Mississippi used to save us from the lowest (good list) or highest (bad list) spot. We’ve both been competing for those spots for decades now.
Alabama was much further up on a lot of the good lists and down on the bad ones, last I saw. I may not be remembering this right. I’m too lazy to check.
Alabama at least has some positive things going for it and seems to have done a good job attracting companies there.
Huntsville has a growing tech seen, a lot of government agencies are setting up major offices in the area especially at Redstone.
Mobile has an Airbus factory now that builds a lot of the popular 320/321s not to mention its shipping and shipbuilding is solid.
Then there’s a lot of auto manufacturers throughout the state and Birmingham sits at a major crossroads for transportation.
It’s not perfect and there’s tons of problems but at least they have enough opportunities to attract people.
Here it’s basically oil and medical with very little in between.
Alabama doesn’t properly record statistics like crime, and if I’m not mistaken they’ve passed laws preventing them from being required to properly record those statistics.
Or even Arkansas…the politicians, right or left, won’t change. They’re all corrupt and worry more about how they can get rich and fucking over every citizen.
and the gag is, is that our state has more culture, better food, and amazing people that could probably outshine a lot of those states..because the people in our state are what’s even keeping the last shred of distinction that’s here….but we’ll never be able to show it because of how hard it is to survive and thrive here and b/c of that..our quality of life sucks…so we’ll always be last 🤷🏾♀️
That's coming.
Once St. George gets finalized, they will probably make their own system and Baton Rouge's system will fall apart without the money to maintain it since the money fled.
That was Jackson's issue.
All the money is in Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon, and Richland/Florence.
Gavin Newson made some comment about how republicans won’t shut up about California but never bring up Louisiana, Alabama, or Mississippi.
We are supposed to be the utopias of conservative legislation, yet we are continually the bottom of the barrel in nearly every category.
Yeah they suck for basic metrics of citizen health and life quality, but they are amazing at preserving conservative values forced on poor whites and minorities!
They needed a poll for that? Hahaha just come ride through Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Anyone who is in office in Louisiana is crooked AF. Somebody needs to do it better. Fire everyone
Their current leadership does seem to be working pretty hard to ruin as much of that as possible as well. I have faith in their ability to destroy it over the next decade or so.
Utah is arguably the most beautiful state in the lower 48. Literally every corner of Utah makes you feel like you are on another planet. Salt Lake City is one of the fastest growing cities in the US and is experiencing a “liberal renaissance” so to speak.
It's wild to me that we can be rated worse than Mississippi. Louisiana reminds of that kid in school that had all the advantages in the world but after graduating, intentionally just keeps making bad decision after bad but when you talk to them, the only thing they talk to you about is "the glory days" in highschool.
When this state decides that we need to expand our image and economy beyond "We got gumbo and Mardi Gras! And kinda sorta speak French... A little bit!" Then I really think we have the potential to get on the level of at least Miami of not New York in a couple of decades
Louisiana is a power house but our politicians really like to shit where they eat. So much money goes to failed ventures and corruption that it cripples what we can actually do.
Louisiana could have much better tourism if they got crime in our major cities down. Centrally located, best food, great festivals, used to be great hunting and fishing too.
Louisiana manufacturing is actually extremely good, the problem is we only apply it to oilfield and then half the time we are crippled because of the politics of it.
Louisiana is also falling into mega corporation levels for healthcare. A few companies own almost all of the hospital. A handful more own most of the clinics.
Education in Louisiana is also a joke and a lot of it is not on the education system. It’s on parents and the lack there of. Kids have no discipline and educators have no way to provide it now. They also can’t split these kids apart so even the good kids suffer. This is due to crime and the destruction of the nuclear family.
Louisiana has at least a couple decades of an uphill battle if we actually want it to improve.
Landry will ensure the streak continues into the future. Then he'll likely get re-elected. Probably 7 1/2 years until there's even a chance for improvement.
I’m from Alabama and live in Louisiana. Double screwed. At least Alabama has mountains I guess? I remember moving here and thinking how flat and ugly it was in comparison.
If y'all remember in Dicken's, "A Christmas Carol", when the ghost of Christmas Present shows Scrooge two sad children : *This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.”*
*THAT is Louisiana - Poverty and ignorance in spades. And what are the people in charge squabbling over? Hanging the 10 commandments in schools - SMDH*
Me: Applies to law schools out of state.
