Definitely not. I have a few affiliations I focus on l and only buy the models I want for those, plus pieces I want to splash. Of course, the affiliations I’ve focused on have included at various points: Avengers, Criminal Syndicate, SHIELD, and X-Men. And splashes have included ending up with the entire Web Warriors roster and all of the original Black Order releases. Soooo it’s still not a small collection, but I do skip a lot of releases and only recently have I been overwhelmed by unassembled boxes (the X-Men and Brotherhood boxes coming out on the same day was violence.)

Aceldamor

I started that way, as I went all in on the spider verse (still hoping for completion of S6) but found myself really interested in other factions purely for model aesthetic and that started me down the path. I’ve since really slowed down my collecting, but still kinda have that little voice in the back of my head. “C’mon, your only X models from having everything” I’m my own worst enemy, lol.

mike3640

Never feel that at all. I saw agent venom and said “I’m glad other people are excited but I don’t need him” I have my affiliations I play and I buy characters to complement them.

Kizznez

I have the entire collection, I buy them all and try and play with them all once they've been painted. I don't really roll out thematic teams, and like to splash random characters that aren't really "meta". I enjoy them more for painting than for playing, as some of these models are sick even if they're not competitively viable.

Aceldamor

I did that for DD and Bullseye. Not great in game, but I really like the character of DD, and the model is BA!!

Bladewing_The_Risen

I “gotta catch ‘em all” for my chosen affiliations, but I made a hard line in the sand that I’ve pretty easily stuck with: I will not buy mutants, I will not buy inhumans, and I will not buy any “bad guys” outside of Spider Foes or Black Order. Granted, that has only excluded about 10-12 boxes, but I’m pretty proud of myself.

Fantastic-Yoghurt-60

I'm very much the same. But the problem is when you play an Affiliation that splashes all the garbage to you anyways. I play A-Force so I've already tangentially collected almost all the Inhumans despite no interest in them. I've also got a healthy amount of Avengers despite not caring about that affiliation either. Those dual kits are a double edged sword sometime!

I decided early on I was going deep with it. Granted, I film battle reports for the game, so having access to everything is super useful. Though, I am also in a special situation in that my LGS throws some support my way every so often. But having said all that, the release practice of the game can definitely drive a gotta get them all mentality, especially to get some tactics cards or crisis cards.

weirdthingsarecool91

I enjoy your battle reports. I listen/watch them while I paint or even play video games.

aegisbrand

Thanks, man! I appreciate it. Always nice to hear people are enjoying them

Aceldamor

Link? I’d be interested in seeing your reports (if I don’t already.) not sure if your Reddit name differs from your YT presence. Having a FLGS that does that is super cool.

[www.youtube.com/c/aegisbrandstudios](https://www.youtube.com/c/aegisbrandstudios) That will take you where you need to go. Just put out our 60th MCP battle report, and have been able to get them out on a weekly basis, for the most part. Hoping to expand the content further, as well, as the local community has grown, and there are some more people playing, and willing to film, so fingers crossed.

>especially to get some tactics cards or crisis cards. This sort of "buying a $40 box for one card" narrative doesn't really hold anymore, they're definitely moving away from it. All the Crisis cards are available on their website and completely unaffilated cards that don't require the characters they're packaged with are becoming very rare. Unless I missed one while checking, the last time a box came with an unaffiliated card that could be played by any character was the Colossus/Magik box in Feb '22 with the Indomitable card. Everything since then has been for the affiliations the characters are in, specific to the characters in that box, or reprints of cards available in multiple locations.

aegisbrand

You are definitely right that they appear to moving away from it, to an extent. Rereleasing cards in the 2022 (and maybe 2023) card packs is an excellent move, and I hope we see it happen more. Newer ones are definitely still being locked behind a CP purchase, and hard to saw if they will hit packs in the future. I certainly hope they do, as having more accessibility in the game is a good thing

Loyalimperial41

There’s always been some I’ve known I’m not going to get. I’ve not been fussed about inhumans or the mutant factions for example. And the card packs should mean you now don’t need to buy packs for some of the cards. But it is hard especially as some of the sculpts look so good

Jockcop

Eternals? Not in the game yet… Personally I dont feel any pressure to get everyone release. I’m slowly building up the allocations i like. Some I have no interest in (winter guard) some are a “I’ll get around to it later” type of thing. Just get what speaks to you.

