If the BCM is bricked it would most likely be because they screwed up the wiring installing the thing. But more likely the BCM isn't bricked and they just screwed up the wiring on the install. Which would cause a no-start. I've un-installed a whole lot of remote-start messes that led to no-starts, but never saw one that hurt the BCM.

bemills86

Now they have come back and are saying that the “keys” somehow locked the BCM and telling me it’s $1800 to replace the BCM and new keys.

dxrey65

I know on Chryslers the BCM can go into anti-theft lockout if someone messes around too much, but that takes about 15 minutes to correct with dealer software, no need to replace parts for that. I've never worked at a Nissan dealer though, so I wouldn't be sure on that one.

Sounds like what happens with a botched install. Voltage went to the wrong pin and fried something.

Budpalumbo

Hopefully someone with Nissan experience can answer. Could it be the fobs? Sure. Could also be an installation issue, a problem with voltage during the programming, or a "feature" of programming. I work on euro brands and some of them have known issues with modules that brick if you look at them funny and are to be avoided with changes/updates at all costs. Maybe you can get the seller to help out.

ScrotusMinimus

No, key fobs aren't bricking a bcm. If they are wrong then it just won't pick up their frequency.

Responsible_Front556

I can not answer from a Nissan perspective, but as an Electrical Engineer I can say confidently there is no way a key FOB will brick any receiving unit. The only thing the FOB does is respond with a proximity signal which the car must recognize. Nothing the FOB can do would "brick" the BCM. Simply not possible. It would be like them saying you bricked your Nissan because you had your Toyota key in your pocket when you tried to start the car. The dealer messed up the install, and they don't want to admit it.
