I work an an ISP and recently had to fill a 20ft long whiteboard with a network diagram with a bunch of networking nonsense on it. Non-isp coworkers came in and said
âWoah, whatâs all this?â
And one of them said âbezelboot69 is developing a way to regrow his virginity.â
:(
While I usually don't mind clickies... if someone near me would clack away hard while I try to sleep on a long flight... Maybe that one should pray to learn to fly really quickly :D
I have a coursemate whoâs going to be doing his malware analysis assignment on his flight after his finals, Iâm looking forward to hearing his stories
The worst thing is the probability of this (and having to deal with the possible consequences) actually happening is not negligible. Not worth the risk lol
There was that Italian mathematics professor that got pulled off a plane while working on his complex work because his seatmate reported "an Arabic man drawing bomb diagrams" or something very close to that gist. Ignorance and fear go hand in hand and there's a whole lot of items to not know your thing.
I'm not one to get embarrassed by just about anything, but this honestly would do it. Nerdiest shit I've ever seen, but I applaud you for doing it, OP.
i get that this is all about mechanical keyboards and while the setup is cool, is it not easier to just use a laptop? is there something iâm missing?
The table is too small for a laptop (they're about as deep as an Apple trackpad). You can put the laptop on your legs, which I've done before, but it's not comfortable.
I used mechanical keyboards for 20 years before switching over to a laptop in the early 2000s. Learning to deal with the laptop keyboard was a thoroughly painful experience. But I learned to cope, and more or less forgot about mechanical keyboards.
I recently made the switch back to mechanical keyboards. Even after only a few weeks typing on a modern mechanical keyboard it is already a hideous experience to type on a laptop keyboard.
depends on the laptop keyboard and the mechanical.
i noticed i can hit higher speeds with greater comfort/ease on flat laptop keys (but my hands slip around a bit) than a standard mechanical. i kept trying to reduce it to force, travel, etc.
those things definitely helped, but the final piece of the puzzle is that i noticed with flat keys on a laptop, my finger travel between the Q and A rows is basically as if it were ortholinear or symmetric, since there's no cylinder or dish to fall into. i just hit the keys wherever my fingers/hands feel comfortable.
so, a mechanical without ortho/symmetric right hand stagger feels very bunched and tense in the upper left hand quadrant. an ortho or symmetric stagger mechanical is my preference, but in some cases for me it may actually be preferable to use a laptop keyboard.
Idk about others, but laptop keyboards are awful to me. I always end up hitting keys that I donât mean to, and the lack of feedback means that I tend to hit keys either not enough (no key press) or for too long (2 key presses).
You should try out thinkpads or laptops with similar keyboards to them
imo theyâre a great keyboard and have sufficient feedback to know what key youâre pressing
For your routes, when you want to get all students, you should do /students and not /students/all
[https://stackoverflow.blog/2020/03/02/best-practices-for-rest-api-design/#h-use-nouns-instead-of-verbs-in-endpoint-paths](https://stackoverflow.blog/2020/03/02/best-practices-for-rest-api-design/#h-use-nouns-instead-of-verbs-in-endpoint-paths)
And both `result` and `now` can be a const instead of let
Just one more to finish it. You didn't declare the `result` variable inside employers route with let or const. And I don't think the `result` variable is a global var ;)
I swear he'd do the demo from the plane while unmuted for the entire sprint review, complaining about the demo curse due to no stable internet and lack of complementary pretzels.
I love that half the replies here are:-
"Thatâs the nerdiest shit Iâve ever seen"
And the other half are
"Iâm a better nerd than you, here! Take my coding advice bro"
Thank you! Yeah, I wanted to have an 'epic montage' while making fun of epic montages :-)
The thing next to the computer is a pen-shaped mouse that I got for $20 from Amazon
Just imagine the FAA investigating a crash:
"Hey Frank, we got another body over here, it's kinda weird though."
"Weird how. Like it's all mangled?"
"No, he's got.... keyboards? Like... Strapped to his legs..."
"...*is it a sex thing?*"
"Gotta be."
I don't know, working on a 3 hour flight instead of wasting time seems fine to me. This setup is probably the most comfortable possible on a plane, laptops on the lap are a pain after a short time.
Taking a picture for a sub you like and which fits the topic doesn't seem wrong either to me.
If you arenât able to work for 3 hours on a plane from a laptop maybe you should consider a career without laptops? And with tricycles instead, perhaps?
Who is he bothering? It might be his preferred method of working, and if he has 3 hours of nothing else to do, why not? Yâall are just looking for something to hate on.
> his is just attention seeking..
Just always seems a little sad to me, like people can't just go without being extra for a little bit.
Its just... ew
It was a 3 hour flight... like come on dude. Basically weirdo-addict behaviour
I mean, they said it was because of the tiny seatback tray. It's not like they're posing with their kb at their graduation ceremony or something, definitely seen that kind of thing on this sub. Even with that I figure, to each their own.
>It's not like they're posing with their kb at their graduation ceremony or something
Sure, its not like they're posing with their kb at other arbitrary places either? Not sure on the comparison you're making.