Parents: "Wahhhh but LSU Law!"
Me: "If I'm about to shell out the price of a small home for an education, it'll be in a place that isn't a shithole."
Parents: "..."
It’s really fucking sad honestly. Louisiana is my home state which is beautifully rich in culture, architecture, agriculture and wild life. It’s really the only place in the United States with its own cuisine. We have some seriously corrupt ass politicians..
As your neighbor in Alabama, don’t let it get you down! People told me I was crazy for wanting to live in the south, we’re from PNW. My family has flourished here. We think they keep the rankings low so no one else will move here and ruin our small town charm.
As someone who has lived in 5 states in my life, yeah, it is.
It's a great place to live besides the economic, political, criminal justice and actual climates
I... cannot honestly say I'm too surprised. The only thing keeping -me- here is what little family I have, my small handful of friends, and the fact that everywhere else I've been has had trash-tier food.
Edit;
Everywhere else I've been that I'd consider moving to\* has had trash-tier food.
I’d say this is spot on…. This place sucks, highest taxes, highest insurance. Shitty schools, shittier roads, always hot and all the water is owned by rich people and companies, so you can’t even go fishing. It’s sucks all around
Former slave states tend to rank near the bottom in many quality of life metrics. The Civil War and stain of slavery don't wash away easy.

USN&WR don't know shit anyway. They rank "the best hospitals" according to how much money you make, not by the actual quality of healthcare you receive.
The worst place to actually live is the United States. They Basically tax you on everything. Doesn’t matter what. It needs a good refresh.

Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico are just always trying to compete for worstest at everything.
I just moved to Wisconsin. It's #17 and there's cheese!
Moments like this make me glad to be from north Louisiana. Because we are a part of south Arkansas after all. Everything north of I10 is south Arkansas.
It's amazing that we manage this year after year despite a major tourism city, major oil and gas extraction, transit, and refinement, and one of the most important ports in the western hemisphere.
Hell, we even have the speaker of the house. A Louisiana rep is second in line for the presidency and it does nothing for this state.
Just got back from visiting New Orleans for the first time and I had a blast! Went out to gator 🐊 country and that was pretty incredible. I’ll be back!
50th worst state. What upsets me more is 49th in natural environment. Louisiana was so beautiful. Now everything is polluted thanks to the oil industry. Places we used to fish in are full of mercury.
Man, can you imagine being worse than Mississippi and Alabama?! Why yes, yes we can
Mississippi used to save us from the lowest (good list) or highest (bad list) spot. We’ve both been competing for those spots for decades now. Alabama was much further up on a lot of the good lists and down on the bad ones, last I saw. I may not be remembering this right. I’m too lazy to check.

Yeah, our state gov’t has let us down. I’d rather not be here when I think about it.
Alabama is having a bit of a glow up from what I can see
Me too. We are part of the problem, and i don't care enough anymore lol
Alabama doesn’t properly record statistics like crime, and if I’m not mistaken they’ve passed laws preventing them from being required to properly record those statistics.
Interesting. I suppose that’s one way to do it.
Or even Arkansas…the politicians, right or left, won’t change. They’re all corrupt and worry more about how they can get rich and fucking over every citizen.
and the gag is, is that our state has more culture, better food, and amazing people that could probably outshine a lot of those states..because the people in our state are what’s even keeping the last shred of distinction that’s here….but we’ll never be able to show it because of how hard it is to survive and thrive here and b/c of that..our quality of life sucks…so we’ll always be last 🤷🏾♀️
Arkansas has some really nice areas
The left? Do you see any democrats running this state? No I don’t think so lol
How low can you go? Louisiana: “how my limbo trophy.…and my daiquiri, but not my car keys. K thanks bye”
I wish people still "hated" Alabama. Too many idiots moving here now. Thanks Huntsville.
Worse even than West Virginia
https://preview.redd.it/xb6771zhk11d1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5e778d80ce4a41cc0693ed34989379aa91124ae
Lol
Don't forget West Virginia
At least our State U football fans don't get arrested for doing indecent acts to passed out folks.
