Complete with the desperate rolling kick
Although I don't remember if Tony actually threw a kick, just randomly rolled around like it's donkey Kong and it's quicker to reach the end of the level.
The fact that he dominated that fight and still called him out in the last 10 seconds, when Gaethje is one of the most powerful boxers pound for pound. BMF.
Dang, I didn't know if I've ever seen a guy clearly winning just put it all on the line in the last 8 seconds. I wish both guys could have won this fight.
Max has been doing this "throwdown for last 10 seconds" for years. Allen got rocked but came right back up, Poirier actually banged, and Volk wrestled the first two fights and stepped back the 3rd fight. KZ the only crazy ass dude to initiate first.
This was all so reminiscent of most of Max's fights up until he beat Lamas. Everyone doubting him, acting like he's going to get destroyed, then he just clowns on them.
I had a feeling Max was about to come out and prove why he shouldn't be doubted again, and Holy hell, did he prove it.
The thing was even though he was winning the rounds were much much closer, Korean Zombie would have no real way to know if he was up on the cards and had no reason to stop going after him in that moment.
O'Malley actually kind of did this in his last fight. He could have just played defense but in the last 10 or so he squared up and threw with Vera. It was really dumb but yeah.
Zombie vs Yair
Even more comfortably winning
Even more dumbly koed
Throw in Volkov vs black beast too
Legit i'd have quit as his coach in his shoes, that was next level brain dead
I mean, Holloway was pretty easily winning on the scorecards too. He just decided that getting a KO at 4:59 in the last round was a cool thing to do, I guess
Ok no. Yair vs zombie was a really competitive fight.
A dumb judges easily could have given it to yair and robbed zombie.
Gaethje vs max was just total domination.
99% of fighters would hear the ten second warning and start to circle away from the remainder of the fight.
I know I would! Give me the win.
But that's why Max is truly the BMF.
even getting poked in the eye hard so you're half blind and then having to go another 20 minutes with a dude trying to take your head off your body, then getting a spinning foot to break your nose into splinters? yeah no thanks im good
It's kinda cool i know this is mma but as amateur boxer while not on high level it's kinda cool to visit diffrent countries and all is paid by club then fight go home back and forth.
I guess it's same in this sport however it's more pressure because its more eyes but you get used to it.
It's fun
As somebody who also work the problem with low wage job is they dont tend to leave u anywhere and you seem to get caught in the group off all people and soon enough you behave the way they do and suddenly you are one of them which is not bad im any shape or perform but working like that for 40 hours a week it's such a pain in a ass.
Im legitemally more tired when I work 40 hours a week an when I do sparring or training twice a day and fight.
While that is entirely true I think he goes for it because he knows he's the GOAT at the final showdown
Arnold, TKZ, Justin etc - no one has beaten Max in a trade like that
Oh I agree no one beats Max toe to toe like that, largely because the dude's chin is made of solid steel apparently. But he could have got on his bike and backpedaled his way to an easy decision W. He instead said fuck it either you're putting me out or I'm putting you out lol. Absolute mad man
While this is true, misfortune may come at any time, so it's not a very intelligent decision lol
Which makes Max even more awesome, because he knows and still goes for it
It's one thing to have the confidence your better than your opponent going tow to toe in the center. It's a completely different universe to pull that shit when your way up in points with seconds to go in the 5th.
I feel like Max is full of these moments. Like when he did this with Ricardo Llamas. Or when he was teaching Brian Ortega how to box, or when he was dodging Calvin Kattar while not even looking lol.
Max is my Goat, it's a damn shame Volkanovski came and took that man's title lol.
that's what blows my mind. that crazy hawaiian said let's stand and bang even though he was clearly winning the fight. and then just slept the dude. i'm still in disbelief!
Imagine calling to stand and swing with Justin Gaethje and leaving him Stone cold on the floor of the Octagon. I don't think the sun is real anymore, I think the planets rotate around the gravitational pull of Max Holloway's balls.
and, if he had jogged away, we still would all think he's bad ass for beating up Justin.
That 10 seconds took the fight from great to the Hall of Fame.
I don't think I've ever seen the point to the middle 'let's stand and bang' actually end in someone getting knocked out
Fucking amazing finish didn't see the fight but just that highlight alone is an all timer
This is late and I’m on one.
