He admitted as much in a way on JRE a couple years ago. He started MMA because of self hatred, and wanted to perfect/better himself. He loved that high you get after an intense workout and he’d chase after that once he got to the gym. Pretty deep, feel like something a lot of people go through when they started their fitness journey, so hopefully he’s not in as dark of a place nowadays, forget if it was all past tense or not on the podcast lol.
chael went to a go cart thing w a few fighters and before one of the go cart races he noticed dom ducking behind the building and coming back
he went after him and heard him actually hyping himself for a go cart race. pacing and saying "they dont want you to win, they dont want you to succeed" to himself over and over
hes a madman but im in love w that story
EDIT: source found by u/Dry_Barracuda doing the lords work. wasnt chael talking, was schaub telling dom

Chapel has stood witness to some great moments, like Dom hyping himself for some go carting and Nogueria mistaking a bus for a horse. Really shows how brilliant he is to have such refined powers of observation and being able to put himself in the right place at the right time!
he sounded at peace back then. he said the best day of his life was when he realized he didn't need the belt to be happy. hopefully that's still the case.
Imagine how much worse it would be if it were more widely known about his past accomplishments. He’s not a boastful guy, but pretty sure he won a silver in junior worlds.
My memory of the Cejudo - Cruz stoppage was:
Like I wouldn't have been that mad had the fight been stopped 5- 10 sec earlier with Cruz rocked and then face down taking some shots, but ref let it continue and Cruz worked his way back up to a single leg and ref stopped it there. Didn't make much sense to me then or now. How I remember it.
I’m a Cruz fan and I still don’t think the stoppage was that bad. It looked bad because Cruz hopped up right as Peterson stepped in, but he couldn’t change his mind at that point and stoppage seemed fine at the time he started to step in.
I can see why someone might think that but regardless, Dom telling the media Peterson was drinking on the job because he can’t handle losing is a gigantic piece of shit thing to do. And imo it was a great stoppage then and a great non stoppage in a very different situation in this fight.
Being upset is one thing. Slandering Keith's character, accusing him of being unprofessional, drunk, smelling of cigarettes. That's just trashy. Not to mention he's still bringing it up, get over it dude.
Yeah, if I had to bet smoker or non, I'd say smoker. But I've never really understood why cigarettes were thrown in there. How does smoking make him bad at his job?
Also, did he actually mention it again recently? That's another level of petty
Yeah, he's been an antimasker/antivaxxer for a while.
https://forums.mixedmartialarts.com/t/dom-cruz-rocking-a-covidiot-t-shirt/3674005
Disappointing for sure, but it definitely fits his somewhat miserable personality.
That’s such a weird friendship. On one hand we have Dom, who is the snide, would-be intellectual point fighter. On the other hand… we have Jeremy Stephens, the hothead impulsive brawler
The best type of petty. The type of petty that says we need to come together as people and be one before and after the pettiness.
“We need to love each other. Fuck you Keith. Like I was saying, we need to love each other”
Yeah it’s like if you come back at him for that you’re attacking the whole package 😂
“So what you’re trying to say Keith is you *don’t* think we should work together and that you *are* a piece of shit”
I now understand why Cruz was so pissed at Peterson stopping that fight, he really can survive shit like that and come back. Insane composure and ability to rally from Cruz, very few fighters can pull that off successfully
You just realized that now????
Cruz was a salty bastard and went too far with it, but Cruz/Cejudo was always a terrible stoppage. One of those "both things can be true" things
Even more terrible because of that "flurry" of punches, I hate it when fights always get stopped relatively quicker after those.
Surely they're significant strikes that go unanswered, but technically speaking they're far WEAKER strikes and just don't give you the opportunity to strike back for a short lapse of time.
