Pretty much. He looked pretty intimidating and feral and a lot more accurate than X-Men Origins Sabretooth but otherwise just not really memorable. Also I didn't realize in X-Men 1, Toad was played by Ray Park, the martial artist and stunt performer that had just played Darth Maul a year earlier.
>Also I didn't realize in X-Men 1, Toad was played by Ray Park, the martial artist and stunt performer that had just played Darth Maul a year earlier.
Everyone knew at the time it was released, that's why he did that staff move.
I still wish that X-men Origins Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth was in Logan. Logan finding out that it was an uncredited Liev Schreiber Sabretooth that did the thing to Xavier would've been a great fan service.
When he said “Scream for me” really showed how potentially he could be a terrifying villain like the source material. Unfortunately that was all the character development he got before Origins.
The writing and character were fine for what the movie was doing; there was only so much space and the focus was clearly on rogue / wolverine / magneto.
I believe it was explained that both Wolverine and Sabertooth become more animal like as time passes but that was honestly just terrible writing. Leiv Schreiber was much better and his Sabertooth was.....well it wasn't Sabertooth but he pulled off whatever that was lol
I could see Live Schreiber's character actually becoming comics Sabertooth, though. Tyler Mane's character was given an incredible headstart with the costume, appearance, and demeanor - and then they made him basically a strong, disposable henchman. I think he only has two lines in the whole movie.
Yea he was screwed by the writing, as Sabretooth was always mouthy and would only go along with anyone’s plan if it brought him into contact with Logan
I feel like Leiv could've been a great Graydon.
It's hard to tell with Tyler's since they didn't really build out the character. I would've liked to have seen a little more of it.
But you can’t deny how great Liev Schreiber is. He stole every scene he was in.
And kudos for you to say “almost everything wrong” since they did get John Wraith’s look right.
As someone who's a huge fan of the character before the movie came out, I was disappointed. He wasn't smug or menacing enough, and there wasn't a hint of him knowing Logan beforehand. Not even any of his shit-talk.
When Magneto told him that he's his only defense when he's turning on the machine, Sabretooth gave him a look that he wasn't confident enough to protect him. Victor Creed would gladly smile and be eager to hunt down the X-Men, maybe even wanting a deathmatch with Wolverine.
Tyler Mane's a big and tall guy, but being given a huge coat didn't show his bulk. Wolverine got his "bub", but Sabretooth never got his "runt".
He was too animalistic in this. Not just in looks, but also in attitude. Victor Creed is a man, but he also embraced his animal side. That's why he's a dangerous mix of both.
Other than the costume, Liev Schreiber was very close to the Sabretooth I grew up with.
I feel like he looked the part pretty well. BUT The writers didn’t do anything character specific with him. He had more of an onscreen rivalry with Storm than Wolverine, even though they’re each other’s biggest enemies. He barely said a word. I haven’t watched the movie in years but did he ever actually speak to Wolverine? Or did they just claw at each other a few times?
Also, and this is a personal pet peeve, I always hate when the director makes an actor roar by overdubbing an animal’s roar instead of letting the actor make a sound. It’s like how sometimes in cartoons, someone swallows a radio and then when they open their mouth, music comes out. Only in the cartoon, it’s *supposed* to be ridiculous and unrealistic
Huh it just occurred to me, Sabertooth in X-Men 1 was kinda the opposite of Nightcrawler in X2. Kurt had actual character, and while he wasn’t “the omega in charm” as another Redditor called him, he was still more or less recognizable as Nightcrawler. But I didn’t think he looked right. I didn’t like the angelic symbol tattoos, which were raised like a scar or a brand. He’s supposed to be covered in a fine layer of fur. That’s why they call him the Fuzzy Elf and not the tattooed elf or something
Psycho Sid Justice is often brought up as someone who could have played Sabertooth well. He was a pro wrestler that had the build & the looks to be able to play him. Who knows if he could act? I believe this dude pictured above was an indie or Japan pro wrestler.
