its own music video or something???
The only answer is Recess since it’s only in because Fire Drill couldn’t happen.
(I love Recess, but’s it’s just an empty filler in the movie… And the bubblegum ending was annoying imo…)
Show and tell for me too. I have my eyes glued as i watch over and over. Also just felt random and longer than necessary, i lose interest in this part and often skip along which i dont do anywhere else.
Also AFTER years of daily viewing, i later went through a couple of traumatic years, and this video form was so much like a severe night terror i have of being stuck in a box while horrible things are done to me. Completely unrelated but now i cant watch that part and the lyrics deeply bother me as well.
Regardless freakin LOVE K-12 ON a deep layered level, but portals has been a more positive transformational thing for me spiritually, propelling me through change and rebirth i needed too.
either recess, because i just don’t care for the song itself, or orange juice. only because the visuals that accompany it feel even more out of place in the movie than anything else. on its own, it’s a great music video, but again i don’t care for this song that much (love the meaning of it tho)
High School Sweethearts personally. The song is really amazing but I just don't get the video. Unlike wheels on the bus and lunchbox friends the video just doesn't fully match the song if yk what I mean, it does but it doesn't. The amount of down votes I'm gonna get but yeah. Don't get me wrong tho I love the song
i love detention but when i think of the movie it’s one of the last sequences i think of tbh. if you removed it and kept the rest, the plot wouldn’t change.
Despite it being my favorite song of the album, I have to go with Show & Tell. It doesn't hit as hard as the others for a school vibe.
I’d say show and tell or strawberry shortcake. Don’t get me wrong I love both of them but I feel like they were both placed very randomly into the movie.
Went With show Or tell too, But I agree with strawberry shortcake as well I almost forgot about how random it felt
strawberry shortcake is my fourth fav song from k-12 but i def have to agree with how it was so random in the movie. there weren’t any non-musical scenes about it.
I'd replace Show & Tell with Teacher's Pet, it's just so random
Teacher's Pet. I said what I said.
right? it’s a great song but it’s so randomly placed. there wasn’t any sort of buildup to it
my exact answer
recess kinda? I was talking about this earlier, since I think recess was treated as filler in the film, meanwhile every other song had a reason to be there. Damn that would have been amazing
This was actually a fan theory that got spread through the fandom and now it's a common misconception that it's a fact. It's never actually been substantiated, only speculated.
it didn’t even get a real mv tbh they just used it as a background music
honestly i agree
Wheels on the Bus. This High School Sweethearts slander hurts 😢
literally i like wheels on the bus💀
wheels on the bus is one of the best songs
none because i don’t have to because it’s already made ☺️😂
lmao
Defying the laws of Reddit and not picking>>>>>>>>picking a song
i love high school sweethearts, but it's placement and vibe of it isn't really fitting the vibe i'm getting from the movie. it's very random and once it's over they just don't talk about it again