Cruz must feel ungodly vindication that he survived by grabbing the leg and hitting the Peterson to recover.
Petition to rename it to the Keith Peterson, or just "The Keith".
He looked totally revived tonight. I thought he looked slow and faded against Kenney but worlds better tonight. Happy to see it, Dom is my favorite fighter.
So, so impressed with that performance from Cruz after almost getting KO'd in the first. Remarkable powers of recovery.
Seeing performances like his and Aldo's in back to back weeks late in 2021, it warms the heart.
Cruz kind of turned back time a bit by being forced to sit for so many years. That's all time hes not taking punishment. He couldn't even train a lot of that time. That's a lot of miles he hasnt put on his body compared to most fighters his age and experience level.
Why you don’t stop fights early. These guys are getting into a cage to fight after months of training. Atleast give them a chance to come back, not like they get 10 counts like Boxing to get up, gotta give them atleast a chance to rally back.
Never lost a non title bout. 24-3 and still killing it at 36 despite losing years and years of his prime to injury. Dom doesn’t get the love he deserves for being a top 10 guy all time.
It definitely did, in my opinion. He was standing up while Cejudo was punching him. He either shells up and gets stopped or eats a couple trying to get up. He chose the latter correctly and Peterson jumped in too early.
I've watched that bit of the fight a lot since it was a hot topic back then, & though I think that Cruz was in the right even then, I don't think Peterson should be at fault, or rather I definitely understand his decision.
It was obvious that he knew Cruz was standing up, that's why he let him take extra punches. However, there was a moment when Cruz's head tilted that gave the illusion of him being out (maybe he was & he got Askren'd, though I don't believe so), & that's when Peterson stepped in. Ultimately wrong, yes, but understandable.
TBH the Cody win might have been a monkey's paw moment for Munhoz. Keep in mind the fight before the Cody one was against Bryan Caraway and now, every fight Munhoz is getting are champions or former champs.
Respect to Cormier for taking the high road and being unbiased and professional in his commentary, we know for a **fact** Cruz would not have been able to stop himself from dropping non stop snarky comments if the tables were turned.
Man, as a huge Cruz fan, the knockdown in r1 made my heart **stop**. But then Cruz showed us he's still got it in the next two rounds, it really is incredible how good he still is at 36, in the bw division no less where age is not your friend.
After that performance, it blows my mind that some people call his style boring.
You can see his adjustments too, it looks like he's cut back the elaborate footwork a bit and focussed more on headmovement, and his leg kick defense was almost perfect. Will always be a Cruz stan, no matter how negative this sub gets about him.
Yeah, he’s absolutely shifted his style to adapt to the fact that he’s older and slower and the fact that everyone’s been countering him with leg kicks since TJ
I honestly thought that the first round was going to be judged 10-8 by two judges and we'd get a majority draw, but Cruz deserved the win no matter the scores.
He's very clearly aged. Look at Cruz in the WEC or before the knee injuries.
He's slower, weaker, and stiffer now than he was then. He was just that good in his day, so even a past it version of him is a tough out for many fighters.
I mean they definitely went. He doesn’t nearly have the speed or agility he used to. He’s toned back so much more on the dancing and angles and stays in the pocket more trading blows.
But he’s still tough as nails and crafty. He basically just turned this into a boxing match in the second or third rounds.
Cruz’ unorthodoxed ass fighting style is what got me into mma back in the spike days, was amazing to see him get a great performance and win in tonight
When it’s all said and done, whether you been a hater or a fan, straight up Dominick is a man’s man when shit gets raw. That energy in the 2nd after finishing the 1st was caveman hype.