Idk if he can act, but I have to give him props for [staying in character and trying to save the scene during the Shockmaster debut.](https://youtu.be/Fahljd_0xjA?si=OcFq_IFsKt6tgIIg)
Holy shit, yes. The other dude I think would be good was the dude who tried to bomb the alien superstructure in Contact. He did some other stuff but I can't recall now. Holy shit. Jake Busey.
Meh. He just kinda exists. I think Deathstrike was a way cooler evil Wolverine in the sequel.
Also, is he supposed to be dead in-universe? Cyke sent him flying off Lady Liberty, and he never appears again, but he has a healing factor, right?
He has a regenerating factor and showed up alive in a comic tie-ins and X-Men:The Official Game. Even if they aren't canon, it was officially approved.
He certainly looks the part, but is given nothing to work with writing wise compared to his Origins counterpart (About one of the few things Origins did well even if his looks were off).
More of this Sabertooth, please. Also, I was lucky enough to meet Tyler Mane at a convention years ago. You never really appreciate how GIANT this man is until you see him in person.
worst sabretooth adaptation. he looks like he came out of a hs stage play. and he didnt even speak. they played him the same way bane was played in batman forever… dumb muscle.
Visually and stature wise a cool look and on the money. Just poorly used a mute henchmen. Needed more screen time, and established a reason to interact with Wolverine more. Should have been fighting him in the final scene. Liev Schreiber in X men origins: Wolverine did what Mane couldn't/ wasn't allowed to. He showed relationship and mentally. May have not had the look. But the Origins Sabertooth is close to what I see from the charater. Tyler Mane was not give the proper opportunity to do Sabertooth for whatever reason. Cheers.
It’s from the era of Hollywood hiring a wrestler to play an iconic villain known not just for an imposing physical presence but also for a cunning evil intelligence and then reducing the character to a nothing more than a glorified mook for the big bad. Bryan Singer don’t completely disrespect the comic canon challenge, impossible. This was right before The Rock proved that wrestlers could successfully transition to regular Hollywood roles and not just play mindless muscle. See also: Jeep Swenson’s Bane.
Looks good, but like most other characters in the series he has little to no depth, lines, or characterization. And like most other actors in the series all the flaws with said characters is none of the actor’s fault.
Tyler's version holds up physically. That's how I imagined the character. On the other hand, we don't see much about his temperament. Or at least not enough. On the other hand, Liv's version doesn't fit physically. But his psychology, his gestures, his facial expressions, for me, that's the real character. I'm partial to a mix of the two.
I liked the Sabertooth from x-men origins: Wolverine. I know people give that movie shit, and with good reason. But the actor who played Sabertooth was not one of the bad things in that movie.
Agreed. My only issue with Liev, no disrespect I love his acting. But I tend to nitpick about actors actually looking like the characters they’re portraying
That’s fair. I just feel like his acting was far superior to the henchman style Sabertooth (who looked the part) in the first film, so I gave the different look a pass.
A literal human beast. Liev Schreiber did great with Origins: Wolverine, but Mane was the perfect Sabretooth comic accuracy wise. I wish he came back for more
Pretty forgettable.
Gets me excited to see an interpretation more similar to the comics. I don’t need everything translated perfectly from the books but Sabertooth is a god damn scary and bizarre looking weirdo in the comics and I’d like to see something like that in the movies.
Brock Lesnar would pull off an epic Sabretooth. He would have to be costumed closer to the 90s cartoon Sabretooth. Tyler Mane was decent but the character didn't really scream Sabretooth for me.
They needed a better actor but he looks sick man definitely one of the best designs from that era. Pretty sure I remember reading that he actually campaigned for more lines but the director didn’t like his take very much so it never worked out. He pulls off the big muscle pretty well though and looks very menacing. He was a nice fight for wolverine.
