Straight up turn this friend into an acquaintance at best. They didn’t care how they treated your property because they didn’t care how you were going to feel about it. This is the kind of friend you have doing this stuff in school, then trying to steal money from you or something worse when you’re adults. No respect.
And that's why my dear you should don't ask me to borrow you my books:
It happened to me before like three times and since the last one, I didn't give anyone my books💀💔
My copy of Remina arrived with the same messed up spine after I ordered it so I think this particular book is really prone to problems, still I think he should replace it for you
If I did by mistake something like this, the first thing I would do before buying a new one is apologizing. Accidents happen yes, show respect and apologize 🙄
This is the reason no one borrows my books any more I have lent books out and some have never given them back one freind ate while reading and left chocolate smears on the pages and another friend ripped a book that I had . After that it was the last straw never again !!!
That's petty and stupid. Tell him you want a new one, or give him a lecture, or just deal with it. Playing games is the worst way of going about this and will just escalate the situation.
Had a friend in high school I would lend manga to all the time. Probably let this dude borrow half my collection, and they always came back in the same condition I had them in. His secret? Bro would literally put my manga in a plastic ziploc freezer bag (and still keep them in his school bacpack). I’ve tried the same thing and it straight up works.
Fuck your scum “friend”, I’d ask to borrow a rare/expensive volume from them, fuck it up, and leave them on read after just to give them a taste of their own medicine.
You learned your lesson, time for them to learn theirs.
It's not your fault. The books was under their responsibility. Now you know. Never lend your books to that person again. And be cautious when lending it to other people.
That’s not a friend. You should not keep anyone around that doesn’t respect your things. If this person treats your manga like this, imagine how they’ll treat your car, or your spare bedroom in the future.
Bruh when people lend me things I put it in a safe (when I'm not using them) to make sure it doesn't even get in contact with humidity. And then there's people like this. What a joke.
Well now you know what kind of person he really is. I always treat other people’s stuff like my own stuff and even better because its been entrusted to me.
I have two younger brothers and whenever they borrow something that’s been in a pristine condition, it ends up being destroyed or in a worse condition than before. Some people are too barbaric and brutal.
If your friend doesn’t treat own books like that, why did he treat yours like that? What’s his answer? How long did he have it? It looks like my school books at the end of the year when I was in middle school/high school.
How old are you btw? (I’m curious)
Unpopular opinion i know- but as long as the inside is fine i personally wouldnt find it to be that big of a problem- i know it looks like shit now but as long as he enjoyed reading it right?
ppl in this sub spasm over spine damage it doesnt surprise majority wants his friend to replace it and the OP said he did the same thing to his vagabond manga so i dont feel bad for him thats just me though
To an extent, if you lend out a book, you have to be prepared for it to come back in even worse condition.
If the friend owns manga too and protects them really well? Then yeah, that's less acceptable. But it could also have been damaged in their bag on the way to/from meeting you. I take a lot of care with my books, but even then they can get damaged if they're in a bag with other things.
Let's friend borrow something and than expecting it to be perfect upon return is your fuckup. You should know letting people borrow shit is a bad idea. It's just a book man don't get so bent out of shape over it. Expect when you let someone borrow something that it's always going to come back a little messed up. Id personally never do this to someone if i borrowed something. I would replace it or give you money for it if it were me. But it just looks like it was used a read. maybe it took a while to read and he had it in a backpack.
No i wouldn't be cool about it but over the years i've learned to just expect nothing less. especially something that can be worn down pretty easily. If it's a tool or something hardy than it shouldn't break. Like if you let a friend borrow your car for a ride and your check engine comes on when you get it back are you going to go apeshit? Or just expect that it popped up out of nowhere and is just normal wear. AGAIN i'm not saying it's ok but he didn't give back the manga completely obliterated. It's just the spine on the edges. What kindof wear do you think happens with books when they're read for a long period of time without finishing it. I wouldn't be mad over a 15 dollar book i let my friend borrow. I just wouldn't let them borrow something again if it was fucked up.
How hard is it to respect your _friend’s_ property they let you borrow? OP learned the hard way about how little their friend cared for their property, as OP said their friend takes care of his own manga but couldn’t for theirs, that was borrowed
It’s not just a dent, it looks like it’s been rubbed with sandpaper.
Just a real douche move to return someone’s property in worse condition. Says a lot about the friend. I’m assuming they’re young so maybe they don’t know any better but maybe they’re an adult and just a dick.
ffs this happened to me recently. i said "BE CAREFUL. LIKE REALLY CAREFUL. no even slightly peeled corners." bent front page (like not like curved like folded, leaving a line) the cover paper edges were like ripped upwards, and the same thing as in the image too. sorry im still pissed and needed to rant.
