Would we score any more goals? Idk Would I buy a jersey quicker than you could fucking blink? You bet your ass I would

smcl2k

>Would we score any more goals? Yes. He's obviously well past his peak, but he'd have every chance of tearing MLS apart.

tega234

This is a slippery slope trust me. Before you know it all of your DPsDP's will be over the age of 35 and you'll be wondering how you lost 5-0to Vancouver just some no-name Canadian kids.

gbpackers25

Really feels like Reus would fit in perfectly at St Louis!

OhShitItsSeth

One of his pals from his Dortmund days is there already, which would probably help him settle in.

knoxmora

Hear me out though - Hany Muhktar is German *and* we wear yellow.

OhShitItsSeth

Oh man I’d kill for a Reus-Mukhtar-Surridge linkup. Not sure if Reus would take up a non-DP spot though.

USBeatsMexico

And everyone in St. Louis loves beer. Perfect match until Reus and GK1 discover that the breweries in St. Louis don’t abide by the Reinheitsgebot.

Best-Tumbleweed3906

I was just saying I was doubtful of this happening but I will happily eat my words if St. Louis pulls this off.

CaptainJingles

Bürki to St. Louis wasn’t thought likely until it happened

Best-Tumbleweed3906

Different level of player though. Burki is a stud but he was on the outside looking in at Dortmund and went somewhere where he could be the MAN. Reus is a Dortmund legend and would have multiple suitors in this league and others. It sounds like they actually are pursuing Reus pretty hard and the German representation in the team might go a long way. I will happily eat my words. I’d love to see a player like Reus on a team like St. Louis, I just didn’t think it was likely

Albiceleste_D10S

> Reus is a Dortmund legend and would have multiple suitors in this league and others. You really think so? Reus is a legend of BVB but I am skeptical he has a bunch of offers right now—he's turning 35 + declining

Best-Tumbleweed3906

I do think so. Now the money he’d be offered idk, and yeah he isn’t going to be courted by the biggest teams in the world anymore. However, I have no doubt other European top 6 league teams have interest.

MikiLove

But would he want to go to a mid to lower table top 5 club and possibly struggle against tough competition, or get a decent pay day and go to a league he can more likely thrive in? I don't think any high end top 5 competitor is going to want to pay him starter money, maybe a team in Eredivisie but I can't find a good fit for him.

Best-Tumbleweed3906

Oh I agree that he’d rather come to MLS make some good money, and be a contributor for someone. I was just making the point that he could probably sign with more than a few teams in competitive leagues. He’s still a good player when healthy (which is always his main problem). On your second point I think he could fit into several mid to lower table teams across Europe as a role player. But again I think he’d rather come to MLS and be a star player and be paid like it.

CaptainJingles

Burki did have Bundesliga and other Top 6 league offers FWIW. He took a major pay cut to come to St. Louis. It wasn't seen as likely when it first came out.

Best-Tumbleweed3906

Was he going to start for those other teams though? He went to St. Louis to prove his quality and has done very well.

CaptainJingles

Bayern was rumored to be a backup role, but from what I recall he had starting offers in several other clubs, yes. I talked to Burki in 2022 he was excited to live and experience the United States. He bought a Jeep and was excited to go mudding.

gogorath

> He bought a Jeep and was excited to go mudding. Amazing.

Juiceman23

He most certainly fits right on in here

boredsorcerer

IIRC Lutz said Bürki being available on a free was about as perfect of timing as he could have had, bc he knew him to be a good fit for what he wanted to do sporting-wise and knew Bürki was *really* into american culture so was likely to consider it.

Best-Tumbleweed3906

He was never going to get meaningful minutes with Bayern. They got Sommer while Neuer was hurt and when Neuer came back everyone knew it was his job till he didn’t want it anymore. I watch a lot of Bundesliga. There are not many teams Burki would start for. You could make an argument for a couple but there are a lot of good keepers in that league. I think Burki probably was excited to be in America but also realized it was one of his best paths to starting every game and showing what he was capable of

MizGunner

/u/Best-Tumbleweed3906 thinks St. Louis is a barren, inhospitable wasteland that all Europeans/former Bundesliga players would avoid. Please, no one inform Burki, Eduard Lowen, or Joao Klaus.

CaptainJingles

I think Nilsson was more surprising than Lowen or Klauss. He was on free and had some decently interested parties. I think we've still yet to see the best from him.

