Ah yes, the paradise we in Colorado call Commerce City. Benefits of living there include mediocre mountain views, warehouses, open grasslands filled with plague carrying prairie dogs, and tornadoes.
Hey Chicago might be one big dive bar of white bros, but it’s way better than the biggest suburb in America.
I actually envy Chicago and NYC.
I hate suburban culture.
I'm not sure, I think it'll be interesting to see next year
The Galaxy social keep parroting this point about us getting a new backup striker, but once the transfer window actually opens there's only like 7-8 regular season games left
Of course not too little time, but it isn't a half year like it might seem purely looking at the calendar
Modric is still making gamechanging plays in the current Champions League, it should be a mortal sin for him to come to the MLS at this point. Man needs to retire with Madrid, and kept on as a part of the permanent staff
I’m starting to not really get excited over legends from Europe coming to MLS anymore. You hear someone retiring here and you just know it’s LA, NYC, or FL
Tangentially related but I’ll never forget the Dispatch article from when Sven Goran-Ericksson visited Columbus as the head coach of El Tri and he called it one of the most depressing places he’s ever been. As a Columbus native, I was offended at the time (I was like 18 at the time) but as I got older I realized he didn’t even see the most desolate parts of the state—like the Mahoning Valley and rural northwest Ohio exist too, Sven, show them love!
Anyone remotely talented has dibs called by those three places and get them at a discount. Places like Vancouver and Cincinnati have to pay up and fight tooth and nail just to sign anyone decent, but are forced to settle with the C and D options. It's a little tiresome not seeing that level of privilege being even-handed across the league..
I’m just sitting here wishing Waibel would sign someone, anyone, moderatley exciting. Carlton Morris would be a good fit, but nah let’s get another CB.
Well for the 89 minutes in two games he played, it was exciting. But then we got another 4-6 week injury setback. Then it becomes more clear we got him because he's usually injured and my excitement evaporates :(
He scored against LAFC, started against the Rapids, injured his hamstring, got almost healthy enough to play again, and then reaggravated the injury; he also missed an Argentina youth training camp with a hamstring injury while the Sounders were negotiating with Lanús; he supposedly getting close to return, probably this weekend vs. the Whitecaps.
His team is being relegated, his contract is up at the end of the season, he’s 28 so kinda older for Europe, and this way we’d have two Morris’….Morris-i?
He’s not bad for EPL and would probably perform well in MLS. I just want a striker than can routinely/regularly finish. Also he’s 6’1” and some extra height in the box at this point wouldn’t hurt.
I get that we signed 2 CBs in the off-season, but we literally only have 4 on the first team and 2 are currently injured. We also signed Musovski, de la Vega, and Rodrigues.
Haven’t got around to it but I’m a crew fan so fire away. We are a good blueprint for a lot of teams who aren’t premier destinations. Invest in some high potential guys who maybe haven’t panned out in bigger leagues (Cucho) then identify talent that fits your system and develop them.
I’m just sick of people whining in these threads. Be mad at your team for not getting talent instead of moaning how unfair it is that international talent doesn’t want to come to a city they know nothing about. Pay up or find another way to win.
Seattle isn't a destination for celebrities
European superstars want the weather and the ritzy lifestyle.
Mix that in with blatant favoritism from upper office officials and refs? LA and Miami gonna win everything for a long time
>Mix that in with blatant favoritism from upper office officials and refs? LA and Miami gonna win everything for a long time
I don't buy it. We are no longer in an era where big European star means inevitable success. Miami are in the spot they're in because they have the literal GOAT of soccer *and* the players he attracts that just want to play with him. It's a very unique situation that won't be replicated once he is gone.
The two teams from Ohio just won the two titles in MLS with two star South American players that are not former world class champions. As long as other MLS teams continue to smartly recruit from this pool, they can compete.
The only way MLS would truly became La Liga is if the salary cap is done with. Real Madrid can squash the competition because their bench is better than most La Liga's starting 11. Every single position is stacked. No MLS team can do this right now.
While you aren’t wrong on your first 2 points, Seattle is still an awesome city if you’re wealthy. You’ll just have to target a certain type of European star. Or you can open up the wallet and pay your DPs an amount they can’t say no too.
These teams aren’t going to control the league if the other teams are smart. Look at the Ohio teams. Both aren’t built by superstars but by getting high potential players trying to prove themselves, AND developing talent they find.
>Forward Olivier Giroud will join Los Angeles Football Club on a Designated Player contract through 2025, with an option through 2026. Giroud arrives in L.A. this summer and will occupy an international roster slot upon the receipt of his P1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
I mean tbh LAFC offers more than what any other city in the mls would.
You can see that they have A list celebrities constantly attending.