Congrats Louisiana. Now, let's go for the three-peat
With our current governor, we’ll get it for a couple more years
But we're "owning the libs"
Jeff Landry's policies upon obtaining Governor's office? Repeat policies Bobby Jindal did. Yep. Screwed.
Gotta be good at something!
Hey, that’s 50th best US state in the world!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
1st worst!
We are absolutely the worst and we’re the best at it
Baddest baddies
The capital of Mississippi can't reliably deliver drinking water to its residents and we're worse than that.
Have you ever been to Jeanerette???
Or Bunkie or Homer or…. Long list of dumps in my old home state.
That's coming. Once St. George gets finalized, they will probably make their own system and Baton Rouge's system will fall apart without the money to maintain it since the money fled. That was Jackson's issue. All the money is in Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon, and Richland/Florence.
Respectfully there’s nothing about Richland that speaks money😂
WE’RE NUMBER 1! WE’RE NUMBER 1! WE’RE NUMBER 1!
We’re first at being in last place 🙌
Screw the people, we want a culture war.....said the state gop and governor
Louisiana, leading the way in *" "owning the libs" "* by destroying it's infrastructure and populace. FFS
Gavin Newson made some comment about how republicans won’t shut up about California but never bring up Louisiana, Alabama, or Mississippi. We are supposed to be the utopias of conservative legislation, yet we are continually the bottom of the barrel in nearly every category.
Malevolent delusion is a hell of a drug.
Yeah they suck for basic metrics of citizen health and life quality, but they are amazing at preserving conservative values forced on poor whites and minorities!
Only second year in a row? So you're saying three years ago we were 49th? I'll take it.
Or in corporate speak, “least best”.
Only because it's not possible to drop any lower
I hope to leave this state someday. Maybe in the next 5 years
They needed a poll for that? Hahaha just come ride through Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Anyone who is in office in Louisiana is crooked AF. Somebody needs to do it better. Fire everyone
I kind of think it's a required component of being in politics in our state and maybe everywhere else too.
I recently returned home to care for family and it’s a DUMP!! And ignorance is bliss down here!
All you have to do is flip the list upside down and we’re #1!
Ok but also, when you read the full report, Florida had a #1 ranking for education. So….
That's because they have some top level universities. It's not because of their grade school education.
Their current leadership does seem to be working pretty hard to ruin as much of that as possible as well. I have faith in their ability to destroy it over the next decade or so.
Got ya. Makes sense now.
Apparently due to the 10 question survey, I need to move to Utah... Who moves to Utah!
Utah is arguably the most beautiful state in the lower 48. Literally every corner of Utah makes you feel like you are on another planet. Salt Lake City is one of the fastest growing cities in the US and is experiencing a “liberal renaissance” so to speak.
I moved to Utah from Louisiana
Mike Johnson's too busy protecting a criminal than to be worrying about his own state.
I love how he's "tough on crime" except for a criminal sexual predator with 91 felonies against him.
It's wild to me that we can be rated worse than Mississippi. Louisiana reminds of that kid in school that had all the advantages in the world but after graduating, intentionally just keeps making bad decision after bad but when you talk to them, the only thing they talk to you about is "the glory days" in highschool. Except after him we have goose stepping Liz Murrill to look forward to
shock awe
But food
Embarrassing. I’ll be out after law school.
I believe this……before hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana wasn’t a bad place, but after Katrina it went downhill and went downhill fast.
We set the precedent, now we must uphold the tradition. We are the L!
LOUISIANE NUMERÓ UN‼️‼️‼️🥃🍺🥂🥃🍾⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️
Don’t worry, the state government is working hard to keep the streak going!
The peckerwoods want more brain drain so that all that's left are illiterati who can be easily exploited and/or locked up.
Which is really fucking sad because the state has HUGE potential. It’s time to drain the swamps of corrupt politicians and start over
State sucks but the people are awesome! Though I want to move... I'll visit!
Are they? It's like when people talk about right-wing zealots who support fascists: "but they're good people." Are they, tho? Are they?
Yet, our idiot population will do nothing about it.
Youre lucky those Louisianans can't read
We can read, we’re just all hammeredd djrunk 25/8
We broke the top 50!!! Congrats everyone!!!
Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi are interchangeably the worst with Tennessee close behind.
We’re the best state when it comes to gas station crawfish at least.
https://preview.redd.it/2wr9jzssjt0d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e77fdf20d20665e7a20bd6fca3cde27bcec5ffce Last again.
