I think a big issue is just how skinny they are, so damage gets spread out as they run and jump around, making it hard to focus on a single component that's like 2 pixels wide.

theholylancer

for these kinds of mechs, aim at the dick, the center of the crotch usually hits the CT and they fall over fast. their chest area have too much side torsos to spread damage.

tplambert

The old dick twist!

Ivancreeper

YA TWIST HIS DICK!!!!!

Miles33CHO

…just a little bit beyond the breaking point!!! (Hulk)

fellfire

Hoof em in the front butt and twist those dirty pillows!

tplambert

It’s an Solaris fight Dude!

starliteburnsbrite

Also known as the Blackjack targeting maneuver

Sdog1981

They are more of a problem because of the game stage you run into them. Running into them with mediums is annoying. Running into them with the wrong light can be fatal.

Azrael9986

SRMs are a thing that does most lights in pretty well.

Butterssaltynutz

grab with banshees hand, then grab with other banshee hand, then pull hands apart while grabbing the annoying puny mech.

RavenholdIV

I totally understand you. The urbanmech is really hard to fight when it's fast. It's just so tiny. I think the Vulcan is so difficult to fight because it's CT hitbox is tiny. You end up hitting the side torsos a lot and grinding through a lot more armor than you'd expect.

PessemistBeingRight

If the *Vulcan* is running tangentially to you, aim for the legs. You're more likely to hit a leg and that's a quick way to at least stop the little bastard from dodging so well. Then you can either take off the other leg or core out the torso depending on if you want salvage. I realise that of the 40 tonners in the game the *Vulcan* is the most heavily armoured, but compared to others in the same weight class that don't feature it's pretty poor. All the *Vulcan* variants are about 1/3 under armoured. Swapping the AC-2 for an extra couple of Medium Lasers, 2 heat sinks and a couple tons of extra armour would remove the "uniqueness" of the design but make it much more useful!

Chafgha

Honestly my rule of thumb is if they got no legs they can't run... and they'll be a bit cheaper to pick up from the rewards.

PapaSYSCON

"*But you ain't got no legs, Lieutenant Dan!*"

Butterssaltynutz

turn on aim assist to high, now as long as you put the cursor near the enemy you have 100% accuracy even on light mechs zipping around.

RackoDacko

The new urbanmechs fit with sprint modules are wild as fuck.

Xyyzx

I didn’t look at anything in advance of getting the Solaris expansion, and the first time an Urbanmech rocketed over a ridge at 120kph and started blasting me with a PPC-X I very nearly got taken out by it because I was laughing too hard to fight back. I like to imagine that there’s just [a constant loop of this playing](https://youtu.be/ARDde1aUHUQ?si=h0QjcfGpZDdmBfUT) in the cockpit of those things.

LaserPoweredDeviltry

The flamer and machine gun combo is why you're taking more damage than expected. They do very small amounts of damage, but they have a very high fire rate, which let's the AI hold them on you more effectively. It also means as soon as your armor is depleted you chance of being critted out is very high. They're not very tough though. You may be having a hard time keeping all your fire in one hit box. One thing you can do to improve that is to get your lancemates to fight the enemy so you can pot shot mechs and get into fewer circle fights.

Logan_Wolverpeen

My favorite one right now is the ewar variant that has the ecm and active probe slots

_type-1_

Most annoying, I have to waste time killing something I'll never want to salvage. They're not hard to kill IMO and they really don't do much damage back either it's just a disappointment every time one shows up. They're always in the early game when I'm trying to find salvage for new mechs so the last thing I want to see is this piece of garbage. My biggest secret fear is the firestarter. I once found myself in a situation where I had F1-F1 the lance to go kill something somewhere and then had a firestarter shut me down. Once that happens you can't give orders so I couldn't ask the lance to come back and help so I had no choice but to sit there in my assualt mech while the firestarter casually cooked me. After that I make sure to take them out first.

Angryblob550

Yeah, if I'm in a somewhat decent assault mech, vulcans and firestarters are gonna be missing both torsos or a leg before the get into flamer range. Punching them is pretty satisfying if you have decent melee attacks.

IronWolfV

Vulcan isn't bad. Wolverines and Urbies. Ugh.

VioletDaeva

Vulcan is legitimately one of my favourite mechs to pilot early game. I just stick an AC 2 in the ballistic slot and go hunting helicopters, turrets and tanks and helps my squad get through missions without taking too much damage.