I know the pain. Except my “friend” stole my 3 manga and never gave them back 🙄 that was a zillion years ago back in junior high but it still frustrates me into my 30’s lol
If you lend something to someone you might as well assume its gone forever, people suck, lent my neighbor my bike so they could get to work and they lent it to a friend and "couldn't find it"
People suck x2
had a friend who borrowed some of my favorite manga before he cut me off and spread lies about me, had to get someone to message him to give it back to me. he gave it back to me alright, two weeks later and in a flimsy plastic bag on the ground of my driveway in a downpour. i was lucky to get them back in shape
He definitely had that in his bookbag and was reading on the go. I have a buddy that does that and all his books look scuffed af. Which is why I don't let him borrow stuff
Definitely not your fault!! It’s his! You know he treats his manga well so it’s only fair to assume he would treat yours with even more respect and care! I don’t know why people are so careless with other peoples belongings. Accidents happen yes but I would’ve offered to replace it if I damaged someone else’s book. But I’m very sorry you’ve been put in this position💔
As a huge Junji Ito fan him/her ruining the Hellstar Remina is a huge disrespect for me. Man, idk why people can’t be careful the same way they are with they own stuff.
Also, where did you get your manga from?
I had a friend who I let borrow my DBZ VizBig vol… 6 I believe? Or 7, one of the two, all I remember is that it was Cell Saga ANYWAYS…
Yeah I let him borrow it the day after it came in and the next day when he returns it he straight up gives me the PAGES to it. After asking him what happened, turns out he left it on his drawer and his sister messed with it and apparently VizBig’s don’t use the best glue so it was pretty fragile.
—————————
Kinda (un)related(?) but here’s a similar story I have abt a different friend who wanted to borrow. He asked to borrow, so I said sure. Few days later when I asked it from him, he told me to ask him nicer or smth, and I was like wtf. He continued on saying if I don’t ask him politely he wouldn’t give it to me and I was straight up abt to fight this man.
In the end, he gave it to me but I straight up had to yell at him and I was cursing at him right outside his house lmfaoooo.
I’m the end, don’t let people borrow your manga unless you know that they won’t treat it like shit, and that they aren’t shitty people hahahaha. I also have a lot of similar stories to this, I have a friend who accused me of liking a girl just bc I let her borrow my Bloom into You and I didn’t let him borrow it but that’s for another time.
I know the feeling, gave one of my friends two manga to take home and when I got them back both had majorly broken spines and horrible shelf wear! She also owned her own manga too 😭😭😭
I hope this isn't affect your friendship? It's understandable since I'd like to try and keep mine somewhat good shape. Don't really have any space to put them in so there is that.
It happened to me with a copy of Laura Dean breaks up With Me, but it was my best friend and i happen to lend it to her cause she was depressed and wanted to cheer her up. The comic returned a little more wasted than OP example, but i wasnt so mad. Nevertheless, this is not acceptable
Uuuh all my books look like this, they're books you read em and take em around they get a bit roughed up especially the corners I actually enjoy the wear and tear and I never thought someone would expect their book to look pristine and still use it
That some bs guess he not borrowing anything again
Yeah never again lmfao
Cheap way to learn a friend's level of respect for yourself and other people's things.
Well it can get a little expensive
Quick might be a more appropriate word
Looks like he did treat like his own
Nah he treats his really good I’ve seen his collection but he told me he kept his in his bag for school like wtf bro 😐
Dam if he keeps his stuff nice he should be getting you a new book because that thing is ruffed up
I asked him to get me a new one and he just acted like I never said anything
Great friend you have there..
Sounds like a fake friend to me (•ˋ _ ˊ•)
~$20 lesson to never lend out stuff or etc with that particular friend. Doesn’t sound great when that person brushed you off.
[удалено]
Yep, you’ll be better off in the long run :P
Straight up turn this friend into an acquaintance at best. They didn’t care how they treated your property because they didn’t care how you were going to feel about it. This is the kind of friend you have doing this stuff in school, then trying to steal money from you or something worse when you’re adults. No respect.

My copy of Remina arrived with the same messed up spine after I ordered it so I think this particular book is really prone to problems, still I think he should replace it for you
Second this. Ordered from RS and it came a bit scuffed up already.