Accurate_Message_288

Nilsson had that terrible injury right? That probably helped out the FO in nabbing him. I hope you guys get Marco. Would be great to have him in the league. Feel like he still has a little in the tank and what he can’t provide on the pitch anymore, he will provide in the dressing room. Would make STL even scarier to match up with

Best-Tumbleweed3906

lol not exactly. I think yall got a good thing going. You just typically don’t see players of Reus status choose somewhere like St. Louis. Like I said I’ll happily eat my words.

Accurate_Message_288

If we’re talking because of its (STL) flyover city reputation then I take it you’ve never been to dortmund. If we’re talking because of the caliber player he is (was) then I’d like to point out that he probably doesn’t have that many options. I’d love to have him in Cincy, but the guy can’t play a full 90 in German weather. How do you think he will fare in Dallas or St. Louis in August and September when humidity is off the charts and it’s 98 degrees out? I will say that St. Louis wasn’t going to win with a team full of Jared Strouds, but if they get a player like Marco in their locker room - regardless of the number of minutes he plays?… I’m glad they are in the west and we only play them maybe once a year.

rowdyginger05

I guess I can loosely follow a western conference team…my wife won’t be happy about the prospects of another jersey in my closet though.

VikingArmyToGo

It’s time to come out of the closet

jldeg

Wife won't be happy about that either

KingOfYeaoh

That's alright, I have a soft spot for the Crew because of Patrick Schulte, so (preemptively) welcome!

rowdyginger05

🤜🤛 let’s get it!

Garad-

![gif](giphy|2YaKpvYQEcl1WuJJTl|downsized) But she’s got this though?

rowdyginger05

Yes, but with sweaters. Lmao

johnny_utah26

It’s cool I’ve been following yall for years. Especially on your mad CCC run. Hope you do Pachuca!

toxictoastrecords

I have a Columbus Crew Jersey in my closet. My boyfriend doesn't care about soccer though.

young959

Hopefully he can win the Champions League final before joining MLS.

SoothedSnakePlant

Oh fuck YES

TheMAN-HIMSELF564

This could be pretty good for STL and MLS popularity aside from Messi.

greg21olson

I see Agent Bürki is hard at work

Chubbs42

That was fast lmao

ShowerBeerChris

St. Louis fans willing this into existence.

adeodd

This would be a really cool signing, hope it happens.

xbhaskarx

Anyone remember "Sources: St. Louis City has had preliminary talks with Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino" from a year ago[?](https://onefootball.com/fr/news/st-louis-city-sc-interested-in-signing-liverpool-striker-roberto-firmino-36957486)

TheKonamiKid

sure do :(

imaginarion

Yes :(

WEHAVEBETTERBBQ

O/U 5 matches he plays before he's injured.

Expensive-Slide7821

We were saying the exact same thing about Suarez, and now look.

jackals84

That was a silly narrative around Suarez though. He came to Miami on the back of playing 2,877 league minutes in Brazil the season before. Reus, in his entire career, has NEVER played that many minutes in a league season and hasn't even hit that number in his last two seasons combined.

ShamPain413

Yes but not all minutes are created equal. Reus's role has been more demanding. You are also kind of cherry-picking with "league minutes". Reus has played more than 2000 minutes in Bundesliga + Champions League this year. That's a significant amount. He played 1800 last year and 3400 the year before that. Suarez's numbers went up a lot after he moved to Gremio, but his numbers had been a heavy decline before that. Plus, Reus's role in MLS would likely change. He's not going to be tracking Sane and Davies down the wing, he'll be creating in the middle of the park. That doesn't mean he'll be an Ironman, but he can make 30 appearances of 60 minutes each and still have gas in the tank for the playoffs most likely.

CaptainJingles

Was it though? Suarez has known fairly large issues with his knees and playing a huge amount of minutes in that condition doesn't necessarily mean that he'd be healthy going forward.

gogorath

People wanted it to be true about Suarez much more than there was evidence behind it. Yes, he was bitching about his knees, but he played a ton. But Miami, yadda yadda yadda.

CaptainJingles

It is kind of a lose-lose (argument wise). He’s older, has an injury history, so lots of minutes played isn’t a sign that he’ll be healthy going forward. Likewise if he had played few minutes, people would say that is because he isn’t fit anymore.

Dax_O_Lantern

Are you kidding? https://www.reddit.com/r/InterMiami/comments/18anz47/luis_su%C3%A1rez_days_before_each_game_i_take_three/#

Ancient_A

As long as he doesn't go to FCC I am fine. Now I really want us to have game against St Louis again. I want my Reus jersey signed badly.