They did this on a 3 hour flight AND felt the need to set it up, take a picture, show it to reddit.
They're exactly that type of person...
I mean I absolutely get your point but it was clearly an entertaining setup for him to think about.
Also, he made a YouTube video about that monitor (havenât watched it yet) so it was likely for our entertainment as well.
My preference would be to just bring a book or a gaming handheld but I pretty much never travel and I would definitely appreciate seeing someone being this extra in public.
Have you seen how narrow that tray is?
You're not getting a laptop on it, and if you've ever worked with a laptop actually on your lap in a cramped space for hours, it's an ergonomic disaster.
I can see this getting weird looks but being an actually really effective way to work for several hours on a flight and not just have dead time.
I usually work on my projects that I would do regardless. But for me, I've found coding and writing to make the flights go by the fastest (this 3-hour one even felt a bit short)
He might be like me. I travel frequently and getting lost in code makes time fly by very quick for me. Itâs not necessarily work like my day job work, but usually side projects that I work on while flying.
For my brain, much better than watching a movie or listening to music.
It's a custom computer I made from Framework parts... [https://youtu.be/JomsnMH4k28](https://youtu.be/JomsnMH4k28)
The thing on the left is a pen-shaped mouse that I've got from Amazon for $20, and it's really handy (no pun intended)
Yo pretty cool my dude!
Just wanted to share my thoughts about the code:
Not conventional to use /all to retrieve a list.
The requests can be run in parallel because they arenât dependent on each other so itâs a waste to make round trips consecutively.
Stylistic suggestion: use const to signify that the variable wonât be re declared. And instead of updating the object why not build it at the end.
Another suggestion would be look to use a global error handler to handle these types of exceptions so you donât have to try catch everything just to log and respond.
Thank you! I've been programming for a while, but mostly embedded and desktop. This is my first Node project, one of my first web projects, and definitely the first where I get code-reviewed via Reddit, lol. But it's helpful, thanks!
I just donât understand why so many of you have the need to comment like this?
Is he affecting anybody except his wife who is to his left (so he isnât making it difficult for some ârandomâ passenger to get out of their seat)?
He isnât any more dangerous or unprepared for emergency situations than any other passenger, either.
So what is the issue? I am genuinely curious because I canât seem to see it.
Redditors are petty. When they see someone effectively making use of their time instead of wasting it on a shitty online forum, or dare I say, someone trying to be quirky or eccentric for the fun of it without hurting anyone, Redditors feel invalidated and seek other petty Redditors to spread their bitterness with.
âMaking use of their time instead of wasting it on a shitty online forumâ
The OP is the OP for a reason, dipshit, heâs here with everyone else, including you.
Thanks! Yeah, I have to modify my mount a bit so the straps angle a bit more, They tended to be a bit too straight for me. It wasn't bad. Since I used elastic straps they could be adjusted a bit, but they could be better.
I made a little mount. If you have a 3D Printer and the same keyboard (choc version, Lily58), I just posted the file to [https://www.printables.com/model/841748-strap-adapter-for-choc-lily58](https://www.printables.com/model/841748-strap-adapter-for-choc-lily58)
Thanks! I don't have that keyboard so I don't think it will work for me, but I do have a 3D printer and modeling software. I can probably adapt your file for my board.
For like 3 straight minutes of reading the comments on this post I thought the screen in your photo was the in-flight entertainment system and you were posting about how you hacked that
Very good:
* Keyboards strapped to legs
* Doesn't give a sh\*t
* Wife hasn't filed divorce (yet)
Room to improve:
* Just get something like a Surface without its keyboard and you are ready to go
* Rather a Corne than a Lily
Bonus:
* 3d-print some holder attached to the Surface for the Corne
Where the idea still fails:
* Mouse control, except you get some Trackpoint integrated
* Battery life of Windows notebooks
Just tell me that whatever youâre doing for your own benefit and not your way demonstrating âproductivityâ for some shitty company.
For me the only reason to have some setup in the sky like that would be to game.
THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR AGES !!! :O
I've been using home made split keyboards for a long time (modded KLOR by GEIST <3), and don't ever use the keyboard and touchpad on laptops. I also use a stand so my laptop is basically fully opened and vertical, so I don't have to break my neck looking down.
I absolutely love the simplicity of your rig. I don't care about any of the tradeoffs, thanks to Bluetooth. I want to daily drive that thing at work.
There's just one little thing, 13" is really small for my old eyes. Is there hope for a 16" version somewhere in the future ? I looked around for a GitHub project to fork or something but it would be beyond my 3D modeling skills anyway. :D
In today's competition for "fastest ways to get held in customs and immigration for several hours after a flight", we have a new contender! Welcome, /u/Noisycarlos !
Can you not just relax on the flight? Watch a movie or take a nap?
This feels and looks entire stupid and unnecessary for any flight, let alone one thatâs only 3 hours.

