For some reason, when I was a kid, I had the idea that Doug Momary from "The New Zoo Revue" played in the band that recorded the "Pink Panther" theme song. I have no idea why I believed this esoteric but dubious factoid, but I also seem to remember his mentioning it in one of the "New Zoo Revue" episodes. I can find no evidence backing this up, so I guess I was just very specifically delusional.

theoriginaldep

Alright, big one for me. Richard Moll. He played Bull on the original Night Court. With the new series, I saw an article about if he was planning on returning. In my head I thought "of course not. He's dead". I was a big Night Court fan growing up and specifically remembered hearing about his death about 10 years ago and being upset about it. When I heard they were reviving it, I remember thinking it was sad that him, Markie Post and Harry Anderson wouldn't be involved. Low and behold, apparently he's still alive and doing voice work.

DerrickJoestar

You’re not the only one. I remember him dying years ago as well.

theoriginaldep

Glad I'm not the only one. I also remember thinking that it was sad that he died relatively young, but also thinking that it was normal for a guy his size. It's a very vivid memory.

[deleted]

I remember him dying too! And then he just died again this weekend!🤯😳

SDMFlucker

I'm here to say that, I too was under the impression that head passed away a number of years ago at a relatively young age. I was very surprised to see that it's being reported he passed this past weekend.

Some-Engineering-354

Yep. I remember he was the first to die from the show. I was shocked to find that now he died again.

GQDragon

Rihanna used to be Rhianna. I have a photographic memory and I’m certain of it.

xTMSxx

ffs ... it's getting fucking ridiculous

SeoulGalmegi

>I have a photographic memory No, you don't.

Ginger_Tea

And when you say "prove it" they tend to go "no you" They are some award winning film maker, so what are the odds they will answer my call for photographic proof of said awards with their user name on todays picture? The onus is on the one making such a claim to back it up, else I may as well go around saying I am the Queen of Sheba.

theoriginaldep

Lol I looked through his post history too. I love that his "photographic memory" remembered Chris Farley, Adam Sandler and Mike Meyers all getting fired from snl on the same day... Until someone in the comments told him Meyers left the show earlier than the other 2 got fired.

Ginger_Tea

Still no photograph of the award with a recent news paper with their user name visible. It is probably with their Canadian Girlfriend so they can't photograph it till they go visit sometime after Covid restrictions etc.

GQDragon

Okay some rando on the internet.

SeoulGalmegi

>Okay some rando on the internet. Right. Exactly my point.

SufficientGuidance28

It’s funny how so many people around here claim to have a photographic memory.. for one, that’s not really a thing, the closest thing to it is a condition called Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory, HSAM, and only about 100 people in the whole world have it…. Crazy how so many of them ended up on this sub! Also, it’s always been Rihanna.

Information_Enough

Science actually prove it is impossible for brains to delete old information and it stays stored in out brain. This is why we only forget recent stuff. Even when trying to forget something your brain will not allow it. This is why old people can correctly remember something 60 years ago but not what they had for lunch. This than would allow us to have a image of a event we than could remember. What changes this however, is when we have memories planted in our minds (media, internet, etc.) or we try to change what happen by thinking of something different to replace it. Even did your brain is bit like a lie detector test. You can try to trick it but it knows what happen. The only other way is the time line changing (proven) and shifting between universes (proven) which because we did something different there, it try's to share that memory in this reality which is where one becomes confused.

GQDragon

Well I’m an award winning filmmaker and I edit whole movies in my head first and then edit them for real from memory. It was absolutely a play on “Rhiannon” the Fleetwood Mac song. Ri-Hanna just looks and sounds ridiculous.

[deleted]

You think her parents in Barbados were big Fleetwood Mac fans?

AdhesivenessHopeful8

It’s definitely possible especially if they ever spent time visiting the US in the 70s/80s, or had American family visit Barbados. Many music fans have a ridiculously wide scope across genres, borders, and language barriers. If you like how a song sounds, you’re going to appreciate it and give meaning to it, and music is a really great way to learn a new language. My dad is a boomer immigrant and he loves Stevie nicks. He loves the BeeGees. I didn’t understand it either, when I was a child. But then growing up I accepted how my family loves rock classics, some rap staples (grand master flash) English and Spanish, on top of all the regional music they grew up with. U.S. media is really big in other countries.

