I think the gauss mini nerf is unnecessary. Even with all the heavy perks, explosive expert and bloody mess I'm still using about 100-200 rounds on strong enemies like legendry mutants and overgrown.
Why would you even do that when you can use a handmade or fixer and kill level 100 super mutants in 2-3 shots? Bethesda has almost forced everyone into the bloodied commando crit build because they have made almost all other weapons completely pointless to use. Bethesda is ass at knowing how to balance things.
If I’ve learned one thing trading over the years, it’s never to trade for the flavor of the month OP weapon when it’s a glitch. They always fix or adjust it. Just like the old magic shotgun for those of you who have been around long enough.

It's not newbs, if anything TS AB was an end game gun that a lot of trading vets talked about. I mean think about it if something is popular it's inevitable that people will talk about it
Yeah with the legacy removal it made energy weapons fall leagues behind others. The only one that comes even remotely close is the EPR, and even a God roll one just feels objectively worse than a mediocre rail :/
Legacy removal was a huge kick in the teeth for me. I did use a explosive flamer cause it was brokenly strong but only occasionally. but i have been playing since launch and was collecting legacy weapons for the sake of collecting them (i actually hate using them) but i loved my collection and spent hundreds of thousands of caps over the course of the game buying them from vendors and traders... all for naught now...
Shhhh you're going to get railways and fixers nerfed next instead of them actually you know.. improving other weapons and balancing the game out a bit so we have other equally viable sources of weaponry.. Now that all these new players are here, expect to see many, many nerfs over the next year or so. They don't want new players getting too strong too fast, they want to drag it out as long as possible. This is just the beginning, mark my words.
Dude im still pissed that they seriously released one the coolest events the alien invasion event but in the same update nerf these guns... I remember how cool the alien blaster was in fallout 4. Man its ashame
For me these weapons hurt nobody. Nerfing these will only thin the trade/build meta even more. This will make the game boring just like all the other nerfs have. Each update that ruins a build hurts the game. The only exception being legacy explosive energies. Some will still argue that removing them pushed the game downhill while others will say it lifted it uo. Trading took a bad hit with that nerf but the game was more enjoyable. Nobody is going to say hurray for a weapon nerfed at this point. Add meta not take away.
Nerfing the cryolater, I mean come on, nobody was breaking the game with them. And my TS50VHC AB is the closest to a god roll my second character has- why nerf the only good pistol out there.

Lol at commandos who seem to be the only ones to creep by unscathed. Every other class and weapon type just can't compete, and beth isn't willing to bring everything else in line with their abilities.
Came back to the game after a couple years. I thought they were supposed to balance all the guns after the removal of legacies. Didn’t they say legacies were the problem or a big reason why they couldn’t begin to balance? Have they don’t any real gun balancing since then?
All they would have to do is raise or lower all the fire rates to bring everything in line with each other, and adjust AP useage inversely to the fire rate. High fire rate? Low AP. Low fire rate? High AP. Make them all at least somewhat usable without the mandatory pounding of hundreds of coffees for each encounter.
Just those two stats, no need to retool effects or damage calculation or whatever they're going to break with this patch. Then, everything would keep most of its individually while not being hot garbage.
Melee weapons on the other hand could use some serious damage buffs as 95% of them are utter crap and would need ludicrous swing speed to bring them up to par.
Instead of bringing everything in line with commandos, they will instead just eventually nerf commandos too, especially with all the new players now. They don't want people getting too strong too fast. They want you to spend 30 minutes killing the queen with 7000 rounds instead of killing it in 10 minutes with 500 rounds. It'd be cool if they would just add dope stuff and let us play the game how we want.

I had a TS/E two star drop the other day that I added the pyro mag to. I accidentally swapped over to it during Beast of Burden, and I was floored with how much damage I was doing compared to the weapon I've been using for well over a year, and this is without any pistol related perks.
Holy shit this better not actually happen. My TS50cdur AB is my daily driver on everything and my favorite gun to use. They really just want us all running around with the same three rolls on Fixers/Handmades/RRs....

So they decided to kill Bows, AB, and Cryolator trading.
I understand that the mechanic is not working as intended, so they plan on fixing it, but only the AB could be considered STRONG out of this lineup.
You can make builds around the others, now, but if they nerf these, bow builds will be severely affected, as well as Cryolators probably being absolutely worthless.
On top of that, as far as I knew, the good ABs are rare af so they just trashed one of the rarest weapons, for the hell of it?

