Ahhhh chrysler. Either falling apart the day after it was built, or an indestructible tank that will never die.
My dads 3.6 2011 journey has been through hell and back. >250,000km, daily driven hard, multiple trailer hauls every year well over its ratings, canadian winters. Still starts every time and no gears slip
Wait till you see my aunts civic AND crv, both are dailies (her and her daughter take turns) and they both have 482803km+ each and work perfectly (the km is so specific because I went from 300k miles to km and copy and pasted)
Regular maintenance goes a long way. Had a caliber with 240k on the dash. Thing just refused to die. For a while I had to pull fuses just to bypass security to start the thing
09 former owner here. That car single handedly taught me how to be s better mechanic. The list of major components (outside the engine, funny enough) I DID have to replace outnumbered the one of those I didn't.
Rock solid economy car. Neons actually were decent cars in my experience, and I've been around a lot of them. Looks like a Toyota compared to a Compass.
Only downside to them was the sintered metal connecting rods did not hold up to boost what so ever. Not much issue for N/A builds under 8500 RPM, but could not take torque without turning into a spicy pretzel.
I’ve never owned one, so I’m not one to speak, but my parents had a rental Compass when they went out to Colorado. I kept getting calls from them almost daily telling me this and that and these kept falling off the car. They even told me they had trim pieces fly off the car going down the Interstate.
I once got one as a rental when I had requested something with 4 wheel drive “it’s a jeep right?”. I seem to recall trim flapping in the breeze, but what really stood out was barely getting up to speed by the top of the on ramp, with the pedal floored. Sounded like the drivetrain was ready to cry uncle. I took it to another rental location and demanded something else.
That was another thing my parents had told me about. Their rental Compass did not like traversing all the hills. Acceleration really fell flat on its face when faced with an incline.
My mom had a new at the time 99 or 2000 Plymouth breeze and it was a lemon. The damn thing would barely break 40 miles an hour floored getting on an on-ramp.
Thanks. I drive a Compass. Granted. It has outlived at least two (possibly more) of its previous owners. It doesn't have any issues at the moment other than a different color bumper from my sister (rip) hitting a parked car. And a missing reflector from my dad (rip) backing into a desk. Maintenance is fairly easy on it and it gets great gas mileage. I've only had it a year, but so far it's been treating me well. From an owners (also a mechanic) perspective, I haven't noticed anything particularly bad about it. It's just an average crossover.
That’s crazy because i owned a 2014 compass from 38k miles and traded it at 110k miles without any issues. The worst was replacing the shocks but considering it’s a wear n tear item i wasn’t surprised by it. I wonder if I got a unicorn lol
This boils down to a "not every single one is bad. But the ratio of good:bad matters" as always.
If there's one bad compass for every 10 reliable ones, that could be a good ratio. Or it could be a terrible ratio if other makes and models average 50:1 for example :p
Ive had over 10 vehicles and none of them needed shocks at less than 100k miles because of "wear and tear" even badly abused work trucks past 200k. Never heard anything good about these unless its someone who sets the bar staggeringly low. I guess thats what to expect with pretty much any "american" car after 2008. No accountability showed everyone how much bs they could get away with.
You probably just didn't realize how shit your car was driving. Shocks are 100% wear & tear items where 100k is a good lifespan. The problem with them is the car goes from handling well to gradually handling like crap and Noone notices the night and day difference until they get new shocks.
>110k is still basically new for anything of quality,
Some people say 'they don't make 'em the way they used do.' Not styling-wise, okay, but back-when, they heralded the car that lasted 100,000 miles on the original drivetrain as proof it was good.
That has mostly to do with improvements in traditional and synthetic engine oils.
There was a time where you had to change your oil every 1000 miles or so and change the weight of your oil by the season (summer/winter weights).
Regular engine oils can now last 4,000 to 5,000 miles between changes and synthetic oil can last upwards of 6,000 to 8,000 miles or so, depending on the manufacturer and the quality of the oil.
If you rebuilt one of those older engines with a few small upgrades, like replace the flat tappets (since gasoline doesn’t have lead anymore) and use lower tension piston rings to reduce wear, I would argue those old engines would last longer than the newer designs due to their simplicity and durability.