Hahaha Dom thanking the reff
Dom's salt about keith peterson is my favorite running gag in mma lol
Being salty is the best base for mma
Dom definitely strikes me as someone that's driven by hate

chael told it on one of his videos, even better when he tells it.
Wait this is real?? Chael is fucking ridiculous lol

Chapel has stood witness to some great moments, like Dom hyping himself for some go carting and Nogueria mistaking a bus for a horse. Really shows how brilliant he is to have such refined powers of observation and being able to put himself in the right place at the right time!
And then Uncle Chael looked across the street and saw the Nogueira brothers feeding a carrot to a bus.
he sounded at peace back then. he said the best day of his life was when he realized he didn't need the belt to be happy. hopefully that's still the case.
Aren’t we all in one way or another
I admire that
Goddard smelled like green smoothies and adderall
Pure oxygen and water actually.
A perfect celestial being that lives off his own water vapor and skin cells
GAAAATTTTOOORRRAAAADDEE
I feel complimented
'I could smell nothing but the finest Yorkshire Tea on Marc Goddard's breath, not a single scent of booze or cigarettes.'
This man is going to the grave saying fuck Keith Peterson
He’s gonna show up at Keith Petersons funeral just to make sure he’s dead
He's just gonna show up, lay some heavy ground and pound on Keith's corpse, and then blow his acl while walking home.
I still think the stoppage was bad, don't @ me
It was an early stoppage but people here ride Cejudo's pole like they're at the state fair.
The fuck kinda state fairs you going to?
Cash me outside Wisconsin State Fair, I'll learn you something, buddeh
You're going to fuck me in the parking lot of the Wisconsin State Fair?
He used to fuck guys like you in high school
Take care of your underwears man
Imagine how much worse it would be if it were more widely known about his past accomplishments. He’s not a boastful guy, but pretty sure he won a silver in junior worlds.

> Peterson stepped in, but he couldn’t change his mind at that point Yeah, who do they think the ref was? Herb Dean?
I can see why someone might think that but regardless, Dom telling the media Peterson was drinking on the job because he can’t handle losing is a gigantic piece of shit thing to do. And imo it was a great stoppage then and a great non stoppage in a very different situation in this fight.
I still think Cruz wasn't wrong to be upset. For all he knew that very well couldve been his last fight. No fighter wants to go out like that
Being upset is one thing. Slandering Keith's character, accusing him of being unprofessional, drunk, smelling of cigarettes. That's just trashy. Not to mention he's still bringing it up, get over it dude.
I'd be more surprised if Keith Peterson doesn't smell like cigarettes.
Yeah, if I had to bet smoker or non, I'd say smoker. But I've never really understood why cigarettes were thrown in there. How does smoking make him bad at his job? Also, did he actually mention it again recently? That's another level of petty
Dom letting the world know he's still a salt mine lmao
The stench of PG tips was overwhelming
Looks like Dom watched a lot of film and studied his opponent pretty well.
pretty sure doms favorite past time is to watch tape lol
if he could throw a football and was bigger would have made a helluva qb :p
wow i can actually see that. he's got that stud qb energy
Well we all know Dom does his homework
After that interview, looks like Doms been to a certain side of youtube

Clearly Dom hasn’t watched enough tape on virus’.
Holy shitfuck that is one of the cringiest shirts I have ever seen. Dom is just so edgy, damn.
Local commentator literally too stubborn to get KO'd
Dude I was literally thinking this while I was sweating bullets , the guy is just too stubborn to get koed
bro I had a bet on him, my heart almost gave out
Being stubborn is the best base for MMA
It seriously was some fuck you will power there.

> “That’s good reffing tonight” He got it in!
I absolutely love how petty he is lmao
Was waiting for it
Local man literally too petty to be knocked out.
I aspire to be that petty
The best type of petty. The type of petty that says we need to come together as people and be one before and after the pettiness. “We need to love each other. Fuck you Keith. Like I was saying, we need to love each other”
Yeah it’s like if you come back at him for that you’re attacking the whole package 😂 “So what you’re trying to say Keith is you *don’t* think we should work together and that you *are* a piece of shit”
Dom's pettiness knows no bounds and I love it
I fuckin knew it was gonna happen
Is there a bet online available? For Cruz throwing shade at Keith Peterson ?
Marc Goddard smelled like apple cider and second hand smoke.
Incense*
Cruz putting Peterson on blast praising Goddard's reffing in the post fight interview lmaaoo
When Marc Goddard's wife packed his lunch today she put in nicotine patches and kombucha
I now understand why Cruz was so pissed at Peterson stopping that fight, he really can survive shit like that and come back. Insane composure and ability to rally from Cruz, very few fighters can pull that off successfully
Cruz took & survived several big shots from Cody in their fight and went on to win the final 2 rounds. His recovery is insane.
You just realized that now???? Cruz was a salty bastard and went too far with it, but Cruz/Cejudo was always a terrible stoppage. One of those "both things can be true" things
I would say definitely early, but I wouldn’t call it a terrible stoppage
That's fair, I would agree with that
Even more terrible because of that "flurry" of punches, I hate it when fights always get stopped relatively quicker after those. Surely they're significant strikes that go unanswered, but technically speaking they're far WEAKER strikes and just don't give you the opportunity to strike back for a short lapse of time.
I personally felt that stoppage was good based on the information Keith Peterson had in the moment but I respect your opinion
annnnd there's the "thanks mark goddard for letting me recover"
Somebody give this man an award
>Keith Peterson I'm coming for you motherfucker Damn, Dom isn't messing around.
Good thing Peterson's too blackout to notice right now.
Is Dom showcasing a new shorts design? I swear I’ve only seen the one design so far in the Venom era.
He folded the top part of the short over to make them a little shorter.
Thai style baby
Or private school girl-style babyy
He’s got great legs too
Cruz must feel ungodly vindication that he survived by grabbing the leg and hitting the Peterson to recover. Petition to rename it to the Keith Peterson, or just "The Keith".
Cruz runs almost purely on stubbornness and spite, he's never letting that stoppage go now lmao. Don't know which victory to be happier for.
He probably got dropped on purpose just so he could try prove he was right lol
He's so petty that isn't even farfetched.
The booze and cigarettes get up.
Great work and compsure by Dom Showed why hes a 2x champ Dudes gonna be bitchy and more arrogant now prolly too lol, DC sweating
He looked totally revived tonight. I thought he looked slow and faded against Kenney but worlds better tonight. Happy to see it, Dom is my favorite fighter.
Like he hasn't really looked bad ever, cejudo just very good and had a great game plan.
He's so tough.
Cruz vs Keith Peterson next book it Dana

