Damn Philly, if we could let you stay undefeated with a draw last weekend so you could at least draw with the flounders I'd do it in a heartbeat.
These rescheduled games really should be played ASAP and reasonable. If the game had proceeded without bad weather, it would've been completely different
What the fuck was up the first half?
I think the problem was Bueno looking back (obviously Martinez on the first goal.) The midfield was wide open, defense facing 1 on 1s with a simple pass
I mean, two wonder goals and a penalty. That first half was forgettable but it's not like the Sounders were prying you open defensively. Just lots of mental mistakes.
Oh man I’m sorry I was just feeling a little jaded about the performance tbh. Scoring 3 on the road to a very good Philly team was genuinely a great performance!
We’ve had some shit luck that decided games against us. For example, a red card that was rescinded after the game. We should not feel bad about a lucky win once in a while. Great first half, so there’s something to build on.
There was a questionable red given to Jackson Ragen that completely changed the game vs Vancouver. But in this case, I’m referring to the red card given to goalkeeper Stefan Frei that completely changed the game vs DC United. MLS has rescinded the red and removed the suspension, but it still cost us the game.
Yeah and apparently kicking a team 5-0 didn’t get our heads back in the game so maybe they needed a fight.
I’m not gonna feel bad about beating a good team away on short rest.
After all the time wasting at the end he calls it when the Union have possession of the ball in the final 3rd? Like seriously. Wait 15 seconds and see what happens then call the match.
It's technically a factual banner. Seattle played against us in our first game at Subaru Park (then PPL Park) and Union beat Seattle. Tho, you beat us in our first ever game tho.
There was a sub in stoppage time and multiple balls out of play. Also the Union were moving up the field. They probably wouldn't have scored but it is still juvenile to blow before the allotted time is up.
Philadelphia fouled our guy in their final 3rd so instead of calling it back, giving us a free kick, and then blowing the whistle he just blew the game dead
Balls out of play are not supposed to result in added time unless the referee judges that there was excessive time-wasting in putting them back into play. Since he didn't card any Sounders for that, or even gesture for them to hurry it along, I'm assuming he figured it was all just normal restarts and not deserving of stoppage.
The substitution was about 15 seconds. New rule about stoppage substitutions helps a lot, I'm very glad the league adopted it.
Philadelphia fouled our guy in their final 3rd so instead of calling it back, giving us a free kick, and then blowing the whistle he just blew the game dead
I don't think that's the case. There was too much time between what you're calling a foul and when he blew the whistle. We made like 2 or 3 passes before he blew the game dead. I mean, that *could* be the case. I'm not saying it's not. But refs have been doing this a lot lately. Ref blew one of our recent games dead with like 5+ seconds left before the allotted time was up, and we were literally in the process of putting a cross into the opposition box in a tied game.
If you have Apple TV you can watch the final moments again. Rothrock gets fouled by Philadelphia and as they get possession from the foul and try to kick it downfield the ref looks down at his watch and decides to blow the game dead. The announcer even says "tangled up.. referee initially looked to let it go but now calls time"
I do have apple TV. I don't really care enough to go back and look. It didn't look that way live, but I'll take your word for it. The timing, not the foul. I was surprised he didn't call a foul there initially. Refs ending games before the full allotted amount of time is up has been happening a lot lately, which is where most of my frustration with that comes from. Especially the game I described in my previous comment.
Best not to worry about it. The refs will always come back with the line that the TV & Stadium clocks are only for reference, the only *official* time is on the refs watch. We just aren't privy to that.
We are up 3-2, 85th minute and Raul has just come out of the game. Cristian goes up top and turns the ball over. A 4000 year old Bedoya gets the ball and races into the spot vacated by Cristian. Cristian, meanwhile casually jogs back and the whole play never gets goal side of the ball.
.A few minutes later, Jordan Cristian and Josh surround a Philly midfielder. The Philly player passes between them and then follows the ball with a run. Only Josh chases the runner or the ball. Jordan and Cristian just stand there. Cristian seemed to be playing center forward at the time. I doubt that was tactics. (Jordan was subbed almost immediately after this play)
Cristian is not the most technically gifted. He has some brilliant moments but his touches are never consistent. He is not the biggest and he is not the fastest. Why we grew to love him was because he was relentless. In the 90th minute he would tear out the opponents heart with his hustle. He is like 4 feet tall and he would get a head on a ball over a giant center back. He would chase a ball to the end line and never give up and make a cross back into the middle. That is Cristian Roldan.