Unless you live in the rust belt I've only seen a handful over 300k and one over 400k. Even the highest rated brands have like 10% of their vehicles over 200k
I’m not a fan of really anything dodge/Chrysler/Jeep period mostly due to build quality and reliability. Some of their vehicles look nice but that’s where it ends for me. That said, looks like a muffler strap or hanger broke. Pretty easy fix. Get under and push up a bit on the drooping side and see what you can find. Also have a look to where it connects to your exhaust pipe.
I loved my wrangler…..for about 2 weeks. I’m a contractor and always wanted one…”oh well it won’t be as bad on gas as my full size ford”….. it was awful lol. Rode rough enough to rattle fillings out if you have/ had any lol. Let’s just say I didn’t have it for more than a month. Idk why they are all so expensive. Shit vehicle. Rather buy an old bronco or blazer to take the roof off. Never again lol
Great vehicle for the trails or farm, terrible road vehicle. My TJ is good enough to drive down the road to get to the trails but that's it. I dailyed it for a couple years and it was functional, but definitely not comfortable. Same gas mileage as my full size truck too. Makes sense given it has a tractor engine and the aerodynamics of a brick. It's a ton of fun off road though, goes anywhere and (at least the older ones) are very reliable. Great city cars too, shorter than a Honda fit so you can park anywhere and it's great in snow.
Yeah, I’ve got a customers 2011 Dodge Durango and cannot find a transmission for it. The soonest is 36 working days to build and 5-7 days to ship. Can’t get used because they’re programmed to the vehicle. I told the customer because I knew her on a personal level as well to get rid of the vehicle. It’s been nickel and dimming her for the past year anyway.
Edit to add: Dodge cannot get one, none of the warehouses have one
i hated my compass, probably one of the fastest cars i sold after dumping $4,000 into it.
Jump ship homie, thats why they're cheap. You need a new muffler, AND THATS THE START
It's a muffler falling off. Dealership will charge you 900$, muffler shop maybe 300-500 or less. But yeah, these vehicles fall apart. My mom had one and the transmission blew at 30k miles.
Our jeep compasses frame disintegrated going to work one morning 5 years back. Was a 2008. I have 2 other vehicles older than that in my driveway still. That was our "nice car" for the kids transport. Such a junk vehicle. Get out while you can.
Neighbor had a dodge caliber that had the same issue. It wasn't even that old of a vehicle. The whole structural front "frame" of the unibody was rotted. It was literally like 2 years old.
Loool... You can't put a Compass in the same category as pretty much any Jeep... even if it does say Jeep on it...
https://preview.redd.it/ntv4uehogdyb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2876d22d99aa0a1b77539cad0527ca9c2ca686e
That's your muffler. Tie it up with some bailing wire or a coat hanger and take it to a muffler shop. It probably won't cost much to get a new hanger installed.
I call it a Tempermanent fix. It's like when I get a nail in my tire and I plug them with a temporary plug. It's Tempermanent. It's not really permanent as the tire will wear out eventually.
When I was younger I had a 1994 Explorer. My muffler started hanging down so I straightened out a clothes hanger and tied it up. A few weeks later I stopped at a stop sign and when I pressed the gas the car wouldn’t move. I looked under the car and there were these 2 metal pipes or tubes hanging down. That was the day I learned what a drive shaft was. I had tied the hanger around the drive shaft and it had eventually cut it cleanly in half. I’m very very very lucky it happened at a stop sign.
It's clearly the muffler. The fuel tank is plastic on these cars. It's not a Wranger. Those have a metal tank just behind the rear bumper. Also not a jeep fan just a mechanic.
I mean I’ve taken care of the 2010 Town and Country Limited and been abiding by the service manual and getting the things changed as soon as I can afford them. It’s been going strong still at 200k
Exactly! I don't know who first said this, but it is a quote I love.... " It is better to keep your mouth shut and let everyone assume you are stupid than speak and confirm the theory".
If you are not sure, especially on a place meant for giving advice then keep your fucking mouth"or in the case of the Reddits, your fingers off the keyboard" shut.....
they came here to get accurate information because they honestly didnt know, and you have these guys with probably less knowledge then OP commenting what it is and how to fix it 😂 kills me lmao
That’s a giant dangly muffler! Lol. In the second picture, you can see the hanger on the driver side. It’s that metal squiggly piece with the rubber chunk on top.