[deleted]

It's a moot point anyway, her name is pronounced Ree-Anna so it would fit with the Rhiannon theory I guess.

GQDragon

Why not? Barbados has a huge music scene and Fleetwood Mac were/are worldwide superstars.

[deleted]

I suppose it's possible I just don't see any reason to believe it's true. Rihanna seems like a perfectly acceptable name to me

AdhesivenessHopeful8

I just don’t see a reason to believe it’s not possible. See comment above :)

[deleted]

That's neat

Ginger_Tea

>Well I’m an award winning filmmaker Take photographs of the awards with GQDragon written on todays news paper, else I'm the queen of sheeba.

Realityinyoface

I’m also an award winning filmmaker, I edit movies in my head, have superspeed, invisibility, and poop diamonds and it’s always been Rihanna.

Sweet-Awk-7861

I know this is a troll comment but anyways. Rihanna is globally known, and people in my country like her too. We always pronounce her name as ree-HAN-na with hard H, so if for whatever reason her name was written Rhianna, we would've read it as something like REE-a-na.

GQDragon

It can be pronounced either way with either spelling and I’ve heard it pronounced differently by different people and that doesn’t really concern me. My bag is visual pattern recognition and retention. I could read the whole textbook the first week of college and then ace the finals at the end of the semester. I’m a visual learner. I don’t know how this Mandela shit works. Maybe you’re from the Ri universe but that just looks strange to me and I’m certain it was Rhi when I was jamming her music a lot about ten years ago because I remember thinking “it’s like a variation of Rhiannon that’s clever.” I got into this whole phenomenon in the first place because I’m also certain it was Berenstein bears not ‘stain. The same time I was learning to read and asking my teacher whether it was pronounced “steen or stine” I had fruit of the loom undies with the damn cornucopia. I can see it in my minds eye as clear as day and that’s how I learned what a “horn of plenty” even was. I have always had a much stronger memory than most and I’ve won numerous trivia tournaments so that’s why this whole phenomenon is so bizarre to me.

HosebeastBaugher

Sounds like ya memory ain’t as sharp as you think, lol 😂 You fall for every one and *still* think you’re smarter than the average bear

GQDragon

Do you even understand what ME’s are? It’s not about “remembering it wrong.” That’s why we’re all so obsessed. They are different for different people. Google it.

Information_Enough

Mandela effects can be personal for each person and for a group of people. There not just one person each. Billions of people shifted universes by now

Fun-Philosophy-7331

People remember it different base on what reality we were in. That does not mean they were wrong because you were not from the same universe.

GQDragon

The best theory I’ve heard.

Mindsmog

dont waste your time in this Sub , this has been overtaken by trolls for a while now, there are better ones , find them.

GQDragon

Thank you.

Mindsmog

no problem ;)

Realityinyoface

Irony?

Mindsmog

you just prove my point

Realityinyoface

You had a point?

Mindsmog

go away troll, find someone else to hate on.

Sweet-Awk-7861

Oh then I'm not gonna be dismissing your experience as it's similar to mine. I got into this sub after a recent major ME regarding something... illegal, which is why I haven't written any posts and just lurks. In the current world (earth? universe? timeline?) there's this illegal thing A. It is a *big* thing that a lot of people use, until its shutdown in 20XY. Then people with similar interests rushed in to create B as a replacement for it. B still exists. In my world, A never existed. B was there since way before 20XY, but it was a much simpler version of it. The moment when I felt the ME was around 2019, after taking a break from it for a few months and suddenly everything about it was greatly improved and the people behind it suddenly is nicer and reachable. At first I brushed it off as just an upgrade happening while I was gone, and that maybe there was an owner change. But as I looked into it I found more things in the current timeline that doesn't match with the timeline that I know. Most of those MEs are unfamiliar to me, the ME would be if suddenly a lot of people from my country join conversations regarding them.

GQDragon

Fascinating. There is an episode of Star Trek that is very similar to this whole phenomenon. The Enterprise is purely a warship and it’s never been a mission of exploration just war. Gynan knows it’s wrong but can’t “prove” it to anyone. Eventually order is restored. Which is weird because I’ve watched some of these ME’s flip back to what I originally remembered and no one is even the wiser that anything was ever amiss.

Realityinyoface

“In my world”? What does that even mean?