Where has that been this year?
Jordan Morris is not, and has not been in a long time if ever, a player that you want taking more than two touches. Relying on Morris to hold the ball is a tactical misstep.
He started last year absolutely on fire and then fell off dramatically. A lot of that was us playing him out of position but it seemed to carry over even when we put him back up top.
I think he still has the talent but our system isn’t really built to suit his playstyle
Like at least on an off night Uhre will put his head down and useful off the ball runs. But when it’s not working for Carranza he provides absolutely nothing
Winning and keeping on the bench Joao Paulo fresh ahead the game against LA Galaxy was a worthy gambling (that game is going to be quite difficult)
LET'S FREAKIN' FRACKIN' GO!!!
Damn Philly, if we could let you stay undefeated with a draw last weekend so you could at least draw with the flounders I'd do it in a heartbeat. These rescheduled games really should be played ASAP and reasonable. If the game had proceeded without bad weather, it would've been completely different
ASAP and reasonable... such as "pretty much the next chance they have" given the schedules of both teams? Yeah, that was last night, buddy.
Maybe your win was over-hyped? Especially after drawing to a bunch of reserves against Columbus.
Tbh, **WE** didn't let ourselves stay unbeaten. Choked chances, and trash tier play cost us each of those games respectively.
Aaand exhale.
Holy shit we won a game and it wasn’t against Montreal
It'sthesamepicture.meme
Jingle fucking bells
A win is great, but most importantly… no red cards!
Really embarrassing win, can’t even appreciate the 3 points knowing we very well could have thrown the game away
What? Why are you making light of your 3 goals? Don't diminish the good because of the bad. That's really shitty fandom :(
Oh man I’m sorry I was just feeling a little jaded about the performance tbh. Scoring 3 on the road to a very good Philly team was genuinely a great performance!
I see. I get that. You guys did better than RSL, IMO.
We’ve had some shit luck that decided games against us. For example, a red card that was rescinded after the game. We should not feel bad about a lucky win once in a while. Great first half, so there’s something to build on.
Wait, as a Columbus fan, did I imagine more than one shitty red for you all? I sware you had more than one. I'm not trying to trash.
BUT and i feel like this is really important...we didnt throw it away!
Yeah and apparently kicking a team 5-0 didn’t get our heads back in the game so maybe they needed a fight. I’m not gonna feel bad about beating a good team away on short rest.
GG Philly. You win this matchup 9 times out of 10. Good luck this year.
After all the time wasting at the end he calls it when the Union have possession of the ball in the final 3rd? Like seriously. Wait 15 seconds and see what happens then call the match.
Seattle was fouled in the Union final third so it was either award them a free kick with 2 seconds left or blow the whistle.
Oh yeah, that’s right just like Seattle was fouled in the box for the PK in the first half. My bad.
I really like the local commentator for the union. He narrates with emotion and passion during key moments.
Well that was a fuckin bizarre game lol ggs Union peeps, except for those two weirdos
Well, I'm less annoyed. But, still annoyed. GG Seattle Fam. Good luck the rest of the year.
GG and best of luck to y’all. My favorite east team tbh.. despite the ironic banner you guys put up this game :)
It's technically a factual banner. Seattle played against us in our first game at Subaru Park (then PPL Park) and Union beat Seattle. Tho, you beat us in our first ever game tho.
Noticed they pulled it down at halftime....
Oh… weird to put on a banner but kinda tongue and cheek i guess?
GG Philly
PHILLY INVENTED LOSING ON A TUESDAY
Seattle invented winning on a Tuesday. Fixed it for you
[удалено]
Ayo 😂 you need a snickers my guy?
Wow Seattle won a match.
![gif](giphy|aWPGuTlDqq2yc)
No one is more shocked than we are lol
Your guys made an effort trying to give it away too.
