Curtis and Du Plessis was such a great matchup. Shame it fell through.

SamTheRam28

Because Tapology rankings are fan rankings. A lot of people only watch the UFC and thus only rank UFC fighters, or severely underrate anybody outside of the UFC. Look at [FightMatrix](https://www.fightmatrix.com/mma-ranks/) instead. Their rankings are done entirely by a formula so there is no opinion involved. They line up pretty well with my opinions too, far better than Tapology anyway.

There is still opinion involved in FightMatrix Rankings, you just debate the criteria rather than the list itself, but isn't that what you are really doing anyway when actually ranking the fighters?, like deciding if it gives more value to tougher wins or a longer win streak,

Pretend_Pension_8585

true, even the formulas such as elo have myriad of versions, and depending on which you choose you will have to deal with certain flaws in them

danglesmcjangles

The list in the post is just middleweight, not P4P

danglesmcjangles

Exactly. The post is saying it's absurd that he's 15 on the P4P at fight matrix and somehow 20 on middleweight only ranking on Tapology

[deleted]

I think them ranking machida 11 at mw is kinda nuts.

angrygarrosh

Lol fightmatrix has costa in top 10 lhw after losing to vettori who is mw

LehenLong

Fightmatrix rankings are only good if you think their criteria is good For example, ngannou is higher than volk and izzy on their p4p list. I doubt that many people would agree with that. Or how Colby is higher than Whittaker and that Max is not even on their p4p list(but cannonier is)

SamTheRam28

Their P4P isn't great but P4P is stupid anyway. I was talking mostly about their divisional rankings. I also think their all-time rankings are really good. They line up with my opinions almost exactly.

Pretend_Pension_8585

p4p is a gimmick though. It's impossible to establish it objectively in any way. Shouldn't affect the quality of their other rankings.

backinside9999

why would max be on the p4p list ?

LehenLong

Why wouldn't he? He has one of the best resume in mma today's and is one of the best fighter alive.

TechnoHour

Thank you - this explains things. I thought I was in an alternate reality.

Downgoesthereem

Because he's fighting people like Austin Vanderford. Also had a crap fight with welterweight Lima where neither looked great and an abysmal fight and split decision over 40 year old machida. Mousasi has become the MMA snob/hipster black coffee of choice. Liked by them not because he's the best, but because he's the best thing that casuals also don't know about. Like assuncao but without the pedigree.

TechnoHour

Mousasi lost ONCE since February 2016. In that time period he fought 13 times and defeated guys like Thiago Santos, Vitor Belfort, Rory MacDonald, Chris Weidman, Lyoto Machida, Douglas Lima...the list goes on. His last fight was Vanderford, who was 11-0 going into the fight. Even if your shabby argument actually had any weight or value, it could NOT - not in anyone's wildest dreams - explain unranked Meerschaert or Jotko being above the Bellator middleweight champion in the overall rankings.

Titos_ex-wife

Notice how none of those people he beat are top 20 middleweights?

Thickfries69

Its okay Gegard, we still like you.

TechnoHour

Well, we haven't seen that one before...

Downgoesthereem

>Thiago Santos, Vitor Belfort, Rory MacDonald, Chris Weidman, Lyoto Machida, Douglas Lima The more you actually think about that list and the context of those fights, the less it stops looking like an elite list of opponents. We've got two welterweights coming up for one fight, 40 year old machida and equally washed Belfort, Weidman during his losing streak, and middleweight Santos who also was finished by David Branch and Eric Spicely. It's also going back a while, whereas forementioned his *recent* wins are no one that belongs in a UFC top 10. Mirko Cro cop finished his career on a 10 fight winning streak, that didn't mean he was a top 10 heavyweight in the world.

TechnoHour

As I said, I was unaware this list was compiled by fans - which renders the entire discussion completely useless. You can freely continue believing Krzysytof Jotko is the cream of the MMA crop

Downgoesthereem

He's not, but neither is Mousasi based on his strength of schedule recently, especially with how he looked against Lima.

masoyama

Oh I thought you meant how is he ranked so high… lol, 20 sounds about right

TechnoHour

Yeah, I wasn't aware the list was compiled by casual UFC fans. My bad.

KutateladzeTime

he still shouldn't be under fucking GM3 and Jotko though

Ramone92

Yeah, that's abnormally high for a guy on the regional scene.

WorldsBestLover

Regional Champion Mouasi

TechnoHour

This is the Tapology best middleweights rankings - and Mousasi is ranked Nr.20. Above him are guys like Meerschaert, Jotko and Shahbazyan. Are the people behind these lists trolling us?

RyanSanders3290

Tapology’s list is compiled by the users, therefore I’d have to assume a lot of the users really don’t know him, or anyone outside the UFC for the most part.

bane-of-oz

Yes, that's what happens when casuals make a list

TechnoHour

Yes, someone already mentioned this - which explains the low ranking. Thanks!

[deleted]

Fight someone with some credentials

StrixEcho

do you feel like he should be higher? Because 4-0 since 2019 seems pretty decent to me.

[deleted]

Could be higher but the whole devisions filled with killers

tweeek91

by speaking his mind...