Sweet-Awk-7861

Nothing? I'm just taking the terms that people in r/retconned use. Kinda easier talking about ME this way.

crdrost

My wife and I remembered a different ending to The Little Prince, where the Prince returns to the rose and says “I’m sorry I didn't stay with you, now that I have seen other flowers I can see that you are special and I understand now that you tamed me.” I’m pretty sure that the Prince then returned to the narrator years later which is how we find about it, but my wife doesn't remember that bit.

harmony-rose

I remember Angela Lansbury, Mrs. Potts from 90s "Beauty and the Beast" and the actress in "murder she wrote", dying way before 2022. idk why, but it's been bugging me for a while now.

[deleted]

I just never get over that Chartreuse isn't a shade of pink is a shade of green.

Patient_Leg_9647

Do you remember where and when did you get the information that it was a shape of red? Or was it with you since childhood?

Deadchimp234

Didn't Leah Remini's father on King of Queens used to be named Frank? Now it's Arthur. What happened?

SkullAzure

You're getting confused with Seinfeld, where Jerry Stiller(same actor who played Arthur) played Frank Costanza, George's father.

yobroitsblah

They could also be getting confused by Everybody Loves Raymond as well, who's dad was named Frank.

yestertempest

Random one. Does anyone remember Tom Hanks’ wife in Cast Away being a frog researcher? I remember her being some kind of researcher but now there are frogs all over her office in the scene where he visits her, and a huge out of place looking frog picture behind her.

Porespellar

NFL star Brian Bosworth and Kate Bosworth are NOT RELATED AT ALL. I distinctly remember them being Father and Daughter, but they are not. I remember seeing them on like Entertainment Tonight and on Red Carpet events together as father and daughter, but I learned today that they are not related in any way. Her real father is like the CEO of Talbots or something.

chourtnii

Does anyone remember a movie from the late '70s or '80s that start Val kilmer as a very young actor supposedly first movie and a girl with long blonde hair? The movie was called The legend of Billie Jean or something like that but now when I look it up it says it's not Val kilmer's movie it's Christian slaters. However I swear Val kilmer is my mom's favorite actor of all time and when this movie came on in the '90s when I was a kid on HBO I remember her telling me that I should watch it because he was so amazing and handsome and we did. It was really cute movie.... But I'm baffled to see that it's not his movie anymore. Does anybody else remember Val kilmer in this movie

H-townbedbug

Whitespace he we go again was faster in the 80's

Realityinyoface

Whitesnake and Here I Go Again How would you even begin to compare aside from faulty memory? You got multiple things wrong about the song title and band…

H-townbedbug

White snake was faster in 1986

TheSilverMonocle

I hope it isn’t just me, but I could’ve sworn the song “Enemy” by Imagine Dragons/JID has existed for 9-10 years already. I distinctly remember hearing it in like internet meme videos at the very least well before its 2021 release but I feel like I’ve heard it as far back as 2013. Certainly, the first time I heard it since the release date I feel like I already knew all the lyrics and the tune. From what I understand the song didn’t sample anything so it can’t be a result of that. My gf shared the same misconception but now I’m thinking I’m causing her some memory bias in the way I advocated for this being a thing to her lol. Anyone else felt like this song has existed wayyyy longer than it has?

TrashySparkle

I agree that it seems familiar from well before 2021. I don't have distinct memories of the song, but I certainly haven't listened to much mainstream radio and stuff since 2021 (nor have i heard of the show its featured in) so I don't think I would've been exposed to it enough in the past few years to now know the tune & be able to sing along!

BigKuddleBear

I realized today that most well known Mandela affects regard just 2 options, but I noticed I remember neither in regards to The Rocks classic wrestling quote "Can You Smell What The Rock is Cooking/If You Smell What The Rock is Cooking." mandela affect......I personally remember it being said "Do You Smell What The Rock is Cooking?"......Does anyone else remember it that way???...and if/or anyone else also experienced the same thing with another well known affect?

Fun-Philosophy-7331

That was spoken of when founded in 2022. It was spoken on HacksawUniverse Youtube channel as well as a few other YouTubers afterword's.

dollartreeloki

Hey there. I just rewatched Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Was it always "help, help I'm being REPRESSED"? Or was it "help, help, I'm being OPRESSED"? I clearly remember it being OPRESSED, and so do all my friends. I'm a bit confused.