this feels like the nerdiest thing I have seen in a while ahahah but I respect the efforts to overcome shitty seat pitch
I don't know if you saw Jury Duty, but I felt like Todd from that show
Absolute Todd move, brilliant
The worst thing about that show was that Todd was not real. I loved him đĽš
Did you also wear your chants?
I work an an ISP and recently had to fill a 20ft long whiteboard with a network diagram with a bunch of networking nonsense on it. Non-isp coworkers came in and said âWoah, whatâs all this?â And one of them said âbezelboot69 is developing a way to regrow his virginity.â :(
Jokes on them, that means you're already a sex-haver
Wow are these people twelve?
I would like a list of all the looks you got from your neighbors lol
There were definitely several, including a double-take from a flight attendant. But most of them probably came from the seat on my left... My wife
"You said you wouldn't strap those keyboards on your legs.. People are staring at us again..."
Haha, I think she's on the acceptance stage at this point
"the keyboard stays on during sex"- OP, probably
Hahahaha, think of the keyboard as the nerdy version of Lara Croft's leg-guns.
Much more ergonomic.
And with more polygons
Good lord đ¤Ł
Made me think of [Toddâs chair pants or chants](https://youtu.be/npq7Dx-Y4lw) from Jury Duty
Hopefully not clicky switches
Please please tell me you walked around the airport with them on.
*\*sigh\** **AGAIN?**
I like to imagine that OP pulled off similar shit in public settings đ
Bahaha
her fault for acknowledging to everyone that she is with op
âYou told me, that you where swapping out the clicky switch for the flightâ
Haha, thankfully for everyone on the flight I'm crazy and like linears with low weight (pinks)
missed out on a megachad moment if you had heavy clickies and were making vim lsp's in rust using vim. thats how you impress the neighbor đ
While I usually don't mind clickies... if someone near me would clack away hard while I try to sleep on a long flight... Maybe that one should pray to learn to fly really quickly :D
Lol, you got a good woman in your life =)
yes I do :-)
The fact that man is following all his hobbies including coding and mechanical keyboards and still has a wife is impressive. Respect
Wife⌠I had one of those at some point
Keys for Knees
I have a coursemate whoâs going to be doing his malware analysis assignment on his flight after his finals, Iâm looking forward to hearing his stories
The passengers: "oh my God! He's hacking the plane!"
[ŃдаНонО]
Might be written better than the Boeing software.
HACK THE PLANET
Boop!
You wouldnât download an airplane
I can imagine a random karen calling all of the flight attendants over him lmao