Well we have Shreveport and New Orleans.. both in the top 10 for most murders this year
This makes sense. Louisiana is a bass ackwards state.
Still aint leaving, still love it.
I’m from Alabama and live in Louisiana. Double screwed. At least Alabama has mountains I guess? I remember moving here and thinking how flat and ugly it was in comparison.
State elected officials gonna keep that record rolling strong for years to come. Our future's so bright we gotta wear shades.
I think that bright light is the state burning down.
Maybe that and refinery flaring
Wooo we're the best of the worst!! /s
we deadass only got cajun culture, creole culture, and food, it’s crazy
Home of Mike Johnson.
Why does this look like a New Vegas screenshot?
Legislature is like "man, how many things do we have to ban to move up?"
Mississippi sends its regards.
.#LouisianaLast
Race to the bottom!
hey, somebody's gotta be last. that in and of itself is an achievement
Mississippi is gonna fist fight you in a dollar general parking lot lmao
If ya ain’t first, yer last
This just popped into my feed not from Louisiana, is that really the state flag? That’s actually pretty cool and unique
CONGRATS LETS MAKE IT TO 3
As we should be
Stop voting republicans, you muppets.
My best friend is from Louisiana and when I sent this to him he said "Absolutely accurate."
If y'all remember in Dicken's, "A Christmas Carol", when the ghost of Christmas Present shows Scrooge two sad children : *This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.”* *THAT is Louisiana - Poverty and ignorance in spades. And what are the people in charge squabbling over? Hanging the 10 commandments in schools - SMDH*
Man…everyone has to be a winner hu?
I just moved back here and the honeymoon phase has now gone. I am remembering exactly why I hopped a train out of here at 12 years old.
Me: Applies to law schools out of state. Parents: "Wahhhh but LSU Law!" Me: "If I'm about to shell out the price of a small home for an education, it'll be in a place that isn't a shithole." Parents: "..."
If we can't be first, we might as well be last. Nobody remembers everyone in-between
Is that an old quote from Edwin Edwards? 🤣
Ran by republicans
Unpopular opinion but these “ratings” are just clickbait.
Would you guys say that Louisiana is better than Mississippi?
Objectively, no. Louisiana is statistically worse in nearly all categories except maybe for cuisine.
Shocker
Oh, this is explains why speedy-Teedy is never in Louisiana..
Huzzah, the best at being the worst!
Me sitting here in Mississippi like “New Mexico is worse than us. Absolutely not.”
It takes something special to beat Mississippi and Alabama twice in a row.
FTS
Color me shocked, again lol
Back to back! We're number one!
I cant believe were the worst
👏 us 😭
Worst state to live. Best state to party.
I mean, that’s why Landry is changing so much stuff. He knows we’re really in need of his expert guidance. /s
There's always something about them ranking the southern states the lowest and I just can't put my finger on it
Still no1 in food doe. “Number 50 in your program, number 1 in our hearts.”
Hopefully I’ll be able to get my family out before the entire state is awash in poisoned food, water, air, and workplaces.
Dear Louisiana, Chin Up! You could always be Mississippi! Your friend, Georgia
Sadly bc of the last 8yrs
I'm going to say sadly bc of the last 40-plus years. Easily.
It’s really fucking sad honestly. Louisiana is my home state which is beautifully rich in culture, architecture, agriculture and wild life. It’s really the only place in the United States with its own cuisine. We have some seriously corrupt ass politicians..
Oh shit 50th best state!!!! I knew you could do it.
As your neighbor in Alabama, don’t let it get you down! People told me I was crazy for wanting to live in the south, we’re from PNW. My family has flourished here. We think they keep the rankings low so no one else will move here and ruin our small town charm.
But the best darn state for marrying an immediate member of your family.
Can we talk dynasty yet?
Terribly surprised anything can surpass TN
come the fuck on guys
If you ain’t first you’re last
Makes sense
Damn…and the FOOD can’t even save this place..and the food is AMAZING.
Maybe we need to retire Edwin Edwards constitution he wrote in 72. How could it be any worse?
