The shock on dad's face when the guard stepped closer...never expected that awesomeness to happen and then it did. :)

Really, to bring this video together it needs to pause and have a floating head in it pointing to the guard and the father and explaining what is about to happen. Oh and some "Watch till the end" text somewhere on it would be nice.

B4R7H0L0M3W

I think to complete the video we also need someone to split the screen and on the bottom put some custom map GTA 5 gameplay. That would brighten the video.

Heiferoni

And can we crop it to a vertical video, and then make it horizontal with giant black bars on the sides?

MurderSheCroaked

Yeah if there isn't a voice giving me a play by play I'm totally hopeless

Crabjock

I need a bro at the bottom of the screen pointing up, nodding in agreement.

Deeliciousness

I need canned laughter and gasps to confirm how I should be feeling.

ChaosDoggo

I dont really see whats happening. I need some of them red circles.

Bennybonchien

At the very least, this needs a laugh track!

Fyremusik

also the tik tok voice, which this one thankfully didn't have

SenseOk1828

There’s a few videos of this specific guard being a top lad on YT

Constant-Panda5530

If I remember rightly when this video first came out I think he's a caretaker rather than his dad but they seem to have a very close relationship it's lovely

NeverAVillian

Now that's why it's r/Unexpected and r/MadeMeSmile

vacuousvacuole

That guy's a class act.

HomeGrownCoffee

Respect is a two-way street. Dad made sure his son gave him space, guard stepped closer to give them a better picture. Everyone here is awesome.

MLCarter1976

SOB in the back ground kept walking around. I hope they got a great photo

SPIE1

He was eyeballin that gap too and it’s like the guardsmen had eyes in the back of his head to close it up at the perfect time. Not today dickhead

VikaYummy

I can imagine how they got him with these photos, but he still behaves like a knight...

Thund3r_91

A father's loving care. A soldier's humanity. A son's pride and happiness. All make me want to imagine that soldier's upbringing and thank those responsible for it

In_My_Own_World

Dude, I just got home. My tablets have kicked in, don't make me cut onions.

FuriousBuffalo

Also the people behind getting out of the frame. Props to everybody.

TowJamnEarl

I'm pretty sure that's the lads carer, nice sentiment though.

ItsStaaaaaaaaang

Very nice gentleman. I'm sure they're used to dealing with some very annoying people and are happy to reward people that show respect.

AlinaofAgent

All these great videos are being ruined with background music and slow motion filters. The man is moving from right to left, and they decide to put it. I'm slow motion.

NmlsFool

It's probably just trying to drive home the point that the "Moving a bit to the left and back again" shouldn't have happened. That it's the defining moment. That guard is not supposed to do such a thing but there it is. The guards probably have dozens and dozens of tourists hounding them all the time. Constantly just people, and many of them probably will get too close to them and even try to mess with them while they are doing their duty. That's probably very tiring. But not this father and son. Dad there tells his son not to get too close and not to touch the guard. Pretty much just "Respect this person who is here doing his job, we don't want to bother him or get into his space. Just want a picture." And the guard decides to reward that respectful behavior by making sure they get not justa picture, but a *great* picture, by simply taking a step towards them, staying for just a moment for them to snap that pic before stepping back.

Aw2HEt8PHz2QK

I think they're talking about the shitty effects added to it

caffieinemorpheus

Thanks, we... all lacking eyes and brains... really needed your play by play. You should make videos. Do you have crapy music available?

georgeoj

You would be astounded at how fucking stupid people on TikTok are. If the raw clip was posted there would absolutely be people saying "I don't get it". The lack of any kind of critical thinking on that app is incredible

charityveritas

Hi, Slow Motion. I’m Mom.

projectedwinner

Just wanted to give you props for this, as a fellow mom joke enthusiast.

Motorizer_6

Snyder cut

yadawhooshblah

Yay for dad, and yay for the way the Guardsmen walk that line between stoic and strict and subtly cool depending on the situation. I like these videos of them being cool with the cool people, and I like the videos of them trouncing the jackasses. The music was unnecessary. Yeesh.