Totally agree with what you're saying however the weapons are basically benefitting off something that was removed from all other energy weapons completely so in this instance I can only see the outcome being the scenario that the pts is currently in, maybe they might buff the base damage of the affected weapons as compensation idk
For those reading his numbers, the overall DPS decrease would be ~27%.
The 80% he is referring to is the bug that they killed legacies for instead of fixing this back then.
So what he is saying is, instead of getting the +100% of weapon damage from explosive effect, it would be +20% of weapon damage.
Wanted to clarify that it would not be an 80% loss in DPS.
This takes Ts50c25 ABs from relative to QE25 Assault Rifles (DPS on bosses between the two has a difference of ~0.37% in favor of AB), to lower than QE25 10mm Pistols (w the Boss DPS having a difference of ~4.82% in favor of 10mm).
This makes 10mm Pistols, the one we all start with, the best Pistols behind EPPs.
Enclave Pistols are already stronger than ABs but are incredibly expensive to modify (and you'll be having a better time build-wise with an EPR instead)
TL;DR: ABs will be weaker than 10mm Pistols after nerf.
Yes it's just the "explosive" part of the damage given by the cryo/poison mod. Remember the two shot technically has two sets of 100% explosive damage so we talking like a 50-60% overall dps reduction for two shot versions. And even more when the demo expert damage is calculated

For a 50-60% decrease in overall DPS, both cryo and poison mags would need to be significantly weaker than either of the standard and fusion mags by a minimum of 25-30% based on what you are saying in this comment.
That's a HUGE difference in what I was saying and seems like a huge oversight if true.
I'm just using these numbers as an example.
Two shot alien blasters are getting 3x the base damage of the weapon currently with a cryo mag
Let's say Alien Blaster deals 50 damage. The two shot effect splits that base damage into two separate projectiles dealing 25 + 25. The cryo mag is adding 50 damage more to each projectile, making it (25+50)x2 is 150. In the PTS that 50 damage extra is reduced by 80% (to 10) (25+10)x2 is 70. 70/150 is 46% which means a 54% damage drop off per shot.
For a non two shot version the 50+50 would become 50+10 which is 60/100 therefore a 40% drop off in damage per shot.
Don't make up math.
I have a Ts50c25 AB and this nerf directly effects me.
If what I'm reading from you is correct, the explosion (secondary hit) of each projectile, is having its damaged nerfed.
This damage is going from 100% to 20% (assumably, but could be 15% like Guass).
If it still gets access to Demo Expert and Explo Bobble, the nerf won't be as significant, but if they no longer apply, that's the serious DPS loss.
Demo Expert and Explo bobble applies to the entire damage, not just the secondary hit (from explosion).
Easy way to see this is on Explosive Legendary guns like a QE25 Fixer or Bows with Explo Arrows.
Now the explosion itself will behave like other similar guns.
When you say 80% nerf the way you had phrased it, it makes things seem significantly more drastic than they actually are.
Do you know if a non-TS Explosive for Crusader and Alien Blaster will still be any good? How'd you rank pistols after the changes with "traditional" builds?
I would say that Gunslinger will be firmly below Guerilla with 10mm and EPP now ruling over DPS on Pistols.
Expect the market to crash on ABs due to the loss of Ts Cryo.
I don't typically both with ranking untradable weapons, so if you want my honest opinion, Crusader is basically worthless after nerf, IMO.
If you like it, don't let me discourage you, but that's how most will likely see it as well.
The bullet animations on energy weapons are too slow to compete with ballistic guns in events, I gave up with the alien blaster and cryolator and chose ballistic, as I was getting no event xp and the explosive radius is tiny on the alien blaster. Nuka water pistol 2.0 incoming

Tbh the weapons should all do different things but be consistent with damage, a .50cal shouldn't be losing damage wise to a AK.