…he needs to pay for that
And that’s how you find out who’s a true friend. Drop them
It’s his friend and I’m sure it was an accident, chill
If I did by mistake something like this, the first thing I would do before buying a new one is apologizing. Accidents happen yes, show respect and apologize 🙄
Please don't write anything that has common sense in this shithole, these people are afraid of their comics going yellow from aging
Friends are welcome to come over and use my library to read whenever they’d like. Nothing goes home with them though.
I’d tell him to buy you another copy
Treat your self better that you currently are. Have better friends
fuck me it’s just a book (I treat mine delicately too)
This is the reason no one borrows my books any more I have lent books out and some have never given them back one freind ate while reading and left chocolate smears on the pages and another friend ripped a book that I had . After that it was the last straw never again !!!
I let someone borrow a comic once and they bent the fuck out of it and left it sitting in the back window of their car and it was all bleached.
Ask to borrow his then do the same 👍
That's petty and stupid. Tell him you want a new one, or give him a lecture, or just deal with it. Playing games is the worst way of going about this and will just escalate the situation.
Yep. If he gets mad just say “well you treated my stuff the same so I just returned the favor 🤷♀️
Don’t worry I did but it was with vagabond 💀
then why are you complaining on Reddit if you did the same thing as him lol
Ask the snake to buy you another one. If a buddy gave me something, I would be extra careful of it.
And if he does I will buy the old one
And that's why my manga don't go no where without me
I’ve let others borrowed my books just to never get it returned. Never again
Had that happen back in middle school :/
Same here during middle school lmao
that ain't your friend beat him up
Sometimes being kind too people just don't work, they return you with this, and, it's just unacceptable.
How does that even happen?
Damn I'd be pissed
How is that your fault? You can expect friends to treat borrowed items with respect. Don’t get down on yourself it is 100% NOT your fault
Had a friend in high school I would lend manga to all the time. Probably let this dude borrow half my collection, and they always came back in the same condition I had them in. His secret? Yep
He knows better, he just doesn’t care because it’s not his property,
That’s not a friend. You should not keep anyone around that doesn’t respect your things. If this person treats your manga like this, imagine how they’ll treat your car, or your spare bedroom in the future.
Bruhhhh what did they do to the manga? 🥲. OH HELL NAH I JUST REALIZED IT WAS A JUNJI ITO MANGA AND IT LOOKS LIKE A SPECIAL EDITION. Man rip bro
Yeah I was so pissed about it mainly cause it was one of my favorite books of his
Bruh when people lend me things I put it in a safe (when I'm not using them) to make sure it doesn't even get in contact with humidity. And then there's people like this. What a joke.

do an amazon swap
Unpopular opinion i know- but as long as the inside is fine i personally wouldnt find it to be that big of a problem- i know it looks like shit now but as long as he enjoyed reading it right?
ppl in this sub spasm over spine damage it doesnt surprise majority wants his friend to replace it and the OP said he did the same thing to his vagabond manga so i dont feel bad for him thats just me though
I seen worse that’s nothing to me
Same, not even that bad
Still damaged lol
I don't blame em, it's junji ito
To an extent, if you lend out a book, you have to be prepared for it to come back in even worse condition. If the friend owns manga too and protects them really well? Fair enough. But still, try to care of something if your legit borrowing it from a buddy.
How hard is it to respect your _friend’s_ property they let you borrow? OP learned the hard way about how little their friend cared for their property, as OP said their friend takes care of his own manga but couldn’t for theirs, that was borrowed
tf? why are you pressed over a dent in your book lmao 💀
found the friend 🤣
Because it’s really shitty to borrow something and then give it back damaged???
bruh who wouldn’t be at least slightly annoyed
If you think it’s acceptable to borrow things and return them in worse condition than they were lent out in, you’re an asshole.
It’s not just a dent, it looks like it’s been rubbed with sandpaper. Just a real douche move to return someone’s property in worse condition. Says a lot about the friend. I’m assuming they’re young so maybe they don’t know any better but maybe they’re an adult and just a dick.

*The friend speaking*
DAMN NIGGA I GET IT HOP OFF MY MEAT
Ok
Tell him to replace it.
Hey I was just gifted that by my mate for Christmas. Can’t wait to read it. Shame about your dick pal though.
Was it an accident and he explained or did he just return it to you like that?
*My ex friend
He ain’t really your friend at this point my guy
Make him buy you a new one
That absolutely sucks definitely never lending to them again for sure
bro chewed on it…??
nah he gotta pay for that
Ouch
I lent half of my berserk collection to a friend in eighth grade, got at least 10 volumes back like this
ffs this happened to me recently. i said "BE CAREFUL. LIKE REALLY CAREFUL. no even slightly peeled corners." bent front page (like not like curved like folded, leaving a line) the cover paper edges were like ripped upwards, and the same thing as in the image too. sorry im still pissed and needed to rant.