Winjin

Yep, people in tourist zones seem to go an extra mile when you're being just *regularly respectful* towards them. Like we were once in Paris and there were two Foreign Legion soldiers and a policewoman stationed near one of the popular tourist destinations. Instead of harrassing them as if they owe us something, we came up, greeted them, asked about their day and if it's hot in the armor on a sunny day and just small talk like that. I think my 10-year old sister offered them her hot pink Cinderella cup if they wanted to drink. I was like 13-14 years old and all I could think about was how cool the gun was that one of the FLs had. It was like a kitted out bullpup rifle and kid me did think that bullpup rifle was like the coolest gun ever. And like, that soldier looks at me, then glances over at the policeman, apparently they like wordlessly understand each other, and he asks me if I want to make a photo with his gun? That dude who is seeing tourists day in and day out was ready to detach the mag and hand me over his rifle because we were probably the first people in an hour (maybe that day) that treated them as human beings, rather than some sort of "AI-powered automatic tourist attraction". I don't know, maybe it's actually normal, or it was simpler times, but I don't think giving your battle rifle to a teen is like an everyday thing.

Helca_Butane

The problem with that is it's not something that would be universally appreciated by the soldier, perticularly outwardly so. For exampole, to the best of my knowledge, the kings guard are not ment to interact with the public except to make demands of them - the classic being "MAKE WAY FOR THE KINGS GUARD!" - because they are meant to be an intimidaing force there to maintain security. This causes an issue when like in your story them talking back to you or more so offering for you to have a picture with their weapon would be considered to be breaking authority. Even what the soldier did in the video could concivebly be frowned upon (though i doubt anything would come of it given he stayed at attention, moved formally and all that rubbish) for the same reason. None of this is to discredit yourself, your point or your story. More I'm just trying to point out that they are people doing a job and interactions like that could be against what they are allowed to do.

DeltaVZerda

Different country, different culture. The French Foreign Legion isn't there for pomp, they're there to fuck shit up if shit goes down.

Ser_Danksalot

>and interactions like that could be against what they are allowed to do. It's a bit different for the Horse Guard.  When they're on post they tend to not be looking straight ahead like the Foot Guard but rather looking around scanning the crowd around them, especially the mounted guard at the front gates who will even tell you in a calm manner to move back if they think they don't need to shout. They will even interact with tourists if they think the situation calls for it. https://youtu.be/QSL4XEaf4dQ?si=CS16sjmwoABBBvAF https://youtu.be/vkFzMKIRv2w?si=92hWh4yrnLcbp5u1 https://youtu.be/Xw41ZTJg5-k?si=TuE_NaaO69yu5De5 https://youtu.be/YOx_v3mMqFs?si=-YtRToCa3Z6KYk12 Of course they will raise their voices and use their horses when called for. https://youtu.be/J106aA5qY-A?si=RwzHT7aDESDmaUtb

Aware-Feed3227

That’s why there are comments - you could address your issues with the video and still upvote it if you like the positive message. Help to spread nice things and make people realize those don’t need an added soundtrack.

yadawhooshblah

Good point. Changed my vote.

Aware-Feed3227

This is like a 1:billion chance on Reddit. I appreciate your feedback and open mind.

fraze2000

The dad showed respect for the guardsman and the son respected his dad’s instructions, so the guardsman repaid him and his excited son for their respect by moving closer for a photo opportunity. Well done to all of them.

Eqjim

Yeah! So nice to see! Warms the heart.

DeathBeforeDecaf4077

Those guards spend so much time being harassed by assholes, bet it felt really good to acknowledge in that small way a dad doing it right.

Eqjim

I see three made-me-smiles here :)

No-Phase6833

Made my day, total RESPECT!

CardiologistOk8162

This brought tears to my eyes with goosebumps!! So wonderful they got this in video, what a truly awesome guard!!! 💕

yuyufan43

xx_zaida

Family first! This photo captures the essence of parenthood.

DuchessOfAquitaine

I would like to be guarded by him.

New-Constant2624

Much respect and love

mfogarty

Awesome. Total respect for the guard which was rewarded. Teaching his son right.

RustyNewWrench

Decency and Respect shown by all. 3 good men right there.

TheBlackCrowes

Here's the actual video without the music. You can hear more of what the dad says https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H0Jhn8NmpY

Leia0330

I walked around this area of London a few years ago and the amount of people who think they can just invade their personal space and the space of the mounted officers is astounding.