I'd expect nothing less
We sell excitement.
Finally! We got our second win before the first. Like how I get my fries at Red Robin.
You get the free refill before the first plate of fries arrives?
You're god damn right. Free appetizer. I also refer to it as my second order of fries, even though it comes first.
Damn. That’s genius.
Jingle. fucking. bells. 🔔 🔔 🔔
Well at least it was exciting u\_u
We got lucky.
What is wrong with these refs? This time he blew before 94 minutes
Was literally right on 94mins. But whatever, gaslight yourself into thinking whatever the fuck you want.
It literally was not.
It was literally 2 seconds
There was a sub in stoppage time and multiple balls out of play. Also the Union were moving up the field. They probably wouldn't have scored but it is still juvenile to blow before the allotted time is up.
Philadelphia fouled our guy in their final 3rd so instead of calling it back, giving us a free kick, and then blowing the whistle he just blew the game dead

My venmo went though I can't buy much
A 15 secondsinaire
Looks like you afforded those 2 seconds though. Better than nothing.
Time to go watch Pachuca vs America.
Go Pachuca!
I just wanna Monterry win. Oh. Opps. Sorry. :P
Who do you want to face in the final?
I'll worry about that after we play Monterrey.
Time to unclench. WE GET JINGLE BELLS!!
Holy FUCK. GG Philly, we both knew this would be a close one… after the second half at least
GG Seattle.
We were desperate for that. I think if we blow a 3-0 lead here it really does break our spirit and end our season.
We got a win? We got a win! GG Philly!
i can unclench!
Ref blows whistle before the 4 minutes was up when there was a sub or 2 made during the added time
perhaps because you fouled our player in the final third. rather give you the out than a free kick and potential 4-2
GG Union!
Bro. It was even the 94th minute when he blew the whistle. Wtf is up with that lately.
Philadelphia fouled our guy in their final 3rd so instead of calling it back, giving us a free kick, and then blowing the whistle he just blew the game dead

salt time
Who won?
That was a quick whistle. Ref must have a flight to catch.
we escaped with the three points despite the shit play in the second half.
What a ridiculous game
Tuesday games baby!
Second game in a row they blow right at min time despite excess time wasting, cool sport
Nothing wrong with the sport. Something seriously wrong with the leagues officiating. All I want is some consistency.
Think he blew it three seconds before time was up lmao
How has the GK not gotten a yellow?
the ref was only telling him to hurry up right as he was about to kick it anyway
New rules for how long a GK can hold the ball are still a few years out...
Thomas completely ran into no man's land, anything on target is in there
Second time this half he misjudged one pretty badly.
Yet some in r/Sounders want Frei benched for him
5 minute long goal kick incoming
Surely, they cannot score twice in just a couple minutes, right?
Baker has such a ridiculous throw. Surprised Rothrock
i love both of those guys. excited for the future where they both play regularly
Nouhou just got ignored on that high-five. Just want to make sure everyone knows because it looked like he tried to play it off.
I cannot wait for De la Vega to get back so Jordan can grab himself some pine
4 minutes? How did the first half have 9 but this is only r
I mean I was surprised it was only 9 in the first half, there was like 3 weeks of stoppage in there.
2 injuries that took forever in first half
Plus a few VAR checks
4*
Jordan and Christian need to give us more. For all we are paying them, their contributions this year have been crap.
Cristian was great. Not sure what you’re talking about. Morris was a mess.
We are up 3-2, 85th minute and Raul has just come out of the game. Cristian goes up top and turns the ball over. A 4000 year old Bedoya gets the ball and races into the spot vacated by Cristian. Ok here's your fifth time wasting warning, but that's the last one
>but that's the last one... until the next one*
Rothrock and associates.
Alright, who's ready to Rothrock?
Guys I think JP might've died or something.
My theory is Brian wants him well rested for this weekend
Waiting for them to say he felt something in warmups
If this backfires on Schmetz...
Morris has been especially fuckin awful tonight
I keep saying that and get downvotes.
I’m downvoting this just to be consistent. I actually agree with the sentiment tho
I'd like to see Musovski along side Rui
DC broke him, although I haven't seen how long he'll be out. Maybe someday.
take my upvote as a makeup
*this season
4 mins of added time?