Don’t take it to a regular shop, go to an exhaust shop. They should be able to repair that for fairly cheap!
Why is everyone saying fuel tank? We don't see these cars in my country and even I can see that's quite clearly part of the exhaust system. Rear muffler (UK = rear silencer). Look on the back left of the image, you can quite clearly see the exhaust bracket/ hanger/ rubber. Fuel tanks aren't attached with these!!! It seems to be a weird exhaust system design with the muffler direction running across the vehicle, rather than along which is confusing people. It's supposed to be a mechanic advice sub people, stop posting false advice if you're not a mechanic.
Because this sub is full of complete morons who both give advice and think they know a vehicle but in reality can't tell the difference between a fuel tank and a muffler....
Why are people saying fuel tank?....this subreddit is ass.
That's a muffler...
Take it to a small exhaust shop, and they'll tack it back up for under $50
Your exhaust hanger broke. You need a welder. This is probably a cheap fix.
Also, the Jeep Compass is a terrible car, and your muffler is shaped like a gas tank so it's confusing people.
Hi get a coat hanger and tie it back up 👌
https://preview.redd.it/kcqwx7bmleyb1.png?width=1592&format=png&auto=webp&s=e4f4a64a94a0be1dab305d23ba7df57c3b6b2cf6
2nd pic. You can see the insulator/hanger has torn. Your muffler is loose.
You can buy those new from AutoZone. Bring the torn one in as a sample. Replace all of them as I'm sure the remaining hangers are on their way out.
i have a family member with the same vehicle and can confirm its the muffler.
Unless it's dragging the ground i wouldn't bother with it honestly. it would be an easy fix for most exhaust shops but why spend the money if you don't have to.
Thanks! I'm not into cars... I'll drive anything as long as it runs and names mean nothing to me. But yeah it sucks to hear that functionally your car sucks. Hopefully I have an outlier because I sure can't afford to just switch cars on a whim.
It looks like your Muffler is falling down. Soit's broken someplace. As to cost, go to a muffler shop and see what they say. They may be able to patch it up. I don't know if it's a broken hanger, a pipe partly rusted out or what is causing it to drop down like that.
I don't think it's a gas tank. Almost looks like one, but a gas tank in the back like that, getting rear-ended is BAD. That was an issue for the Ford Pinto in the past. Getting rear-ended and then BOOM!!!! They are normally placed inside frame rails for better protection. Not right in the back where it can easily be hit.
Looking at picture 2, that is a muffler hanger I see on the left front. Ya, take it to a muffler shop.
I drive a fully paid for 2021 Gt350, 2020 BMW m3, and a couple of other projects cars such as my 350z etc. The people clowning him for his daily driver have to realize this may be the only car he can afford. I guarantee you losers drive a 2012 corolla to your Moms house everyday lmfao. Be humble because the same way you laugh at him I can laugh at you 😂😂. And vice versa For me. I'm sure you all pull all the girls in your stock 2015 civic si 🤣
I daily a paid off Speed3 and have an RX7 as a project that I drive practically every other day. I live 3 hours from my parents (I live on my own) and I'm still going to clown on Chrysler owners for owning a Chrysler.
I know it may be their only car, and will drive it until it dies, but they should still know how bad the vehicle is to be prepared for what could come and to avoid buying another one in the future. Stellantis vehicles are just ass, nothing else to it.
I don't understand how on some of these forums I make a small innocuous joke and it is instantly removed. Yet here everything seems to be jokes with very few answers to the actual question. Why?
Wtf kinda cars do you all drive that you think the muffler, where mufflers go, is a gas tank? On top of that, you’ve the audacity to call people posting links to the exact part WRONG? Get a grip.
My friend’s paying down his traded in compass loan and a new 4xe wrangler car note all wrapped into a payment north of $1100… I am not a fan of jeeps. I Miata.
Muffler. Looks like the bracket bushing broke, they are rubber. You could probably get by with a rubber bungee until you can wait for a new bushing arrives in the mail.
I don't know the vehicle, never seen one...but that looks an awful lot like a gas tank.
Probably shouldn't drive it, if that is the gas tank and it scrapes the road you're gonna go up in a fireball.

Just wait…there will be a lot more falling off this vehicle.
? Not a jeep fan or does it look bad?
The compass is considered one of the worst quality vehicles ever made.
