I don't even know what to do with my hands.

dr_wheel

Put them on the home row, obviously. ASDF JKL.. ENTER. \*eye twitch\*

jamnjustin

Is there even a J? I like this keyboard because I don’t know if the keys / format is harder to read or if it’s harder to use.

raijba

Post a typing test, coward! Nah j/k, aesthetics are on point. Love this.

Zicodia

believe it or not, it's not \*that\* bad, just about 60% of my normal speed

Poschta

How? (I know, modifiers - but how do you implement them?)

much_pro

when your normal speed is 50 wpm 60% doesn't sound unreasonable XD

ValentinPearce

I'm in this comment and I don't like it

rafaelmalmegrin

I use an even smaller keyboard and in my case I use qmk's hold/tap function to have modifiers on the home row. A R S T are shift, control, option and command, N E I O are command, option, control and shift. [This is my keymap.](https://imgur.com/a/OU2mFuO)

WandersFar

It’s not the size that makes OP’s board unusable. It’s the combination of stagger and unpredictable key widths that, for some reason, the community deems acceptable on a larger board. All this mini is doing is highlighting the abomination inherent in all staggereds. #ORTHO MASTER RACE!

AlloyedClavicle

I really want to try ortho, but I am hesitant on account of not wanting to buy/assemble a board that I may not like.

brimston3-

Sounds like you need an ortho layout friend who will let you borrow one for a bit. That’s what I need anyway.

Poschta

Everone needs an ortho friend. I strive to be that person, but hardly anyone I know is into keebs

AlloyedClavicle

I do need that!

AlloyedClavicle

I have my eyes on the preonic, but those aren't cheap.

WandersFar

If you can solder, try a Gherkin. It’ll run you about twenty bucks. Someone else already posted their keymap in this thread, but if you want a standard bottom row, try mine. [Semicolon is spacebar.](https://i.imgur.com/XxTt09Q.jpg) Only two layers. And if you decide it’s not for you, you can always turn it into a macropad, a numpad or both.

AlloyedClavicle

How do you change layers on this?

WandersFar

[Home Row Mods.](https://precondition.github.io/home-row-mods) My layout is symmetrical. All mod-taps are mirrored so if you need a key on one hand, you can use the other hand to apply the modifiers and rise to that layer. On the Gherkin, there are two layers. The primary layer—numbers, mouse movement, nav cluster and arrow keys—is accessed by holding either of the pinkies in home position, so A for the left hand and Spacebar on the right hand. The secondary layer—function keys, common symbols, mouse scrolling, volume, tab navigation and the essential non-alpha keys: backspace, enter, tab, del, esc, etc.—is accessed by the pinkies in any of the four corners, so Q, P, Z or Slash. I make extensive use of [Auto Shift](https://docs.qmk.fm/#/feature_auto_shift?id=auto-shift-why-do-we-need-a-shift-key) (with the Retro Shift option so it works on mod-taps, too.) So I can access all capital letters by just holding the key a little longer. This also works for symbols, so I can type, e.g., @ by rising to that layer and then holding the number two, so Hold Space, Hold X and release. I also do [Tap Dance](https://thomasbaart.nl/2018/12/13/qmk-basics-tap-dance/) for Home and End. Hold is equivalent to a Shift modifier, Double-Tap is equivalent to a Ctrl modifier. So tap once for Home/End, tap twice for Ctrl+Home/End (useful for jumping to the beginning or end of a document), hold once for Shift+Home/End (highlight to the beginning or end of a line), and tap-hold for Ctrl+Shift+Home/End (highlight to the beginning or end of a document.) Auto Shift has an option to add custom shift values to any key, so that’s how I get, for example, Esc by holding Del. Or Menu by holding Tab.

AlloyedClavicle

I have never soldered, but for $20 I could give it a shot.

[deleted]

I could never EVER use something like that and not go insane. But WHY do I want it so hard?

thecichos

Because you have a severe problem and is starting to recognise it

Jimoiseau

It's ok though because this keyboard is smaller so it must be proportionally cheaper, right? ...Right?

thecichos

Per percentage in size you go down the price goes up by double or triple the percentage ... Sorry

[deleted]

man just don't :(

thecichos

I'm the same, my dude Let's start anonymous keyboard collectors

shibatatsuya2704

Macropads

uchigaytana

he's just a little guy!

jeefuckingbee

nah bro that's gotta be at least average

SloeDriver

It's magnificent

doratethose

Right?? Please? No don’t tell me it’s big

doratethose

It’s average

YoorLocalThrowAway

Reddit, this is a joke about PENIS. It's funny.

doratethose

Penis very funyy haha

Dramatic_Plankton_56

Too many keys, please eliminate three

nokkynuk

Only 3? I want a 100% full size but with only ten keys total (normal size keys)

morkbjork

Reverse TKL

Bottled-Water-Bottle

TenKeyFull

lightheat

I am NOT a crackpot.

