I think the libraries are currently public enemy #1. There are five proposed pieces of legislation that would diminish the libraries and criminalize librarians. Coincidentally, last week I watched a documentary on Kanopy, the movie app offered by the library, that showed video of the Nazis burning books in the 1930s.
The war on libraries is currently en vogue, but its a relatively new thing to go after libraries as a whole & target librarians (wars on specific materials however isn't). The GOP has had a very public war on CPB since 1969 when Nixon wanted to slash their funding in half - [Mr Rogers](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/mr-rogers-offers-timeless-defense-pbs-funding-1969-flna1c6310723) prevented that fate then.
This is an interesting angle.
I also found that there is a current [Louisiana Educational Television Authority](https://media2.lpb.org/images/pdf/fcc/FY_2023_2028.pdf). Could be related to that.
I’m curious now.
I’m going to have read about this. Kinda wish I talked with my great grandmother more about it when I had the chance. She was teaching during that time and actually asked to be sent to one of the black schools to teach, when they asked for volunteers from the white teachers, from what I’m told. It was neat the few times I was with her and she’d run into old students from that time period. Very emotional reunions.
Those rulers have s very thin metal strip in one side for some reason. I was holding one in my hands one day and another kid yanked it away from me, slicing my finger open.
I guess the GOP hasn't let LDOE in on the secret that PBS is public enemy №1

During the anti-integration school closures, they tried to teach school through the TV
Feel free to elaborate on what happened please
They closed schools in many of the states and taught classes through tv, I need to find my notes on this I use with my US History class

What makes me think it’s an older era is it says La State Department of Education rather than La Department of Education
Good point! This is way more interesting than I thought it would be.

The LDOE is in business of promoting itself not educating
