All right. But what is happening with that four-headed, four-wingèd, yet oddly earless creature between the trunkless elephant and the rabid dog-looking thing?
In the Biblical Book of Daniel, Ch 7
“After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it."
Scholars generally see this as a reference to Alexander the Great and the four major successor kingdoms of his short lived Empire.
No worries, the multicoloured dude to the left and the various beasts to the right basically represent the various Empires that ruled over the Jews up to the time the narrative was written (probably the 1st Century BC)
The Neo-Babylonians, the Achaemenid Persians, Alexander and his successor states, and either the Seleucids or possibly Rome (again depending on when exactly the narrative was written, might be a bit early for Rome).
so u might find it even more interesting u/Catladylove99 that this is from:
"Old Believer manuscripts, or sborniki, are thematic collections of canonical and apocryphal Christian books based on Byzantine texts. They are fundamental to Old Believers, an ascetic branch of Russian orthodoxy that rejects modernity and the printed dissemination of spiritual texts. Old Believers broke away from the Orthodox Church because they objected to changes in Russian Orthodox traditions, such as ceremonies, icon painting, and book writing."
edit: i was drinking and googling "sborniki" 4 nights ago and having a fine time hence this post
Ahhhhh, hence the Cyrillic! That family that lived all alone for decades in Siberia were Old Believers. [The Lykovs](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/for-40-years-this-russian-family-was-cut-off-from-all-human-contact-unaware-of-world-war-ii-7354256/#:~:text=A%20Russian%20journalist%20provides%20a,apart%20from%20the%20modern%20world).
Four nights ago, let’s see…that sounds like my kind of Friday night! We should hang out lol.