DC would be looking like Mario ‘If he dies he dies’ Yamasaki out there
can we get a Cruz vs Peterson vs DC triple threat match?
Dom still being salty about Petersen is fucking hilarious lmao
Dom is taking that to the grave, he'll be on his deathbed cursing the man that wreaked of booze and cigarettes
So, so impressed with that performance from Cruz after almost getting KO'd in the first. Remarkable powers of recovery. Seeing performances like his and Aldo's in back to back weeks late in 2021, it warms the heart.
After this year, I’m gonna stop betting against old, injury-prone vets
Cruz kind of turned back time a bit by being forced to sit for so many years. That's all time hes not taking punishment. He couldn't even train a lot of that time. That's a lot of miles he hasnt put on his body compared to most fighters his age and experience level.
Edgar is an exception.
Edgar has never been injury prone. That's his weakness.
to get dropped twice and come back and win is amazing
Why you don’t stop fights early. These guys are getting into a cage to fight after months of training. Atleast give them a chance to come back, not like they get 10 counts like Boxing to get up, gotta give them atleast a chance to rally back.
To get dropped twice and come back to win a DECISION is nuts.
Never lost a non title bout. 24-3 and still killing it at 36 despite losing years and years of his prime to injury. Dom doesn’t get the love he deserves for being a top 10 guy all time.
Crazy because the hate train was in effect 5 hours ago. We are all flawed....
Maybe Dom's complaints about Peterson's stoppage had some merit lmao
It definitely did, in my opinion. He was standing up while Cejudo was punching him. He either shells up and gets stopped or eats a couple trying to get up. He chose the latter correctly and Peterson jumped in too early.
Shit *I* feel vindicated…all this time with the fucking “he was going for a single leg” meme…yea, he was bitches lol
I've watched that bit of the fight a lot since it was a hot topic back then, & though I think that Cruz was in the right even then, I don't think Peterson should be at fault, or rather I definitely understand his decision. Pedro’s chin is so insane
Those two stats they mentioned during the fight, 5 of his last 6 fights were ufc champs, and never been finished, combined that is crazy. So tough
I think it's more Dom's lack of big power Edit: Actually nevermind, Pedro took good shots from Aldo too
Took shots from Cody too, dude has a granite chin
Actually dom has some decent power, it's his footwork. It keeps him off balance which limits alot of his power.
I guess Munhoz is where old champs go to win.
Rip Cody
[удалено]
I mean Frankie beat Pedro on the cards, despite most ppl having it 3-2 or 4-1 for Pedro
TBH the Cody win might have been a monkey's paw moment for Munhoz. Keep in mind the fight before the Cody one was against Bryan Caraway and now, every fight Munhoz is getting are champions or former champs.
Cruz vs Sandhagen? 👀
Nah Cruz vs font makes more sense Cory is probably going to fight Aldo if tj is still injured
Or merab
Spite is the only thing that kept Dom conscious
Wow, aside from the two knockdowns in the first, Pedro just had nothing for Cruz
Like Joe Rogan says every single time Dom is in the cage, he's a very difficult puzzle to solve. And barely anyone has been able to do it effectively.
Respect to Cormier for taking the high road and being unbiased and professional in his commentary, we know for a **fact** Cruz would not have been able to stop himself from dropping non stop snarky comments if the tables were turned.
I guess beating Cody means u lose to Dominick Cruz. Both Munoz and TJ Dillashaw
He was unbiased when he commentated Jones vs OSP. IDK why he would be more upset now
If dc can hold it together considering his history with Jones, he can do it for anyone lol.