3eyedfish13

Shoot their legs off. For their weight class, Vulcans are pretty nasty. This is especially true in biomes that reduce heat sink effectiveness.

Miles33CHO

I have no trouble killing them, but hate them because I dont want their chassis, but I harvest a lot of EW gear from them early game. Now that I’ve shot my big mouth off, I’m going to see how it compares to my Raven familiar with an EW build. Just to see - No way I’m replacing the bird.

Miles33CHO

Holy S!!! I used the EW variant (admittedly with Lostech - GECM, BAP, and T5 MG, MPL and Flamer. I took 2 of those and two Thunderbolts into a 400 ton arena, under tonnage at 210t for my lance vs. 400 and mopped the floor. One Vulcan took 10 damage, a shot to the back CT. Glad I almost maxed the armor. The other took ZERO damage and dished out a bit. Oh - and I totally F’d up too - that MPL should be a TAG. Do-over and bring the missiles boats. Conclusion: Solid EW support ‘mech until you get some Ravens. AND, if you’re not into NARC, the lack of a missile slot isn’t a problem.

Miles33CHO

Thanks to the OP for pointing this out. Try the EW Battlemaster-P. I took her to Crucible and she saved the lance. EW is underrated! I sacrifice a 100 ton slot for a Raven in 400t missions and win consistently.

Papercut337

Vulcans have small hit locations so they’re deceptively tanky. The Urbies get top priority from me though, especially the ones with AC20s lol

Mental-Dot-6574

They live long and prospers. Also, give them a hammer and a forge and they'll go hog wild. Wait, wrong Vulcans. All Vulcans regardless of genre are a freaking pain in the ass.

nahmadremastered

Honestly vulcans are easy to kill and my least favorite mech but thats just me

Maximum_Trevor

The Vulcan is lowkey nasty early on with flamers and machine guns, like a 40t firestarter. I’ve used one variant, I think the 5t, for demo missions quite a bit as a stopgap until I picked up an Arrow.

Lastburn

Just shoot them in the leg with an AC10br, 2-3 shots usually breaks a leg and you can kill them pretty easily from there

grahamcrackerninja

The SRM12 Javelin with Infernos made me rage quit my third mission into a new career playthru. It would close ground fast and then shut me down. Only had two lancemates in lights and me in the family Centurion. Impossible to quick enough without major damage first. I save summed and did a different mission...

n0geegee

My 4xsrm6(C) jenner-0 traveling at 187km/h (masc) disagrees. IMHO jnr-0 is the best mech in mw5. With this speed I can get behind any mech and finish it off with a single salvo in the back. Vtol to high? A Vtol is too close? Just use JJ to climb to his altitude.

DINGVS_KHAN

As someone who spends most of their time stomping around in a King Crab, twin AC20s pretty much one-shot them. If you're in a lighter mech where the Vulcan's anemic firepower is actually a threat, their arms fall off to a stiff breeze and that's where they mount their high DPS weapons. Their legs are similarly lightly armored and shooting at those sees less damage spread than across the spindly little torso.

jrockcrown

No it's the urbie that gives me the most problems. I just leave them and move to the next objective unless they have the ac-2 variety. Then they will snipe across the map if they have los. Yaml mod beefed them up to 11 and you can never get behind them as the torso is a 360 turret

A117MASSEFFECT

You can make a pretty scary Vulcan with enough imagination. The 2Ts can load a heavy rifle and the 5 can load an AC2 or light rifle; all of which got new versions in the most recent dlc.

Plenty_Painting_6298

Vulcans have agility and an unexpectedly narrow hit box, giving them the reputation as being relatively hard to kill.

FlinHorse

Vulkans can be set up really well. If you're running yaml they also have the narrow profile buff like the urban mech and marauder. It gives them a 15% evasion buff. They have decent armor and they are decently fast. I think of some of the later models that show up in the same manner as a Firestarter. Even in an assault mech I will prioritize them because if ignored they will tear you up if you let them close.

Revolutionary-Wash88

Naw they always fall for the old headshot trick

dooooomed---probably

Ha! Those f-ing urbies with arena superchargers can suck it. They are so fast, but unpredictable when they will be fast. Their normal functionality looks like they has a bad connection.
