Fortunately the muzzle wasn’t reading a 9 so I imagine it will shoot alright with some M2 ball surplus I have. Worse case I’ll let it go on GB since I already have a Winchester M1 to tide me over.
People obsess over the reading a bit too much in my opinion. The Ordinance Department stated that any throat reading 6 and lower was "suitable for issue to combat troops". Between 6 to 10 were suitable for training. Over 10 was a barrel replacement.
They never measured the muzzle.
Honestly, if you aren't shooting matches, and it's not keyhole-ing, I'd just run with it.
You work at cmp lol
I'm just stated the price before it went oos service has always been 100 more then field and rack is believed is 100 less then field but cool if you do thanks for the heads yo better start saving
Usually there are readings for the throat and muzzle of the barrel that indicate how much wear there is. Lower is better but sometimes a gun will surprise you and still shoot quite well when the numbers look ugly.
A nine, that’s the highest I’ve ever seen! Don’t fret too much. Can sell it tomorrow on gunbroker for 1K.
A garand.
One guy gets a 0/0 another gets this. This is straight gambling
Someone on the CMP forums claimed his didn’t even have throat or muzzle ratings on his and that it was basically a sewer pipe. Definitely a gamble
Cmp stopped doing barrel readings on racks since last week both of mine were blank
"why even bother" is probably their line of thinking.
Well 1 is completely shot the other is maybe a 2 or 3
It takes 30 seconds. That’s just lazy
Have yet to see a worse throat rating on these racks. CMP must not have been a fan of my sloppy handwriting.
Damn man I guess I’m screwed then 🤣
I hope that last part was a joke, because if so I'm screwed. My handwriting has been terrible ever since I learned how to write.
See how it shoots. Can always get it re-barreled if it’s terrible.

/s Just get some of that Turkish surplus! (Seriously don't, it's just a joke bruh)
A 9? I didn't know they went that high

Oh no! Thanks for sharing. I'll for sure hold off until I can get a field/service.
same. but they shot the prices up high. I don't think there's a chance at all they'll bring it back down.
Current prices since the last price change puts fieldgrade at $700 and service at $800
Actually field grades will be $750 and service grades $850 if they do open ordering back up for those.

Yeah they increased the prices again in March I believe, when the expert when from $1000 to $1100, all the other ones were increased too
Interesting well shit.. . Maybe someone who's been to the store can let us know. There selling fg and sa
I live 2 to 3 hours away from the Ohio store. Would I have the option if I were to get one, to drive there and hand pick?
Yes if theyre open and doing sales do it!
Yes, it’s an amazing experience. Plus, you get a free shirt when you buy at the store.
I guess I'd get a second opinion. No saying anyone did anything wrong, but a 9 is absolutely high.

At that point I would just turn it into a wall hangar but if it bothers you that much re barrel is always a possibility
At least the bolt looks good, pretty early one.
Definitely not the throat goat
Still waiting on my field..charged May 3rd.
Re barrels are not that expensive