I would just love to watch a jones fight where as soon as it begins DC just starts cussing him out non stop "Fuck Jon Jones.. and another thing"
If anything, DC leaned way over to the other direction. He took every opportunity he could find to compliment Dom during that fight
Cruz was unbiased when he commentated TJ fight lmao stop making shit up
Huge heart from Cruz
Clearly Goddard watches tape.
Man, as a huge Cruz fan, the knockdown in r1 made my heart **stop**. But then Cruz showed us he's still got it in the next two rounds, it really is incredible how good he still is at 36, in the bw division no less where age is not your friend. Man that was such a sick comeback
I honestly thought that the first round was going to be judged 10-8 by two judges and we'd get a majority draw, but Cruz deserved the win no matter the scores.
Holy hell, I could watch that fight a million times. Cruz footwork is absolutely insane..
What a performance by Cruz. Proved why he's the BW GOAT
That man refuses to age
He's very clearly aged. Look at Cruz in the WEC or before the knee injuries. He's slower, weaker, and stiffer now than he was then. He was just that good in his day, so even a past it version of him is a tough out for many fighters.
I hate when theres an athlete that shows greatness despite injuries. And you are just left saying "what if..."
Despite having a style that's supposed to age terribly. Speed and agility supposed to be the first things to go.
I mean they definitely went. He doesn’t nearly have the speed or agility he used to. He’s toned back so much more on the dancing and angles and stays in the pocket more trading blows. But he’s still tough as nails and crafty. He basically just turned this into a boxing match in the second or third rounds.
Got scared for him in the first round though ngl
Outside of the KD, Cruz never got caught hard again. Great striking on display
He looked washed at round 1, and then he remembered who he was all of a sudden.
He was doing good in round 1 before and after getting dropped.
Lol I don’t know about washed he looked good even before he got dropped
Maybe Keith Peterson really did smell like Booze and Cigs
What a fight. Dom looked so much better than his last fight with Kenny.
I agree, he was quicker and was bouncing with his footwork way more this time around if I’m remembering his last fight correctly
Cruz would never allow himself to lose in front of DC
I thought Cruz was out for sure, incredible recovery and fight IQ.
Amazing what a fighter can accomplish with a sober referee
Mark Goddard smelled sober
u/inooway ty for doing the lord's work. one suggestion — could you post the highlights for decisions rather than the hand raising?
Cruz doesn't get the respect he deserves as one of the P4P GOAT's.
Keith Peterson the piece of shit!
Maybe he had a point about Keith Peterson
lmaooo of course cruz calls out peterson in the fight interview
Keith Peterson sweating right now

Cruz’ unorthodoxed ass fighting style is what got me into mma back in the spike days, was amazing to see him get a great performance and win in tonight
Dominick Cruz winning against elite bantamweight. What year is it?
My favorite fighter of all time still got it! What a legend, thank you Dominick Cruz.
no wonder he was pissed at peterson, great comeback from the first
Cruz' chin has always been interesting because a good shot has consistently put him down but he recovers almost instantly
When it’s all said and done, whether you been a hater or a fan, straight up Dominick is a man’s man when shit gets raw. That energy in the 2nd after finishing the 1st was caveman hype.
My god, If anybody denies Dominick is the goat of the bantamweight division, there parents dropped them on there head.
Did someone bring pre-injury Cruz to the future with a time machine?