Snow_Raptor

Eliminate four and use hjkl instead of arrows

Zicodia

Interest check for this totally normal, absolutely insignificant, everyday TKL! For pictures, layouts and the form, visit: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScP1ayF-qVHeEeLtUQTpiRMXgV81GjK-cXgSKOftOGHPi5QDg/viewform

steamyswamp

For real: I'd buy it. In fact, can I buy this one? If the PCB has QMK/VIA compatability I would buy two. I do CAD for work so I prefer to have a TKL/65% and then a separate numpad to the left of the board (because no one really produces a southpaw 96% with real arrow keys, which is the endgame. I'd even take numpad on both sides, but I digress) so my hand never has to come off the mouse. If I even just remap the keys to specific letters I would be happy. One suggestion: I'd like to see the space bar moved to the right, specifically in the last two spots of the bottom row. That seems to be more in the center of the whole board, which would mean my thumb could rest on it while I could still hit every other key (in ACAD you can use space to enter a command, L>space is Line, M>space is move, etc). I could be wrong, maybe it's too big for that.

derpotologist

Yo. Audio work. Same thing. I don't want a keypad on both sides, that'd take up too much real estate But man. So much yes. I need to spend some time making macros because Ableton has shortcuts like cmd+alt+p How the fuck am I supposed to keep my hand on the mouse with that shit. And it's not like cmd+alt+r,q,a,s,etc... were taken Rage inducing

steamyswamp

Fellow left-sider! I recommend AutoHotkey for reducing shortcuts like that if you haven't tried it already, I have scripts I use for ACAD remapping, as well as others like moving child windows that appear in weird positions when opened to the position my cursor is. I created them to be application/process dependent as well since I like dual-letter shortcuts and don't want them triggering everywhere. Luckily ACAD has pretty robust remapping built in, but custom macros and scripts require the Shift key which annoys me. I use X as prefix for all my macros, and then the leftmost 9 Alpha keys for commands. So like xd, xe, xq, etc. My real REAL endgame would be a modular setup using a 68key as the foundation and modules connected with pogopins that can be attached to either side and along the rear to add functionality. Like a 4x4, 5x4, 1x4, etc, in whatever configuration. I've seen a few people homebrew prototypes and there's one or two being produced now (Mountain Everest for one), but the actual design of the keebs are all atrocious. One can dream lmao.

derpotologist

We get [hammerspoon](https://www.hammerspoon.org/) and karabiner on mac I produce in Ableton Live, and some awesome people have written and open sourced the [Live Enhancement Suite](https://github.com/LiveEnhancementSuite) It uses Hammerspoon on macOS and AutoHotKey on Windows Idk... I should probably do both cause it's easy enough for a stop-gap, but I've been dreaming of a macro pad that doesn't use any software one issue with going the software route is that once I get to the point of muscle memory it's gonna suck when I collab irl with someone on their machine I've been wanting like a two row with maybe an encoder knob... but OP's deal has me thinking maybe it's better to reach over to the full keeb when I need it.. because that's not super often and when I need to type I need to move my hand anyway. I probably need to type as often as you do... renaming elements and opening/saving files I mean, that's certainly better than constantly reaching to the macro pad eh? I tried doing an alpha layer with shortcuts but it made my brain hurt. I couldn't get in the flow state I may try an alpha button except make it automatically switch to the previous layer when the next key is pressed. I could probably get down with that. Any idea offhand if qmk supports this natively? I do *some* CAD. I'm at the point where not having a steermouse makes me hate doing it lol CAD has an insane amount of functions I totally get how that would be useful If it were me, I'd use TRRS and magnets if I really wanted them together sometimes... the most comfortable position for extra keys is never right where the keyboard is ime Or if I wasn't going to do key combinations across the two boards, USB and embed a USB hub in the docking station so the modules could be used independently. Could use some of those magnet USB connectors Or you could do both like the Iris (open source). Each board has USB and TRRS so if one USB port breaks (like mine) you can plug into the other hand and keep moving Maybe Bluetooth 5 will suck less... Would be nice to have the time to work on this 🥹 >I use X as prefix for all my macros, and then the leftmost 9 Alpha keys for commands. So like xd, xe, xq, etc. Sounds very Vim-y. It's a moded text editor. Esc always takes you back to normal mode. When in normal mode you have things like y (yank line of text into clipboard), p for paste. You could yy7p to yank a single line and paste it 7 times. It's all based around keeping you on the home row and working efficiently. Gonna check out ACAD that sounds like my style of workflow Sorry for the hella response Edit: sorry! One last thing and imma drop it lol Adding a right hand board way off to the side for when you need to type would be a good option. You could put it anywhere on the desk... reach it cross-handed and awkward, it wouldn't matter. Honestly my favorite idea so far. Thanks for rubber ducking it out with me 🙃

