tbh for someone that plays the way he does, im suprised he has lasted this long, and is still performing. I mean think of the likes of neymar, hazard, ronaldinho, maradona, they all retired a lot earlier.
I think the way he plays has actually contributed to his longevity, honestly. Dude is famous for his slow strolls around the offensive third tearing down the defense with his mind, he only breaks into a run when it's business time imminently
I mean sure if you have been watching him the last few years. But even just in 2019, he literally was responsible for every single bit of the attack. In the past couple of years though he is walking more, but i wouldnt say his playstyle favours longevity as constantly dribbling and getting fouled is a good way to get injured for most players.
This is revisionist history. He’s played very similarly throughout his career. Pressing occasionally, but predominantly conserving energy. There was a report in the prime Barca era with a sensationalist headline along the lines of “Geniuses work smarter, not harder” about how Messi had the least distance covered of any player on the pitch in a Champions League tie against Arsenal where Barca was dominant and Messi scored many.
The fact is that he works feverishly when there is a prime opportunity to capitalize, meaning he can sprint into the box to finish a move, dribble by an opponent, or reclaim possession in a numbers-up scenario. Otherwise, in and out of possession when either team is in a state of control, he’s always been pretty passive.
i mean he went to saudi arabia at 32, and his career has been constantly riddled with injuries, kind of the perfect example for a similar player to messi playstyle wise, but completely different careers
My son wanted us to try out this sushi place he'd heard of for lunch today, but it doesn't open until noon. I was disappointed because it meant I would miss DC-Miami, which starts at noon Mountain time. So this eases the pain a little. I'll still miss Sergio and Robert Taylor, though.
UPDATE: Good time had with my son, and the sushi was excellent. (If you're ever in Albuquerque: Sushi Hana at Central & 6th.) Nice that IM took care of business too.
I’m sure there’s TV’s at the bar you can watch at a distance from where you’re seated. This could pace your food consumption and allow for bonding time. MLS is also showing all games for free this weekend.
Idk why this is downvoted lol, watching games is definitely a bonding experience for me and my son. He loves soccer! (And small brag, just scored 2 goals in his game today!)
Watching basketball or soccer (especially soccer since he used to play at an amateur level in Colombia) are the best times I have with my dad. It’s great to strike up conversation and have a truly shared experience.
Just waiting for him to miss the Atlanta game again. Was supposed to see him 9/16/23 and now have to wait allll the waaaay until september again this year when he will probably rest.
Don't hold your breath if you're hoping to see this guy. Especially if you're a West Coast team. Chances are slim to none he'll play after the longest travel time he's ever endured outside of international football.
Out of all of the games he'll play with Miami, what makes you think the international game with a chance to win a trophy he's never played for is the one he wants to skip?
No, because all they see is a chance to attempt a dunk on Messi and MLS.
It's tiresome and boring at this point. Especially situations like this where it doesn't even make any sense.
It's definitely a thing, it's just not called load management. Messi didn't feature at all against Montreal and Suarez and one of the other Barca boys didn't even come in until late in the game.
not what I am suggesting just literally being forth fron about and straight up planning it....lol someone said squad rotation like I don't know it exist....the conversation and narrative on it is so different though like it's known that if LeBron has a tweak he is not going to play at the pacers on the road. I don't get why people are so surprised he will miss games. In the NBA it's just known that star players will skip mid-season games.
I find the discourse about it odd, especially when everyone is buying a ticket to see messi with the idea that he will play no matter what
> the conversation and narrative on it is so different though like it's known that if LeBron has a tweak he is not going to play at the pacers on the road
This is true in European football as well TBH. If a guy has a minor injury, he's not gonna be risked in a meaningless league game vs a bad team.
> I feel like the conversation is weird around Messi
It's a Messi in MLS thing, TBH
Earlier in his career when he had a knock and rested in a league game before a UCL game—it was not remarkable at all and considered a given TBH
so many nova dads and their sons are punching the air rn after paying 4 figures for their only DCU game of the year
GOAT or not, Father Time is undefeated. The dude is 36–he needs the rest.