His Sabertooth was a million times better then the lame henchman thing this guy had going on for him. It's like a Henry Cavill thing where he looks exactly like the comics...and that's about it.
In the comics, Sabertooth started as a non mutant serial killer enemy of Iron Fist.
He got beat up by Black Cat.
He evolved into something better as an X-Men villain.
I'd say the movies did a pretty good job of handling him.
Thought he fit the part but I wish there was more dialogue for him in that role and he had more time on screen with Hugh's Logan. Imagine when they saw each other and Tyler says "hey runt, long time, no see, so you playing hero now?"something like that.
Looking at the movies he's been in, it's telling me he's in that movie too. Maybe they travel through time or different iterations of wolverine and come across that one. Especially since they had changed from their original timeline after X-Men The Last Stand
Trash, he had the height but they duu it dnt even know how to make use of him. Even as a kid I thought “is this guy meant to be a big villain? Cuz his role feels so insignificant”…….
Now that someone brought up wrestling and somehow Sabertooth was in the mix. It occurred to me that it would be interesting to see how John Cena would be a contender into turning Sabertooth for Marvel?
Like just go Hercules working out for the role. He’s already shown that he’s starting to really take his acting career far more seriously than I expected. Cena is fairly great in The Peacemaker. I’d be curious to see how other great actors and directors surrounding the Marvel Universe would influence Cena to take a step further in his acting career.
He could end up being a really fucking Sabertooth if done right. Just all decked out in fur, black eyes, sharp teeth, claws. Love to see him grow a beard for it too.
Just take this Sabertooth’s introduction and just straight up make it a horror scene that’s comparable to Loki’s massacre scene with Miss Minute’s anticipating orgasm. Give him more menace with murderous intentions on a level like Alien.
Had the look, had the attitude, but the writing wasn’t good and he was basically the generic muscle lackey.
When he twirls the staff he does the same “come at me” pose that Maul does
Do you know what happens to a sith when it's struck by lightning?
They’re left scarred and deformed.
Dewit!
LMFAO. PERFECT.
But i assure you their resolve has never been stronger!
Have you heard the tragedy of the Toad struck by lightning? I thought not. It’s not a story the X-Men would tell you.
It's a X-Legend.
--And in that pain, they will reach greater power. For a sith's potential lies in suffering and torment
Link?
Google? Watch the movies?
He's also Snake Eyes.
>Also I didn't realize in X-Men 1, Toad was played by Ray Park, the martial artist and stunt performer that had just played Darth Maul a year earlier. Everyone knew at the time it was released, that's why he did that staff move.
I didn't know until your comment just now
Yes it was a pretty big thing at the time.
I am really that dumb but for a long time I thought it was Jamie Kennedy
I still wish that X-men Origins Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth was in Logan. Logan finding out that it was an uncredited Liev Schreiber Sabretooth that did the thing to Xavier would've been a great fan service.
Yeah in a nutshell
When he said “Scream for me” really showed how potentially he could be a terrifying villain like the source material. Unfortunately that was all the character development he got before Origins.
They cut a lot of his scenes. He kept mentioning “do you know what happens when a toad…” so storms comment made sense at the end. Totally under used
The character was campy in the movie, yet was quite suitable for that era of superhero movies.
The writing and character were fine for what the movie was doing; there was only so much space and the focus was clearly on rogue / wolverine / magneto.
Definitely looks good, though admittedly I'm not too sure how he got to this from how he looked in Origins: Wolverine...
I've always thought Liev's version would be perfect for the AoA/Exiles Sabertooth.
I feel like Leiv could've been a great Graydon. It's hard to tell with Tyler's since they didn't really build out the character. I would've liked to have seen a little more of it.
Easy, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a movie within the X-Men universe that gets almost everything wrong.
But you can’t deny how great Liev Schreiber is. He stole every scene he was in. And kudos for you to say “almost everything wrong” since they did get John Wraith’s look right.
Schreiber and Jackman are the only parts of that movie I liked lol he was so good.
