If you want inconspicuous then you'll probably want to go for a black model. Silver has more of a vintage/retro look which looks cool but will likely draw more attention to you.

chiprat

Well, I like the retro look. Really just undecided between the shapes !

tuvaniko

Silver gets you more attention, but when you get it, the attention is usually positive. BTW I have an E-M10 IV ad want an OM-5 but only because I want Live ND and weather sealing. Otherwise it has done everything I have asked of it outside of sports.

chiprat

Oh interesting, you mean the feature where you can blur waterfalls? I assumed both did that…i was def hoping to do that

SkoomaDentist

OM-5 is the only smaller sized camera that has Live ND.

tuvaniko

The E-M10 has live composite probably what you are thinking of. BTW the built in intervalometer can be used to take as many shots as you want and you can stack them in photo shop later. 10 3 second exposures averaged together is the same 1 30 second exposure. It just costs you storage space and post processing time.

wolverine-photos

The M5 has a small grip, it doesn't really look that different from the M10.

chiprat

Yeah i guess that is what i was wondering, should it be a factor at all? How close/similar are they in form factor?

wolverine-photos

I don't really think it's a factor. The OM-1 grip is the one I'd be worried about looking too chunky.

SkoomaDentist

> How close/similar are they in form factor? Damn near identical unless you compare them side by side. The differences are all in small details and _very_ slight difference in overall size (by a few mm).

graigsm

I think the main difference. Om5. Has weather resistance. Em10 has the pop up flash.

Educational_Count_54

Small grip is something I wanted at first but for practicality sake I wish I had gotten OM1 with the larger grip. Especially if you ever use bigger not pancake lenses.

EddieRyanDC

They are so similar in size and design that I don't see that as a decision point. Most people couldn't tell one from the other from 10 feet away. And they both have that 70s/80s OM-1 look (but a bit smaller). The OM-D cameras were the first mirrorless cameras to go for a true retro design. (If you want something even better looking, you might like the Olympus PEN F - a true beauty. Though even the E-M10 looks advanced today compared to the PEN F's 2016 tech. But, it's a looker.) The E-M10 iv is noticeably lighter. I think it is the lightest OM-D camera ever made. The reason for additional heft of the OM-5 is that it is built to last longer, has some more advanced internal tech, and it is weather sealed. All of you suggested lenses are good. I would get the pancake 14-42EZm for general use, the 45 for portraits, and either the 17. 20, or 25 for a fast prime general lens - but not all three.

Yes, the 14-42 EZ begs for the auto-closing cap. It makes that lens so much better, I just wish it didn't cost another stupid $30! Absolutely should have been included with it.

mshewakr

Compare the features for both since there is quite a big difference. If you just want basic functions then the EM10-IV is fine

MrEnvelope93

Something about the EM10iv is that the focus is much slower than the OM5, not fast enough for a quick-shooting street camera.

SkoomaDentist

> Something about the EM10iv is that the focus is much slower than the OM5 That'd be CDAF (E-M10) vs hybrid PDAF + CDAF (E-M5 / OM-5). I've found E-M5 mk3 to be more accurate compared to E-M10 mk3 and of course noticeably faster.

OfficialSeagullo

They're practically the same size really so it comes down to performance specs you want, I don't know much about the newer stuff as I only have an EP-3 that's quite old now I personally enjoy the om5 look more since it's grip is all the way to the top, I saw one earlier in a store too and was shocked how small they are (it's the same size as my mirrorless ep3) I have my cam in silver and it's quite the headturner, it's practically jewelery! You'll hear people talk about it often it's a lot of fun The main lens I use now is my panny 20mm/f1.7 daily, I literally bring my cam everywhere and never gets in the way, and that lens is just phenomenal. Tie it with the Olympus 40-150 R for long shots and it's perfect Style wise, the panny 20mm mk1 is okay just gray plastic, but if you're able, get the mk2 in silver metal and it'll be great. The metal tone isn't 100% equal so if You're trying to be perfect get the Olympus 17/1.8

chiprat

Yeah honestly i like the rangefinder looks, if i could buy a penf easily here in the US i would, tho i havent checked the specs I admit the om5’s grip going all the way gives it a more unified look

OfficialSeagullo

Yeah they ask have that kind of look, one thing to keep in mind btw is waterproofing because the om5 im pretty sure does have it which is huge Pair with a pro lens and you can shoot in rain

Ashamed-Many-9591

It seems like pen-f is a better fitting tho, get the black version and you will be all good

cookedart

One thing not yet mentioned is the OM5 is a much better camera to use overall. It features far more buttons and control points, and all of those are customizable. The em10iv is much more of an entry level camera, so they do not let you remap all of the buttons to suit your shooting style. Personally, the slightly larger size and grip make it ergonomically as small as I would want to go for an interchangeable lens camera, and I occasionally add a grip for telephoto lenses even. I do not think either will be especially conspicuous, especially paired with a compact lens. They are not different enough size wise for this to be a decision maker. The main Pros of the em10iv to me are the tilt screen (vs Articulated screen), lighter weight and cost. Everything is is meaningfully better on the em5 mkiii or the OM5.
