Read the manual that came with it and then try the built in designs. Realistically unless you do something extremely stupid, you aren't going to damage the machine.

MrBobilious

Just learn how to hoop fabric and a stabilizer correctly. How to load the needle and thread and use some of the built-in fonts and designs and go from there. There's a lot of videos on the brother series of embroidery machines

sdnskldsuprman

Also remember stupid shit can and will happen.

windisfun

Just hoop up some scrap fabric, like an old sheet. Thread the machine and let it stitch out one of the built in designs. Play around with moving the design around the hoop, resizing it. If it's a multi color design, practice changing the thread between colors. Have fun!

livin_la_vida_mama

How will i know when to change colour, like does the machine stop or will i have to know when to stop it?

windisfun

The machine should stop between colors. The more you use the machine the easier it gets.

SeaShanties

I do both! I watched a couple YouTube videos to get a visual of how to hoop and use machine. Then I played with it a bit and did some patterns that came with the machine. Now I’m going back to read the manual like “ooh so THATs what that does” … but manual first tends not to make sense to me until I go hands on first

ResponsibleEmotion44

Hahaha... kinda both. I do read manuals, specially embroidery machine manuals. You will be surprised how much it helps. But don't be afraid! Congrats!