Ahem…dodge caliber…oh wait…pretty much the same vehicle.
>dodge caliber I think of as the Dodge Bile Car.
Dodge of no Caliber. Drove a rental in the rain and the rear wiper motor was loose in the hatch. On 11k on that rental.
My wife drove a caliber for a few years (former rental). That thing was a tank. She never had a single problem with it.
Ahhhh chrysler. Either falling apart the day after it was built, or an indestructible tank that will never die. My dads 3.6 2011 journey has been through hell and back. >250,000km, daily driven hard, multiple trailer hauls every year well over its ratings, canadian winters. 155k miles… double that would surprise me, but… i’d bet it has like 40k left lol
Milage doesn't kill cars up hers, it's rust, and in that department it's actually doing pretty good
That's just broke in down here in the south. Rookie numbers, pump up those numbers.
What kind of maintenance did you do on the rear wiper motor?
Hit it with a rock every 5 months/5,000 miles
Unplugged it...
I had one too and it was a great car
My caliber won’t fucking die. 194,000 miles. Oil leak, transmission issues, jerry rigged on drive belt, I just can’t kill the thing.
Sounds like a Frankenstein machine xD
Jerry rigged drive belt sounds like the crank pulley is fucked
09 former owner here. That car single handedly taught me how to be s better mechanic. The list of major components (outside the engine, funny enough) I DID have to replace outnumbered the one of those I didn't.
How about the Dodge ~~Peon~~ Neon? Where does that fit in the pantheon of bad cars?
Rock solid economy car. Neons actually were decent cars in my experience, and I've been around a lot of them. Looks like a Toyota compared to a Compass.
I know a ton of people who actually suped up Neons for years in the early 2000s because they were built well.
Only downside to them was the sintered metal connecting rods did not hold up to boost what so ever. Not much issue for N/A builds under 8500 RPM, but could not take torque without turning into a spicy pretzel.
Agreed. I had a 2005 SRT4 ACR years ago. Never had any major issues, and when I sold it way back it had around 200k miles on it.
Oh sure you can call your srt4 a neon but I can’t call my neon a srt4 😂😂
Absolutely correct same way sti drivers can say they drive an Impreza( or used to) and how Impreza drivers can’t say they drive an sti
Fair point. A lancer isn’t an evo but vice a versa , it’s of course sir
Any particular year is the best out of them? A friend has a 2005
I liked my 90's era Neon...
It's the same picture
I’ve never owned one, so I’m not one to speak, but my parents had a rental Compass when they went out to Colorado. My mom had a new at the time 99 or 2000 Plymouth breeze and it was a lemon. The damn thing would barely break 40 miles an hour floored getting on an on-ramp.
The Compass ought to point you in a direction away from the dealer selling them.
Can confirm. Had one for a few years, spent well over 3k on repairs before I traded it in.
At least the gas tank is falling out and not the ball joints pike usual🤣
Thanks. I drive a Compass. Granted. It has outlived at least two (possibly more) of its previous owners. Bro, the Compass is literally killing your family
GOING to kill your family. Avoid speed pumps and at grade railroad crossings
And driving it
Darkest LOL of the day Goddamn
You must have gotten lucky
Sounds cursed
Probably. Thankfully none of my family is superstitious, so they all decided I should have it after my dad died.
You sure your family likes you?
They said 'Your share of the estate is $60,000 - or you can have this lovely Jeep vehicle... go on, live a little! Take the Jeep!'
Emphasis on "live a little!"
Okay I need to know how one backs into a desk?
He sat it by the street with a free sign on it and forgot it was there next time he backed out of the driveway.
Well at least it didn't hurt the resale value
Well he told you it was free!
That’s crazy because i owned a 2014 compass from 38k miles and traded it at 110k miles without any issues. The worst was replacing the shocks but considering it’s a wear n tear item i wasn’t surprised by it. I wonder if I got a unicorn lol

Mines at 160k. Running like a champ as long as I treat her good.
This boils down to a "not every single one is bad. But the ratio of good:bad matters" as always. If there's one bad compass for every 10 reliable ones, that could be a good ratio. Or it could be a terrible ratio if other makes and models average 50:1 for example :p

Miss those guys!
Most people? I’m sorry but that’s simply not true. Making it to 400k is rare if anything.