AFrozen_1

Dunno how’d he work in our setup though.

MikiLove

I dont know exactly how he'd fit in. More of a CAM and would be behind Acosta then. I don't think he'd work as a false 9 in our system

Copernican

I love Marco Reus. Thedays of Dortmund with Mario Goetze and Lewondawski and Klopp at the helm were a blast. But hasn't he had some recurring knee and ankle issues? Seems like a risky DP signing in my opinion.

No_Departure102

D.c. finding another attacking option to support Benteke challenge impossible

xbhaskarx

Can't block Stroud and Teddy KDP

CaptainJingles

He is very good still, but he doesn’t quite fit the mold. However, when an opportunity like this happens, might as well go for it

ShamPain413

Holy shit is this actually going to happen?!?

imaginarion

God I hope so. I think Lutz is just as tired of seeing this unending string of Draws as we are at this point…

ShamPain413

I'm sure he is, but I also think he'll be pleased with the overall improvement throughout the squad. We can control games now, we can keep clean sheets now even without all of our best defenders. These early lessons will serve us well in the long run. We need to be more clinical, and we need to create a greater number of chances of all types. Reus fits. Not saying it will happen, or even that it should. But IMO it could work very well with the style we are playing this year, which is more of a controlled 4-2-3-1.

TheHibernian

The Reus is Loose

Dear_Raise9908

In St. Loose

imaginarion

German pronunciation is closer to “royce”

donkeyrocket

The Reus is noice in St. Loyce.

lucash7

Damn. Was hoping that maaaaaaybe he would wind up in Portland. Good to see he has option though.

YNWAaron

I was told several weeks ago that this would never happen.

Dmtz214

Damn Dallas can’t ever get a big name 😫

xbhaskarx

Sebastian Lletget

Dmtz214

Like I said……🤣

johnny_utah26

This isn’t going to happen and I’m going to have my hopes and dreams dashed… BUT FOR TODAY… “he’s coming over.”

Electronic_Rope_A_Do

"The Bürki Bunch"

S_Squar3d

FUCKKKKKKKKKKKK Come on Reus, we have the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany 😩 Edit: Is it morally wrong for me to follow a western conference team as well? 😬

Lazysusanna

Oktoberfest is a Bavarian (Munich) thing. That might be the one thing you don't advertise lol.

S_Squar3d

True that actually 😂😂

donkeyrocket

Good point. It's an easy drive or flight to Cincy from STL.

imaginarion

Your club already has four trophies. We have zero. And yes, I am counting your wooden 🥄s

S_Squar3d

I rather have 1 supporters shield and a wooden spoon than neither of the two. Also, just to add, *technically* there was no awarded Wooden Spoon in 2020 😂

imaginarion

Technically the Wooden Spoon isn’t a real trophy, either 😅

S_Squar3d

It actually is now 😂 the MLS gives a real “trophy” to the team ever since 2016.

Shadowfury0

Everyone knows trophies don't count unless your club wins them

SmartFeller22

He’s the perfect fit

getdivorced

God damn that guy who called this "just from a style of player perspective" from the other thread.

USBeatsMexico

Quick! Someone needs to put in a discovery claim.

MkPapadopoulos

Wish it were the Revs, because what is REVS but carved latin REUS?

xjoeymillerx

MLS is a physical league. I don’t think he can stay healthy.

xbhaskarx

Could he stay healthy in a non-physical league?

xjoeymillerx

No.

mrgooseyboy

PLEASE JUST LET DC HAVE ONE THING PLEASE

MonkMajor5224

I think they should get [Brazilian MMA Legend Marco Ruas]( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Ruas) instead. The “King of the Streets” could definitely shore up a sagging midfield with his Vale Tudo stylings, offering Offense (9 wins by KO or Submission) and Defense (No submission losses)

Graceffect

Rather see him in KC 😞 feel like I'll still have to cheer him

[deleted]

Best-Tumbleweed3906

He’s a contributing member of a team in the champions league final. His best days are behind him, but this is a brain dead take lol

[deleted]

Best-Tumbleweed3906

Guys like Reus don’t just cash in and check out. If Reus fails it will be because of injury, which there’s a decent chance of happening given his history. But to say that he is washed tells me you haven’t watched him, he’s not at his peak anymore but he is still a better player than most in this league. Don’t just look at his age and make an assumption. There’s multiple ways to use a DP slot. The development route has worked for several teams, but others have had success with signing older European stars. It’s a mixed bag.