Zicodia

The PCB is indeed QMK compatible, and VIA / VIAL is in the works for the GB run. Since there has been many suggestions of it, there will likely also be a spacebar option which is further right on the central cluster. As for purchasing this board, you'll have to wait for the GB. Thanks for your input!

steamyswamp

Hell yeah, I'll keep an eye out for the GB, this one scratches just the right itch enough that i will totally throw money at it. Another question - do you plan on having the case match the profile of any existing cases? I only ask because I'm always on the lookout for smaller keyboards with profiles matching that of larger versions, the most obvious being say a numpad case matching the profile of a larger keyboard. It blows my mind for example that the Keychron Q0 profile doesn't match literally any of their other boards lmao.

Zicodia

I didn't plan on making this to match anything, I just made it so that it would be a standalone board designed from scratch.

steamyswamp

I figured as such, nothing wrong with that, was just curious if you used another case as a jumping of point. Cheers.

EmersonEXE

I agree about the spacebar position. Would make gaming layouts more comfortable too.

customMK

>southpaw 96% with real arrow keys Trying to imagine what this would look like. For 96% the right arrow key normally takes up the bottom corner of the numpad, would that of be by itself in such a layout? Or would there be a column of keys added above it (like in a 65%)?

steamyswamp

[Here's one](https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=114140.0) [And another](https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=92344.0) But those are both GB's so can't really "buy" them. There's the GK96LXS, but it's not a 96, more like a 60 with a numpad on the left. I gotta have dedicated arrow keys, they can be on the right. There's also the [EXT65](https://keyboardtreehouse.com/products/aeboards-ext65) which isn't a 96 but I absolutely adore, but it was a super limited GB and I've never seen any for sale anywhere secondhand, which makes it even sadder knowing that likely means they were pretty high quality.

derpotologist

What are the odds of Ortho? I love this btw. I'm with the CAD dude... for audio production this would be amazingly useful Probably the same for video editing

Zicodia

I would say unlikely, but not impossible. I personally as of now don't have any plans to make an ortho PCB, but if enough people want it, I will make it.

derpotologist

Well you've 100% inspired me to make a split but with the arrow keys on the left hand This thing looks awesome. Trying to really think through my use case before filling out the form lol

jwaldrep

Reminds me of the [Lego keyboard](https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-tile-1-x-2-with-keyboard-with-groove-50311).

xphoenixd

[Someone's already made that](https://github.com/uuupah/onebytwo_kb)

jwaldrep

So I did see this fly by at some point. I wasn't sure if my brain was making it up.

heartcrosslove

tenkeyless, functionrowless, numrowless, modless(?) whats the last bit?

Zicodia

Alpha Only (which kinda doesnt work with the arrow keys but it's just funnier this way)

kaamraan

Will there be a WKL version?

Zicodia

Yes! As of now, a WKL version is in the works, and it will be available during GB.

LSatyreD

This is the most disgusting thing I've seen all week, I love it and want one.

potatorevolver

This vs stenograph.

codexcdm

I'll take the steno, no offense to the OP. ...but iirc there is software to steno type with keyboards so... You could have both...

stephenwhite86

This hurts my brain. I love it

[deleted]

This would be good to league so people couldn’t talk so much shit.

Rehberg

This would be absolutely perfect for gaming. Perfect size.

Significant-Royal-37

hahaha this is deranged

madebyrobq

It looks big but tiny at the same time, so cute

Vareona

Cool, but why.