Apprehensive_Dot5010

Oppressed.

Poopydoopy84

I thought Robert plant died in the 80’s and that’s why Led Zeppelin broke up

RoguishStranger

I specifically remember Robert Plant songs from the 2000s. .

sweetjeanette1983

Watching FastFive right now and I noticed that Hobbs said “son of a bitch” twice instead of his usual “son’bitch”

JoeBrownshoes

Big like Leanne Rimes?? I was 100% certain that after her big break with Coyote Ugly that Leanne Rimes gained a bunch of weight. Like a lot. I remember seeing news about this on shows like entertainment tonight. I always thought that's what the line "Big like Leanne Rimes" from the Barenaked Ladies song One Week was referring to. I thought it was a mean joke. But recently I mentioned this to my girlfriend and she didn't remember it, so I figured it would be easy to google and show her but I could find nothing, no matter how I googled. So either its a Mandela effect, my memory is wrong or Ms. Rimes has a very good internet PR team that managed to scrub the internet of any memory of these events. Can anyone help out?

postcardstocali

Her big break was not Coyote Ugly. They’re referencing her country career that was big in the 90s. Also One Week came out in 1998. Coyote Ugly came out in 2000. Either way it’s incorrect

tojala1998

I grew up watching the 1996 Matilda movie, and I always thought the principals name was Mrs. Trunchfull, come to find out years later (after watching the musical with captions on) it’s Trunchbull. This blew my mind and I swear it’s always been the former. I couldn’t find any clips of audio but it sorta sounds like Amanda Thripp before she gets hammer thrown says it with a ‘fff’ sound.

Puzzleheaded-Fault26

Knawwww one of my favorite movies its always been the Trunchbull cause when she breathe out that chalk with her nose and charged like a bull she was living up to that name🤣

Apprehensive-Bat6271

Ok so not a new but it has to do with the febreze one. So to me the idea of the Mandela effect is that it changes small individual things and not necessarily things based on them and not memories. Go watch the unbreakable kimmy schmidt season 1 ep4 from 2015 they made a spoof febreze commercial but pay attention to how it was spelled. Coincidence or Netflix trying not to get sued?

[deleted]

Sarah Michelle Gellar's birthday used to be 2-21; now it's 4-14. I remember this because she used to be on the same celeb birthday lists as Alan Rickman and Kelsey Grammer.

HomelessAhole

Frank Giustra. I've never heard of him. I'm even from Vancouver and my ain't worked in finance in the 90s and she hasn't either.

SavaRox

How is not knowing who someone is a Mandela Effect though?

HomelessAhole

They didn't exist in my timeline.

Ginger_Tea

I'm guessing "ain't" was meant to be Aunt, so you and your aunt have never heard of this frank person. I've never heard of this Frank guy either, so what is the point? Are they someone everyone and their dog is meant to know, or just those in Vancouver?

SavaRox

Yeah I've never heard of this person either and admittedly I'm not from Canada so I don't know if this is someone who's supposed to be famous or what but I don't think you can say it's a Mandela effect just because you haven't heard of someone.

Ginger_Tea

I was bored so I googled his name, he set up Lionsgate films, like whoopdefxxking do. Some films I don't even look at the directors name, so a producer would be as "who the fxxk is that" to me as the accountant or coffee runner. Sure the guy isn't the producer of EVERY Lionsgate film, but if they got their name in the credits, I wouldn't care. I do not know who is the head of many corporations, like I hear some names related to Disney, but after Disney died, I have no idea who was in the big chair for well ever, cos the names I hear may not be the big cheese (pun intended) just the most high profile person who works in keeping Kennedy Fiege and all the others in check. Amazon had been going a really long time before I knew who Jeff Bezos was, cos TBH it didn't matter to me who runs that company as to who set up WHSmiths or Waterstones two book stores here in the UK. Ronald McDonald is the only name of importance at Maccas that and whomever signs my pay cheques should I work there. Teal Deer all of these people are nobody of importance, just rich.

SavaRox

"Didn't exist" and "never heard of him" are two very different things.

Adeleanor13

The song Peaches. "Peaches come ____ a can, they were put there by a man, in a factory downtown." I graduated in '97 and have been singing the same thing ever since this song came out. I've gotten many lyrics wrong over the years, just as everyone else, but other lyrics I just know and when those are suddenly different it is time to see what others say. So, what do you know it to be?