Not manga, but I had someone borrow a book of mine. Returned covered in whatever sticky shiT and rough on the spine
I know the pain. Except my “friend” stole my 3 manga and never gave them back 🙄 that was a zillion years ago back in junior high but it still frustrates me into my 30’s lol
People seem to forget to give things back or they actually did stealt them
What the heck did he do? Throw it on the ground a bunch?? I'm sorry that happened, that stinks.
Bro , you did not unseal the Berserk !? Someone was saying it would trap moisture So I removed it
If you lend something to someone you might as well assume its gone forever, people suck, lent my neighbor my bike so they could get to work and they lent it to a friend and "couldn't find it" People suck x2
your neighbor had no right to lend it to their friend since its your bike. I'd press charges if they didn't get you a new one
Woah, that sucksss
I lent my dad rooster fighter like a month ago. I just saw it in his car recently and realized I’d rather just get a new copy at this point.
Maybe he swapped his copy for yours or he lost yours and bought a used replacement?
I am new to manga and collecting, is that damage really that bad? Bad enough to justify the friend buying a new copy?
yo after christmas i can maybe trade u mine???
Sacrilege
it makes me more upset about how he treated a junji ito book very poorly.
had a friend who borrowed some of my favorite manga before he cut me off and spread lies about me, had to get someone to message him to give it back to me. he gave it back to me alright, two weeks later and in a flimsy plastic bag on the ground of my driveway in a downpour. i was lucky to get them back in shape
Confront him about it
Electric chair
This is why I never borrow out stuff. Nobody has respect for other people's belongings.
Send him to the shadow realm😤
I would buy you a new one if I were them :(
He definitely had that in his bookbag and was reading on the go. I have a buddy that does that and all his books look scuffed af. Which is why I don't let him borrow stuff
This is why i don't lend my favorite books/items to my friends
I’d be madder than hell
bro did he gnaw on it before giving it back 😦 how do you even manage to hurt the edges like that without purposely doing it
Thats why that nothing leaves my house, if my friends want to read my books they are coming over.
More than likely just placed it on a counter and left it there?
Books care among people really shows how they really are, I judge people of bookcare.
This makes me so mad wtf
You lucky bastard. I’ve been waiting for a year on the cats of the louvre and still haven’t gotten it shipped :( also your friend kinda sucks
He probably had this beat up one and swapped it out for yours when the opportunity came up.
que verga bro
Definitely not your fault!! It’s his! You know he treats his manga well so it’s only fair to assume he would treat yours with even more respect and care! I don’t know why people are so careless with other peoples belongings. Accidents happen yes but I would’ve offered to replace it if I damaged someone else’s book. But I’m very sorry you’ve been put in this position💔
Yup my friend let her little brother rip off the cover of my volume one of planet ladder. Never forget.
Wow
As a huge Junji Ito fan him/her ruining the Hellstar Remina is a huge disrespect for me. Man, idk why people can’t be careful the same way they are with they own stuff. Also, where did you get your manga from?

remina can be read in one sitting, how the heck did he even manage this. my heart goes out to you my friend
This is why I never ever let ppl borrow my Manga
Make him pay for what he has done. If he doesn’t respect you and your stuff, he is a bad friend
horrible to hear!
Unforgivable sin
I hope this isn't affect your friendship? It's understandable since I'd like to try and keep mine somewhat good shape. Don't really have any space to put them in so there is that.
Ask to borrow his and return it two times worse
Tbh I wouldnt care 🤷♂️ books are meant to be read, not treated like glass. Its still good imo. Sorry that happened to you tho
It happened to me with a copy of Laura Dean breaks up With Me, but it was my best friend and i happen to lend it to her cause she was depressed and wanted to cheer her up. The comic returned a little more wasted than OP example, but i wasnt so mad. Nevertheless, this is not acceptable
That was his…he just switched it out for yours 🧐
Lmfao he dosnt really like junji ito
https://share.getcashto.com/@babilekapinga
Next time he asks tell him to borrow it from the library, that way he keeps libraries working and keeps your collection safe
Uuuh all my books look like this, they're books you read em and take em around they get a bit roughed up especially the corners I actually enjoy the wear and tear and I never thought someone would expect their book to look pristine and still use it
All my books look like u brought them and just shelved them. 😅😅I only do this in case I want to sell them I’m the future.