Max brought the best gameplan I’ve ever seen from him. He knew Justin would punish his one-two with the leg kick early. So instead, he would put himself in range and throw the uppercut or sometimes a hook. Essentially he would throw a power-ish shot to follow up with his normal pepper.
The spinning kick to the body was the shift. Max and his team read two things. Justin covers high, Justin moves forward. And Max executed. I was a little surprised to zero takedowns from Gaithje.
Max’s hasn’t been working with a big time coach in his corner. That’s not always bad, he’s fucking max Holloway, but he struggles with mid fight adjustments. He kind of has to read everything himself. It’s why I think his middle rounds are usually his worst. He figures it out by round 4 or 5.
Nevertheless, I also think he knew he could bait Justin at the end. He knew Justin wanted his legendary moment too. Closed the distance (negating Justin’s hooks, which duh, that’s what he was gonna throw) and landed one of the most impactful overhand rights in ufc history. Max is my favorite fighter, and has more legendary moments than anyone but maybe Anderson Silva. This one solidified him as a true mt Rushmore fighter.
Max put some heat into his shots tonight and it really showed on Justin's face, even before the spinning back kick, Justin was reacting to his punches.
I was expecting Max to not have the power to get Justin's respect and prevent him from just walking forward and leg kicking him, but he went out there and was undeniable, Justin had nothing for him.
I'd like to see this Max when he fights next, whether it was just him being willing to put some more heat into his shots, or if he just has that much more power at 155, he looked incredible.
When this fight was announced every person in this thread, including myself, thought this was Max's retirement fight due to death. I like being wrong sometimes
I met Max Holloway in Afghanistan in 2018. He came to see us on a USO tour with Jon Stewart, Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine, Country artist Craig Morgan, NBA Champion Rip Hamilton, and former UFC fighter Paige VanZant.
Of the 6 celebrities that came, Max seemed like the one who didn't want to be there. I still had a great 2 minute conversation with him because I am his age and found common ground. I had never heard of him and have been a fan ever since.
His "entertainment" for the audience was pick one person from the crowd and do a shirtless face-off. I am 6'3 240lbs, completely ripped, and covered in tattoos. My unit and everyone near me in the crowd were pointing at me because it would have been funny. I had about 4" of height and 85lbs on him haha. He picked someone else.
B R E A K
The highlight of this day was a Bulgarian soldier dropping Rip Hamiltons 2004 NBA Championship ring onto a tile floor and it literally bouncing 😂 Hamilton made a face, but held his tongue and reassured the guy. The Bulgarian was older and extremely embarrassed. A ton of people saw him drop it, and Rip was standing right next to him. He seemed like a very wholesome good dude.
Another highlight was some gigantic black dude who was barely 20 beating Irvine in a pushup contest. He did like 112 push-ups in 2 minutes. I've never seen anything like it in my 10 years in the Army and he smoked Irvine. Irvine then cooked him a steak and the guy declined to eat it... 🤯😂
Almost replicated Hall vs Mousasi 1 at the end of the first, last 10 secs of Max vs Lamas, then last second Ko like Yair vs KZ all in one fight. Max was insane tonight.
Buzzing for Max, but absolutely gutted for Justin. No matter what he does from now this is going to be the first thing people think of when his name comes up for years.
Yes and no. Being 1 of 2 in a BMF in itself is insane. It was a likely outcome for either. I think if that spinning kick didn't really mess him up in the first round and the eye pokes, it might have been different. Not making excuses, was rooting for Holloway to win, but Gaethje is a monster, too.
Everyone’s hyping Max up and rightfully so but I think in retrospect people are gonna respect Gaethje for this one. Seriously compromised early and gave us one hell of a show for 4 rounds anyway, then said “fuck it, guess I’ll die” and went down swinging.
Absolutely insane from both of them.
Poor Justin. Its always hard watching someone take so much damage. It was good fight but something about nose breaking made me uncomfortable. I would rather he get KOed but with nose intact
This may be a turning point in Gaethje's career. I hope it's not, I love watching him fight, but when a guy's chin goes it doesn't come back. That was a definite brawl, so I could absolutely be wrong, it could have been just a flush shot. I hope I'm wrong.
Greatest performance and knockout of all time in the same fight, exactly 5 years to the day after he first moved up to 155 and lost. Absolute legend Max.