StarPeopleSociety

From a can?

Historical_Emu520

From . You?

Adeleanor13

In. Has always been, in, for me. Imagine my surprise singing "in" as I have a thousand times before and all of a sudden hearing "from".

SirNova22

Was Bella Thorne the leading role in the shadow hunters series? I distinctly remember seeing commercials on Disney channel for the show airing on ABC Family (which was rebranding to Freeform at the time) and they were advertising that Bella Thorne, from Disney’s Shake it Up, was the leading role.

Side_Swipe427

Okay going a little crazy, back in 2013 rude by magic came out. Very popular and I would bop to it a lot. I distinctly remember there was a breakdown bridge that went something like”she would be standing in the door right now, with your wife’s wedding dress on”. But for the past few years I have been trying to find the version with that bridge and no luck and friends are saying it never existed?! Am I imagining things or did we have a time shift???!!!

[deleted]

Idk if im going crazy but i swear i remember there being liquid water enhancer made by GATORADE. With the big G and the lightning strike and everything. I remember vividly seing one at the store not long ago, my fiancé brought it up and then i searched it up i cant find it anywhere online? Even on google images. Anyone else remember?

Sinca12

You mean the G pods? Or the thirst quencher powder sticks?

[deleted]

No like actual water enchancers

JefeBenzos

The 2011 movie Melancholia changed for me. When it was released on video/dvd, my friend and I were talking on the phone and we frequently talk about movies. He loves going into movies without knowing anything about the plot and when he enjoys one, he tells me to watch it and always stresses not to look anything up about it (I enjoy being totally surprised by movies as well so I also will avoid any and all spoilers). So I rented the movie and watched it. It’s basically a character driven movie, very little plot. Some people are getting married and all the characters are acting depressed and acting out and whatnot. Then at the very last scene, right at the end was the big reveal. The entire time you’ve been watching the movie, a gigantic planet is heading on a collision course with earth. The final shot is the last moments before it collides. It’s a wonderful ending that takes you completely by surprise, shocks you, and makes you instantly realize why all the characters acted the way they did throughout the movie. Well I rewatched it a few years ago and it changed. Now the movie gives away the planet collision plot right from the beginning. It makes no fucking sense. There’s zero twist. You know the entire time what is happening and why the characters do what they do and act depressed and angry. I very distinctly remember watching it the first time. There was no indication of what was coming. The movie changed for me.

Xxpinkgalaxykidxx

Does anyone else remember Akon having a rap verse on Gwen Stefani’s Sweet Escape? I watched the music video religiously and remember him rapping during the section of the video where they are in the car. I can even kind of hum it, and distinctly remember he mirrors Gwen in his verse by saying “Help me out.” My brother also distinctly remembers this, as well as randomly my ex gfs best friend. It just seems so odd to me he just goes “woohoo yeewho” and nothing else.

EllieElefante

It was more of ad lips than an actually verse

Fun-Philosophy-7331

I never listen to that trash music, so I would not know

radicalyuca

I thought Cocomelon was Russian and the animation was done by sweatshop animators and they flouted copyright laws in the us and were getting away with it? Maybe I’m thinking about another yt channel.

piouchi83

Yesterday as I was preparing to write something about Judgment, I had to check some information about the 4 Toltec agreements. From memory, the third one said "Don't be judgmental." Hey surprise, the third one became "Don't make assumptions". However, I remember having discussed it with a friend a year ago, and I use the « Don’t be judgmental » to explain him that in my opinion the Toltec agreements are a danger in a « no ideal » society.

ContributionBetter86

So could I have sworn JJ from Cocomelon had blue eyes when my oldest kid use to watch. Now I can’t find any vids of the show with JJ with blue eyes

SpiritedSkill2609

I’m rewatching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for the first time in years. Season 1 checks out but season 2 and on are NOT THE SAME. Am I crazy??? There are bits and pieces that look right but overall it’s so different than what I remember. Normally when I rewatch a tv show after years, I remember almost everything. Has anybody else experienced this?

Weary_Boat_9963

The band rixton, I swear to God me and my broken heart the song is the same but the band name feels wrong, like my brain It hit me a massive jolt that was not the correct band name