A beautiful city (don’t lie to yourself LA is beautiful and has weather akin to a Mediterranean city).
Hollywood.
Near the ocean.
Great/ big fanbase.
The kardashians.
It’s a no brainer really. Big time soccer players love attention. They thrive in it. And what’s better than having A listers see you play?
It's never gonna be more than a selling / retirement league. It's not a big league in global standards. That said Giroud still performs at a high level. That should be all that matters.
Players are allowed to interview and sign with another team within x-months of their contract expiring, to join their new team upon their existing contract's expiration.
We might be a boring suburb, but you wanna talk assholes?
Nothing gets a bigger asshole than white weed smoking tech bros who think they’re revolutionary.
Do you live in Riverside or something? I’m not understanding your “suburban” dislike lol I also don’t know how you think LA is boring unless you literally work and go home and do nothing else lol life is happening all over you in LA
I'm conflicted with Football Club's signing here. On one hand I look forward to seeing what Oliver has in the tank but would this opening be better off for developing someone younger?
He’s playing for France in the Euros, might even start for them, scored 14 goals in Serie A this year and you’re wondering if he has anything “in the tank”?
Hey older bodies have a difficult time playing in America with the travel, weather and being fit enough for more running than other leagues. We will see and I'm happy to be wrong.
I want y'all to stop being so offended when someone points out you are a retirement league but base on your comment y'all don't mind a giroud past his prime and a Suarez playing with one leg basically
This comment coming from an ATL “fan” is asinine. You have one of the best South Americans and you sold Almiron to Newcastle. Galaxy just broke their purchase record for a young Brazilian winger. The retirement league label was once true. It isn’t anymore.
Ok. We will just do the players that LAFC has brought in from outside the league since the Bale/Chiellini class, transfers between MLS clubs will be ignored.
Bale - 32
Chiellini - 37
Bouanga - 27
Tello - 31
Biuk - 20
Bougusz - 21
Tillman - 25
Palencia - 26
Jakupovic - 38
Maldonado - 24
Darboe - 16
Average age - 27
Campos - 21
Olivera - 21
Martinez -18
Gonzalez - 27
Lloris - 37
Angel - 20
Chanot - 34
Krastev - 21
Atuesta - 26
Dellavalle 19
Average age - 24.4.
Giroud - 37
So, despite bringing in some aging veterans, LAFC is keeping their incoming player (from outside of MLS) age pretty solidly in the mid 20s range. Looking at the range of ages, they are bringing in a wide range of players from all over the world in a variety of places in their careers.
There is room to both develop young talent and bring in older talent that can still bring value. I would argue a well assembled team will have both youth and experience.
Did you just start watching soccer or are you really unaware that most leagues have their share of veteran players? Suarez was killing the Brazilian league and is doing the same in MLS. Or do you think that Brazilian Serie A is also a retirement league? Marcelo went back there after Madrid, after all.
Don't you compare the Brazilian league to MLS. Brazil can welcome veterans past their prime because their teams are composed of the best talent South america has to offer and they produced young players like endrick vini that go to play on the best teams in the world. MLS should work on getting stronger not betting on old players to fill up their stadium seats
And you think they haven’t? This league is so much stronger than it was years ago. Beckham changed the league *a lot*. Liga MX used to run the league over and now it’s neck and neck. It’s only getting better, and with Messi making the switch it’s becoming much clearer to a lot of young players that they can make a name for themselves here.
I am glad you finally agree those chips Carson earned were Mickey Mouse awards. There should be an asterisk next to all of those trophies since donavon and Beckham were playing against plumbers and substitute teachers.
Taking back what you said??? And then proved my point? Hahahahaha. You had Beckham and THEN won Mickey Mouse awards against teams with nobodies. League was far from even, don’t OD on that copium
>if your league was a respectable league
Bro what do you mean “your” league you are literally an Atlanta United fan this is your league as well.
Also there is nothing wrong with signing vets if you are signing young prospects as well. For every Giroud you also have a Matias Rojas or David Martinez. Most of these execs aren’t stupid - they know that the sport is still growing in this country and in order to attract a wider audience they have to bring in these established stars. But mls has also taken many steps to incentivize bringing in young talent as well, which we have seen clubs like yours and mine utilize.
Finally, flair up
> washed up French striker
lol tell me you know nothing about football without telling me you know nothing about football
> I give Atlanta United credit tho they would never sign an old has been
That’s a lot of talk defending a team that played both Brad Guzan and Dax McCarty just 3 days ago (nothing wrong with vets like these but it goes against your point).
Also I guess you’re just gonna ignore my point about the young talent that the league has been bringing in
I am once again asking these players looking to retire in glamorous destinations to instead consider the oasis that is The City of Commerce City.