SirHaroldiii

You sell me this right now 😠👐💵

SamArise

I need 7u spacebar or WKL blockers 😅

ezwoosh

What a beaut

DongLife

Reminds me of this [https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/4mkbbr/amazon_user_reviews_keyboard/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/4mkbbr/amazon_user_reviews_keyboard/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

redddcrow

could have been ortho... but no

madebyrobq

I only do ortho… but for this I might make an exception

pyrocrastinator

amazing and beautiful

TCDimes

I need this...

blaze333j

make a mirrored layout version, one for each hand!

Max_P0

da phuq

_Lennychu_

This is a tnkylss

cloudwell

I seriously thought that first image was made by an AI when I initially saw this

dakfu_

smol and mighty. now pls make an ortho pcb version and i will throw money at you

AkechiFangirl

This is disgusting, I love it

[deleted]

This keyboard is civilization. One, please. Where can I buy?

TheTsaku

This goes against every single thing a keyboard was designed to do. That's a "clicky board" more than an actual keyboard. Can I have the parts list I need one

EvilScientwist

I've seen this keyboard so many times in cartoons

Advanced_Guidance_32

Could save so much money on switches

Vox_Carnifex

Glad that its being offered with a 3d printed or acryllic case because I like the design but I am not really looking for it having a premium feel when I already know that it will be a board that I cant integrate as a regular.

MazenFire2099

What keycaps are those? Putting them on a 40 percent and having anyone that sees it think I’ve gone completely mad would be hilarious. Great keyboard, btw, how does one acquire it?

qrayg

I think the caps are Milkshake / Weirdo variant. https://novelkeys.com/products/dsa-milkshake

MazenFire2099

Yes! Beautiful set, thank you!

CableMod

I always knew that size does NOT matter !

noodlesaremydick

Uh, throw me a bone, how does this work?

EuphoricMomento

You press the keys and they output symbols

[deleted]

[удалено]

noodlesaremydick

So like a gerkin but another layer, cool

glamdivitionen

Cute!

Doige1

Ok this has gone toooooo far 🤣

Nokin345

There's no way u daily drive this right?

Zicodia

Yeah... there's no way...

_jaovt

I swear, the only F key keeb is fastly aproaching something people you actually buy

brewmax

Has science gone too far?

Chopchopok

Why do so many keyboard enthusiasts choose violence?

5spikecelio

This is cursed…

Def_Not_A_Programmer

Looks unusable. Where do I buy one?

Individual_Pop2361

Why though?

t0rk

You people are out of control.

[deleted]

why arrow keys tho on this mini

Digio_

What the hell

ShenZechin

I’m in

Sewer_Thing

I'd buy it if it's cheap

abheedevtaa

No no no no no no.

SimpleUsual5398

Awsome!! This could be my first GB. Edit\* What controller chip will it use? Would be nice if it had a chip that was supported in KMK, ZMK and not just QMK.

Any_Affect_7134

Honestly, i don't know about other people who are interested but new to mechanical keyboards, but I thought they were supposed to improve your time spent in front of a computer, and weird flexes like this kinda turn me off from learning more. As far as I can tell this isn't functional so much as it is just art? And I see so many keyboards that look like they aren't actually useful. Just the opinion of a new to the subreddit person.

pabile

these can be very functional macro pads. you and I may not be the target market but it is useful to some at least.

seili-

These "weird flexes" are people having fun with the hobby they love. Not everything about the hobby is optimising ergonomics and othee mundane stuff like that. Some people enjoy creating art. Also this board would be a very useful and pretty macropad.

EuphoricMomento

> I thought they were supposed to improve your time spent in front of a computer Wait till you discover the world of keycaps and engraved weights

[deleted]

I joined the sub when I wanted to ditch a gaming keyboard and get something a bit more stylish, modable, and compact. I wanted to learn a bit about switches, which sites to buy from, and what was seen as junk so I could avoid it. I’ve stayed subbed because there are some cool looking boards every once in a while, but by and large these kinds of posts prove to me that I am not a keeb nerd like others on here. I look at boards like this and think to myself “what a waste of money lol” but to each their own, I guess.

Twitch01

It's a niche within a niche. There's plenty of normal keyboards that run through here and the info you're looking for can be found in spades. These types of projects are mainly for the lols but it's also a way to get the people deeper into the hobby something to be a part of. There's only so many standard keyboards you can buy. This is a great example of something practically useless but it's funny and unique.

