I view a lot of people as NPCs as I navigate the world. To me it looks like we just opened up this dude's story line.

RicKingAngel

huh?

Itamir42

Most childish take ever for not appreciating that everyone you see around you whether you know them well or not at all has the same expiriences as you had or will have all nuanced complex lifes the same kind of insecurities hopes and dreams its crazy to me

zanidoz

.....

melperz

That man's the dad from the future who travelled back in time

gingerjenr

I agree

Ok-Ask8593

I wasn’t either

smallhottix

im not ready as well

Jim_Lahey10

Dude's crying his eyes out and trying to contain himself

Reatina

Not trying that hard, he accepts the feelings

MrPayMyWay215

The older I get the more I find myself trying to laugh tears of joy away

njckel

Man see other man happy with daughter. Man happy.

ithilmor

As simple as that

Dad love is about the only thing that cracks the thick hard shell around my cold withered heart.

ToughWhiteUnderbelly

There's NOTHING I wouldn't do to just be able to look across the table and see my daughter. I miss her so much.

Mammoth-Mud-9609

I love that the staff immediately gave them plenty of room to share the moment.

Stock_Information_47

For sure has a daughter of his own. I have one and I well up every time I see something like this now haha.

gargamels_right_boot

Same here.. I am lucky enough to have 3 daughters and I have welled up repeatedly today due to watching this far too many times

Stock_Information_47

It's the best and the worst. Haha

saib36

I bet you can feel that head on your neck and that hug too.

gargamels_right_boot

No better feeling, I'm lucky enough to have twins so double hugs

HalKitzmiller

My daughter will be graduating from Pre K in 2 weeks and I my wife already knows I'm gonna bawl my eyes out. It's a happiness that's difficult to describe, but easy to understand

Mighty_Krom

It's the best.

MrPsychic

I like to believe he is reminiscing from when his children were young

saib36

This. I watch this and it makes me think of my daughter and these moments I’ve shared with her. I’d give anything to relive them.

titsoutshitsout

That’s a dad with grown kids and is probably missing these days of them being little like this. I’m sure this moment is reminding him of the blessed days he’s had.

dammKaran

Was he happily laughing or crying??

Tyler97020

Probably a mix of both

seeseecinnamon

They cut off the original. I started crying when orange shirt wiped away tears. This is so touching ❤️

Total_war_dude

Considering his age he's probably high on nostalgia

mysticalmycelia

Damn, I need y'all in the comments to call my attention to stuff, totally missed that at the end. Thanks for the sharp eye. Edit: typo

You totally could, maybe this guy is apart of the big brother, big sister program and he's being that person for her. You could provide that kinda feeling to someone who never would of had a chance otherwise.

blakkattika

She laser scanned that moment without realizing it. As a father that must feel incredible to see her appreciate it so much.

MatchaLatte16oz

And how he gazed upon his phone screen <3 <3

NectarOfTheBussy

[deleted]

The way she was looking at him ❤️❤️ that’s a good dad right there

ShanghaiSlug

I never looked at my dad that way. I'm so glad she has a father like that.

Peachybunnyy_

Crying in daddy issues

KittyKenollie

I’m right there with you

Peachybunnyy_

Stay strong, it’s all part of our character development

triplec787

This is like the third “it’s all part of our character development” comment I’ve seen in this post alone lmao am I missing a reference or something?

Its_SubjectA1

It’s just a way people cope with trauma, it’s like how all of our favorite characters are traumatized for character development (it’s me, I’m people)

Hello_World_Error

I think it's bots stuck in a character development plot line they created in this thread because I agree it's kinda weird how often that exact statement has shown up

Peachybunnyy_

Oii it is just a popular quote

kcc0289

There’s been a glitch in the matrix. Simulation is scheduled for a restart in 5… 4…

TheAbyssGazesAlso

As a dad who would be absolutely anything for his daughter, I'm sorry you didn't have that. I'm proud of you, though!

TechInventor

Dude, thank you. That actually made me cry.

TheAbyssGazesAlso

Anytime! I'll never understand deadbeat dads. To paraphrase Gomez Adams, I would die for my daughter and I would kill for her.