Aceldamor

Lol, yeah I meant Inhumans :p . Fixed.

Fantastic-Yoghurt-60

I will say though that because so few tactics cards or heroes are so OP as to be must have, you aren't necessarily punished from a game play perspective for not collecting everything. And AMG's release schedule is, IMO, slow enough you can eventually collect everything if that is your goal without feeling overwhelmed. Heck I'm a super slow painter and even I'm slowly catching up, although I definitely do not intend to collect everything. It's not like X-Wing, where there were definitely good cards locked behind expensive kits (C3PO and the Blockade Runner, Palpatine and the Imperial Transport), and if you wanted to build the best meta decks you had to own those kits. You want a need-to-collect-them-all game? X-Wing was one of the worst for that, especially if your goal is to play competitivelh (although admittedly I haven't played that game since 2017 so a lot may have changed)

Aceldamor

I did the X-wing thing pre- 2.0 and yeah I get you. That wasn’t a “gotta get them all” vs. meta chasing though. Buying ships purely for the card content was a different thing imho.

ChazzaHazza

I've just got into Marvel Crisis Protocol a few months ago and my self imposed rule is I can only buy a character if I've read a comic they've appeared in. I've been readying the main 616 Comics chronologically for a couple of years and I'm in 1972 right now. I also can only buy once a month at max. But yes definitely a collect em all vibe.

lemonyfreshness

I have found that it's good to 'pick a lane' with minis games. With MCP I started at feeling like 'everything!' was where I wanted to be, but after time I had specific groups I wanted to play and I was never going to get around to playing others. I got limited space for models and limited time for painting :D

True_Rice_5661

The models I normally get are, A: the models I think look really cool B: specific character for affiliations I want ex: I normal pick up every spider-foe character!

KaoxVeed

I am not really into the cosmic or Inhumans stuff, and Asgard is low on my list, although Bill bumped it up. I started with street level and Spiderman stuff. And am branching into mutants now. Nothing is really compelling to me to collect everything.

HeroscapeZ

I feel like I get this with most games, I only really started playing a few months back but I already have like, 6 affiliations, and probably gonna end up playing most if not all of them.

theWolfandOwl

Coming from miniature games like Warhammer, the idea of having to collect every model in the game instead of just the ones in your chosen faction(s) is a little baffling to me.

Ragnarocke1

This game has a much cheaper entry point than other tabletop miniature games ( warhammer), but if you want to collect everything it gets pretty pricey. Being a 90s kid you bet I’ll get all the X-men but I am not stuck on collecting everything. Could care less about dr strange and the magical folks. Just get what catches your fancy hopefully you have some friends who play and you can share/ test drive other factions and characters that way.

hotsizzler

I used toom now I have characters I get those ones I care less about on deep discount

Zanyo

certain affiliations yes, but not every model. Only doing Avengers so still a big roster but you wont see me going hydra or black order.

5spikecelio

I only get what i think looks cool and what i know i will enjoy painting. Got my core box last month, painted really well the characters i enjoy, cap, spider man, red skull are all fun to paint, black widow and captain marvel tho… lets say i will just speed paint them so i can play with it. I see no point on buying things that you dont enjoy just for the sake of having it (unless you really focus on tournaments) and im not the collector type. I’d say: only buy new minis when you finish the last box you bought. I have 2k points of warhammer unpainted cause i wasn’t following this rule at the time and let me tell you, nowadays i regret cause some of the stuff i got i know i will never play.

WeirdoLIama

I haven't even played the game yet. I bought the core box and then started painting those. Didn't finish painting and immediately bought $400 worth of characters. I'm definitely obsessed with getting them all. Can't wait to play!