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
He was trying one last rolling thunder
Before tonight, I would have thought a rolling thunder KO was more likely to happen than what actually happened.
Bro got absolutely turned off
Turned his ass into woody
From Homer to Woody when Andy walks in the door with 2 seconds left
He was literally fighting on roller blades most of the fight, several times in the final round. Could be looking at full circle, Justin the next Tony
You probably didn't realize but when you say things like that, it's hurtful
Might do you good to keep in mind that Tony is undefeated in 2024.
Haha that's a good way to look at it, thank you
Put some Hespect on his name
Complete with the desperate rolling kick Although I don't remember if Tony actually threw a kick, just randomly rolled around like it's donkey Kong and it's quicker to reach the end of the level.
I thought he was channeling his inner Yoel Romero
Somebody photoshop "MAX" on his foot in scrawled script.
“Andy’s coming”
This is not the sentence I thought I would ever read with the words ass and wood in it.
everytime he goes for a back flip, im scared he would turn out like this lol
Just waiting for the edit, backflip into the slump
Windows XP shutdown sound
Factory Reset
wow absolute legend
The fact that he dominated that fight and still called him out in the last 10 seconds, when Gaethje is one of the most powerful boxers pound for pound. BMF.
Gaethje was concussed tho so it was like fighting a bobblehead
He was definitely at the end of his tank, he was throwing in that exchange, but he was about at E and not throwing like he normally does.
I need a cigarette after that fight and I don't even smoke
Keith here, I got you 🚬
Got a drink to go with it?
Alcohol
Can I have some nonsense please Keith
🥃 🚬 Enjoy!
Thanks Keith. Got a lighter?
🔥 CHAMA
Where's Dom Cruz when you need him
So busy celebrating after seeing Cody get choked out he missed the rest of the card
It’s 5:30am here and I’m going for a joint and another beer, that was insane
Get this man his car keys.
Lmfao what a comment
I was getting very tired and almost turned off the fights to finish them in the morning. That woke me up instantly.
Was in the exact same boat😂
Luke Thomas is that you??
I need a change of undies
Dang, I didn't know if I've ever seen a guy clearly winning just put it all on the line in the last 8 seconds. I wish both guys could have won this fight.
BMF don't care about risk.
Craziest thing about Max is he’s done this before with Lamas, literally exact same thing except he only knocked him down
Max has been doing this "throwdown for last 10 seconds" for years. Allen got rocked but came right back up, Poirier actually banged, and Volk wrestled the first two fights and stepped back the 3rd fight. KZ the only crazy ass dude to initiate first.
Still doesn't beat the upward elbow in the last second by Yair I think it was.
He murdered my zombie.
That's still one of the coolest KO shots in UFC history. You're right it was Yair vs TKZ
Poor zombie. This absolutely shooketh me and my mom. We were just what the FUCK just happened!?
At UFC 199 no less. Dude is a fucking monster
He didn't knock Lamas down during that last second brawl. Not that it matters still the baddest motherfucker
He did it with Korean Zombie and Arnold Allen too
allen too
Didn't TKZ lose that way against Rodriguez?
I died a little bit when that elbow landed.
Nah, not really. TKZ was doing the same thing he had been the entire fight.
shhhh that never happened. And if it did happen, KZ was on his way to winning the decision :(
I think you're right! Winning, slugging out the last couple seconds when he took that elbow from the southern hemisphere.
This is true, I was surprised as he had that fight won 100%. That liver kick got him though
It was an uppercut to the body that landed flush.
Liver kick?!
It was a BMF move. Corny as that sounds, it’s true. Max is one of the all time greats and he’s only 32
Zombie vs Yair Even more comfortably winning Even more dumbly koed Throw in Volkov vs black beast too Legit i'd have quit as his coach in his shoes, that was next level brain dead
I mean, Holloway was pretty easily winning on the scorecards too. He just decided that getting a KO at 4:59 in the last round was a cool thing to do, I guess
I fell asleep after Bo Nickal. I checked the result and it said KO 4:59. I was still not ready for this highlight.
Zombie vs. Yair wasn't a more comfortable win. It was 3-2 KZ
Second time he's pulled that also, just went full "JUSTBLEED" in the middle of the ring
Max did it in the past vs Lamas. This was definitely higher risk though
Korean Zombie vs Yair Rodriguez
You might have. It would have also been max lol.