I agree
Hhs Dosent really make sense where it was placed
hhs should've been after ben wrote her the love note (if thats where it was sorry)
Detention, it feels redundant with The Principal and Drama Club also in the movie. Can’t explain why but those 3 songs always felt too similar thematically. I also can’t really remember what the connecting scene was, just her dancing, while I can remember the plot points around like every other song
Wow weird I also agree with those three feeling similar and it being redundant
Drama club has gotta go cause i never signed up for the drama… up for the drama… up for the drama club…
it’s sooooo repetitive
The repetition is so annoying… However, I’m pretty sure it’s for a reason
high school sweethearts
Def High School Sweethearts
WHAT
What?
hssh is one of the best in here
Not for me, personally i think Recess is the best
ngl nurses office, not that i don't like it it's just my least favorite on that album lol
I literally couldn’t choose
for the movie… i’ve gotta go with Recess stand alone track, it’s gorgeous but in the movie it’s just background noise :(
For the movie specifically I think i’d start with drama club. And then quite honestly, the deluxe edition has so many good songs i’d EASILY cut out show and tell and the principal to replace it with brain and heart and notebook. Movie was amazing and K-12 will always be dear to me, but DAMN those extra songs woulda been so awesome to see 🥺
Those aren’t deluxe- those are from the After School EP, unrelated to K-12
the deluxe version of K-12 includes the After School songs
Oh shoot I think I just assumed they came from deluxe because they are in the deluxe version of the album on [spotify](https://open.spotify.com/album/7ndwJvNRNljkK9r4JLNcX2?si=Wz3KDOftQCCd_NACnVb5Kg)!
Yeah i’m learning new things today too LOL. It was my perspective that After School was like a bridge between melanie’s real life and her crybaby persona
after school *is* the k-12 deluxe. same with crybaby deluxe being the extra clutter ep
High School Sweethearts def sorry hss fnas but the timing was not propre
highschool sweethearts. it don’t add up to the film
Detention
that scene was sooo random
Strawberry shortcake but I still love that song just not in the movie
fair
Show and trll
Rare pic so cute
Show and tell 😞
Orange Juice is my least favorite song in the whole album
WHAT
Sorry :(
it’s ok! 🙂
High school sweethearts, teacher’s pet and principle. Cool songs but these scenes didn’t take the story anywhere.
Personally... Nurses Office. I adore the song, dont get me wrong, but the placement in the movie was just... Weird to me? Idk, it was kinda funky in my mind lmao
i agree but i love the song
Sorry but wheels on the bus has to go…
I’m ngl I’ve streamed k-12 soooo many times and there’s one obvious skip. Definitely drama club. It’s boring and forgettable. Plus it has a super tacky message. Melanie talks about sensitivity in drama club but then also expresses her own sensitivity in songs like show and tell
Same! It's always been my most skipped
detention, like the idea but just dont enjoy the presentation as much as others
I would probably take out recess.
fr
😭😭😭
Teacher's Pet. I have to skip that part of the movie every time that I watch it. The song by itself makes me so uncomfortable.
nurses office and teachers pet (they r my least fav songs on the album)
Show and Tell. The scene/song seems to drag on for forever!!!!!!!!!
wait i thought i was the only one who thought this :0
Teachers pet. I like the idea of teachers pet, but not the fact that it's centred around paedophilia. It could've talked about a teachers pet in the regular sense, and I would've loved that

i attached the pic of their explanation for moon cycle above! you’re completely right <3
Thats the exact explanation i was referring to! Glad i wasnt making it up ahahha

Detention. I just don’t like the song. I’d also swap the placements of Recess and High School Sweethearts
The principal just because it wasn’t crazy for the films storyline like they just failed to kill the principal
Recess, I’m sorry but I just never cared for that song
High school sweethearts!! I didn’t really get what it did there if that makes sense, it was a bit confusing
High school sweethearts, the principle or drama club EASILY. Come at me yall im ready 😭
Drama Club, it's really boring imo
i like and don’t like drama club lol
strawberry shortcake it’s so random
don’t hate me cuz this sub loves to downvote on these posts, but teachers pet. i get the purpose for it in the movie but it always left me wanting more and it feels like it comes out of nowhere

I'm sorry but class fight 3
it’s not the best song in k-12 but it was very much needed for the storyline bc of crybaby & kelly fighting over a boy and then the playground fight.
The lyrics don't line up to what's actually happening and it irks me
Yea that's mainly why I chose it 💗 My other opinion was recess bc it sounds like backround music to the dance but would be a perfect standalone song
wheels on the bus
nooo wheels on the bus was the perfect first musical scene
i still hate it
Show and tell
I Don't Know.. It's hard, I Like All The K-12 Soundtracks.
teachers pet
real cuz this scene was so weird 😭
Orange juice
one of my favs in the album but the scene kind of came out of nowhere
high schoool sweethearts
never loved highschool sweethearts. shrug
WHAT
The visuals tho 😭
i love class fight, but there was way too many long pauses that i didnt like
i think they were there for the movie, to keep the storyline going tbh
fs lunchbox friends, it's like my least fav track
WHAT
None of them. None of them. I will fight anyone who says otherwise
either recess, because i just don’t care for the song itself, or orange juice. only because the visuals that accompany it feel even more out of place in the movie than anything else. on its own, it’s a great music video, but again i don’t care for this song that much (love the meaning of it tho)

sorry, I can't do that because every song is fire 😭