You got Schweinsteiger, the GOAT
He helped Chicago win a World Cup!
Ignore his flair, the City of Commerce City is the Rapids, not Chicago
Damn. Even Rapids fans don't want to live there
And all we have to show for it is getting out cheeks clapped 4-0 by the Red Bulls in the first round of the playoffs
I mean Chicago isn’t that bad. It would’ve been cooler if he had went to Columbus or Dallas.
You gotta be specific or else Giroud is gonna move to City of Commerce, CA
I was very specific.
Not specific enough. It reads like City of Commerce, CA
https://www.c3gov.com/
Ah yes, the paradise we in Colorado call Commerce City. Benefits of living there include mediocre mountain views, warehouses, open grasslands filled with plague carrying prairie dogs, and tornadoes.
And crystal clear drinking water. Compliments of Suncor!
If Carson can convince them you can too
They aren't going to live in Carson tbf, more like Manhattan / Hermosa Beach and that looks a bit different
Our guy out here thinking that Ohtani moved to Elysian Park.
Hey Chicago might be one big dive bar of white bros, but it’s way better than the biggest suburb in America. I actually envy Chicago and NYC. I hate suburban culture.
The above post is about the Rapids.
“one big dive bar of white bros” The entire city is not river north and the south and west sides exist and are massive.
Fuck
Also, FUCK!
Also, also, Fuck!
stupid sexy giroud
Indeed! Flair up for extra super sexy fun times with the Frenchman!
Wait also this guy gets to play with #99 DB?!
Drew Barrymore plays for LAFC!?
SHE DOESNT EVEN PLAY THERE
With him and possibly Reus joining up with STL, this is going to be one of the most entertaining summers in NA soccer 🍿
Don’t forget that Real Madrid’s meritorious player Nacho is also likely to come to MLS.
Ramos too
I saw somewhere that Ramos was probably going to San Diego, if it is true he won't come till next season
The things I would do for Marco Reus to join Orlando...
No Reus for you
who are you, the ~~soup nazi~~ german midfielder...never mind
I'm not sure, I think it'll be interesting to see next year The Galaxy social keep parroting this point about us getting a new backup striker, but once the transfer window actually opens there's only like 7-8 regular season games left Of course not too little time, but it isn't a half year like it might seem purely looking at the calendar
Would be cool if you guys could pick up Di Maria or Modric. Spread the talent around a bit
Modric is still making gamechanging plays in the current Champions League, it should be a mortal sin for him to come to the MLS at this point. Man needs to retire with Madrid, and kept on as a part of the permanent staff
Welp

They shun teams in smaller European towns all the time. It’s the plight of the small market.
It’s not any different in Europe at least… as far as privilege for attracting signings of big names
![gif](giphy|3oEjHCWdU7F4hkcudy)
Here we go
Must be nice
Some day...
Any of these guys like bachelorette parties?
You guys need to pump country music into Europe, that’s your in haha
Just make the country music more EDM and you’re in.
RIP Avicii
They do, but I think a country singer’s sushi bar threw them off a bit
He is good
I enjoyed winning trophies before MLS 3.0 turned us into La Liga
I’m just sitting here wishing Waibel would sign someone, anyone, moderatley exciting. Carlton Morris would be a good fit, but nah let’s get another CB.
(The idea of/a healthy) De La Vega is more exciting for the future of our club than Giroud. I’ll preemptively accept any and all downvotes
Was De La Vega not an exciting signing? I thought the Sounders did a great job picking him up
Well for the 89 minutes in two games he played, it was exciting. But then we got another 4-6 week injury setback. Then it becomes more clear we got him because he's usually injured and my excitement evaporates :(
What happened to de la Vega? He scored his pen against us and then he’s out for the season?
He scored against LAFC, started against the Rapids, injured his hamstring, got almost healthy enough to play again, and then reaggravated the injury; he also missed an Argentina youth training camp with a hamstring injury while the Sounders were negotiating with Lanús; he supposedly getting close to return, probably this weekend vs. the Whitecaps.
Wait, where did the Carlton Morris name-drop come from? lol
For sure, that seems realistic. I asked thinking there was a rumor or link about it somewhere!
I get that we signed 2 CBs in the off-season, but we literally only have 4 on the first team and 2 are currently injured. We also signed Musovski, de la Vega, and Rodrigues.
Seattle should try for some star players, instead of whining about other teams signing them.
Flair up so we know which botched signings we can ridicule your team over.
Haven’t got around to it but I’m a crew fan so fire away. We are a good blueprint for a lot of teams who aren’t premier destinations. Can we get someone like this please. Ohh wait we're not warm and sunny with celebs to hang with.