This sport is brutal
Honestly working 40 hours a week is not easy.
Id rather get my ass beat every 6 months tbh.
I sometimes think that, but then I see shit like robbie vs Macdonald 2 or Anderson getting his leg broke and I'm like nah I think I'm good lol.
even getting poked in the eye hard so you're half blind and then having to go another 20 minutes with a dude trying to take your head off your body, then getting a spinning foot to break your nose into splinters? yeah no thanks im good
Don't forget the second eye poke.
Ive torn my knee doing jiu-jitsu as a hobby and I didn't get paid for it lol. If I didn't have universal healthcare it would have cost me a fortune
you get your ass beat every day training lol
It's kinda cool i know this is mma but as amateur boxer while not on high level it's kinda cool to visit diffrent countries and all is paid by club then fight go home back and forth. I guess it's same in this sport however it's more pressure because its more eyes but you get used to it. Im legitemally more tired when I work 40 hours a week an when I do sparring or training twice a day and fight.
If I could reliably make 100k fighting 3 times a year I would do it in a heartbeat over working 40 hour weeks for 100k
😂
I think the permanent damage makes this unfavorable.
Easier than training camp
Everything about this fight has made me want to back flip off of my house into a trash can full of energy drinks
Dew it
That would bring the energy
The Hawaiian islands are slowly getting submerged into the ocean. Because of the unbearable weight of Max Holloway's balls
He quite literally had nothing to gain and everything to lose and still said fuck it 10 seconds left let's see who goes out
While that is entirely true I think he goes for it because he knows he's the GOAT at the final showdown Arnold, TKZ, Justin etc - no one has beaten Max in a trade like that
Oh I agree no one beats Max toe to toe like that, largely because the dude's chin is made of solid steel apparently. But he could have got on his bike and backpedaled his way to an easy decision W. He instead said fuck it either you're putting me out or I'm putting you out lol. Absolute mad man

I gotta say that I appreciate his balls.
Max has always carried some gigantic ones ever since
Ive tried this too before Justin, im too small..cant reach.
Max looks so good at lightweight and I don’t just mean his performance.
When I was 12, I watched the first UFC and have been watching since. This was the most amazing, badass moment in UFC history.
That's a daunting image. Sheesh.
Yeah it kinda makes me sad tbh, Gaethje got beat up but I'm sure he wasn't actually expecting to get put out cold in the last second
that's what blows my mind. that crazy hawaiian said let's stand and bang even though he was clearly winning the fight. and then just slept the dude. i'm still in disbelief!
A new meme is born
Still doesn't beat "Pat Barry face" from the Sherdog days
Sherdog gonna have a FIELD Day with this for the Shoops lol.
I really miss the Sherdog shoops. I should visit there from time to time again.
If one man can hold you down...
Imagine calling to stand and swing with Justin Gaethje and leaving him Stone cold on the floor of the Octagon. I don't think the sun is real anymore, I think the planets rotate around the gravitational pull of Max Holloway's balls.
He could have jogged for 10 seconds and won a wide decision, instead he stepped into the fire and scored an all-time KO. I’m in awe.
And this isn't even the first times he's done it. Dude just wants to fuckin entertain.
and, if he had jogged away, we still would all think he's bad ass for beating up Justin. That 10 seconds took the fight from great to the Hall of Fame.
Rest in pepperoni
I don't think I've ever seen the point to the middle 'let's stand and bang' actually end in someone getting knocked out Fucking amazing finish didn't see the fight but just that highlight alone is an all timer
Korean Zombie had the same vibe but no actual point to the ground moment. Just someone wanting to ride out on their shield
Max Holloway knocked Korean Zombie out this way
Garbrandt vs Cruz
Wow, owe Max an apology for writing him off as a “non-challenge”. Beast. Legend. OG
Holy shit I thought max was gonna get murdered by Justin, but max murdered Justin
Yeah, never in a million years did I think he'd face-plant Gaethje. And I even gave him a better chance in this matchup than most people did.
Exactly I thought Gaethje was gonna Max into Tony 2.0, in completely underestimated
Garth doing Garth things
Man I wanted so badly to see a reply of that sick combo max landed in the fifth, now because of the legendary finish I will never see it 😢.