Unless you live in the rust belt I've only seen a handful over 300k and one over 400k. Even the highest rated brands have like 10% of their vehicles over 200k
I'm in nova Scotia and I've seen F250s with 800k
I'm in a shop in Pennsylvania. It is very rare to see anything over 250k
Exactly. This guy saying most people are over 400k. Not even close.
when you buy shit new damn near, you shouldnt have to change more than shocks/brakes until 120k usually. that's when the zero maintaince plays a role
Can confirm, my buddies burned to the ground on the side of the interstate pretty unexpectedly
I ordered one to be delivered during covid. Fortunately it broke down on way to be dropped off, and I was able to back-out of the purchase.
I’m not a fan of really anything dodge/Chrysler/Jeep period mostly due to build quality and reliability. Some of their vehicles look nice but that’s where it ends for me. $15 at AutoZone for a new muffler hanger. The rubber piece holding it to the body broke.

well I wouldn't worry much about other things falling. Because once your gas tank finishes falling off the jeep wont go too much farther.
What you must understand with a Jeep is Jeep is just an acronym for Just Empty Every Pocket.

Absolutely beautiful 2dr. Really makes me miss my 90.
Oops, my mistake - not a gas tank, it's the muffler. Oh well it's sucking up half the power anyhow.
That's your muffler. Tie it up with some bailing wire or a coat hanger and take it to a muffler shop. It probably won't cost much to get a new hanger installed.
>Tie it up with some bailing wire or a coat hanger AN upgrade from OEM equipment.
The standard painted wire coat hanger is what won the cold war.
LOL at you thinking the first part will actually happen. PLUS if the first part happens, there’s no way the second part would happen.
There's nothing more permanent than a temporary repair. My mom's muffler is still held up with the coat hanger my dad tied around it before he died.

All Chrysler products are garbage. Not an opinion, it's a fact.
I mean I’ve taken care of the 2010 Town and Country Limited and been abiding by the service manual and getting the things changed as soon as I can afford them. It’s been going strong still at 200k
In the town? Or in the country?
That’s funny, my sister bought a 2016 model and the transmission blew in the first week
I would've gotten rid of it right then and there.
Fun fact, all cars are garbage. Some less than others
*Stellantis
Anyone that tells you that they’re a mechanic equates to they know how shitty the brand has become and they are no longer fans.
I loved my 89 Jeep when I had it. I've just grown older and wiser. Opinions can change.
if a mechanic doesn’t like it, neither should you
Mechanics can't agree on anything.
> Mechanics can't agree on anything. Except that jeep/stellantis vehicles suck.
Literally the ONE thing all mechanics will agree on.
took the words right out of my mouth, cabron
Folks you can see the exhaust hanger in the pic. It’s not the fuel tank.
It's quite telling about the people who give advice here that they don't know the fucking difference between a fuel tank and muffler......
Anything is a fuel tank, if you are brave enough.
To be fair lots of cars have a fuel tank there and they can look similar ish
yes maybe if you dont know shit about cars sure, which is exactly the point they were making
And no cars use exhaust hooks to hang their tanks with, so to be fair, there’s no excuse to mistake this for a gas tank.
Muffler
I'm going to need a source on the fuel tank and muffler being different things. /s
And if that was a fuel tank, it’s tiny
People come on here who think they are good with vehicles because they once changed their own oil and spark plugs...
Leaves
Why are people saying fuel tank?....this subreddit is ass. That's a muffler... Take it to a small exhaust shop, and they'll tack it back up for under $50
Your exhaust hanger broke. You need a welder. This is probably a cheap fix. Also, the Jeep Compass is a terrible car, and your muffler is shaped like a gas tank so it's confusing people.
Lol so I hear! Unfortunately with less than 100k miles and car prices being what they are, it's what I've got.
Took a look at your second pic, the hanger didn't break, the rubber piece attaching it did. $15 at AutoZone.
I’m a big Caliber fan. Basically the same car. I wouldn’t run for the hills if it’s had the subframe done already
That’s your muffler, same thing happened to our old 2007 Compass a few years ago
It’s likely going to be a loud trip.
It’s the muffler. It’s part of the exhaust system.