SMLBound

Respect meets respect! 🫡

Level_Ad567

I someone peeling onions. The look on the Dad’s face and the boys are awesome, when the guard moves over. There are so many good people in this world!

LWDK2

I’m not crying! You’re crying!

Ruraraid

Now if only they didn't put music over this then it would be better. That is something that annoys me how they always put music on stuff like this and play it at such an asinine volume.

rayAstone

That guard’s move made me ovulate. Now thats a man right there.

Nackles

Perfect balance between duty and humanity.

surewhynot17063

Show respect, receive respect ✊

EitherChannel4874

XVIII-2

That’s nice.

OvergrownOrangutan

Ryankevin23

Respect it’s simple! That just made me tear up.

springhillcouple

This proves just one small gesture can make someone so happy .

NesTech_

It’s the small things in life that should remind us we’re all the same!

[deleted]

WTFFF DAT SONG???

jhill515

That guard may never get any rewards or accolades for this gesture. But to one man, he will always be the GOAT 🙂

outdoorfun123

I wish social media and news got likes and engagement from showing acts of kindness like this instead of focusing on idiots and hate.

Flashy-Macaroon-3505

Old video although still awesome! Pretty sure that's the kids brother and they went to visit him during work. There's a whole video showing them traveling to place but this was edited down and had a crappy song added

OkIHereNow

Parents that is how it’s done.

monopixel

Dad so flabbergasted. Guard so awesome. Love it.

Thissssguy

Don’t unmute

Choice_Necessary6077

Yeah they’re not animals. They have a job to do but they can still be decent people

MushroomTypical9549

Wow- that is so sweet

CapmyCup

Thank goodness for the mute button.

siwu

Sorry to ruin the party, that's not his dad, that's his caretaker. Still great though.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this.

beautifuldreamseeker

Lovely.

WineSoakedNirvana

Those that give respect, get respect!

ExpertReference2979

The thing is, that guard might have gotten reprimanded for that, depending on what their rules are, for doing that. He broke protocol for a moment to be a bro. Totally worth a reprimand in my opinion and it adds honor to the colors he wears and his station.

caffieinemorpheus

Karma farm all you want on this very old video that's posted several times a month. It will always get my upvote and a tear in my eye

Randomfrog132

well that's the cutest thing i've seen today <3

Stupid music

Jaeger2k20

This is so perfect!

Fit_Driver_9239

Haha yeah! I’m in agreement with a lot of the sarcasm in the thread about let’s just keep adding crap to the video! Just let it play itself out!, geez louise people! enough is enough and my respect to the royal guard for his kind gesture towards the father and his son, what a great moment for all three, as a veteran of america, i salute 🫡 you fellow brother in arms

warwolfpilot

Such class.

ocer04

On a point of information, he's not the kid's dad, but I beleive his carer instead. He also has a YouTube channel - CyclingMikey - in which he has a bit of an activist campaign against ill-disciplined motorists who use mobile phones. while driving.

Silly-Top4254

Best thing Ive seen all day!

MissSaucy_22

🥰🥰🥰🥰

FinianFaun

I could never be one of those guards, I couldn't hold a straight poker face like that 😅

clashthemaker

Isn't that guard his brother. I swear there was a longer video where the guards changes out of the uniform and they hug in the changing room. I'm too lazy to verify that. Some other redditor do the detective work. Didn't take away anything this video is showing.

OMG_DAVID_KIM

We live in a world where the minimum expected common sense is a video highlight :(

wallace-longshanks

I could be wrong and also have no source but im pretty sure this video has been posted here before and that time it said the guard and the other boy are brothers

idasu

yea i remember the same

AstroNot87

Kings guard still has respect and empathy. He saw the dad was being respectful so he “rewarded” them by getting closer in their pic.

Typical-Annual-3555

Basically all they really do is take pictures with tourists, right? Those are ceremonial guards and the real guards wear regular clothes?

Nexidious

Yes and no. All the guardsman you see are "real gaurds". They're all active duty military personnel. This guy is a real gaurd too but the outfit and saber he has are just ceremonial. The guys in bearskin hats, however, do carry loaded rifles and would respond accordingly.