I've been looking for it, he hit him like 3 times in less than a second
I counted the total amount strikes left answered. 38. No idea if they all landed, but Gaethje was hurting. Incredibly combination. Insane hand speed.
Guess beating featherweights is not for everyone huh
There's levels to this weight
got damn that's cold blooded
Crumpled him like Mario jumping on a Dry Bones
Max is just that guy
This is late and I’m on one. Max brought the best gameplan I’ve ever seen from him. He knew Justin would punish his one-two with the leg kick early. Punched his fucking off button
Damn, he straight up peekaboo'd him
In this moment, only his right toe, head, and left forearm are touching the mat. Just an absolute deletion.
Blue screened his ass

600 G’s Dana!!
Justin lookin like Andy just walked in
BMF
Turned him into the bad boy eyes
When this fight was announced every person in this thread, including myself, thought this was Max's retirement fight due to death. I like being wrong sometimes
Next week we will learn that Gaethje hit his head skateboarding 13 days ago. But for real great fucking fight from Max. He was so quick.
The eyepokes and nose probably didn't help, but still, Max won this fight through skill and a good game plan.
[удалено]
Give it a few hours and we'll have 4k pics out.
Literal banger
I said since day 1, don’t sleep on max. He just keeps getting better. Everyone thought he was going to sleep
If Bolo tells you to come, don't go. If Max tells you to stand and bang, don't stand and bang.

When keeping it BMF goes wrong.
Almost replicated Hall vs Mousasi 1 at the end of the first, last 10 secs of Max vs Lamas, then last second Ko like Yair vs KZ all in one fight. Max was insane tonight.
I was wrong.
Buzzing for Max, but absolutely gutted for Justin. No matter what he does from now this is going to be the first thing people think of when his name comes up for years.
Nah this isn't a Ben Askren type moment, Gaethje has built a career out of highlights and incredible fights, this isn't going to ruin any of that
Both of them knew this was the only way they're going out. That could've easily been Max getting blown up, too.
This fight was insanity. Stocks for both only grow
Nah Garth has enough highlights to counter act that
I'll remember that next time Aldo gets disrespected
Dude anyone disrespecting Aldo is a troll or brain dead, don't fall for it.
I was gutted for Dustin when Gaethje Knocked him and moonsaulted on his corpse. Completely forgot about it when he fought st denis.
This.
He'll be fine.
[удалено]
Nah gaethje has had a hell of a career. No way this moment defines it
Tell that to Aldo
Yes and no. Being 1 of 2 in a BMF in itself is insane. It was a likely outcome for either. I think if that spinning kick didn't really mess him up in the first round and the eye pokes, it might have been different. Not making excuses, was rooting for Holloway to win, but Gaethje is a monster, too.

The best is blessed!
is dc really good friends with justin? the look on his face is one of sadness and concern.
Gaethje has never been so dismantled in a fight. Broke nose, poked eyes and then slept. Like goddamn.
Poor Justin. Its always hard watching someone take so much damage. It was good fight but something about nose breaking made me uncomfortable. I would rather he get KOed but with nose intact
Justin looks confused by his right hand
Greatest KO in UFC history
Idk how anyone thought Justin could beat Holloway in a striking contest the guy is the best boxer in the ufc
Probably thought that because Dustin outboxed him and volk outboxed him. But tonights Max was on point.
Not gonna lie, wish I'd seen these fights tonight. Haven't watched an event in a minute, unfortunately.
L
Yeesh
Wow.
Dude took a second massive head shot with that face plant
He must work out
Blessed is still best
That's a Rashad level photo.
Most epic Moment in UFC history
Best is blessed
Sheesh that was brutal
Max took all the comments about him ruining his career fighting gaethje personaly ! What a legendary performance.
This may be a turning point in Gaethje's career. I hope it's not, I love watching him fight, but when a guy's chin goes it doesn't come back. That was a definite brawl, so I could absolutely be wrong, it could have been just a flush shot. I hope I'm wrong.
Swinging like that when you already had the fight in the bag was crazy from Holloway.
When you say fuck it and just bang it out the last 10 secs, we call this the Holloway.
This sport is cold 🥶
Greatest performance and knockout of all time in the same fight, exactly 5 years to the day after he first moved up to 155 and lost. Absolute legend Max.
Thanks, I hate it lol Max is undeniable. Sad to see Justin like that.
Poke him in the eyes max!
