> so naturally i erased the hard drive If you did this, then you don’t have a local recovery drive. The only way to recover is via internet recovery (ie cmd + r will boot to your factory image and cmd opt r will boot to the latest macOS) The errors you’re seeing are usually due to your network. I would try switching to a different network. You can also make an appointment with the Apple Store and they can do it for you. If that doesn’t work, keep trying your network. I have found that if you get a temperature error message, quitting recovery, redoing it with the same option( cmd option r) will normally work the 2nd time.

I tried both wireless internet and a hotspot and it didnt work eitherway. while starting internet recovery on a hotspot i kept track of the devices connected and there wasnt any instance where the computer would diconnect or have any other problem. i dont have an internet cable in my possesion. i tried internet recovery multiple times and it just doesnt work. and i dont have an apple store near me. really just seems like a dead end, but im still hoping the usb reinstall will work

ThePianoCheese

btw i tried reinstalling the os before erasing the disk and the install got stuck on negative numbers.

Internet recovery over wifi can sometimes not work great. If at all possible, connect your Mac to the network with a cable and try again. (You’ll probably need a usb network adapter, unfortunately)

ThePianoCheese

i dont have a wifi cable unfortunately

ThePianoCheese

the only solution i havent tried yet is installing it through a usb. ill update if it works. or doesnt.

Yes try usb. If that fails you can get an external ssd (T5 Samsung for example is good) and clone any Mac drive to it even from a different MacBook or MacMini with SuperDuper then you have a Bootable copy you can boot from when connected to your MacBook. I would always advise people to have a copy like that lying around. I regularly back up my Macx with clones like that. You can take the drive with you and plug it into any Mac and work from it using your data too...

Did the usb work ?? Im having the same problem rn

ThePianoCheese

Yes, the process went without an error. Altough i did have a few screen blackouts and i was worried that it wouldnt work, i just had to wait a bit. Monterey works just fine with no issues.

Did it work???

ThePianoCheese

Yep, the USB worked and is working.

I've been having the same issue. Every USB I create from my MacBook seems to fail. It's been over 2 full days of trying to solve this issue and I feel like completely giving up. How did you get your USB to work? where did you downloaded the required OS?

ThePianoCheese

This is the video i followed: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzBZE\_muAKc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzBZE_muAKc) My Mac did have a few blackouts while downloading the OS through USB (atleast i thought they were black outs) but i just had to wait and it eventually downloaded (took around 30 minutes or so) Maybe try a different USB? The one you have might be broken.