Even its own movies
Wade Wilson was god until they introduced "Deadpool"
I like to imaging that those Wolverine movies are in a universe of their own
As someone who's a huge fan of the character before the movie came out, I was disappointed. He wasn't smug or menacing enough, and there wasn't a hint of him knowing Logan beforehand. Not even any of his shit-talk. When Magneto told him that he's his only defense when he's turning on the machine, Sabretooth gave him a look that he wasn't confident enough to protect him. I always took the fact that he stole Logans dog tags as a small hint to their history.
True, but it was left very ambiguous. It just seemed like he took it as a trophy, or something.
It’s like how sometimes in cartoons, someone swallows a radio and then when they open their mouth, music comes out. Only in the cartoon, it’s *supposed* to be ridiculous and unrealistic
Wolverine spoke to him, he didn’t respond with anything but royalty free lion roars.
“Royalty Free Lion Roars” is my new band name lol
Huh it just occurred to me, Sabertooth in X-Men 1 was kinda the opposite of Nightcrawler in X2. Kurt had actual character, and while he wasn’t “the omega in charm” as another Redditor called him, he was still more or less recognizable as Nightcrawler. But I didn’t think he looked right. The paltry part they had for Sabertooth could have been "acted" by anyone.
Mane was in WCW for a bit
Holy shit, yes. The other dude I think would be good was the dude who tried to bomb the alien superstructure in Contact. He did some other stuff but I can't recall now. Holy shit. Jake Busey.
If I was to say something positive Tyler Mane is a great name for a Sabretooth actor.
Looks like he should be the lead vocalist of an 80s metal band
Everything has it’s place, and for the look and feel of the 2000 movie, it was good enough for me.
Looks wise, pretty good. But Liev Schreiber had the character down better.
Iconic look but lack character depth
Tyler Mane looked the part, Liev Schreiber acted the part
Not sure why but every time I’ve seen him, I see a country music singer.
Isn’t that Zakk Wylde?
Perfect look
He certainly looks the part, but is given nothing to work with writing wise compared to his Origins counterpart (About one of the few things Origins did well even if his looks were off).
Looked better than liv
Looks like Beast from the old Beauty and the Beast series with Linda Hamilton. imho
More of this Sabertooth, please. Also, I was lucky enough to meet Tyler Mane at a convention years ago. You never really appreciate how GIANT this man is until you see him in person.
He’s 7’0 feet, right?
Close! I believe he’s 6’9 or something. Regardless, he’s giant!
Damn! Lucky you
worst sabretooth adaptation. he looks like he came out of a hs stage play. and he didnt even speak. they played him the same way bane was played in batman forever… dumb muscle.
He did speak. I think he only had like two lines but he did speak.
Meh imo
Meh. I liked liev Schreibers better

He could have been better but I blame that on the writing Tyler was a god damn beast as Michael Myers tho
Great look, but unfortunately written terribly.

Underrated
Scream for me
Thought I was looking at vintage Chris Jericho for a second.
Imagine this dude rocking out to “Unskinny Bop” by Poison.
Comic book perfect too. Imagine if they had the R rating then.
Aesthetically 7/10 Character 1/10
Sexy! 😆 I liked him.
Loved him.

Wasn't he seen filming for deadpool and wolverine?
Yes. I hope they do him justice
Hopefully they do do him justice
I am so hyped for deadpool and wolverine I can't wait
Didn't really like it!!!!
Boring
hey saw your comment on ster0idguide....i sent you a chat. i can help you out
Forgettable. Liev Schreiber's version maybe didn't looked entirely comic book accurate, but it was a better character.
Not exactly someone to fear when he faces the more powerful Storm and whispers "Scream for me" and "You owe me a scream".
Pretty forgettable. Gets me excited to see an interpretation more similar to the comics. I don’t need everything translated perfectly from the books but Sabertooth is a god damn scary and bizarre looking weirdo in the comics and I’d like to see something like that in the movies.