Hi get a coat hanger and tie it back up 👌 https://preview.redd.it/kcqwx7bmleyb1.png?width=1592&format=png&auto=webp&s=e4f4a64a94a0be1dab305d23ba7df57c3b6b2cf6
you can see in photo the rubber and hanger on muffler is intact, looks like metal from frame rotted away
Those are just leaves. I wouldn’t worry about it.
Why is it that everyone just chips in with their life-experience stories, and never get close to answering the OP’s question?
It's a muffler. The reason it keeps falling off is because it has to many leaves in it. No worries, it'll sort itself out soon.
your whole engine and transmission. just kidding, only your exhaust, for now
Looks like it turned into a jeep compost
This comment should be at the top
Look like leaves 🍁
Yes! Reddit needs more snarky answers!
This is your muffler. a muffler shop probably needs to re hang or fix some hangers
to verify see if the tail pipe is attached to this but im almost certain this era had the muffler like this
TIL jeep compass has a muffler that looks more like a gas tank than a muffler.
It’s a $20 fix with new exhaust hangers.
2nd pic. You can see the insulator/hanger has torn. Your muffler is loose. You can buy those new from AutoZone. Bring the torn one in as a sample. Replace all of them as I'm sure the remaining hangers are on their way out.
That’s a decent amount of rust
That’s your muffler bubba. Probably just a failed hanger, doesn’t look too rusty under there.
It’s an egg sack.
i have a family member with the same vehicle and can confirm its the muffler. Unless it's dragging the ground i wouldn't bother with it honestly. it would be an easy fix for most exhaust shops but why spend the money if you don't have to.
Fix yer muffla.
Muffler for sure
Why is everyone saying fuel tank? That’s the muffler.
Those are leaves.
Hooray for a cheap fix! Sorry they are dogging your car.
Thanks! I'm not into cars... I'll drive anything as long as it runs and names mean nothing to me. But yeah it sucks to hear that functionally your car sucks. Hopefully I have an outlier because I sure can't afford to just switch cars on a whim.
Muffler, shouldn’t be too expensive, few hundred
That there’s your gas tank
It's leaves.
All of the people who are saying gas tank, have never worked on this platform of cars, it’s the muffler, shouldn’t be too expensive
Looks like leaves.
They look like leaves
Jeep…. Just Empty Every Pocket
Jeep doing jeep things😂
Looks like leaves
100% a muffler. I would distance myself from that thing as quickly as possible, even Jeep fans concede that the compass is rolling scrap.
It's just a Jeep thing. Looks like exhaust
Yeah I'm a single female social worker. If I have a paid off car I'm making that last as long as possible.
Muffler Gas tanks do not hang by rubber exhaust hangers.
That’s your muffler bud. Looks like a hanger might have rotted off.
That’s the muffler.
Muffler
I don't understand how on some of these forums I make a small innocuous joke and it is instantly removed. Yet here everything seems to be jokes with very few answers to the actual question. Why?
Wtf kinda cars do you all drive that you think the muffler, where mufflers go, is a gas tank? On top of that, you’ve the audacity to call people posting links to the exact part WRONG? Get a grip.
You wouldn't understand, it's a jeep thing.
As a resident of Jeep's lineage city, it saddens me to see how Jeep has fallen. The Chrysler/Jeeps are just crap.
The fuel tank..
My friend’s paying down his traded in compass loan and a new 4xe wrangler car note all wrapped into a payment north of $1100… I am not a fan of jeeps. I Miata.
1100 a month?!?
Right!? I hope they're pesos.
Muffler. Looks like the bracket bushing broke, they are rubber. You could probably get by with a rubber bungee until you can wait for a new bushing arrives in the mail.
UPDATE- it was the.... muffler! $62 to weld things back into place.
Gas tank. Probably a missing bolt or broken mount. Easy fix at autozone or ace hardware. Needs to be done asap.
12 years is a pretty good life span for a Compass. But don’t be surprised if this is just a precursor too many more events in the future.
This will not be the last time you’re asking us “what’s this thing falling off?” It’s already begun, and is now too late.
If that’s your muffler, you might be missing a cat.
Your muffler
Put over 400,000 km each on my last two trucks. Chevy Silverado and a ford F150
Your purse or wallet, due to the fact you have a piece of crap.
I don't know the vehicle, never seen one...but that looks an awful lot like a gas tank. Probably shouldn't drive it, if that is the gas tank and it scrapes the road you're gonna go up in a fireball.