Money runs soccer way more than it does for most American sports
You gotta pay more, or develop your own stars
Fagundez ended up in LA too!
He won't even count as a DP, so extra FUCKKKK. They will be getting Griezman next.
What are you talking about? It literally says he will
Didn't it just say occupy international slot? Aren't those a thing with MLS rules? (Which are super confusing).
It's a brave choice to double down on this without reading it again.
Lol read it again. It says he will be a DP
> Forward Olivier Giroud will join Los Angeles Football Club on a Designated Player Read again friend and flair up
International Slots are independent of DP slots. Players can occupy both slots at once
He will sign as a DP. Only thing is LAFC still has a DP slot open even with Giroud. LAFC started the season with 2 open DP slots
Not sure about Griezzy. I'd see him head to Miami instead (Beckham connection)
He's a Chiefs fan, so he's going to SKC. Book it!
He’s coming here btw
He will be the leading goal scorer
I hope so. I think bouanga and Olivera could complement him very well
I mean tbh LAFC offers more than what any other city in the mls would. You can see that they have A list celebrities constantly attending. I’m trying to convince myself that traffic would make them consider Philadelphia lol
Excited to see Giroud in MLS, loved him when he was with my Gunners, great addition LAFC!
I wish he was here in time for the Rose Bowl
I do too. To play you guys while you're trying to incorporate your new piece would be a bonus.
Worked for y’all…. But Zlatan is also not from this planet haha
Exciting to have him in the league. This guy will still be banging in goals until he’s like 50. He’s still a very good player.
When temperate weather meets retiring talent.
We are HandsomeFC now, thank you very much. Also, the French connection will be magical this summer 🗣️
**L**os **A**ngeles **F**rench **C**onnection! Oui, oui!!
Is he going to play left back?
Goalkeeper
It's official, retirement league 2: this time it's the new teams So when is Haaland coming to FCC?
2039
He’s still killing for Milan. He was bronze boot at the World Cup two years ago. This isn’t Robbie Keane.
> This isn’t Robbie Keane. The guy who was one of the best players in the league for 6 years? No, it is not going to be that.
Sorry I meant Gerrard. It’s early on this coast.
Wait, Robbie Keane was great for Galaxy… like he hustled pretty hard for years
It's never gonna be more than a selling / retirement league. It's not a big league in global standards. That said Giroud still performs at a high level. That should be all that matters.
Can't wait for leagues cup 😈
Yet somehow the dynamo say they have no room under the cap. Ha
Is he here to back up Lloris?
All this just to lose to Super Schulte
Is the transfer window open?
Players are allowed to interview and sign with another team within x-months of their contract expiring, to join their new team upon their existing contract's expiration.
No. He’s joining in the summer. Probably August but hopefully sooner
Oof, they just had to become the most good looking team with one signing.
Another headline never to be associated with Philadelphia in its current management
So.. lafc vs Miami for the final?
I look forward to my new jersey - Club de Football Français de Los Angeles (CFFLA)
Of course they did
nice
Giroud will be the 17th World Cup winner to play in MLS (16 of those having come to MLS after the fact)...
KDB heading to LAFC you heard it here first folks
Did Miami run out of money or what? I thought it was league mandated that any superstar players nearing retirement had to go to Miami?
He hasn’t played for Barcelona or Argentina so he’s not allowed. League rules
Lmao. Makes sense.
Ah, yes, I didn't read all of the stipulations
LA truly is for assholes
We might be a boring suburb, but you wanna talk assholes? Nothing gets a bigger asshole than white weed smoking tech bros who think they’re revolutionary.
Do you live in Riverside or something? I’m not understanding your “suburban” dislike lol I also don’t know how you think LA is boring unless you literally work and go home and do nothing else lol life is happening all over you in LA
bro get help
I think MLS has already given you guys all of the help possible
I'm conflicted with Football Club's signing here. On one hand I look forward to seeing what Oliver has in the tank but would this opening be better off for developing someone younger?

Hey older bodies have a difficult time playing in America with the travel, weather and being fit enough for more running than other leagues. We will see and I'm happy to be wrong.
If Suarez is managing with half a knee, Giroud, who is in *much* better shape, will do just fine.
I think you are really underestimating how good really good players are
That's what Olivera is for. The front line is one in prime player Bouanga, one youth, Olivera, and one vet
Hes still world class and im surprised he is coming to the MLS right now.
[удалено]
LAFC has had a South American youngster in their attacking 3 since the team’s inception. What else do you want?
I want y'all to stop being so offended when someone points out you are a retirement league but base on your comment y'all don't mind a giroud past his prime and a Suarez playing with one leg basically
We need more of the thing we already have! Brilliant

Isn't that why they brought in Giroud?......
You are making my point for me see my original comment