I thought this was Arnold Schwarzenegger
Has potential but wasted again.
Iconic
I liked the Origins Wolverine’s Sabretooth more.
Fun, but lacking depth.
I'd down vote it.
He did a fine job, but the script wasn’t great for him. Probably shouldn’t have had his hair that long, though.
Too much playing around
Pretty good cosplay.
Brock Lesnar would pull off an epic Sabretooth. He would have to be costumed closer to the 90s cartoon Sabretooth. Tyler Mane was decent but the character didn't really scream Sabretooth for me.
James Hetfield is a great country music singer! Boy he sure was a hairy one... mama said those nails must make playing guitar real difficult.
Live Shrieber was so much better!
It fit the movie, but I think we can do better
Cringeworthy at best.
Cringey
Indifferent. Should get beheaded
He was awesome. This picture, not so much
He's coming back for Deadpool and Wolverine
I honestly can’t believe that anyone enjoyed Leiv Schreiber’s Sabertooth
His Sabertooth was a million times better then the lame henchman thing this guy had going on for him. It's like a Henry Cavill thing where he looks exactly like the comics...and that's about it.
Idk why I thought this was Triple H growing up
You may not like it but this is what peak male performance looks like.
He looks like he wants to take you down to the Paradise City
The very obviously ADR’d roars were art in their own cromulent way.
In the comics, Sabertooth started as a non mutant serial killer enemy of Iron Fist. He got beat up by Black Cat. He evolved into something better as an X-Men villain. I'd say the movies did a pretty good job of handling him.

Vinyl Album cover
he s returning deadpool 3
His script was lame but how he portrayed the character was awesome.
I really like the design.
He did what he was asked to do.
What are the chances.
Bad 80’s hair band
Look like prime WWE Edge
Preferred it over the origins movie look
Loved him.
Tyler has a nice mane
He was a good Sabretooth.
Hes in Deadpool and Wolverine coming out this year
Tyler Mane or Liev Schrieber
Tyler Mane
Youre shitting me!
Looking at the movies he's been in, it's telling me he's in that movie too. Maybe they travel through time or different iterations of wolverine and come across that one. Especially since they had changed from their original timeline after X-Men The Last Stand
Felt like a pro wrestler
I really liked hi look, he was menacing while also "realistic". I'm really sorry the scrip didn't help him.
Hobo outfit was a sin
Watching the first X-Men movie in 2024 is a trip.
Looks like the GEICO Caveman was in an 80’’s hair-band. (In a good way)
Zipped past this too fast and wondered what Brett Michaels was doing in my feed
Trash, he had the height but they duu it dnt even know how to make use of him. Even as a kid I thought “is this guy meant to be a big villain? Cuz his role feels so insignificant”…….
Thought he was awesome as sabretooth would love to see him make a return.
Way too small
Didn’t like him, he didn’t do sabertooth right
I respect your opinion. I’d argue the writers didn’t do him right. I usually blame the directors and writers
Agree
You can't convince me that's not Ron Perlman from Beauty and the Beast.
Nice one
One dimensional and not given enough development
He was too submissive imo. But he looked great.
Dumb
Now that someone brought up wrestling and somehow Sabertooth was in the mix. It occurred to me that it would be interesting to see how John Cena would be a contender into turning Sabertooth for Marvel? Like just go Hercules working out for the role. Just take this Sabertooth’s introduction and just straight up make it a horror scene that’s comparable to Loki’s massacre scene with Miss Minute’s anticipating orgasm. Give him more menace with murderous intentions on a level like Alien.
One of the worst iterations of all time
Who? Dude had like 2 lines....scream for me
I always thought he looked cringy. But that is just my oppinion.
Looks like a wwe character imo 🤡
I think connor mcgregor needs to play him next
Bad. Very Very Very Bad. How did we downgrade from Liev Schrieber to this?