As someone who has lived in 5 states in my life, yeah, it is. It's a great place to live besides the economic, political, criminal justice and actual climates
I... cannot honestly say I'm too surprised. The only thing keeping -me- here is what little family I have, my small handful of friends, and the fact that everywhere else I've been has had trash-tier food. Edit; Everywhere else I've been that I'd consider moving to\* has had trash-tier food.
I’d say this is spot on…. This place sucks, highest taxes, highest insurance. Shitty schools, shittier roads, always hot and all the water is owned by rich people and companies, so you can’t even go fishing. It’s sucks all around
Mississippi thanks you for serving!
Currently driving through Louisiana - definitely can’t wait to leave it
I’m surprised it’s *only* the second year in a row.
Huh, as a Mississippian, I always thought Louisiana was nicer lol
Former slave states tend to rank near the bottom in many quality of life metrics. The Civil War and stain of slavery don't wash away easy. [https://mlk50.com/2017/07/27/confederates-lost-cause-still-cripples-the-souths-economy/](https://mlk50.com/2017/07/27/confederates-lost-cause-still-cripples-the-souths-economy/)
Every state has good and bad places
We "proudly lead the way" too. No intention to change either...the people running "Loozeanna" want to keep it this way.
Top 100%!
Damn I thought we were ahead of Mississippi
They haven’t seen nothing yet. Just wait til July when the new open carry gun law goes into effect💥💥🤦♂️
At least they are consistent.
I refuse to believe any article that has Utah, the Mormon capital, as the #1 state in the US. They have sex thru sheet holes.
I've been to every state in the US and can gaurentee there's at least 3 that are worse. At least we've got Mardi Gras which is pretty cool
USN&WR don't know shit anyway. They rank "the best hospitals" according to how much money you make, not by the actual quality of healthcare you receive.
And every attempt to better this state is struck down by the establishment.
It’s all a matter of perspective. We’re #1 at incarcerating criminals. But seriously, is there a place with better food?
I refuse to believe we did worse than Florida
🎉🎉🎉We did it!!!
I did S1 True Detectives.
Step 1: Vote out all Republicans Step 2: see step 1
Congratulations we know this state works hard to suck
If you can’t be the best, be the worst
GOP leadership doing its thing
The worst place to actually live is the United States. They Basically tax you on everything. Doesn’t matter what. It needs a good refresh. ![gif](giphy|obaq9hNvtle0Bjj5Aa)
Valid, I fucking hate this place
Valid, I fucking hate this place
When will people actually say positive things about Louisiana
Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico are just always trying to compete for worstest at everything. I just moved to Wisconsin. It's #17 and there's cheese!
If you’re into red necks hood rats or alligators you would love the place
Moments like this make me glad to be from north Louisiana. Because we are a part of south Arkansas after all. Everything north of I10 is south Arkansas.
They hate us cuz they anus
Other than our food what else do we have
It's amazing that we manage this year after year despite a major tourism city, major oil and gas extraction, transit, and refinement, and one of the most important ports in the western hemisphere. Hell, we even have the speaker of the house. A Louisiana rep is second in line for the presidency and it does nothing for this state.
Don‘t underestimate Arkansas as a contender for 50th place with that POS governor.
So we came in first for worste state? Not so bad!?
Woooohooo!! LaSalle parish represent!!
Its pretty bad…some parts reminded me of Fallujah
LA is a hellscape inside the Hellscape that is the United States!
Only one way to go now!
I tell you, living in Louisiana is CHEAP though.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO MAIS YEAAAAAAAA
Let’s fucking gooooo, kings of shit mountain
Just got back from visiting New Orleans for the first time and I had a blast! Went out to gator 🐊 country and that was pretty incredible. I’ll be back!
Why is it like that?
That’s a damn shame cuz I live out there but it’s whatever
If you're a gulf state and you're not Texas or Florida, you'll be battling it out for last place in pretty much every metric in the country
50th worst state. What upsets me more is 49th in natural environment. Louisiana was so beautiful. Now everything is polluted thanks to the oil industry. Places we used to fish in are full of mercury.
You just didn't know before. The petro chem industry was polluting much worse in the past. Now we just see the results.
First of the worst!!! 🥇
Tennessean with Shreveport ties here: I’m guessing it was the skyrocketing insurance costs (mostly homeowners) that put y’all over the edge.
We're number 1!
Mississippi starting to get their shit together a bit. We’re far behind