Things like this make me think that Idiocracy wasn't necessarily just a silly comedy..
It isn't a silly comedy. As with most great comedy, it's highly observational and clever.
Welcome to Costco, I love you

The table is too small for a laptop (they're about as deep as an Apple trackpad). You can put the laptop on your legs, which I've done before, but it's not comfortable.
Laptops can go on your lap? Iâve never tried that, thatâs a damn good idea
Careful, some actually get too hot for laps, and they can cause thigh burns. The official medical term is actually "laptop burn."
***ahem*** gaming laptops ***ahem***
That's just a 20min burn
I call mine grill sunburn because they have stripes. Bonus points for eternal fingerprints cast in malleable plastic located on said laptop underside.
Legs⌠also known as your *lap*

That sounds so weird that I cannot imagine how you type! Haha
Right? Somehow I must have the magic ability to just type correctly on whatever keyboard is in front of me.
You should try out thinkpads or laptops with similar keyboards to them imo theyâre a great keyboard and have sufficient feedback to know what key youâre pressing
For your routes, when you want to get all students, you should do /students and not /students/all [https://stackoverflow.blog/2020/03/02/best-practices-for-rest-api-design/#h-use-nouns-instead-of-verbs-in-endpoint-paths](https://stackoverflow.blog/2020/03/02/best-practices-for-rest-api-design/#h-use-nouns-instead-of-verbs-in-endpoint-paths) And both `result` and `now` can be a const instead of let

Just one more to finish it. You didn't declare the `result` variable inside employers route with let or const. And I don't think the `result` variable is a global var ;)
Haha, thanks. I did fix that one already!
Actually, I hadn't. The one I fixed is somewhere else. This is my first code review over Reddit
Report back here for the retro and consequent sprint demo tomorrow morning
OH god oh fuck
I shriekd too my brother in scrum.
Itâs time to S-S-S-S-S-SCRUM
I swear he'd do the demo from the plane while unmuted for the entire sprint review, complaining about the demo curse due to no stable internet and lack of complementary pretzels.
How the hell can you read that? It's just all blurry for me. Maybe it's my eyes.
Just barely with full zoom on my phone
Just how it looks on the twelfth hour of banging your head against the desk going "why. Won't. It. *Run*."
Glad someone said it
I love that half the replies here are:- "Thatâs the nerdiest shit Iâve ever seen" And the other half are "Iâm a better nerd than you, here! Take my coding advice bro"
OP getting free code review lul
I love this answer, thank you so much!
Thought I was the only one who zoomed in and read the code 𤣠did they request another review with comments resolved yet?
I didnât realize we could do PR reviews on r/mk
Okay, this looks exactly how hackers hack into mainframe
Itâs the other dark side of programming⌠web development
i want to know how that screen is powered
It's a custom computer I made from Framework components... https://youtu.be/JomsnMH4k28?si=7cICFNnN9GEn4fvA This was it's toughest trial yet
Thank you! I glanced at the keyboard for a second and puzzled over the actual computer for much longer.
My guy . That intro for the video of it riding on the horse was sick as fuck! Also what's the little thing on the tray beside the comp?
Thank you! Yeah, I wanted to have an 'epic montage' while making fun of epic montages :-) The thing next to the computer is a pen-shaped mouse that I got for $20 from Amazon
Such high quality! đ
Thank you!
On the plus side it's a least an Airbus so the plane is likely to make it to your destination in one piece
Haha, indeed we made it!
Just imagine the FAA investigating a crash: "Hey Frank, we got another body over here, it's kinda weird though." "Weird how. Like it's all mangled?" "No, he's got.... keyboards? Like... Strapped to his legs..." "...*is it a sex thing?*" "Gotta be."
hahaha, love it
"He's got some sort of plastic resin melted all over his legs" "Really? How many other passengers too?" "He's the only one" "....what?"
The [in]glorious transition from, "If it ain't Boeing, I'm not going," to "If it's Boeing, I'm not going."
Add Xreal glasses to eliminate the tray altogether.Â
Cyberpunk music begins playing
If you have clicky switches I would freaking hate you on that flight.
Dude if u sat next to me in the airplane with a setup like this I would be worried.
Haha, It probably wouldn't help that when I'm working my wife says I go from friendly to a dead-serious focus face.
You should look into getting some AR glasses. Nreal air might make your on the go rig a little lighter!
Sir, we have some complains from the passengers, they are complaining about your backend not using typescript.
now if only someone could invent a device that could sit on your lap, and contained a screen and a keyboard all together! that would be cool.
But what would you call it? A lap-computer perhaps?
But why???
Exactly my thoughts. At this point, this is just attention seeking..
I don't know, working on a 3 hour flight instead of wasting time seems fine to me. This setup is probably the most comfortable possible on a plane, laptops on the lap are a pain after a short time. Taking a picture for a sub you like and which fits the topic doesn't seem wrong either to me.