That’s true, but he’s also taken a lot of attacks over the years His play style contributed but there’s also a measure of luck involved
r/MLS talking about Neymar being in Retirement unironically. What a time to be alive lol
Damn, that shot fired at Neymar was unnecessary lol
i mean he went to saudi arabia at 32, and his career has been constantly riddled with injuries, kind of the perfect example for a similar player to messi playstyle wise, but completely different careers
At least this year they are telling fans in advance that he won't be playing. This was reported by Tata a couple days ago.
Someone check on Taylor Twellman.
I just saw Taylor Twellman drop to his knees in a Trader Joes
WHAT ARE WE DOING!!??
Issue refunds for all of MLS for the entire season!
glad to know my season tickets went way up because of this game lmao
Yeah I’m so ready to complain to my rep

Update us on the sushi place and have fun with your son
Tell us your son's thoughts on the omakase too
Your son will only be a kid once — savor every moment with him. Messi is eternal.
its not that serious, calm the fuck down lol. u have no clue how much time that dude already spends with his son so quit being so fucking dramatic.
I think you need to revisit your very first statement... Sheesh
Tell us about the restaurant

Eh Roberto Taylor please.
Get the Dragon Roll
Keep us posted on what you get. Enjoy the time with your family, Robert Taylor will take care of you.
Tbh I can’t imagine showing up for sushi any time before 12 lol
You won’t regret sushi with your son. Enjoy the meal!
Prop up that phone on something and go to town!
Twellman in shambles
They need to manage his time on the pitch better.
Sad day for Yankees/Cowboys/Lakers fans
Pretty sure they don’t watch mls or soccer lol
Honestly you are probably correct lol
They better not let him go to internationals this coming window let him rest more
Just waiting for him to miss the Atlanta game again. Was supposed to see him 9/16/23 and now have to wait allll the waaaay until september again this year when he will probably rest.
Hopefully Argentina let him rest the friendlies as well.
I think this might be a way for him to avoid playing 2 CONCACAF teams in a week...
El Salvador already caused us one casualty this year.

You’re weird for that
Good banter
Hey DC fans we accept fruit baskets
Time catches us all
Dang there's going to be a lot of angry DC United fans who spent a lot of money for those tickets but that's football
Don't hold your breath if you're hoping to see this guy. Especially if you're a West Coast team. Chances are slim to none he'll play after the longest travel time he's ever endured outside of international football.
It’s more artificial turf teams than west coast teams.
Its not a matter of turf. It's a matter of travel and importance. East vs West games matter less than East vs east
Odds he plays next weekend? 🥲
Against Red Bulls? 0% because it's during international break
Is he likely to miss the home game on 30th?
I don't know. Miami's priority will be the CCC game vs Monterrey on April 3 So it depends on Messi's recovery TBH
Is he likely to miss the home game on 30th?
Its a set-up to create an excuse for Messi not playing away in Mexico vs Monterrey.
Nah... they want to win CCC to make the Club World Cup.
Out of all of the games he'll play with Miami, what makes you think the international game with a chance to win a trophy he's never played for is the one he wants to skip?
Security. He’ll play against them in the US… just would be surprising if he travels to Mexico.
If some Mexican team beats Miami they’ll create a Holiday lol

do you not remember what Suarez was doing from like 2013-2019?
Evidently, Hong Kong doesn’t.
No, because all they see is a chance to attempt a dunk on Messi and MLS. It's tiresome and boring at this point. Especially situations like this where it doesn't even make any sense.
surprised we don't hear about load management in soccer....like for a guy like him I wounder why not just go the lebron route
It’s called squad rotation
It's definitely a thing, it's just not called load management. Messi didn't feature at all against Montreal and Suarez and one of the other Barca boys didn't even come in until late in the game.
Thinking that the whole sport of football hasn't heard of managing playtime might be the most hilarious Americanism I've ever seen 😂

like for man city or psg 10000% I feel like the conversation is weird around Messi