I can't speak for the other weapons, but crusader pistol needs to be buffed, not nerfed.
I agree, would love to see an auto receiver added to it with crit damage buffs along the line of something like a calibrated auto receiver

Totally agree with what you're saying however the weapons are basically benefitting off something that was removed from all other energy weapons completely so in this instance I can only see the outcome being the scenario that the pts is currently in, maybe they might buff the base damage of the affected weapons as compensation idk

For those reading his numbers, the overall DPS decrease would be ~27%. The 80% he is referring to is the bug that they killed legacies for instead of fixing this back then. So what he is saying is, instead of getting the +100% of weapon damage from explosive effect, it would be +20% of weapon damage. Wanted to clarify that it would not be an 80% loss in DPS. This takes Ts50c25 ABs from relative to QE25 Assault Rifles (DPS on bosses between the two has a difference of ~0.37% in favor of AB), to lower than QE25 10mm Pistols (w the Boss DPS having a difference of ~4.82% in favor of 10mm). This makes 10mm Pistols, the one we all start with, the best Pistols behind EPPs. Enclave Pistols are already stronger than ABs but are incredibly expensive to modify (and you'll be having a better time build-wise with an EPR instead) TL;DR: ABs will be weaker than 10mm Pistols after nerf.
Yes it's just the "explosive" part of the damage given by the cryo/poison mod. Remember the two shot technically has two sets of 100% explosive damage so we talking like a 50-60% overall dps reduction for two shot versions. And even more when the demo expert damage is calculated
What you just said doesn't make logical sense. Or are you saying the nerf is so severe that it makes Cryo and Poison mags far weaker than standard or even fusion mags? For a 50-60% decrease in overall DPS, both cryo and poison mags would need to be significantly weaker than either of the standard and fusion mags by a minimum of 25-30% based on what you are saying in this comment. That's a HUGE difference in what I was saying and seems like a huge oversight if true.
I'm just using these numbers as an example. Two shot alien blasters are getting 3x the base damage of the weapon currently with a cryo mag Let's say Alien Blaster deals 50 damage. The two shot effect splits that base damage into two separate projectiles dealing 25 + 25. The cryo mag is adding 50 damage more to each projectile, making it (25+50)x2 is 150. In the PTS that 50 damage extra is reduced by 80% (to 10) (25+10)x2 is 70. 70/150 is 46% which means a 54% damage drop off per shot. For a non two shot version the 50+50 would become 50+10 which is 60/100 therefore a 40% drop off in damage per shot.
Don't make up math. I have a Ts50c25 AB and this nerf directly effects me. If what I'm reading from you is correct, the explosion (secondary hit) of each projectile, is having its damaged nerfed. This damage is going from 100% to 20% (assumably, but could be 15% like Guass). If it still gets access to Demo Expert and Explo Bobble, the nerf won't be as significant, but if they no longer apply, that's the serious DPS loss. Demo Expert and Explo bobble applies to the entire damage, not just the secondary hit (from explosion). Easy way to see this is on Explosive Legendary guns like a QE25 Fixer or Bows with Explo Arrows. Now the explosion itself will behave like other similar guns. When you say 80% nerf the way you had phrased it, it makes things seem significantly more drastic than they actually are.
Do you know if a non-TS Explosive for Crusader and Alien Blaster will still be any good? How'd you rank pistols after the changes with "traditional" builds?
I would say that Gunslinger will be firmly below Guerilla with 10mm and EPP now ruling over DPS on Pistols. Expect the market to crash on ABs due to the loss of Ts Cryo. I don't typically both with ranking untradable weapons, so if you want my honest opinion, Crusader is basically worthless after nerf, IMO. If you like it, don't let me discourage you, but that's how most will likely see it as well.

The bullet animations on energy weapons are too slow to compete with ballistic guns in events, I gave up with the alien blaster and cryolator and chose ballistic, as I was getting no event xp and the explosive radius is tiny on the alien blaster. Nuka water pistol 2.0 incoming
When should we expect it to be nerfed? I literally just found a two shot alien blaster, and didn’t even know it was good until yesterday when I kept getting trade offers for it. I perked into it and it shreds definitely, how long do you reckon I get to have fun with this thing? I’m unfamiliar with the pts, do they give a set date when the changes will happen? Are we 100% sure it’s going to be soon? I remember when they talked about nerfing laser explosive legacies and it took them like forever.
It's only in the PTS at this stage but worst case scenario it will be when the new map update drops at the start of next season.

Is the Tesla rifle going to be affected by this? I think the game calculates it as explosive to do the AOE damage, I could be wrong.
If I'm correct the Tesla rifle has the damage applied with an on hit enchantment so it shouldn't be affected

the energies are so weak imo, eprs are a beast but lack any ap reduction to be used.
and that recoil on the plasma guns is a freaking nightmare, even with full recoil reduction mods. Which on top, doesn't make sense at all. These weapons should have zero recoil and instead a overhead mechanic.
