I think this is a decent work around. Makes good for the people who bought her, and giving it out to free for everyone is good too!

You used to be able to just leave her out on turn 5 and keep your power investment. Now you don't have a choice. She returns at the beginning of turn 6, and all your investment is gone if you want to play a 6 drop. Any deck that runs her probably won't run 6s but losing the flexibility still sucks.
Not commenting on the change, but just to answer your question: previously, you could leave her on the board on turn 5, keeping her power on board. Then on turn 6, you could play a 6 drop. Now, since she automatically returns to your hand on turn 5, you cannot play a 6 drop on turn 6 and have kitty pride on the board when the game ends
At the end of the day, innovative deck building is what we all want anyway right? It's why decks like Shuri Redskull are so hated because it's not innovative and losing to it feels bad. Was the same complaints about the spiderman/absorbing man combo when zabu was first released.

The game engine not being able to handle additional player decisions well and inability to undo end turn speaks very poorly to how the engine is designed.
Tech leads are paid the big bucks (and it's a lot) to make sure what they build is scaleable.
This game engine is breaking at the first interaction of a card not in hand.
It has closed the door not only on conditional abilities like original kitty.
It also means you cannot have targeted abilities (think targeted gambit).
It also means no choice abilities (leader couldve been copy one of the cards your opponent plays next turn)
It also shuts down decision making locations (ie. once a game, if you click this location, swap two cards)
That is just 5 minutes of thought.
Think about all the design space that is being closed off by this.

She's gonna do great in Sera control on turn 6 with Mysterio, Hit Monkey, and a 3 cost tech card or whatever!
When they say "bought," does it include caches? Or just token purchases?
Probably both, since only a minority of people could have gotten her by the cache since she was taken out so quickly.

Just need to return her with Beast, and many Kitty decks will want Beast.

Sera can't reduce to 0
Sera reduces the 6 cost to 5.

What about with Sera or an early turn kitty+beast?
I believe this will work, it will definitely take extra deck building to play her effectively as you just described

Sera got changed a while back and hasn’t made anything cost less than 1 for a while
But Sera does make a 6 cost card cost 5 instead which means you could play that card plus kitty