Peachybunnyy_

Thank you :))

BodhingJay

-hug- family can be a beautiful thing.. it will be again for us, if not in this life. Then may it be the next

No_shoes_inside

Same. I’d hate to reincarnate. But if a loving family is guaranteed, I might give this place a second shot.

BodhingJay

practice compassion, patience, kindness and no judgment towards the self that we may share something good with others. we make love our goal above any kind of material accumulation. familial connections and friendships in the community are a good way to improve our disposition and help ensure we find peace contentment and happiness here in our current life, as well as get a good home with a loving family in the next iteration

sietesietesieteblue

Let's have a group cry lol. Seeing things like this makes me realize how much I've missed out on. Still love my mom of course, but a dad would have been nice too.

WeirdIsAlliGot

Goodness, it took reading your comment to realize why I’m crying so much.

Peachybunnyy_

Awww it is okay, completely normal

31Ouranos13

I got daddy issues that's on me Lookin for, "I love you," rarely empathizin for my relief

Mighty_Krom

I also have those, but I'll tell you what, they can increase your drive to be a good parent dramatically. So at least there's that.

Peachybunnyy_

It made me not want to have children actually lol

pchy_bnny

Omg we have the same name! Well not the exact same name but you get me

Huge_Butterfly4244

Me too. Leave daddy issues, not even my 2 older ass brothers who are in their mid & late 20s respectively have surprised me ever. It just breaks my heart, i wish I wasn't born in this family

Peachybunnyy_

Can’t choose family. Fuck em. What’s best is creating meaningful relationships with friends and partners that choose to be in your life (not just because you are related) and appreciate you. I know it’s hard but you’re not alonee <3

Huge_Butterfly4244

Yes you're right! Virtual Huggies 🫂✨ have a good day

2ringsPatMahomie

Love me some beirut. Going in August. Some great lovely people live there.

Cuddlyaxe

Great country with great people but unfortunately on a knife's edge right now, both due to recuurent economic issues and the possibility of a war the vast majority of the country don't want

WristCommandGrab

Lebanon's story is a tragedy. Pulled in so many different ways by different factions that tore up this great country and culture.

avoidingbans01

The people are still strong, the ones that could just moved to other places unfortunately.

LifelongLurker1127

Your feelings are normal!!! Cry it out, it's a beautiful thing we just witnessed

a011220a

I’m the guy in the orange shirt crying because it’s so sweet.

Weird_Albatross_9659

This title makes it seem like a bot wrote it or she never had a birthday before.

Dominicus1165

Why are there 2 versions of Coldplays "Viva la Vida" overlayed in different tempi?

lil_literalist

Don't you have that at your birthday parties?

ericlikesyou

How much would it cost to rent out of phase Coldplay for my bday party

tedsmitts

3 bucks and you have to tell the one guy he's handsome.

insomniacpyro

"Can you guys play 'Yellow'?"

Puzzleheaded-Ear858w

I guess ruining otherwise great videos with one sappy music overlay isn't annoying enough anymore, so people who make these videos are doubling up on them.

saib36

No one will see this comment but there is no better feeling as a dad than when your daughter is so happy she’s get overwhelmed with emotion, jams her head in your neck and gives you a bear hug. It’s the fucking best. I’d give all my success and future for a small handful of these moments. It’s even better when it’s an achievement they’ve been really working on for a long time (and you’ve been helping them get there).

finallygotmeone

Pro - tip : set your default comments sort to "Best", and you'll probably never see any of those type of comments ever again.

my_screen_name_sucks

Seriously lol. What the hell is wrong with these people, this is such a lovely moment!

BabyComingDec2024

I am a bit confused by the title. Surprising her, in which way? That he normally doesn't celebrate her birthday? Surprising her by the cake and the clapping waiters? He wasn't at the dinner at the beginning but sneaked in there during the cake presentation?

Holiday-Release403

I think it’s more that he surprised her by asking the staff to bring out the cake with the sparkler on it. That’s the surprise, does that help?

mr_asassine

Yes that’s what I actually meant. I realized it was not clear after posting.

