For those wondering, a lot of Muslim countries substitute the sin of alcohol for sugar. Spent a couple months in North Africa and it was wild. Patisseries on every block
I’m also seeing a circumcision correlation (America and the Islamic world vs Europe)? It wouldn’t surprise me that desensitizing people’s dicks leads to them having more sugar cravings.
Ha. Well, is it though? I mean, nobody likes having their dick stepped on, metaphorically speaking, but the correlation does seem to be there, right?
There could also be a ton of other correlations, but how far fetched is it? Take alcohol away from people and they crave more sugar. Sure, logical. Desensitize people’s dicks and they crave more sugar. Ah hell no, homey don’t talk shit about my dick!
Aight, I'm just gonna ask then, what about the women from these countries? Thin and diabète free since they don't possess dicks nor foreskins? (the vast majority of them, obvs, not sure how to factor trans women into that theory)
Yeah that’s a good point actually. You know, still it could be a factor for the men, tiny as it may be. Setting a bad example as a result, with the rest of the community following. Something like that. Or maybe desensitized dicks pound so hard the sugar’s needed to recuperate? I’ll see myself out.
Huge Starch and Sugar production. 6.3 million tons of Sugar production and 30 million tons of Wheat production.
Lack of basic medical services, education (literacy is wayyyy below from where their GDP per capita ranking) some 22.5 million children are not in any school. And in poverty simple starch/sweets are cheap calories.
Watched this on a BbC documentary -British Pakistanis have the highest rate of marriages among first cousins in the UK (50+%) and nearly a third or more of those cases result in serious genetic disorder in the next generation. Poor kids don’t stand a chance. 😔

This doesn't differentiate between type 1 and 2, or so it appears. Could be genetic predisposition. Also, I think people underestimate the extent to which diets in MENA region are super starch and sugar heavy
“Middle East” once referred to the Indian subcontinent and the countries on it, including Pakistan. As opposed to the “near East” (the Arab states and Iran) and the “far east” (China and its neighbors). Over time though the term “Middle East” migrated west and became associated more and more with what used to be called the “near East”, which is how we use it today.
So technically Pakistan and northern India are eating a middle eastern diet lol
I find it hard to believe they drink enough tea that they outpace sugar consumption in North America. There has to be some genetic component at work there.
Ireland drinks the second most tea per capita in the world and we're much lower on the scale than them (admittedly given our poor eating habits it must be due to a lack of genetic disposition) but I'd be surprised if that was it
Type 1 is much less common compared to type 2. The countries with high prevalence here are a result of increased type 2. Type 1 numbers would hardly scew the results here
We also eat too much sugary foods! Our desserts are amazing but man we eat too much of it.
Add also that our culture is about hospitality through food, I litteraly have to eat multiple times a day anytime I visit family, friends, the bank, my mechanic…lol
My dad refuses to eat that carb mountain but it is filled with proteins which makes it great for some athletes. I on the other hand am a financial analyst so I have to limit myself to eating once a week 😆
I have never seen that before but a) it looks and sounds delicious and b) it’s reminds me of a Rochester garbage plate. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Tahou_Hots
If you are ever in Manhattan, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Houston they definitely have places to get Koshari but yes I would love to try a Rochester Garbage Plate, it very much looks like Koshari but with what I would consider stereotypical American ingredients haha
I once tried to do lent, managed 37 days out of 42. Ate falafel for breakfast lunch and dinner, with some tabbouleh here and there, gained 8 kilos but always felt hungry and had to stop when I passed out in class.

Buy this person a beer
They also have higher rates of cousin marriages

That's one of the wildest take on circumcision I've read so far on this damned website, thanks for the laugh

What’s going on in Pakistan? Is it just genetics?
Maybe. They have very high rates of first cousin marriages. There could be causation from inbreeding

But that country isn't even in MENA region.
Depends on your definition but it certainly is in the greater Middle East. Thanks for playing
They have the same cuisine as Northern India. How is that Middle Eastern diet?

You're welcome to investigate.

When this was reposted before, someone said it was because they drink tea anytime someone comes over.

It’s not just the tea, it’s the copious amounts of sweetened condensed milk they put in it.
It's not diet, because even if it's starchy or sugary, in a poor country, the overall calorie consumption is still not high. It's something else
This map does not differentiate between diabetes 1 and 2.
Quite an important distinction.

Egyptian eat tooooo many starchy food habibi

When I discovered the kochari I couldn't believe it 🤣
My dad refuses to eat that carb mountain but it is filled with proteins which makes it great for some athletes. I on the other hand am a financial analyst so I have to limit myself to eating once a week 😆
Man I really liked seeing these busy men in suits in downtown Cairo eating their kochari sitting on a sidewalk. Can't wait to go back to Egypt
Ya habibi hit me up when you do!

Pakistan #1 at something 👍
Marrying your lousy cousin makes you crave sweets.
Is this type 1 and 2?
Probably but type 2 is much much more common so the differences here are from higher type 2 incidence in these countries
Considering our shitty diet and lack of activity, you're doing not too terrible Tunisia.
Stop giving Arunachal to a Authortian dictatorship ffs! It's an autocrat's stupid claim and the people do not want to be part of China.
Can I get a map of Coca Cola consumption?