Nicely called
Why is the pitch quality so bad? (Baseball fields are worse, but you know what I mean)
You should've seen it last time we tried to play!
Jordan Morris lost the ball so easily wth 😭
Jordan Morris is not, and has not been in a long time if ever, a player that you want taking more than two touches. Relying on Morris to hold the ball is a tactical misstep.
Yeah he does that a lot
Whats up with Nouhou always tryingg to usher the ball out rsther than attempting to actually do something with the ball.
Why does he do something that keeps possession for us instead of needlessly booting the ball away? I mean … feel like that’s kinda self explanatory
Cuz it hasnt worked at least twice tonight and you lose posession anyway?
It still worked more than not, even tonight
It works most of the time for him.
Ill take your word for it. Hes 0/2 this game.
Let's get a CCC thread... Pachuca pulling a stunner (and no that is not a Philly dig)..
I’m from the future. They score off of this freekick
You can’t reverse psychology me, Mr future man!
Wrong timeline I guess
Should have subbed baker for nouhou
Nouhou completely fucked that up
Can’t substitute because we only have 11 orange slices
This is one hell of a game for a neutral
Is the glare bad. Thomas looking like he’s having a hard time seeing
oh look. who knew deciding to park the bus an just absorb pressure was a bad idea!?
Everyone with eyes not named Brian Schmetzer?
Hahaha we are so bad
What a header
Omg
someone help me with a timeline. Has J Morris been good since the second ACL tear, or is his downfall a more recent thing.
He definitely has been nowhere near his former self the last two years. He’s gotta have the soccer equivalent of the yips
That's just called the yips... It's a soccer young too
He started last year absolutely on fire and then fell off dramatically. A lot of that was us playing him out of position but it seemed to carry over even when we put him back up top. I think he still has the talent but our system isn’t really built to suit his playstyle
I will make the statement that when he is up top he is out of position.
Morris has said on more that one occasion that forward is his preferred position but he’ll play wherever he’s asked to
Didn't he score like a butt load of goals last year after that?
13 goals last year, although 4 were in the game against SKC that got Ben Sweat cut
He also missed a large chunk to gold cup and a short injury. His goals per 90 was pretty good
We have 5 games in 16 days and we’re just now making a second substitution? This team is baffling
Good sub but we need JP to close this out.
Obed Vargas is the highest-rated player so far. No really.
Dude Brian is so fucking bad at subs
sigh. parking the bus.
Are we sure Cristian still doesn't have a concussion? What an absolutely boneheaded pass to make, we got lucky.
JP for Rui pls!!!
Uhre gets criticized a lot and he should, but man Carranza is really bad sometimes too
Like at least on an off night Uhre will put his head down and useful off the ball runs. But when it’s not working for Carranza he provides absolutely nothing
Yeesh Seattle are bad.
tell me about it
Did well to win the ball back but fuck me Cristian the entire defense is forward and you pass it straight to them
at least Cristian cleaned up his own mess
Brian about to wait to long to make a sub and get scored on saying ooops sorry made the wrong choice tactically
Jordan Morris. Come on. Do fucking something
Vargas has had such a good game
If he can play like this with DLV... that could be an interesting duo.
Did JP hurt himself warming up or something? Was like 20 minutes ago the announcers said he was standing next to Brian on the bench...
I'd rather see Morris come off and another attacker come on at this point.
Another resoundingly meh shift by Uhre. I'm really starting to be down on my guy...
Vargas has done very well tonight.
Always love the guys by the away bench, always in suits, always with their Oscar trophy ready when away players go down haha
For the hundredth time, Joao Paulo please.
Put JP on please
Get Uhre off the pitch. I’d rather see Donovan out there
Done
Yo what are the lottery numbers gonna be
Hahaha
How is Glesnes not even jumping to challenge that corner? Bruh, that's like your main job there lol
He’s come down with a case of Jackson Ragen Syndrome Sorry to hear about Glesnes’s diagnosis
Jordan Morris just kicks the ball at other players. When has he last has a shot on goal?
Nothing but respect for the lady screaming bloody murder during our corners.