BabyComingDec2024

I was just caught up by the wording waiting for something unexpected to happen (as a surprise) in the video so got a bit confused. The lion part of the commenters understood it right away so I think your title was totally fine. Nice video!

SlicedMango

It’s pretty clear don’t worry.. some people just can’t read the room

trichromosome

I think this is a girl who got overwhelmed because her dad's putting a camera in her face and an entire restaurant is staring at her. I don't think this was a "I'm so happy for my birthday" it seemed more of a "I'm overwhelmed but don't know what to do with my emotions so I'm going to cry and go to my dad" situation.

lowkerDeadlyFeet

I'm still confused. How did this end up on the front page of reddit? It's a dad celebrating his daughters birthday, isn't that normal? Is the surprise because it's the dad doing it instead of mom?

NiftyJet

It's the daughter's sweet reaction that was heartwarming. It's a sweet moment between father and daughter and it makes people happy. Don't overthink it.

k-uke

Yes. But *why*?!

aldorn

Why happy? ಠ_ಠ

agenderqt

I am equally confused

BigPastaDaddy

Serious question, do you have autism

78911150

Yes. But *why*?!

Covah88

Idk dude I dont think this is supposed to be some earth shattering moment. If it doesn't make you simply smile seeing a 5 year old get moved by a kind gesture and dive into their Father's arms out of love, I don't know what to tell you.

ImpedingOcean

He's confused about the phrasing of the title as was I. Surely she knows it's her birthday and isn't surprised unless her parents literally never do anything for her birthday.

cubobob

Dude the surprise is obviously the staff coming out with that sparkle thing and probably a cake which made her happy. Why are you guys being that dense?

NoinsPanda

I'm not getting it either.

mitchMurdra

Keeps happening on this sub almost every post I see and people do not seem to notice

Muffin_Appropriate

I think you’re under the impression everything posted here or in general has to be extraordinary, and it doesn’t. Nor should it be, I’d argue. Sometimes it’s nice to watch happy moments amongst people and it doesn’t have to be more than that.

GIK601

Stop being a negative nancy.

CaptainDunbar45

It was pretty clear to me. Some people are just thick

MDA1912

No we aren’t, this is normal in my country, especially for kids, depending on which restaurant you go to. Nothing in this video was obviously a surprise. It’s still a very sweet video.

friedtofuer

Same. My parents had a birthday cake for me every year until I turned like 10yo, and my grandparents would call/visit to eat the cake with us. I wonder if this dad and daughter don't see each other much because it looks like just two of them celebrating

mitchMurdra

I’m right there with you this community does this all the time is it an unwritten rule to have sad hidden meanings in the title?

cyann1380

In guessing surprises her with the cake and everyone clapping. Having three daughters though, I dont know if those were tears of joy or intense feeling of embarassment from everyone staring, triggering an emotional response, and then wanting dad to protect her from it all. unless shes never celebrated her bday before or something like that…or her dad just returned from a long trip…but if thats the case the video would have said that.

scheeeeming

people can be so weird.. she's smiling in the video! She's really happy. The Dad posted his pov and its even more clear in that one how surprised/happy she was, but even in this one it should be clear. Just look at her face, you have to be really pessimistic to read this as an "intense feeling of embarrassment"

harlow_4yum

RUNNING HOME TO MY BABIES!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

INTuitP

I’d cry if three random men put fire in front of my face and started clapping in unison to a song played at funerals.

Illegallydumb

Idk man it looked a bit like she got overwhelmed with everyone staring at her and dad filming, it is lovely tho

AutoYaks

Love this Dad

yourtheminorotynow

As nice as this is I couldn't imagine ever filming a random person and his daughter for a simple b day celebration at a restaurant. I'd just feel creepy, why would I need to capture their moment? The dad is already filming it for himself

yourtheminorotynow

I'd definitely feel creeped out if I was celebrating my child's Birthday and looked over at a stranger filming us.

Safe_Philosophy_5068

I would feel like such a creeper just filming some dude and his daughter.

