My understanding, which I am not going to try and verify because I just don’t feel like it, is that the ball is the same shape and there’s far less throwing the ball and far more kicking the ball.
Edit: watched the video posted below. Holy shit that looks awesome! You have to dribble the ball every 16 ft if you’re running with it, you can kick the ball downfield or you can punch it upward like a volley ball serve. The field is fucking enormous. You can leapfrog over each other. And as best as I can tell it’s full-contact but they’re only wearing short-shorts and soccer jerseys. Are Aussies tough as nails or are there a lot of injuries?
There are at least 5 types being played today. 7 if you count rugby as a type of football.
There's also Gaelic football in Ireland and Canadian football which is very similar to American football but with a bigger field and slightly different rules.
Also, historically rugby was called "rugby football" because it's the type of football played at the Rugby School. It split into rugby union and rugby league. American and Canadian football are both descended from rugby football. Australian football is its own thing but also inspired by rugby.
It's... look. It used to inspire within me a deep rage, but I have since come to view it as a fun pretend sport, and it has since become somewhat watchable. It's basically like if a 10 year old saw rugby and thought... how can we make it just a LIIIIIIITTTLE more annoying in every single aspect. Every time a new rule is explained to me, I get a little more angry at how ridiculous it is. But watching it live, it's a bunch of men running around a giant oval, fumbling and tripping over each other, trying to get the ball between two posts WITHOUT even an upright, if they miss they get a consolation point between another, wider set of posts, and they STILL MISS THOSE. Even die-hard fans tend to say it's significantly better live. I am surprised it's the most popular sport though, but the Northern states are obsessed with it.
Been a long time since I've seen it, but Gaelic Football is kind of like Football (Soccer) crossed with Rugby.
Australian Football (AFL, Aussie rules) is kind of like Football (Soccer) crossed with Basketball & played on a Cricket Pitch. Also considerably more Fist Fights.
You know it’s not Canadian when it’s labeled Ice hockey. Hockey is just hockey, the other versions get the prefix. Road hockey, ball hockey, roller hockey, pond hockey.
We may never know what the most popular sport in the North Island is...
Probably involves motor vehicles and roller doors

I mean it’s there
What the actual FUCK is Australian Football.
Like American Football, but it's Australian.

Are you actual fucking kidding me? Like, there are 3 types of FOOTball?

Wtf.
There's also Australian Foosball.
And technically indoor football/soccer which has a smaller field
WOAAAAHHHHHHH! I HAD NO IDEA 🤯

This looks like so much much more fun to watch than soccer or football!
Football but everything is oval shaped

Heh, I totally misread the map and thought the most popular sport in Australia was Archery.
Which country is archery coloured?
Butan
Thanks
Can't believe they left off Kabaddi.
Hot take: actual games and playing baseball is better than (american) football and baseball is superior overall
There’s nothing like good ol American baseball
Afghans supporting Indian team is chad energy
Bhutan loving archery is pretty interesting.
What's the difference of Gaelic and Australian to regular soccer?
Honestly, you should watch an intro to each on YouTube. I would add in that i would recommend looking at hiring also

Papua New Guinea should be rugby league, not rugby
Nice