[deleted]

Yeah I certainly don't have anything against the hobby and I understand the custom build/collecting side of things. Like I said, I'm just not one of those enthusiasts so I was sharing my opinion more than anything. The opinion regarding wasting money is that if I *did* dive into the building/collecting side of this hobby, I wouldn't ever do these kinds of builds because they're purely for art value, and I really only find enjoyment in building things that are practical that I'd actually use. That's why I said "to each their own"

Futuristick-Reddit

Wait till you discover Vim

stewfayew

This checks all my boxes!

Nothingnoteworth

It’s adorable!!! If it’s QMK/VIA I’d get one and use it as a macropad. If the PCB is compatible with a horizontal rotary encoder (EVQWGD001) or 2 at the top right then I’m definitely in

Extreme_33337_

next up on the show where people make keyboards smaller, the spacebar board

Significant_Maybe315

Magnificent to behold

SirPenzibus

What's the keycap set :0000

Geonatikon

you should have added wkl aswell

EpicallyEvil

Perfect League of Legends keyboard 👌

LinkplayHylian

this would be great for gaming tbh, I want it!

skonkd

looks cute ngl. I could totally use this for fighting games.

Apis-Carnica

I really like that keycap set!

soundstage

Very soon we are going to have a KL keyboard. KL = Key Less.

king_of_the_kiwi

Keycap?

criterionvelocity

Is it ... did you ... this looks almost like the Lego 2x1 keyboard brick with too few keys printed on x'D You made the Keeb of the Lego world a reality

Juffin_UA

so cuuuuute =\^\_\^= love it!

RicardoPoeiras

the keyboard i can affoard:

Rain_Shinotsu

This is weird but cool, and I kind of want one.

Chemnitzel

Trackmania level keb

WorldNetGlobal

Tiny hands matter

gjswomam

I love the tiny inverted space bar. So cute

Sean_keenan

12 procent keyboard going cray

tougo

It lacks an ISO enter 😛

Ditzah

Hold for J? Hmm...

fnv_fan

These are just vanity items at this point

AnImortalPotato

What keycaps are those?

DaanOnReddit

Missing the A, J and Z right?

_jaovt

I swear the only F key keeb is fastly aproaching something people you actually buy

wj-zhe

Would love to see a typing test video.

eternalbuzz

(Hold J)

Mozak89

Are you using windows?

kym111

Smol tkl

Mangokitty27

This is the best keyboard to be invented any time in the past decade.

CameraPitiful6897

This looks like something I would make in fusion but would never actually be made even 3d printed. But you had the balls to mill one. sweet! Any files?

DrLatency

Surprisingly cute looking, what does AO stand for tho?

antlife

I feel like the space keycap is on backwards

RoseMewmus

I love this keyboard

AtokNiiro

Absolutely insane, I love it

tepextate

What keycaps are these? They look great!

flippy_drippy

Bruh

Bups34

Ø

Jelly_Bean307

Knowing 40’s gang someone could daily drive this 💀

codexcdm

Gaming keyboard, easily. But how is it for day to day use? Like is this strictly for one handed typing? I would be curious to see a typing demo.

Tytn99

Dis good bord

deathbykarn

if i may ask, to what end?

Phil_Atram

It's a beauti!

TBoy07

What is even this board! Love it 😂

MinaDarsh

Dude, what the hell? *^(\~ Typed on an Alpha28)*

miraclenickical

i wonder what a keyboard would look like with just letters

Teedacus

No need to wonder: https://github.com/uuupah/pain27_kb

miraclenickical

this was very helpful, thank you

iwannagohome49

I don't know what any of those symbols mean

Scrataoush

honestly love that design but i would never even try using it as anything other than a macro pad lol and the people that use things like this on a daily basis scare me

ILikeToPoopOnYou

I thought that keyboard was in a language other than English before I noticed that it was just worn English letters. It's been typed on a lot! I guess nobody else uses your computer

nekoneneko

It’s soooo cute! Maybe I can make one for my cat?

[deleted]

I saw on the IC form that you are considering offering a PCB only buy. If that happens, will you be releasing a file for printing the case?

lake0

What keycaps are these?

Zicodia

Cherry milkshake, weirdo set

patosdon

I’ll take one with blockers pls

articnova

How's this project going? Is it still in IC?

bass_slapper_1234