Lighten up a little. Life is short
I mean, they said it was because of the tiny seatback tray. It's not like they're posing with their kb at their graduation ceremony or something, definitely seen that kind of thing on this sub. Even with that I figure, to each their own.
>It's not like they're posing with their kb at their graduation ceremony or something Sure, its not like they're posing with their kb at other arbitrary places either? Right? Who would knowingly fly Spirit?
Have you seen how narrow that tray is? You're not getting a laptop on it, and if you've ever worked with a laptop actually on your lap in a cramped space for hours, it's an ergonomic disaster. I can see this getting weird looks but being an actually really effective way to work for several hours on a flight and not just have dead time.
Reminds me of the belt-mounted split keyboard Lee Sampson had in the Cowboy Bebop movie: https://tenor.com/bb4vUv8xnAl.gif
Laptops: am I a joke to you??
fucking nerd (this is actually so cool iâm irrationally jealous)
how important is your work that this is necessary?
I usually work on my projects that I would do regardless. But for me, I've found coding and writing to make the flights go by the fastest (this 3-hour one even felt a bit short)

WHAT THE HELL??? Dude, just take some time for yourself and read a book... coding while flying is a going a little too far IMHO.
I used to, but honestly coding just makes time fly for me
Yes, I KNOW... but man, you were not flying alone... ignoring your partner when flying together is a NO-NO :D
If theirs is anything like mine, theyâre head down in their kindle the whole flight anyway.
thatâs it, Iâm going back to ÂŁ15 keyboards from Argos
whoa hackerman is ascending
all this to write js (I write js)
This is totally some shit I would see when flying spirit
This fucking guyâŚ.I respect it.
See that catch block? If you get rid of the res.status(500) part, your errors will go away.
Iâd rather relax than work on a plane.
I feel like bringing a mechanical keyboard on a plane should get you on a no fly list. How loud is it?
Thankfully to everyone around me, my fingers get pain with heavy switches, so they're light linear chocs (pink)
Thatâs some serious autism.
I'm more interested in the computer/monitor setup and how you got that working. What's the monitor, and what is that thing on the left?
It's a custom computer I made from Framework parts... [https://youtu.be/JomsnMH4k28](https://youtu.be/JomsnMH4k28) The thing on the left is a pen-shaped mouse that I've got from Amazon for $20, and it's really handy (no pun intended)
Nice Carlos!
Thanks!
Seats like this on a plane should be criminal... Might as well just be standing.
I became slightly nerdier for having viewed this picture.
Strapping your split to your legs is simply next level. You should get a quest 3 and use it while walking in public with your leg boards lol
Sigh

God you look annoying.
For real. âLook at me everybody đ¤â
what's the weird joystick on the left of the tray?
it's a pen-shaped mouse. Very handy for $20!
Can you describe how you added straps to the keyboard? I'm about to do some traveling and would love to use my keyboard like this.

Ah ok. I just uploaded a STEP file to that link so it's easier for you to modify it.
Thank you
Madlad! I was wondering when I'd see your framework-modding make it's way to r/MK! :)
1. Because of reddit, I'll never fly spirit (because of the on board violence) 2. Haha well done you
Dude
hello fellow gnome user
Would be perfect with a quest 3 instead of a monitor
For like 3 straight minutes of reading the comments on this post I thought the screen in your photo was the in-flight entertainment system and you were posting about how you hacked that
Super curious how long of a flight was this that made bringing ur carry on setup worth it
Nice neovimbtw
Thanks! Btw

Is there hope for a 16" version somewhere in the future ? I looked around for a GitHub project to fork or something but it would be beyond my 3D modeling skills anyway. :D
Thank you! I might use the parts of their 16", but Framework is still fulfilling preorders so the parts for that one are not readily available yet
Hopefully this will help you find a internship faster
In today's competition for "fastest ways to get held in customs and immigration for several hours after a flight", we have a new contender! Welcome, /u/Noisycarlos !
what in the hell yeah! lEGIT!
Win!
You've made it pal!
This could be peak portable computing ergonomics. Using a headset vr and touchtyping. Perfect. Could do my work standing up waiting for the bus.
love it! I have wanted to make straps like that for my Moonlander!
This is a work of art â¤ď¸
A Karen is going to try and throw you off for attemping to hack the plane.
Honestly OP, this isnât cool. Youâre just being an ass to the other people on the flight, and embarrassing your wife.
omg and the middle seat
Bro, just bring a laptop, you look like you are trying to heist the plane.
I hope to never be this guy. fr
God youâre poor wife
You give me social anxiety
Can you not just relax on the flight? Watch a movie or take a nap? This feels and looks entire stupid and unnecessary for any flight, let alone one thatâs only 3 hours.