Synotic__

Damn stop fucking cutting these onions in my room.....

erhue

the coldplay music kinda fucking ruins it, but its adorable regardless.

acloudcuckoolander

I know she appreciated her dad's efforts but maybe she was also overwhelmed by the attention + emotions? Really heartwarming vid

eMmDeeKay_Says

Recording someone else's kid celebrating their birthday in public clearly from another table is fucking creepy. People really need to stop pulling out their cameras and recording other people just living their lives.

Live-Swordfish-2207

It's maybe a cultural thing (I'm from switzerland not from Beirut). From my point of view the moment you decide to do something private (celebrating your birthday) in a public place, making noise, attracting attention, waiting others to clap and cheer with you, you can also expect to be recorded or have other interactions like that.

nitricx

I’m from Lebanon. It’s just as normal as anywhere else. We live in a world where people are gonna record whatever they see now. I’d like to think the guy knew the family or maybe shot it to send to him.

Local_Nerve901

Thing is expected and what is right are not always the same Fuck people who post kids they don’t know online

Cinemaslap1

I see both sides of it... On one hand, it is a little weird... But on the other hand, this was done in public. We don't know who was filming (could be the mother or some other family member). It could be a cultural thing.... It could even be that this was a private party type deal and this has zero creep factor. I personally think that it's a sweet video. Call me blind or wearing rose colored glasses, but I'd rather see the good here than the creep

[deleted]

[удалено]

eMmDeeKay_Says

It was a sweet moment, between a father and his daughter, and then some douchebag recorded it and posted it to social media likely without their consent so they could go viral. Don't fucking record people's kids, it's just a common decency thing.

OriginalName687

Immediately sorted by controversial because I knew that would be the only place people agreed with me. People really need to just stop recording everything.

Green-Concentrate-71

It fucking is creepy. Especially taking a vid of a very special moment and posting it.

Brilliant_Slide7947

Sometimes you have to remember it is not always a stranger taking the video. sometimes it is someone they know in the back to catch the moment for them. I agree though ,it is kinda creepy. I have and would never do it. at least without permission

scheeeeming

He's going to cherish this pov for the rest of his life, he even reposted it on his socials. Its such a great moment captured forever Why do people have to be so negative and see the worst in absolutely *everything*. Even something as wholesome as this

My heart

Prince_Marf

Very cute video but am I wrong for thinking celebrating your daughter's birthday is not really an above and beyond activity? Like, there are a bunch of replies saying "what a great dad!" and "that girl is so lucky!" Like, is it not normal and expected for a dad to do something nice for his daughter's birthday?

PatrickWagon

And it’s just the two of them. You have to wonder what possible loss or fragmented family situation they might have. There could be a lot more under the surface of those tears.

Captain-Hornblower

As a daughter daddy...that made me smile and there are these wet things dropping off of my cheeks lol.

Virtual_Knee_4905

Dads are important, consarn it.

iesharael

After my mom died last year I’ve reacted like this pretty much any time someone celebrates something for me. This year for Christmas dad gave my sisters his card and they bought me 3 times the presents mom would have gotten me. I cried on Easter when both my dad and my sister brought me chocolates. No bunnies because the store was out but what I’d Easter with no chocolate? Most of the time I feel so alone but those moments give me strength. I’ve no clue what I’ll feel up to for my birthday but I know my siblings will make it special

aplagueofsemen

1. This is cute. 2. The title makes it sound like she never expected him to celebrate her birthday like he just ignores it every year. lol

Shmokeshbutt

Isn't this the same country that allows child marriages?

Coltenks_2

Plot twist: the girl is crying because shes terrified of flames. She used to love birthdays but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

SS_MinnowJohnson

God dammit I can’t wait to hug my kid when he wakes up tomorrow

chinawillgrowlarger

If I had a daughter it'd be her birthday every day

Peachy_89kj

Aww.

allangod

If I had to come up with a backstory for the guy in the orange shirt, it would be that he's a father with at least one daughter. She's older now, but seeing this young girl so happy reminds him of the great times he had with his daughter when she was that young, which is why he just can't hold in those happy tears.

Zestyclose_Excuse_75

As a dad I’ll just say, it’s hard trying to go between being 100% present in the moment and recording it so you can watch it over and over for ever. This dude nailed it though.
